So here it is: only since moving to Wisconsin a few years ago did I start to eat white fish. Which is a very good thing as Wisconsin seems to have a very fish-centric culture on Fridays. The Hideaway has an excellent fish fry, my boyfriend is a huge fan of their bluegill which he says is rare to find on menus. I'll take his word since I'm a fish fry novice. I usually steal a bite or two of his fried fish as I cannot seem to do a whole plate of the crispy fried stuff by myself. I can however easily chow down on the Hideaway's blackened walleye. It was perfectly blackened and very flavorful served with generous portions of either fries, potato pancakes, or baked spuds. I opted for the fried because it was what I craved that night. There was no way I could have possibly finished the two huge walleye filets and the fries and the coleslaw. I've also had the burger which was just ok, but I thought their grilled spicy chicken sandwich was much better. I'm a girl who positively craves hot sauce so I feel compelled to try it every place I visit that has a "spicy" version of whatever on their menu. While I haven't had their pizzas they look amazing, very thin and crispy with lots of toppings. It's on the list to try but we keep getting distracted by the fish. read more

I love chicken wings. I guess you could say I'm a chicken wing aficionado. I'd read something about the Hideaway having great wings and a wings special on Weds., I knew I had to stop in. The special is $0.35 cent wings all night. Tossed in your choice of our special sauces: wimpy, medium, hot, inferno, honey-mustard, BBQ, teriyaki, thai-chili, jerk, or order them naked with the sauce on the side. So, as you can see, they have a great selection for different tastes. And the wings are HUGE and very meaty. This should be my absolute favorite place for wings. But the sauces aren't anything to write home about. They aren't awful but there's nothing distinguishing about them and they just don't stand out from wings at any other bar in Milwaukee. If you love wings and more concerned about bang for your buck, definitely come here. They are the biggest wings I've seen served in Milwaukee. If they could only come up with better sauces, I'd be a regular there! read more

They have a large variety of fish fry and seafood: Lake Perch, Walleye, beer battered - Cod, Shrimp, baked Cod, Wisconsin Platter, Friday Trio, Seafood Platter, Fried Sea Scallops, and Blue Gill. All dinners included a choice of potato, cole slaw, and rye bread. Price range from $8.25 to $14.99. Not bad but not great. No WOW factor. Usually if you tell a foodie that the Hideaway has really good wings you get one of two reactions: where? Or omg, I know, but it's so far! I would like to give this place 5 stars but the service here is hit or miss. I've had great experiences and not so great ones. The food, especially the chicken wings, is the real star. I will second the sauces could be better feeling the other yelp reviews have, but tonight they had a bourbon siracha that I couldn't help but like. It was more sweet than spicy, but way better than a regular bbq sauce. I have yet to try the fish fry which I hear is fantastic. The wings are worth the drive! The place is busy most nights. The key is early or late. Before 5 or after 7 and parking is no problem. I would definitely say this is a suburban gem. read more

Place was definitely hopping when we arrived for lunch. Unpretentious, just a good local bar/restaurant. Free popcorn while you wait, popped fresh. Ordered the chicken quesadilla appetiser - good, and hearty, certainly not tiny portion. It's Friday so tempted to try the fish fry but the prime rib sandwich called to me. Served overdone but not dry, with pepperjack, sauteed onions and mushrooms and fries. Very good. Son got the DIY chicken sandwich just like he ordered it, no complaints. My fiancee and I wanted to find a place to eat near our new apartment. We found the Hideaway right down the street and it seemed to have a nice number of cars for a Thursday night. Went in and it was warm: people having good conversations, bartenders smiling, sports on TV for the dudes, bunch of high def TVs scattered around, sounds of the electronic gambling machines you find all around bars in Milwaukee, and a nice display of liquor. My picky fiancee has worked in restaurants all his life and it's really hit and miss with us on service. We sat at the bar and I regretfully ordered a water while he ordered a $4.50 Guinness. A good price, he says. Our prompt waitress asks for our order. I get the chicken Garbage, and he got some steak sandwich but I don't really care about his food. The Garbage was a fully sized juicy grilled chicken breast on a toasted bun with cheddar cheese, lettuce, sauteed onions, mushrooms, tomato, kosher deli pickles and thick smoky bacon. I couldn't fit the whole thing in my mouth, but I didn't use a fork either. I mowed that thing down like it was my last meal. My fiancee said that was one of the best steak sandwiches he's ever eaten, and for two great sandwiches with fries and a Guiness it came out to $25. I happily put a $30 down, and The Hideaway is definitely going on our list of favorite places to eat. read more

