So far I have booked an all over color, gloss, a hair cut and deep condition and don't have any major issues! I appreciate the inclusivity as well as the communication and support from the front desk and employee!s! There is a rainbow tree inside and I absolutely love it, it's very colorful and the layout doesn't make you feel too cramped. Emma was very thorough and worked her wonders! I had such a great experience here! My stylist was Lyz and she did a fabulous job! I wanted something a soft--not choppy--low maintenance layered look and she delivered. I originally called in to try and book time with Shelby, as recommended by one of my mommy friends. But since Shelby wasn't available, the front desk person recommended Lyz based on my questions. I had a good experience with The Hideout Salon and Lounge! I chose it because they don't charge prices based on gender stereotypes, but rather by length. Prices are transparent on their site and in front of the store. Overall, the salon felt very inclusive. I was able to quickly book my haircut online on their website. I was able to land a next-day haircut with Lyz. I thought she did a great job with my bangs and I enjoyed chatting with her. The front desk person was also very friendly. Overall, I appreciated everyone's energy. Parking was super easy - they have their own parking lot! They also have a gender neutral bathroom. I really loved this place when I first went back in December, and I wanted to give them a chance to fix what happened Sunday, but I sent the pictures to the manager 4 days ago (as was requested when I called to tell them I wasn't happy) and I haven't heard back from her or anyone else. My hair got absolutely trashed. There's no better way to say it. I wanted blonde with a shadow root and I ended up with yellow and patches/splotches/random lines of the brown that was supposed to be the shadow root and terrible transition overall. I will post the pictures because I don't really know how to describe this monstrosity. I went in with completely virgin hair that took me 5 years of growing and cutting to achieve, and the stylist said she was excited to do what I asked for.... She took a before picture, but definitely no after. Also, my daughter was with me and had an appointment as well. When scheduling online, I selected "all over color" for her. She wanted her brown darkened and to have pink streaks/highlights. I was told that she couldn't because that "was an all day thing" and "that's not what you scheduled her for" and "I have something to do after this..." Fine, whatever, my bad I guess? So she decides she at least wanted the dark brown freshened up. The difference was minute, except for the hair dye all over her face and her level of disappointment (she's 11 and school starts in a couple days, so she was reaaaaaally excited). Anyway, I paid (a LOT) and left because I had a debilitating migraine and couldn't see straight. I glanced at my hair in their super dark bathroom and knew it wasn't right but I couldn't stand to be there any longer, as it had been 5-6 hours already. It wasn't until I got home, got rid of the migraine, and really looked in good lighting that I realized I had been done so incredibly dirty. I was devastated. I still am. Like I said, I called and emailed pictures four days ago. I tried to be patient but I look like I let my 3 year old bleach my hair. In fact, a lady at Walmart asked me if I did it myself last night, and she asked with pity in her eyes and tone. Four days is a long time when you look like an absolute clown. I spent over $600 to come home and wear a hat everywhere and be 200 times more self conscious than I have EVER been. I just want my $$$ back, honestly. I can't fathom going back to let anyone try to fix it. I now need to find someone to do a color correction and it will probably cost even more. read more

Yikes. If you've ever wondered how your hair would look if Helen Keller got a hold of it, then this is the place for YOU! "Hideout" is *EXACTLY* what you're going to need to do for the first 3-6 weeks after letting this alleged salon touch your hair, honey. While the staff and stylist were nice (which is why I'm giving 2 stars and not 1), they were also scattered and totally disorganized. No leader in this salon, babe. I reached out via social media (IG) about a "men's haircut" and was advised there was no such thing as a "man." Alrighty then. When I got home my boyfriend started laughing. "What's so funny?" I asked. "Your HAIR," he exclaimed. "What happened?!" Anyway... my boyfriend (who identifies as a 'man') got out his clippers out and proceeded to do (for free) what Hideout could not. Oh, and did I mention this East Nashville dive charges $49 for its least expensive haircut?! Thats not including tax or tip, mind you. I live in one of the most expensive parts of Los Angeles and have never been charged more than $40 for a high quality haircut. God bless The Hideout! (Gurl, I wish He would!) Couldn't recommend this place more! It was super easy to make an appointment, and they walked me through the best hair stylist for me based on hair type and availability. I wanted a shag cut, and some kind of fun color that was still natural. My previous color from a different salon was not done well at all, and Ash fixed me right up! Lyric is an awesome stylist, they helped me try anime blue hair and then helped me manage it growing out when it as gracefully as possible when I decided it was a one and done experience despite how cool it looked. I had a haircut that needed to be redone. I came into Hideout around 10:30 and was told Macks could see me at 11:45 to take a look. They fit me in same day which I appreciated. Macks was able to even my hair out and I was able to leave the salon feeling confident. They didn't charge me and gave me some free product. Chelsea and her staff are incredible! The Hideout is a safe space for everyone and I appreciate all they do to benefit the community. I've had everything from quick trims to complicated color corrections here and I've been happy every time, and with all different stylists. Most importantly, every time I'm there I see the stylists talking to each other and teaching each other, which shows how dedicated they are to their craft. When i walked in the staff had such a good vibe. They made me feel comfortable the whole time and my hair looks amazing thank you so much!

