We sat out on the front patio. I recommend you try sit there if you can. Our server was super friendly and made us feel like the only patrons there, taking the time to walk us through the menu and help us consider pros and cons of menu items. The food selection was eclectic, with twists on common fare. We ordered the Kale & Brussels, Prosciutto Toast, Scallops, and Octopus all of which had amazing presentation and great taste. Prices were high but it was easily justified by the high quality food and service. If you're in Bar Harbor and want to take a break from chomping on lobster rolls at touristy spots and want an upscale dinner that doesn't disappoint, make Project Social a priority. read more

Truly a gem! I didn't expect to find this level of food in Bar Harbor since it's the town closest to a Acadia national park. I assumed it's a touristy town but they really hold it down at Project Social. Every single thing we ordered was exceptional. I'd recommend to try as many dishes as you can. We ordered fresh oysters, clam chowder, octopus, lobster crepe, butternut squash soup and open face Bahn mi sandwich. I'd say the sandwich was least liked because it was falling apart with every bite but flavor-wise everything was perfect. The service was also exceptional. We had a wonderful meal at Project social this evening. The oysters were delicious, Plump and sweet and juicy. The pita bread and the hummus dip were delicious. The kale salad was interesting with sesame and vinaigrette, and a strong fresh ginger flavor. The patatas brava had a creamy smooth paprika sauce with feta cheese. The butternut squash soup was rich and thick and slightly more spicy than we expected. Our lobster crêpe was excellent . The beef shish kebab was excellent with a spicy yellow chickpea sauce. For dessert we had an excellent Nutella crêpe and also an amazing smooth creamy hazelnut chocolate pot de cream with flavors of burnt cognac. The service was wonderful. The setting is special. I finally had a chance to visit the very enticing patio at Project Social Kitchen over Memorial Day weekend. It was chilly out but the patio was warmed by heat lamps and blankets were waiting for us on our seats. We ordered the midnight cocktail, a beer, the seafood chowder, prosciutto toast, patatas bravas, and duck tacos. I enjoyed all of the items, if I were visiting again I would reorder the tacos and the patatas. I know tapas typically are served as they're ready, not all at once, but each of our items were pretty spaced out so we were only eating one plate a time. I wish they were served a little closer together. I would love to come by again on a summer night to try a different cocktail and some of the other menu items. As other reviews have stated, the drinks and tapas are a little pricey, even for the area, but worth the splurge for a romantic evening or special occasion. read more

We had a such great experience at Project Social, we went back the following evening for our final dinner in Bar Harbor. Their menu is surprisingly diverse and everything we tried was perfectly executed with extremely fresh ingredients. Everything is made from scratch, from the corn tortillas in the tacos to the tzatziki sauce in their lamb kofta. The cocktails were also expertly crafted. The ones I had used in-houses infused tequila and mezcal. But what really sets Project Social apart is the service and hospitality. Special thanks to Nicole for remembering that my kids had nut allergies and removing the pistachios from the bruschetta without my asking. 10/10 experience - a must try for foodies and people wanting to try unique foods in a picturesque setting. Do yourself a favor and get the mushroom toast and octopus dishes. The toast was our favorite dish all week, with the mushrooms being perfectly cooked and the chèvre bringing a creaminess and slight funk to the dish. The octopus somehow had a melt in your mouth texture with a strong barbecue flavor and delicious sauces. We also ordered the ceviche, scallops, crab cakes, and duck tacos. It was all delicious, and flavors were well-balanced, meaning acids and fats were paired well together. Food presentation was exceptional. Service was incredible, in that our waiter answered all of our questions and food came quickly. Additionally, my wife and I showed up at 5:30 and were promptly seated. I had the Mediterranean Mezzo for my meal and if you'd like it gluten free you can ask for extra cucumbers instead of the pita bread. The waiter was nice enough to bring me the cucumbers after he brought out the dish as there was an abundance of pitas in comparison to the rest of the items. They give you 3 dips which were all delicious. Tzatziki, olive dip and a Muhammara which is a red pepper dip. We then got the Oysters Rockafeller to split. Lots of tobiko. Heavy sausage flavor. I would probably skip those next time. I will say regarding drinks, they have a beautiful cocktail list but my stomach wasn't feeling great so instead of a normal spicy margarita or something similar, I asked for a dirty martini and it came out with a funky flavor. Most likely too much vermouth. The poor waiter took at least ten minutes before returning with a new martini without vermouth. He or the bartender clearly did not know how to make this. If I returned to the area I'd definitely return for a funky cocktail and something a little more adventurous on the menu. read more

