It's a three and a half for me. I really liked my chicken cutlet sandwich. They were generous with the cheese and the broccoli rabe was spot on-- a perfect mix of bitter and garlicky. I tried a few other things and everything was tasty-- the kids hot dog was surprisingly served on a really nice bun. Unfortunately, fries were overcooked. Our waitress was quite pleasant but she clearly had too many tables to cover. Every time I tried to catch her attention she was sprinting from one table to the next. The big problem here is the friggin' noise level. It's ridiculous. It's already a very loud place even at about half capacity but for some reason they just blast the music. It makes no sense. We went for dinner (two adults) on a Friday night. The parking lot was full, but we still found a spot, though we thought we would have to wait for a table. But it's bigger inside than it seems from the outside and we were seated right away. The beer list is good, lots of options, and the food was pretty tasty, too. I had the Notorious F.I.G. sandwich and was able to substitute French Onion soup for tomato soup. The waitress was very attentive, asking often if we needed anything. Malt House is definitely a great addition to Rockledge. I worked in Rockledge for many years and rumors kept swirling around that Malt House was coming to the area. The excitement sank in when my friend called to make a reservation on Saturday. They weren't taking reservations, but walk-ins were being accepted. When we arrived, the hostess gave us the option to sit inside or outside. They have cute picnic tables with umbrellas out front so we sat outside. The tables were spaced out enough to allow for social distancing. I asked for an El Chavo Mango & Habanero hard cider on draft and unfortunately had to send it right back. My tastebuds couldn't handle it! I ordered an Angry Orchard instead. My friend and I split an order of the fried mozzarella. The outside was crispy and crunchy, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. I liked that they were shaped like triangles. Food is more fun when it's in shapes, right? I ordered cauliflower bites with garlic parm sauce. Delicious! The cauliflower wasn't as crispy as the fried mozzarella, but still very flavorful. It came with a side of sauce (don't know what it was exactly) but it was creamy and savory. Cheese fries are my weakness so I had to get them and they were excellent! It's obvious they make their fries in house. The cheese was smothered on top. Large portion for the price! The menu is smaller than most (I suspect because of COVID). Employees were wearing masks during my visit. Plenty of parking and seating. Great spot to hang out, have a couple beers and enjoy the music coming through the speakers. read more

In the end, it must have still been posted, so, Yelp took it down, which is the right thing to do, so again, my bad, sorry. Came here specifically for the Kielbasa Cheesesteak after some late night drinks at a brewpub. It was definitely a different take on the classic Cheesesteak as the chopped up bits of kielbasa was texturally confusing. Nonetheless, it was still good but just a little too salty. read more

I think we spent our entire Summer here last year. Maybe even most of this one too. So, my first visit taste of Malt House was a few years ago at their original Gaul & Co in Port Richmond and I was an instant follower. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when this one opened in Rockledge. I'm a Polish girl and grew up eating kielbasa, along with every other Polish deliciousness my grandmother made. But I've never had shaved kielbasa like this until Malthouse. Now I have dreams about their egg rolls and cheese sauce. Staff is always friendly and attentive. They have weekly specials and occasionally live music. It's a great Summer hangout with lots of outdoor seating and heated tents when it gets cold. I was given a gift card and I wanted to try some grub so I called in order for pickup and it was ready when I got there. Everything was very fresh and hot. It all looked scrumptious. Burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the fresh cut fries were exceptional. Chicken fingers weren't boring by any means these were fantastic. I really enjoyed the breading and more of the hand cut fries. But I think the star of this food trifecta was the fried brussel sprouts. The order was immense but these were exceptionally delectable. Though a bit of a sports bar, the food is definitely above average bar food. This place has a fun atmosphere to watch a sports game or just hang out. We were headed to Miller's last week out of habit, but he didn't have his vax card, so I suggested this place that had been sending me promos on FB just outside the city limits. I really hope I did not catch COVID. This was like an alternate reality, in a bad way. I just wanted take out. I was told I could not pay by phone, had to go inside and wait by the bar, ignored as the bar staff checked their phones, for 15 minutes as a live band played harmonica and sang 10 feet away. The customers were all unmasked; some were dancing / singing along. The food was fine. I felt physically uncomfortable and it seemed that very few precautions were taken by this establishment to protect the health of their customers. NOTE: The owner responded to my concerns by defensively claiming that I'm not ready to re-enter society. I appreciate this is a hard time to run a business and I feel for them, but the response re-enforces my suspicion that they don't value the health and comfort of patrons. There are several steps that could be taken to improve. Curb side pickup, an indoor pickup station close to the entrance, accepting payment over the phone to minimize in person transaction time, use of shields / sneeze guards at the point of sale, a designated location for pickup to minimize indoor wait time. To the owner, if they are reading this: I am appropriately uncomfortable with indoor dining right now during the height of a global pandemic, which is why I wanted to order take out and not have to be subjected to the risks associated with indoor dining (and apparently indoor singing / wind instrumentation). What a grand opening that was on Mardi Gras 2020! I don't think I've seen that amount of people out in Rockledge or Fox Chase ever! I went at happy hour time (it was opened at 7am on opening day and had a steady stream of people I am told) and there were probably 200 people there. So unfortunately, we were not able to get a table, but we did find some space near the bar to grab some drinks. Beers were decently priced. Bartenders and waiters were on point for grand opening day. So Malt House Rockledge is by the same owners of Gaul & Co. Malthouse in Port Richmond. Known for their kielbasa cheesesteaks (Wit or Witoutski), kielbasa eggrolls and wings. Though they had a limited menu on grand opening day, I did get to try the kielbasa eggrolls and mozzarella sticks. I had never tasted kielbasa eggrolls before and they did it right. I loved the white american cheese dipping sauce. Congrats on the new opening! It's a great addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items! read more

