Conch fritters were the worst I have ever had. They were soft (did not taste as though they were just made) maybe baked?? and full of stuffing and there was no conch pieces in them. If there was ground up conch you could not tell. Very very disappointing As for the fried fish platters it was excellent!! ***STEER CLEAR OF THE HIDEOUT*** I came back to this place because I loved their crab cake Benedict. My friend was in town so I brought her here. She ordered the lobster Benedict and so did our other friend, while I opted for the crab cake. Our ordered got reversed and I was served the lobster, while them two received the crab cake. When we advised the waitress of the errors she brought the manager over, which is a thin blonde lady (missing some teeth) who had the audacity to say the order was correct and that the lobster I had was in fact crab. Not only is this a blatant disregard for the customer's wishes but also potential serious food allergies/poisoning. This situation is preposterous and unheard of all because they did not care to rectify the order, replace our plates and/or comp the bill. I have been here a few times before so I know what is what, besides the fact that lobster chunks look like lobster and shredded crab looks like crab.... Ended up leaving cash on the table for the coffee we got after 20 min, and walking out and as we were walking out they said "thank you!" As if we weren't walking out due to being ignored. We were heading back home from Islamorada and were starving so finding a place is never fun when you're hangry! I saw a sign that said breakfast and lunch so I quickly made a right turn and headed down the one-lane road to the end. This is our kind of place. An out-of-the-way diner on the waterfront. Walking in we were greeted by a friendly local who told us to grab a seat anywhere. Our beverage orders were taken quickly and we felt comfortable browsing the specials on the wall and the menu. No rush here, which we like. The breakfast choices are plenty and the prices are reasonable. Opting for lunch instead of breakfast, I felt bold and ordered the Fish Reuben. My choice was sauerkraut or slaw so I felt slaw went better with fish. I'm glad I made that choice. The sandwich was super delicious, and I even ate the bread (rare). I thought the fish would be something like cod or tilapia, but NO...it was GROUPER. My husband ordered the assorted seafood platter and it was piled high. While the items were all fried, the breading was thin and the seafood was thick. We made this our regular favorite place each time we go down to the Keys (often). I want to comment on the smoking from other reviewers. They do allow smoking in the dining section BUT IT IS OUTSIDE. The outside area is screened in and you do not smell the smoke inside. It really annoys me when non-smokers complain about people smoking outside. Everyone has a right to smoke, or not smoke, and should not be exposed to one or the other. Therefore, if you do not want to be near the smoke, do not sit in the screened in area. read more

Always our favorite spot when visiting key largo. The vibe is homey and has a great local feel. We enjoy sitting outside and socializing with other locals and visitors. You can bring your doggie. They will come with a bowl of water and the staff with make your Fido feel at home. My husband always gets the redneck breakfast. Eggs, sausages, homemade biscuits smothered with gravy. He wipes his plate clean. I always have the veggie omelette egg whites with their home potatoes yummy. Found this little gem many years ago. Small quaint place for breakfast and lunch! We were very happy to hear that they survived Hurricane Irma! The staff is amazing and very friendly! We went yesterday for my husbands favorite, the SOS but sadly they didn't have any. Kathy assured us the owner was making it and to come back tomorrow for some, well we did and it was delish as usual! The staff is so accommodating that one of the waitresses (Linda) actually ran to the owners house to get it for us. Nestled in the back of a neighborhood against the water. This jewel is very quaint and homey. We had lobster bites to start and they were packed to the brim and fried to perfection. The tater dipping sauce was different with a little bite on the back end. The grouper sand which, seafood platter, lobster platter and Philly omelet where all delicious. Someone in the campground told us about Hideout's Friday night fish special. It's $13.95 for all you can eat fish, with free beer. I was skeptical. What kind of fish? What kind of beer? We came for breakfast, and we weren't disappointed. I grew up going to the keys my entire life. I can see why tourists may be put off by the kitschy decor, and overall feel of the restaurant, but that's part of it's flair. It's an authentic local keys restaurant, and that's what makes it charming. We came in at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. We were a party of six, and were sat immediately. We were greeted right away, ordered, and got our drinks immediately. Our breakfast came out promptly, and HOT. The hash brown casserole is a MUST. Delicious! I enjoyed my omelet, and are every bite. My kids loved their eggs and pancakes. Some may say it's hard to mess up breakfast, but it actually isn't. Eggs get cold right away, so in a large party, my expectations for a hot breakfast are usually pretty low. In addition, the service was relaxed, but efficient. I go the Key Largo often, and I'm already planning my next visit to Hideout. I've never been for lunch or dinner, but the breakfast was good, and I will definitely go back. read more

I woke up Sunday morning in the Keys craving lobster benedict. We were driving back from our house in Tavernier to our house in Miami as I searched all over Yelp for somewhere that served this. I came across The Hideout and called to make sure they had it. I was told it was a lobster cake... close enough for me! We got there and got seated right away. It was a little warm in the restaurant but I just put my hair up in a pony tail and was ok. We ordered right away and the food came not too long after. My boyfriend got the redneck breakfast which he loved and I got the lobster cake benedict. Omg yum! It was delicious! The home fries on the side with onions were delicious, too. Hidden Out is divey, out of the way, a little crowded, but we really enjoyed the food. We stopped by for breakfast after seeing the reviews on Yelp and we weren't disappointed. I had a blueberry pancake, fried potatoes, and sausage, all of which were great. My husband had a Western Omelette, grits and toast, and raved. They have a great breakfast selection. The service was fantastic, the waitress could not have been nicer. The place felt like we were eating at a relative's house, rather than a restaurant, which I enjoyed. Prices were very affordable.
