Although the recession isn't over, I have tried their specialty sandwiches. The roasted veggie sandwich was just so awesome. So much flavor. I don't usually do vegetarian, but this was good. I also tried the turkey with cranberry. It was also very good, but I liked the veggie better. Still think their daily specials are so awesome and good (though I can see why the specialty sandwiches cost more). I really hope this last review fires her once and for all. I work service as well and I'm really understanding to other cashIers; however, there was this blonde waitress who was so condescending. Upon asking her for the price of an item she replied: "the menu is right there. You can read right???" We ended up going to The Hideaway on a recommendation from a friend since we had a terrible experience at Mezcal. I was part of a group for a birthday and we had a fantastic time! We all really enjoyed the 80s and 90s hip hop and the drinks were more affordable and definitely not weak! It's definitely dive-y but it was more of what we were looking for, no one was snobby and it was laid back. My only complaint is that when I went outside to smoke, the bouncer clearly saw I was just coming into the area but instead directed me outside of the designated area, along with my girlfriend and we were told we had to pay the cover charge to get back in but, I explained to him that he saw I was just trying to smoke he told me to "calm down, no need to get mad" (I was being nice and just explaining) and he kindly let me back in with my girlfriend. I think they should direct people to the designated area instead of assuming your leaving as it's a little confusing if you've never been there. My friends and I were sitting enjoying the music and our meals but security came to our table and said "you guys gotta move". No sincerity, no manners. OhhhMyGahhhh. I have no idea why it had it taken me such a long time to eat here. The sandwiches are typical, but taste amazing. And I love sandwiches, so amazing is not an exaggeration. The Roasted Vegi Sandwich and the Avo-Vegi Sandwich are a must try. I'm sure the bar experience is just as satisfactory, as other reviews state. Can't hate on cheap beers! Came here with a group of friends to celebrate a friend's birthday and was pleasantly surprised. It's downstairs from the antique shop and was more crowded than I would expect (another sports bar on the main street, Lake Alice, was empty when we went there next). It was a fun atmosphere as they had a pool table, beer pong table and live karaoke/live music. The only reason I didn't give them more stars is the ridiculous price they charge you for soju - one shot at this place is equivalent to me getting two bottles of soju from an asian supermarket...so DON'T order soju here! This place is a hidden gem as it's down in a basement. The owners did a great job decorating the place. All together, I would say the service, food and drinks are great. Come during happy hour as the drinks are buy one and get one free. Also, the appetizers are half priced. Jalapeño poppers are soo delicious! We stopped by after work to check this place out. It is kinda confusing. You walk down and there are two parts to the place. One side is a walk-up counter with the menu on the wall, which I guess is the Galleria Cafe, and next to it is the bar area which is called the Hideaway. So we wanted beer and food and we were confused on if we order the food at the counter and then go to the bar - no signage and noone to direct us. We asked the bartender and he said he could take care of us. They don't really have a menu on the bar side - just a list of the sandwiches- so if you wanted a description of what was on it, you needed to walk over to the cafe and read the menu there.I know they are just getting started, so maybe they are fixing this. They also did not have a beer list, so you had to walk up to the bar and look at everything. Great prices on beer - no kegs though - all bottles, but a good variety. I also think, that the sandwiches were more expensive on the bar side, $6.50 versus $7.95. I don't understand the different pricing, it looked like the service was the same, that they bring it out to you. I don't see why you couldn't order your sandwich on the cheaper side and bring it in - we didn't discover this until we left. The food: I ordered the french dip, which was very good. The meat and bread were nice and tender. The Au Jus is better then a run of the mill cafe. My husband had a Meatloaf sandwich which he liked as well, he said it was nice and moist. The sides were just there - they offered fresh fruit, coleslaw or potato salad. The coleslaw was nothing special. I noticed the menu online offered chips or a side salad and we were not offered these. The sandwiches with these types of boring sides are worth $6.50 - I think $7.95 is too expensive. All in all, we did like the place and we hope they can iron out some of the issues. Everyone was friendly and nice and the atmosphere kick back. read more