Let me start off with saying that unlike a lot of the other reviews, I found the service here to be great. I started out with the wings with the Firehouse sauce. No complains there. I also had the Wit Or Witowski and my guest had the burger. Both were pretty good. Now the reason for four stars... I personally think it's a little pricy here for what you get. Popped in today for a late lunch with my husband. We have been to the Port Richmond location, but wanted to check out the Rockledge spot, since we had recently won a gift certificate. We started off with drinks. I had the spicy pineapple margarita which was delicious and had just the right amount of heat. My husband had the "GTL" which is their draft version of Twisted Tea Light. It was better than the real thing! Tasted like fresh, homemade iced tea with very little sweetness. I ended up having 2 more for myself! For appetizers, we split the crab nugs. 5 deep-fried little balls of crab cake heaven arrived on a bed of arugula with a garlic aioli dipping sauce. I had the burger and fries, which was cooked perfectly. My husband went with the famous wit-or-witowski sandwich and claimed it was better here than the OG! Our bartender/server was extremely friendly and attentive. We never had to flag her down to ask for anything. There was also live music playing which was fun! I tried malt house again because I really do want to enjoy it. It didn't go well. They provided a lovely beer list with so many great options, none of which they had. Ever beer we asked for was out. Maybe they were in the process of updating or something but if you have none of the fun beers on the list why give it out? We just got cheese fries because it was just a snacky get together. I now understand why the wit or witowski I got on fries last time was so painfully salty-because the French fries themselves were INSANELY over salted. I'm talking chug water while you rub the salt off, salted. We then got the bill, neither of us finished our fries (because again, pain) and somehow had gotten charged for 4 orders. I get that happens but the strangest part was that the server was like that's weird they didn't give me 4...and we made it clear we didn't order 4, but she insisted that the kitchen should've given her 4? The food is as amazing as the original which I frequent. I live that it's bigger, multiple bars and lots of outdoor seating. We had the shepherds pie and wings. And of course fries with the kielbasa and cheese. Wings and the buffalo sauce is the perfect blend of hot but eatable. They were out of the first thing we ordered and charged us for it anyways. Once we got our food, we were basically ignored. We had to ask for refills ( like I had to walk to the bar and ask) was hen we had to ask for our bill. Then the bill was wrong. The food was good. The Wit or Witowski was pretty close to the original in Port Richmond, but there were a lot of issues. However, I'm not going to fault them because they've only been open for about a week. The parking lot was packed on a Wednesday night. We had to park on the next block over in a residential neighborhood, though we were seated immediately. There was no website or menu for this location on the original location's website, so I came with expectations that it would be the same menu considering another reviewer mentioned two items from the original location (Kielbasa Egg Rolls and Fried Mozzarella). I was quickly let down when I saw the menu. It was a lot smaller than the original location's menu despite being a larger location, and it contained items from your average corner bar: wings, a salad or two, and a burger. The only thing that makes this the Gaul & Co Malt House is their staple Wit or Witowski. It's basically Great Value Gail & Co. Though the Great Value menu wasn't the only issue. They appeared to be very unorganized. Our four menus consisted of two different drink menus. I'm not talking about one beer kicking and being different. I mean every single beer. There were no cocktails on the menu because you can ask for whatever, and they'll make it, so one person asked if they could make The Polish Mule, one of the cocktails from the original location. Our waitress had no idea what we were talking about. You'd think if they're calling it the Malt House, and the sign says Gaul & Co in the original design, they'd be slightly familiar with the original menu. After asking the bartender, they were able to make it, but this is your average Philly bar with one Polish item on the menu. Maybe my expectations were too high, so I'm only rating it for the food. The Wit or Witowski, fries, and spicy pickles were pretty close to the original, but the next time I'm craving a Kielbasa cheesesteak, I'll just go to the original. read more

The wings are always a go to! I've had hot, garlic parm and the honey Siracha (pictured) and they've all been amazing. The blue cheese is the real show stopper. I've been to Malthouse many times recently and I always had a positive experience for happy hours.. until tonight. My wallet was stolen from my bag at the table...the entire thing.. cards, cash, everything. I called like 7 of 8 times over and over, and finally someone answered, and I was put on hold, then was disconnected. When I called back. I was told to call back tomorrow morning, and maybe someone could help me then. So disappointed.. not only in the garbage people that frequent this establishment, but those in charge, that have no interest in helping someone that was literally robbed in their bar tonight.