*I was told a pro stylist would do my hair, it was in fact an apprentice who messed it up quite badly TWICE in one day. Had they told me when making the appt an untrained person would do it I would not have scheduled and I feel they know that and misled to get business. *I was given a quote of around $160 and even after 6.5 hours there getting my hair fried they tried to charge $380. I dead fast refused. They then said $285 is all they can do even though I was quoted $160 PLUS you ruined my hair double bleaching and double coloring. *He not only put a crazy orange color on it but he also didnt even do the roots I came in for. This is the reason for a double bleach. That bleach sat for 47 minutes unchecked and only after I asked another employee to check it did he come back out. The 2nd color pink was still wayyyy off from what I had been getting there since 2023. Not sure how both colors were so wrong when he told me there is a color recipe that tell exactly what to mix in. * After 6.5 hours and my hair being fried and a horrible color I had to pay and leave. Of course I am upset, if I can post pics you will see why there were lots of tears on top of being charged way almost double. I decided when paying to say something about this and asked for a receipt. I forget to get it and when I came back in to get it Shelby body checked me while I was bent over taking a pic of my payment from the ipad screen. Physical contact and posturing for an attack on a distraught client yall have horribly wronged? Really? To top it off while am Im backing out of my handicap spot in tears from ruined hair, overcharges, misleading info, and an employee being aggressive I look up and see Shelby on my dashcam doing the "bye b*tch" wave and blowing kisses at me. To be honest Her borderline bullying, taunting, and bodily space violations are why I decided to speak up. Being misleading about skill levels to get business, dishonesty pricing practices, messing up hair, and damagin hair could have at some point been forgotten by just never going back, esp since the owner called me after I left and refunded the overage to make at the le price right. Doesnt help my hair or the extra salon visit to fix it but it is something. What I can't let go of is this young lady who in 6.5 hours never spoke to me or even made eye contact felt the need to leave her client in the chair, come into the next room, and try to start a physical altercation with an older disabled woman. Then trying to really rub salt in the wound by taunting when the client is pulling away. Bullying is not ok esp when you market this business as a safe space. The owner Chelsea the owner told me on the phone (which was recorded for my safety) she reviewed the footage and saw no problem with the violation of body space/contact, not a problem with the extra taunting. If you choose to go here: Make sure you ask EXACTLY the year of professional licensed time the stylist being book with has. If booked with an apprentice make sure you get a clear yes or no on if the service is actually 50% off. I saw a sign on the door stating this when I was in my car with the 2nd set of foils and asked. When I got to checkout and asked a 2nd time and was told tech no, even though he is an apprentice and the sign staes it. After over processing my and turning it to a weird pink/orange shade of dried straw Im surprised the didnt offer a discount, they went the other way and over charged by $125 which did again get refunded. Get the stylist to jot down the price of your service. If hourly how much per hour and how many hours they estimate. My hair took less than 2 hours with the pro stylist before this. He took 3.5 the first time and 3 hours the second time due to working very slowly and talking. I do not know if he is just slow due to learning or milking the hourly rate clock. Make sure to pay with a credit card. Disputes like this are more easily handled by credit card companies than debit. Debit one you pay it id hard to get resolve. Most importantly know bullying and mistreating heartbroken, screwed over clients is not only an employee issue but the owner says she sees nothing wrong with it. Said "she is just protective". Protective of what an almost 50 year old woman with a spine disability on the verge of tears? Being upset because your hair looks hideous and you are actively being ripped off and overcharges I guess made Shelby feel the need to run into the next room and use her body to try to intimidate or silence someone. I love this place. I have had my curly hair cut by Shelby and Lyric, both did excellent jobs! I mostly book with Shelby. I tell her to do whatever she thinks is best and I always love it. She usually cuts off the dead ends and gives