(Friday, January 2nd) First off the only reason this place was kind of hard to find last night was because they had mission street blocked off because of some festival. Other then that that there is a huge sign outside that says the Hideaway on it. You literally cant miss it. Okay so the bar has a drink called a red melon ball. It taste exactly like a watermelon jolly rancher. $6 well spent try it if you go. The dj played nothing but good music all night. It was a good crowded. First time coming to this spot and for sure NOT COMING BACK! My friends & I came to this spot because we saw that there was a pool table, drinks & music. There wasn't that many people when we got there & we tried looking for someone that worked there to assist us. When we did we saw the worker too busy on his phone texting or who knows what he was doing? After he assisted us 5 minutes later while standing there he gave us what we needed to play pool. Next to the pool tables there was a music box to play any songs of your choice.We purchased music credits, had a music playlists going on, but the volume was super low. We asked the worker multiple times if he can turn up the volume because it was low & he told us that he couldn't find the remote to turn up the volume ( more like he didn't want to turn up the volume) I mean we did purchase music credits and would want to make it worth our money. Any who, while we were playing pool, I hit the white ball causing to hit another ball and roll out of the table and towards the bar area. I grabbed the ball,tossed it back on top of the table, rolled on the table & some guy (maybe manager/owner/worker)got upset & yelled "Hey, don't be doing that or else you'll break the table!" & I said "No,yeah I know!" My friends and I were HIGHLY CONFUSED because it wasn't that big of deal & for him to get upset over NOTHING! I just wanted to give kudos to the staff for staying patient and positive while they were inundated with a large volume of customers that they didn't know would be coming today. They were definitely overwhelmed but in spite of it all they kept their cool, were kind to everybody and the food was still great. Very peculiar place, a lot of renovations now so its much better. When they're at capacity there's a waiting room with a beer only bar while you wait. It's an antique store so the room feels old but hey pre party spot nonetheless. Going downstairs sucks for chicks wearing heels, I always wonder how many bad wipe outs they've recorded on the security camera. Very long steep set of stairs going down to a bizarre basement with lots of trinkets & antiques to stare at and Christmas lights hanging. The dj is awesome always playing the best jams, always making me want to dance the moment I get there. Space can be cramped when its busy, there's a couple chairs and tables along with beer pong tables and another room in the back with pool tables. terrible place, have came in the past and have had way more fun. I went about a month ago and had to pay a 20$ cover each to get in with my friends. I was reluctant but my friends really wanted to (it was a friday night) we walk down the stairs after paying the cover charge to see literally 2 other patrons in the entire establishment. they were playing music but all the lights were on. I thought it wasn't worth it (we were there for no more than 30 seconds ) so i walked up to to the bouncer and asked for my money back as we would be leaving without even getting a drink and they refused, saying that we "should have known" that the place wasn't busy.. how can we know if it's underground? after pleading with him for about 10 minutes they finally told me NO in a very rude way, so I decided to get a drink. they don't have a full bar, they don't even have a liquor license... bartender (a man) was being rude so I didn't even order a drink. I opted for water instead but guess what!!! they CHARGE you for CUPS OF WATER. it's just a dollar but still, water should always be free, stay far away from this place as i've heard of stabbing happening as well due to security not being thorough with their pat downs as well as letting in their "regulars".... read more

The Hideaway was poppin' compared to the completely dead atmosphere at the Menagerie. The name is fitting; the bar is down a set of stairs, past the hilariously dressed/posed mannequin (really, she's even funnier after a few drinks), and around the corner. It's a beer and wine establishment, $2 bottled beer, $3.50 for the rest, but they also serve jello shots with soju. Bar food wise, there are greasy appetizers and sandwiches on the menu. Though noisy, the place is very laid back and attracts a variety of clientele. It's more on the dive-y side, but it's certainly a gem in the rough. read more

OK. We were visiting Riverside to see a friend perform in a concert. Found this place nearby and decided to try it. The wife had a grilled veggie sandwich, soup, and ice tea. She was thrilled. I went for the BBQ sandwich with potato salad. Ugh. It came out with cold, greasy string fries on top of a meat sauce soaked piece of bread cut in half. Sandwich was miserable and the potato salad was some sort of pre-made thing that totally sucked. I'm home now with a bowl of cereal trying to reset my stomach five hours later. Looks like the locals are made of sterner stuff than I from all the rave reviews. I have visited this cafe twice with my husband and twice walked out. I cannot comment on the food as it appears it is impossible to get served here. We waited at the counter for five minutes to have no one acknowledge us. The blond bartender came out from the side bar and did not say a word. I was so annoyed when I left I made sure to let the manager at the front desk know my displeasure. We walked across the courtyard to Antonios pizza and got served immediately. Though the place really suffers from what I like to call BAD SIGNAGE, or more bluntly their menu is poorly placed and is badly designed. That's just a pet peeve of mine of course My main issue comes from the nightlife. In the simplest terms cramped, stuffy, and a fire hazard waiting to happen. Not to mention the very aggressive staff who was angry about me grabbing a napkin to dry my sweat. With 18 beers advertised as on tap, I thought there would be a chance for a local cider on tap. Only Angry Orchard is offered. I asked the server if there were any other ciders, perhaps bottled, since I also saw bottled beer. She pointed out the beer menu and especially the light beers. I don't think she is familiar with cider. California has fantastic cider! But it's not offered here. I had the Angry Orchard and a Cobb salad and my bill was $16. Found this fun little spot while spending the afternoon in downtown Riverside! Its casual - reasonable - and the food was great. We enjoyed a Turkey Rubin - which they made for us on request! Things have changed and not for the better. Since when did they stop serving fries with sandwiches?? I just spent $6.99 for a half of a grilled cheese. I even mentioned to my boyfriend who ordered a turkado for $9.99 IN FRONT of the cashier that they come with fries so that will be plenty of food and she didn't bother to say anything at all. Instead you're given a small snack size bag of chips. There is nothing on the menu that says that whatsoever. Instead it is listed on the paper menus in fine print if you're so lucky to get one. I understand that things change for companies all the time but this change led to me never coming back here. It was a waste of money for what was given to us.