Chose this place based on Yelp reviews. Went on a Monday night at 7pm, and the place was not busy at all. The raspberry margaritas were decent, and they had a $1 off special on them. I had a burger, which was pretty good, just a little too much pepper, but I still ate the whole thing! My friends each had the patty melt. They loved them, and they were nice size sandwiches. Fish is fabulous from cod, perch to variety on the Wisconsin plate. Clam chowder and jalapeño popper dip is a perfect start to your Friday meal! Suggestion for staff why do you need to throw the glass bottles so hard in the recycling container? You could place the bottles not see how loud you can smash the glass. Overall delicious fish!! Best part they take reservations year-round no matter the size of your party! Casual dress code...comfortable setting. Highly recommend. Terrible service. They have a menu listed Wednesday wing special of $.50 cents per wing. We received our bill and we were charged $.80 cents per wing. The waitress lied to us 3 different times that the menu was wrong, and then that there is a wing shortage and that we should be happy there are wings. I will not return. read more

Food and service are not consistent. We were there a couple of times and the food was great but the last few times there were serious issues with the food. We ordered the beef tips with noodles, which was excellent in the past. When the order came the noodles were way over cooked. When we mentioned it our server who offered to replace the dish with potatoes, instead of noodles. Once I ordered a salad and it came drowned in dressing. I mentioned it to my server who agreed and brought it back to the kitchen so they could "add more lettuce". Another visit, our appetizer arrived and then our dinner came out minutes later. He server apologized for not having time between the appetizer and dinner. This last visit, our pretzels and beer cheese were brought out by kitchen staff, not a server and the cheese dip was cold and the pretzels were tough. Usually the wait staff if very pleasant but we have had a couple of bar tenders that seemed annoyed to be working and that "serving" is was a chore. We don't plan on patronizing again any time soon. Gave it another try tonight, UGH! I ordered a salad with crispy chicken. The chicken was clearly fried in the same oil as the Friday night fish fry. Good thing I am not allergic. They "told the kitchen" whatever that means.... disgusting. read more

My husband and I got married outside and had our wedding reception in their banquet room a few days ago. I am so glad we did. The whole day was flawless. Debbie, Tina, Amanda and Sandy and so many others made our day amazing. They made sure they took care of the smallest details, which made the whole day less hectic for us. All our guest loved, loved the food. (the broasted chicken, beef and garlic mashed potatoes were top picks) Many of guest said they will come back to try the food agin. The bartenders worked so hard from the cocktail hour until the bar closed. My husband and I, as well as our guest appreciated that. I am in the process of working out the details of hosting a baby shower in the next few months, I cannot imagine going anywhere else after the terrific experience we had. My in-laws that are Wisconsin natives and Friday fish fry experts said the fish was perfect and some of the best they have had in a long time. Also the amount of fish for the price was a great value. Excellent beer selection. Good food. TERRIBLE MANAGMENT. Went the on December 22 after work with a group of friends for a Christmas get-together. We started filling in about 3:30. 4:00 shift change for the wait staff, and our new waitress says we'll have to leave the table by 5:30 because it is reserved. I jokingly said there's no "Reserved" sign, what's up? 2 minutes later she tossed the said Reserved sign on the table. I asked again, and she said there is nothing she can do, it's the manager's husband and a group of friends, and they reserved two tables. OK, whatever. At about 5:00, she says we have to leave now, because they moved their reservation up to 5:15. No apologies, no "We're sorry for the inconvenience, can we do something to make it up?"...nothing. So the 8 of us piled our coats on a nearby bar stool, and shared a small table nearby. At no time did any waitress (3 on duty, I believe) swing by for drink orders, offer popcorn (free)..we were pretty much ignored while all 3 were getting the Manager's husband's table ready. When we did ask for some fresh popcorn, we were given one basket (for 8 people). Fast forward to 6:45. There are 3 guys at the "Manager's Husband's" tables. We were asked to leave our table early, and more than an hour and a half after, 3 guys are taking up two large tables. I wrote a letter addressed to the owner and mailed it on December 27th, included my phone number and E-Mail address. Have had no response at all. Our group will now find a new "After Work" meeting spot. I choose to spend my money where I will get better treatment than what we got. EDIT: I wrote a letter to the owner on Dec. 27. I received a call from the owner last night, telling she just got the letter yesterday.. She was very apologetic. She asked if she could show the letter to the staff that was working that night, and I agreed. She asked that I give them another chance, which I most likely will. To be continued... read more