me layers. I have a lot of social anxiety and hate talking during hair appointments. Shelby never bothers me and just has a couple of friendly comments. The vibe of the salon is great. I love that they have have LGBTQ+ and POC resources and art everywhere. I have recommended Hideout to two of my friends after they had bad experiences other places. After seeing Hideout working and partnering with other local businesses for B Hayes' second chance prom, I knew I had to support them and I'm so glad I did: this may be my favorite place to get my haircut! I've been bouncing around to different stylists and salons due to price raises or not being completely satisfied with other places' services and decided to make a trip to Hideout. Lyric did my cut, which included the cut and a shampoo for $34! Honestly a great deal! Usually I don't like forcing out a conversation for 30 minutes with hair stylists, but Lyric was genuinely just so nice and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. I don't think I've ever used Yelp to leave a negative review. I don't like to complain, and I don't like to jeopardize the reputation of any business. I also don't think my opinion matters that much, and I despise taking the time to do this. However, this situation made me so stankin' mad that I gotta say something and warn other potential customers. I was in need of a haircut for an upcoming event this week. My usual place was all booked up (understandable - they're amazing) so I decided to support another local East Nashville Salon. I thought this place looked cool and liked the easygoing vibe. Perhaps they're too easygoing because they have failed to update their new address across several platforms on the interwebs. Because of this, Lyft sent the driver to their old address. When I couldn't find the salon, I called and told them "Hey so sorry - I was going to be right on time, but Lyft dropped me off in the wrong spot." The gal that answered the phone was nice enough, but she didn't make any mention that indicated they had moved and that's why I might've been sent to the new location. That would've been helpful! I called another Lyft. 5 minutes later, I got picked up again. The gentleman driving this second Lyft drove up and down Gallatin trying to help me find the salon, and eventually dropped me off at the same location. "This is the spot, ma'am. This is where maps is taking me. Also, see on the door? It says long haircuts, short haircuts, etc... that's the building." he said. "DUH! I'm so sorry - I don't know how I missed it. I'm sorry you drove me around for nothing." When I went to open the door, it was locked shut. I looked inside only to find paint buckets and an abandoned building. So they moved locations, didn't update their address, and didn't remove the signage from the old building. How much more confusing can you make it? I tried calling again to apologize, and this time they didn't answer their phone. In the midst of all of this, I got a call that my new puppy who I'd had for only two weeks escaped due to a fence falling down from the high winds the day before. At this point, I dropped everything, called Lyft back up, and went home. I never heard from the salon. The puppy is at home and just fine now. I digress. So THEN later when I checked my bank account, I saw a charge for $116.00. This was 50% of the cost of my estimated bill. That's right. I got charged a no-show fee because my Lyft driver got lost because the salon's address isn't updated. Check out the screenshots - It isn't updated on multiple websites - Lyft, Yelp, Mapquest, etc. The Main St. address is their old location. So because the salon didn't do what they're supposed to do, I'm getting punished? Apparently, my "cancellation" caused the gal to have to turn down several other appointments - FYI, her schedule was wiiiiiiiide open when I made the appointment. They have been difficult and have refused to refund me even though I've explained the situation and provided screenshot evidence. Absolutely absurd, and honestly, it kind of feels like a scam. I get it - business is slow and this is an easy way to make some cash. No sir, no ma'am. I won't be trying to return. I'll stick with the salon I know and love, and won't try to venture out ever again. On the bright side, some of these haircuts don't look that great. Could be a blessing in disguise. Also, I've noticed that anytime any customer leaves negative feedback about this place the owner throws it back on the customer. She's way too overly defensive. Sorry, you can't run a successful business with a "the customer is never right" attitude. So I fully expect to hear back on this review and be told that it's all my fault! At least that's the way I was made