Service, food, drinks, atmosphere are all top notch. You can join the waitlist from your phone, which is great. Seating inside and outside are both lovely. Food was okay, not great. The seafood chowder was the best dish. The oysters were wayyy too small. I needed a magnifying glass to find them. Pork belly was decent, as were the duck tacos. But the duck tacos at Tap and Barrel were much tastier. The cocktails were good, but the service was not. We saw six different servers, but sadly when we wanted to pay and leave, they all disappeared. After a grueling hike on Cadillac Mountain, we just wanted to eat, drink, and relax at our hotel. For drinks beware of the "The Whey It Should Be" and "Sesame Street" both drinks were not good by themselves or with a lot of the food combinations. Both would be better as a sauce on a steak than a drink. Be prepared to order multiple dishes. If you are planning to get full on a budget then this isn't the place for you. For food choices, the scallops were either over cooked or under cooked. My favorite dish was the butternut squash curry soup. It was delicious with a little spice at the end. Also the beef skewer was tasty. My family also had the tacos which they said were good. Our waitress was very nice and added a positive mood to the all ready beautiful atmosphere of the place. Bar looks really nice, indoors lighting was dimmed in the evening so this would be perfect for single person dining or couples. The low lighting gives it a little touch of private dining. Fast, delicious food in a beautiful outdoor setting in Bar Harbor. All three of the vegetarian dishes we tried were outstanding, with deep and complex flavors that felt warming on a fall evening. The spice on the mayo in the potatoes and the curry in the butternut squash soup are examples of how common dishes are elevated. There are plenty of heaters on the patio to keep folks warm on a colder fall evening. Our server was so friendly and gave us genuine advice on things to do around Maine and checked in with us at just the right intervals. I would definitely recommend this place after a hard day of hiking in the park. The only hiccup was that it took almost 15 minutes for us to be acknowledged when we first arrived at the restaurant... though many servers walked by, not one stopped for a second to say "sorry, the host just stepped away." This bordered on rude, which is unusual given how awesome the rest of the service was. Hopefully just a bit of training if the staff will resolve this issue to make waiting feel less awkward. read more

No reservations and we were seated immediately near a lovely pond. Service was attentive and the staff worked together well bringing and clearing plates quickly. For two of us, we had 5 plates, bruschetta, Caesar salad, crab cakes, potatoes, and beef skewers. They all were excellent! The potatoes were popular and I saw them being delivered to several tables. I loved the crab cakes, beef skewers, and potatoes. I probably would have skipped the Caesar salad and would have gotten the prosciutto bruschetta instead of the regular bruschetta. Everything was great tasting, but those were my favs. It was one of our most expensive meals in the area. Something to think about if that is important. The ambiance and service get a high rating... the kitchen timing and drink timing is where we had issues. We hopped in here on a Friday with no wait time and were seated outside, under cover, and under a heater. We were given blankets because it's Maine in October, so that was a nice perk. Our waitress quickly greeted us and took our drink order - just wine for us. After a few minutes, we placed our order. They have a nutritional spreadsheet for dietary needs, so our friend was able to review it and make her selection. At this time, we still didn't have our drinks, and she went to check on this. Our starters and my curry butternut squash arrived, and THEN the wine came. I assume the bar was just understaffed. Our main courses took a while, but two were brought to the table. Thankfully, our third guest insisted we start eating as our food was warm, but her simple broccoli and kale salad took another 10 minutes. I was done with my meal (the scallops) before she got hers. There didn't seem to be any urgency to it and no real acknowledgement of it. The food was all quite delicious and all the employees were very friendly and welcoming. Come for the patio, stay for the food. The outdoor seating is so magical. It's a beautiful zen garden with a river and good spacing between the tables to make it feel pretty private or romantic. The food was also unique and delicious. We tried several dishes and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch.
