This is the most adorable cafe! I've been wanting to come here for a long time and finally got to try it out yesterday. It feels so cozy and comfortable and creates such a welcoming environment. I also enjoy that there's so much natural sunlight. The only issue is that it can get very crowded since seating is limited. There are some nice tables outside as well but those fill up quickly too. I got a regular latte and it was nothing too special but still solid. They also had many milk alternatives which was nice. I definitely want to try one of their pastries next time. read more

One of my favorite cafes! I appreciate their selection of non-coffee items - highly recommend their iced hojicha latte! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but this place usually gets pretty full. When I came by on a Sunday afternoon, there were just a few seats available. Cute cafe! The brick building makes me feel like I'm out of town in the east coast! I love the brick building, the cute take out window, the big lawn/park right outside with others picnicking and neither outdoors. Kokuto latte tasted good, but make sure to mix it well before drinking! It tasted like subtly sweetened milk at first, but later it tasted overly sweet--that was because it wasn't well-mixed, so make sure to mix your drink when you get it! It's more of a black sugar tea latte (that's my guess based off my taste buds) rather than espresso so keep that in mind if you're curious. I've had the hojicha which was good too. They have ice cream, which was on the lighter icier side rather than creamy. But still good, especially on a hot day. Just love the outdoor area. The indoor area is pretty small, a large communal table where I always see people with laptops out. read more

Decided on a new spot to grab some chai tea as they had a few different options available - chocolate, spicy and house. Was quite surprised by the location, definitely a hidden gem that sits behind a brick building on a side street. There is a huge park area ideal for a picnic or sitting in the grass and chillin out. The spicy chai reminded me of Rasa coffee which recently closed and was my favorite chai tea spot. We also ordered the sausage egg mich-sandwich and it was so good - chorizo, egg, cheese and a spicy sauce blended in. The English muffin bread itself was so good. WHEN: Sun @Noon It's the pandemic and I'm still on the hunt for outdoor cafes. PARKING - There is a decent amount of free street parking since it's located next to a park. Although there are seatings indoors with a huge window opening, The Hidden Cafe is located where an open grass field is big enough for most people to relax in. They even provide blankets to do so. There are maybe 6 tiny tables for 2 people to sit at each with a bit of shade covering. They have their on bathroom! There's a key and a map and it's located outside around the corner. No need to use the park's one. They have their own cafe of pastries and drinks and in the back is MICHOZ serving up some yummy Peruvian food! I wish the cafe drink men included the prices. Here's what I had: KOKUTO LATTE I don't remember how much but it's pretty much a regular latte. Again I have poor taste in coffee drinks. I remember asking the barista what kokuto was but not remembering what he said. I just looked it up, it's just brown sugar. FRUIT SPRITZA Strawberry Syrup, Grapefruit, Seltzer It tastes exactly how it sounds...light on the sweet side. Yay paper straw, it was cute. "POLLO A LA BRASA" CHICKEN STRIPS - $12 Crispy chicken thigh. Marinated in Aji Pancake (Peruvian pepper) serviced with Ahi Amarillo "Everything" sauce. Oh boy these were so tasty! There were maybe about 8-10 pieces? It has great flavors and the sauce was so good I just wish to know what it was! Give this a try! I will come back for these. I had a great time. The first time I came here I remember leaving underwhelmed by the coffee but loving the general atmosphere. Glad to say that I did come back and have to change my mind regarding the coffee (no changes to the atmosphere of course- nice outdoor green space/field nearby) The latte was decent and better than the first time around. Good amount of coffee flavor and the milk helped balance out the bitterness. Again, a solid latte but nothing spectacular. Decent priced drinks, expect around $5 for anything in Berkeley, and friendly staff. Might have to try out some of the more adventurous drinks they have as a comparison.They do have food vendors that rotate through so check their website to see what it might be, haven't tried any of those yet so might need to come back for that. read more

The hidden cafe is more about vibes and location for me than anything else. It's painful to give them a lower rating since it's a beautiful cafe and staff is kind, but functionality it just is not it. The bathroom is tough the access, which matters at a cafe because you can't just leave your things behind if you're coming alone. Seating is so cramped and I'd bring a fully charged computer because it's a fight for the outlets. The drinks are also just decent.. And parking in the neighborhood is scarce to none. I wouldn't come here to study or work remotely, nor would it be my first choice if I wanted to get a drink, but a good place to read or stop in if you have a blanket out on the lawn. read more

Quite literally hidden next to a park, this café has pretty good coffee and food. Breakfast burrito is the standout item here. Service was a little slow but that was due to the long line of people waiting. Not a good place to study - few seats and tight space; but there is a nice grass area if you want to bring a blanket to sit on. read more

Kokuto Lattes - iced was our favorite! It has a nice caramelized flavor with the perfect sweetness. We also got the Sausage & Egg Muffin which was super flavorful and delicious. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is eclectic and cozy inside. Outside there are several tables and plenty of benches throughout the park. As a visitor to the area, it's very evident this is a gem to the community and I would definitely return! read more