to feel via my email exchange with the manager/owner/whatever. Anyway, I recommend avoiding The Hideout Salon and Lounge at all costs - it sounds like they'll do anything to make a buck-- even if it's dishonest. UPDATE per Chelsea's response: Would you PLEASE get a handle on this situation? I called you guys and YOU didn't answer your phone. Also, businesses move locations all the time, and it's updated in Lyft and everywhere else. I've NEVER had this problem before, ever. i am extremely particular about my hair, it contributes a LOT to my self-image. since moving to nashville almost 2 years ago, away from my mom who's a hairstylist and has been the only person to ever cut my hair, i haven't been able to find a reliable stylist to go to that i trust wholeheartedly. but a few days ago i decided i NEEDED a cut so badly that i would just have to risk putting my trust in someone new. a while ago, i got my hair pretty fucked up by someone else, so for that reason & others i was nervous & apprehensive. first off, the salon has an atmosphere that's homey & welcoming (with plants all over, pride flags and art on the walls, good music playing) VS the average salon (white/brown/beige/grey color scheme, cold & stoic feeling). this is definitely a safe space for the misfits of nashville - the queer, neurodivergent, eccentric in style, etc. you will feel right at home here. the stylists all look really cool too and are very nice. they also have a diverse staff which is so important. this space is open to everyone, but i want to emphasize that if you are specifically neurodivergent &/or part of the LGBT+ community, you WILL feel safe here! as a trans autistic person w adhd i know how hard it is to find someone/someplace that makes you feel safe and knows how to accommodate, and this can lead to abandoning the search and never getting the service at all. but the hideout salon gets it. if you relate to this paragraph and are thinking of booking an appointment here, it's worth a shot. i really don't think you'll be disappointed. My stylist was izzy. he put me right at ease within the first 5 minutes of our appointment. this was the most accommodating experience i've ever had, and not in a way that made me feel coddled either. he was SUCH a good listener and always checked that i was comfortable with something before doing it (touching my head, taking length off, etc). i've never been good at explaining what i want with my hair but despite my lacking the vocabulary to communicate, izzy was so very patient with me and asked all the right questions. he definitely knows his shit. throughout the cut i would ask questions just out of curiosity and he was happy to explain what he was doing, why it worked & would achieve the vibe i was going for, etc. i had never been so confident that i would be leaving loving my hair. and i was right! the style (a short, above-the-chin-haircut btw) is perfect and i feel so good with what he gave me. thank you izzy, im definitely coming back! read more

They were both very kind and helpful and really reiterated that they want all of their clients to be happy with their hair. Chelsea, the owner, evened out my layers on my hair. She then showed me different approaches on how to style it. After going to her, I feel so much more confident and happy with my hair. There's still some parts that were previously cut too short and not in the shape that I wanted. They kindly offered me to have my next two haircuts for free to let it have time to grow out. Chelsea was even kind enough to give me a can of hairspray for free! (Which I absolutely love and holds my hair very well) I will go to see Chelsea, and only her, the next time that I come. I don't leave reviews and I value working things out, especially as a small business owner myself. If you're going to read any review regarding this business let it be this one... This is not a reflection of the stylist that did my hair -- she's really nice. Also Wyatt cuts both mine and my boyfriends hair and they do an awesome job! Unfortunately, we will not be giving this salon our business any longer. This review is about management. Listen, everyone makes mistakes but this mistake came at a $300 cost to me and management refuses to refund me and make this right. My hair is completely ruined. Hair is so important to a woman's confidence and this has mentally put me in a rough spot. I went in for an appointment last week asking for a warm natural looking blonde that would grow out with my natural hair color (see last 3 photos that I showed the stylist.. the very last one is me / my natural hair)... the woman doing my hair said she "didn't use a high enough developer" so I walked out with my hair looking the same as when I came