The waitress was very nice, but we never saw her after she gave us our drinks. The bourbon shrimp sandwich has an off putting sauce on it and the shrimp was mushy. Aloha Sandwich was a pork loin dried to death. Baked chicken dry. Tator tots were tasty. Not sure we'll be back. read more

The Hideaway looks like a place where friends might go for a few beers and some chow, maybe play darts, maybe have a party in the back room. You would expect some type of pub food to be served there. But, don't let any of that fool you...the food is very, very good. Appetizers are excellent, the salads are unique, delicious and are something you might find in a finer, sit-down restaurant. Your choices of pizza, sandwiches and entrees are plentiful and varied. My wife had a "Jezebel" sandwich that she couldn't stop raving about. My full rack of BBQ ribs were outstanding (maybe just a hair too much sauce), and if you like "falling off the bone" ribs, then this place is for you. We first visited this establishment back in 1999. The food was okay, but nothing special. We would order their Friday fish fry 1-2 times a year, but otherwise saw no other reason to frequent the place. But, somewhere along the line something changed, and for the better, because it is not the same menu or food as in the past...it seems like a different establishment altogether. No matter what we have ordered lately, it has all been quite tasty. The parking can be a bit of a problem, but that's only because they have a large and faithful clientele. The food is GOOD and worth the wait. The crowd is lively and friendly. It's easy to get there...just gotta find a place to park. We will be back soon. read more

This rating is specifically for the fish fry. My husband and I came in around 7:30 and were able to sit right away (the table was dirty and I had to use my napkin to wipe it down). We ordered the two piece with potato pancakes and 3 piece with baked potato. The food came out almost instantly - within 3 minutes of ordering. That's not a good sign. The potato pancake was dark brown (burnt) on the outside and grayish brown on the inside. I asked the server if that was normal and she said "I'm not sure". I asked to have it replaced with tator tots which she did but never removed the burnt grey potato pancake from the table. The baked potato was warm at best. And the fish was luke warm, chewy and dry. I'm certain that our whole meal (except for the tots) had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. The ketchup bottle was sticky and dirty, the atmosphere was meh and the service was ok. My wife and I just tried Hideaway for the first time after hearing how great it was. We were underwhelmed with the food, although we found the service to be pleasant. It was Thursday, All-You - Can -Eat chicken night. The chicken was really tough, especially the skin. I could barely chew the piece my wife gave me to try. I had fried chicken breast with shredded onion rings inside a flour tortilla topped with cheddar cheese sauce. It came with fries which were so-so but then I'm not a French fry fan. She asked if I needed box for leftovers. Not sure where they stock them but that even took forever. By this time the place was no longer busy so not sure the reason for delay. It was after 2pm by time she brought our bill. Really--- 2 +hours for lunch??? I'd go back again for food but if service is always slow motion I don't think I can do it. Excellent fish fry, get there early or you will be waiting. We actually had to park on the street due to the parking lot being filled. The menu is basic with a small assortment of AP's to choose from. The drinks are very weak, if you are going there to drink, it may take a while to get a buzz.. If you are going to the Hideaway, you are going for the food, and good food. Our table ordered everything from the fried fish to the baked, and everyone had good things to say.