Probably one of the top 5 breakfast sandwiches I've had. Can get a bit messy with the egg and cheese but worth it for sure. Choripán - This was my favorite item ordered! Absolutely delicious. My wife recently opened her business nearby and since I have to study for another securities exam, i popped into this nice cafe and was greeted by Andy. I told him that im more into cold drinks like Frappuccinos and he helped me select a type of cold brew. It was excellent but his friendly service and down to earth personality really made my experience even better. Sweet little café buried in strawberry creek park. Almost no place to sit inside; just one long table with every chair typically taken by people typing on their laptops. If it's a sunny day, you can sit outside; there are a few tables provided, but even better to sit on the grass if you have a blanket. I think this place is perfect if you want a nice place to hang out. Food/drink wise it wasn't for me but could be what I ordered. It's a little tucked away, but there's a huge lawn outside where people set up blankets and hang around on, and the interior is super cozy and cute. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, so it's the perfect place to hang out. I ordered the Paloma spritz but they ran out of one of the syrups. The staff were kind enough to modify the drink for me with another one of their syrups. Kind of tasted like a sparkling grapefruit drink. Refreshing, but not too special. I also ordered the magic purple square, and it definitely tastes vegan hahah. It's pretty filling since it's filled with coconut shavings and nuts, I probably wouldn't order it again since it's not my cup of tea. This is the coolest little coffee shop! We were visiting from Southern California and stumbled upon this little cafe on Yelp. The location was adorable! The inside is small but there is a few seats.. but most people seemed to prefer to sit outside on the grass with their personal blankets and chairs. Dog friendly too! The whole setting was very relaxing. We took the opportunity to take tons of pictures, and we were never judged. The coffee also tastes great & the staff members are insanely nice. Due to the pandemic, I will be removing criteria that I had added to my reviews, such as restaurant ambience, mood, and wait time. This review will only focus on the dish. Quick Summary - cozy interior - coffee is not sour - After you order, listen carefully for your name - I enjoyed the red quinoa salad I had this cafe in my list of places to go and drink, and finally the opportunity arrived. It was a really warm day when we visited the cafe, so even though I usually order a hot coffee I already decided on ordering something colder. The cafe is located in a long strip of a park with trees and a serene river with a bridge to walk over. There were families sitting on the grass with picnic sheets. It had a very peaceful atmosphere. It was around lunchtime, when we walked here, so there was a line out the door. As we waited in line, there was a small sign with two menus: food and drinks. Since the sun was bright outside and my appetite was on the low end, after reviewing the menu, I thought of trying out the salad. This day, it was called the red quinoa salad. For the drinks, I ordered the iced Americano and the iced kokuto latte. I was curious on how this would taste. For the Americano, the staff asked if I liked it with cream and sugar and I said yes to both. The drinks arrived first. For the drinks, they will be placed near the window closest to the entrance, and they will call out the name through there. It might be hard to hear, if you are inside, so when you feel it should be the time when your order is done, listen for your name. Same for the food: someone from the kitchen will walk outside and call out your name. The coffees were delicious, not sour at all. My relative was very pleased with the wonderful ice amount in the drink: just enough to cool it down and to not water the coffee. The Americano had a refreshing flavor, while the kokuto had a splendid sweet taste. It energized me from walking around in the warm later summer heat. We enjoyed the red quinoa salad very much. I would also add that the quinoa was prepared very well. It was like eating soft rice grains, not the hard brown rice like texture. This salad also had a tart sour flavor to it, so it was a great refreshment food to beat the summer. I'm not sure about the cheese topping, but it might have been goat or sheep cheese, which I like. Lives up to its name haha. I couldn't see it from the car/ road. Another way to view it is "a hidden gem", which happens to be directly facing a park full of picnickers! I love the vibe! The Hidden Cafe is probably my top spot for coffee in the Bay Area! It's hidden in a quiet neighborhood and I love the community feel and vibe it has to it. The inside is so cute (and small) but luckily there is huge grass area right in front where you can sit in the grass and enjoy your coffee. I usually get a iced Kokuto latte which basically tastes like a elevated sweet vanilla latte. I also really love their sticky buns. The cheddar scallion scone, I can with confidence say, was one of the best scones I've ever had. It was light and fluffy with a delicate crisp crust, and ever so slightly sweet. I loved this place immediately when I discovered it using Yelp. Their cookies are always warm and perfectly crispy, pairing well with the houjicha latte (or honey matcha, can't go wrong!). The inside isn't open to the public right now but they are happy to let you know what baked goods are available behind the window. The owner (I think husband/wife duo) let me peek inside and it's quaint with pretty dried florals hanging (wife is a florist). Menu is available when you approach the window. They take cash or card right now. The cafe is a few steps away from a small bridge crossing strawberry creek, and nearby is a neat playground nestled within the trees. Seating options - the cafe is faced with a large grassy area that many people picnic on (can get muddy after rains). There are a couple built in park benches, and then two picnic tables plus two small round tables with chairs owned by the cafe. Across the bridge there are two picnic tables near the creek, a bench, and a handful of picnic tables next to the play set. read more

One of my favorite cafes in the area hands down. The atmosphere is just perfect. It's right next to a park and strawberry creek in a brick building. It feels like a little oasis, gem that you stumbled upon. It's a secret you want to keep for yourself, but is best enjoyed with a lover or friend. Coffee is good. Pastries are also delicious. There's ice cream too. There's a big table inside that's always full. I usually sit outside on the little patio or on the lawn. They have blankets for people to use. I don't think I would enjoy it as much if the only way I could get my coffee from here is by finding the hidden employees at hidden cafe. Trying to find a barista to order coffee, before I've had coffee, sounds daunting. Although, it would make that cup of joe so much more rewarding. Honestly, if the employees did start hiding, I'd still go here. That's how good their coffee and carrot cake is and how confident I am in my seeking abilities. This spot holds a special place in my heart. I love walking here on days off or on weekends to have a picnic in the park. I love how family friendly this place is, and it's a great spot to be entertained by dogs running around freely. I love their rotating chai options. My favourites have been the coco chai and the Rasa chai so far. I also love that they have different eating options in residence that rotate through! And if you want to eat and drink there, there's a whole outdoor grassy area/park and a few tables and chairs outside.