in. At a $300 cost and 4 hours of my time gone. I went back yesterday for a complimentary "re-do". I feel like she went in and WAY over corrected. My hair is patchy, yellow, uneven, looks like my roots are grown out (again.. I asked for a natural look that would grow out with my natural color) and overall done very unprofessionally. If the hairdresser wasn't confident she could do my hair how I asked, them she should have taken a step back and referred me to another stylist. I hate to say it, but this looks like I went and tried to bleach my hair myself. It's SO patchy and yellow. It just looks awful. It's also completely fried. My hair was decently healthy and natural before I went in. Nothing about this looks natural. The manager offered to have me come back in tomorrow and let her take a stab at it (so now a third time applying harsh chemicals to my already damaged hair). I just would like a refund at this point. I cannot risk going back there and having my hair further damaged (I believe this 3rd appointment is an unprofessional recommendation from the manager...), I also can't risk them making it look even worse. I have a wedding coming up and now I look like this. I would greatly appreciate a refund so I can possibly afford to go somewhere else and have it fixed in 3-4 weeks after my hair has healed. This seems pretty unethical to me. I will gladly update this review if/when I am refunded. read more

I had a great experience. Meredith did my hair and let me tell you - she's pretty boss about her knowledge of shaping and how to keep thick wild wavy hair like mine in check. I got highlights (subtle) and a trim to make my hair shape a little less bob-like. Tell her your goals and she'll nail the details. The vibe of the shop itself is welcoming and boldly LGBTQ+ friendly. There's local art everywhere. I was getting a more toned back style, but a lot of folks there were getting really funky cuts and doing wilder color treatments. I saw Xarah Xavier last month just needing my roots bleached to match my already blonde hair, I left with BROWN hair and she reassured it would be back to blonde after a few washes after she saw the look of disappoint and unsureness on my face leaving the salon that day.. After a month of my hair barely fading out I decided to reach out to Xarah on Instagram and she was extremely rude, she spoke to me like I was incompetent to understanding her hair process. I was frustrated since I spent $300+ at this salon and several hours getting my hair worked on. And I was even more devastated after later finding out at Jon Alan salon, that she did indeed ruin my blonde hair by using a dark toner. Taking me back several steps, meaning I would now have to start all over on my journey of blonde to silver...$300+ down the drain, on top of time and more unnecessary damage to my hair.. I recommend friends to now go to Jon Alan, I was treated so well and my stylist Bryson was so understanding and went above and beyond to once again start the process of taking my hair back to blonde. Short review: I think you'd be a great candidate for their abilities if you are open to experimentation that doesn't always go well. So if you like the idea of having your kid sister cut your hair because she's still in cosmetology school then yes...go here. Longer review: I think the people there in the salon are personable and absolutely loving. If you can support a small business do so. As for hair cuts and styling...well...I should have gone elsewhere for my personal styling needs. It appeared that not a single stylist styled or treated their own hair. They all rolled out of bed and started working. haha...I was actually amused by this and went against my better judgement. Thankfully my hair will grow out and I will go elsewhere for hair cuts. My bangs were cut too short and in hindsight an experienced stylist would have advised me to go in a different direction based on the type of hair that I have. I'm making the hair cut work for now...it's just not ideal. read more

This is by far one of the best salons in Nashville - specifically because Louie is a freaking gem of a human. I've followed Louie from the previous gig to this space (which is WAY more up to par with their worth). I have always felt comfortable here. Free to be myself and no one criticizes your hair you've neglected or cut yourself or maybe you're struggling a bit financially and just can't get it done right now - they do not care. Hairdresser was late. Butchered my hair when I just asked for a trim. They made fun of the scar on my head calling it an "Obscurity". I've been here a handful of times and I want to like it so bad but it ain't it. Two stars because they are extremely nice and inclusive. read more
