I debated whether to leave this review because my visit was several months ago, but after recently having a basic manicure at another salon, I realized just how poor my experience here actually was. My appointment at The Hills Nails felt incredibly rushed from start to finish... it couldn't have been more than 10 minutes. The technician barely acknowledged or spoke to me, there was little to no cuticle care, and my nails weren't shaped with much attention to detail. The polish was applied over my cuticles (as shown in the photos), and within just a few days it started peeling. What bothered me most was that when I politely mentioned my concerns to the owner, I was told, "Well, you got a basic manicure." To me, a basic manicure shouldn't mean rushed or sloppy. Basic doesn't mean there shouldn't be care, precision, or pride in the work. To make matters worse, after paying around $40 for the service, I was asked, "No tip?" in front of other customers. That was embarrassing and left an even worse impression. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect a manicure to be done with care and professionalism, regardless of the service level. The past two times I had acrylic and/or dip manicure services here, I've walked away with cuts on my cuticles and throbbing fingers. 1/15/2025: A few weeks ago, I messaged Phan D., The Hills Nail Salon's Concierge wishing scheduling a manicure and pedicure--specifically, desiring removing all hang nails from my hands and feet. Moreover, I arrived fifteen-minutes early due to driving from up the "Hill." Obviously, I took some photos before entering in order, writing my YELP! Review. Anyway, the Male Specialty Pedicurist began performing a complete pedicure treatment: I chose the $65.00 Volcano Pedicure Spa because it's been almost a year since, I last scheduled a professional nail salon appointment, i.e., I've been quite ill in 2024 contracting COVID TWICE! In addition, another Male Specialty Manicurist began removing all the hang nails from my hands which was a welcomed relief. The total cost was $90.00, i.e., $65.00 Volcano Pedicure Spa and the $25.00 specialty hang nail removal plus, I paid an additional $15.00 tip equaling, $105.00 total which the total service rendered was exceptional. Nice and clean inside. Warmly greeted. Lee did a great job on my manicure. I had very long nails and wanted them shorter. Lee gave my nails a very nice shape and also a wonderful hand massage. There were peaceful cooking videos playing on the tv featuring freshly picked ingredients. It was such a relaxing experience overall. I will return here for my next manicure. I've been getting gel for years and this has never happened, not once. My nails looked beautiful the first day but the main problem is the fact that she over filed and over buffed them, she kept filing over and over. I called for an appointment and they were able to take me within 30 minutes. First time there. Ambiance was lacking. Cells phones ringing and beeping at high volume all around me. I got a basic manicure and gel pedicure. The experience was ok, but nothing exceptional. The nail polish on my fingernails barely made it 36 hours before it started to chip. It's not like I was doing anything crazy to my hands/nails within those 36 hours. Makes me wonder if they use crappy polish so that next time I'll spend the extra $15 on a gel manicure they tried to push on me? There probably won't be a "next time" for me at The Hills. There are plenty of other nail salons around here, and I'm willing to spread my money around until I find a keeper. read more

The hills are alive with the sound of ... nails being done, and feet being taken care of. I drove all the way to The Hills Nails in El Dorado Hills, because nail salons in Sacramento were completely closed at the time, and I was grateful to find an open salon. I am really picky about my nails, so when I made my appointment, I was very clear with the man on the other side of the phone that I only wanted one of their top nail technicians. He assured me that I would be in good hands. They absolutely practice all forms of social distancing, wearing facemasks, and maintaining distance for their customers. They have plexiglass walls between the technicians and the customers, and they all wear masks behind the plexiglass. My technician was friendly enough, and even offered me a sealed bottle of water while she did my nails. She was a lot slower than what I am accustomed to, and I was hopeful that meant that she was being as picky as I am about my nails. She wasn't. In fact, her technique was absolutely deplorable. I asked if she was going to thin out the thick nails that she had created. I truly was shocked that she was going to leave my nails as is. I explained that my nails were too thick, and the manager came over when he heard the conversation, and said that's how they do nails there. I found that hard to believe, because the woman sitting two seats down from me, did not have thicker nails. The technician eventually thinned them out, and then polished them. I have been polishing my nails in one form or another, since I was a little girl. Back then, I always managed to get polish around my nail bed and on my fingers. That's not unusual for seven year old. It is unusual for a nail technician to polish exactly the same way, and not feel compelled to clean my fingers and nail beds when she was done. I felt like I had dipped my finger nails in a can of paint, and was letting them air dry. I understand that desperate times call for desperate measures, this is just not a place that I would travel to, to have my nails done again. When I went to pay my bill with the manager, the price that he quoted me on the phone was lower than the price that he was charging me. I reminded him of what he told me on the phone, he said that he had been mistaken. I'm perplexed how he would be mistaken because nail salons like most businesses, have set prices for their services. I paid my bill, and yes, I even left a tip for my nail technician. The two stars are for cleanliness, friendliness, and protocol set in place for social distancing during these uncertain times. read more

This is the first time I have ever been to The Hills Nails. I had called earlier in the day to request an appointment for a short acrylic nail full set, which was made for 2:30 pm. I arrived at the given time and the service began at around 2:50. I understand that you can be busy sometimes, but schedule later so we're both not inconvenienced! After beginning the service, the nail tech did not cut my nail before wanting to place the acrylic on, which I had to request that he did so. He also snagged my skin with the nail grinder about 5-10 times. Once the service was finished, I asked how much I owed him for the short acrylic set that had one design on the ring fingers, and was told $100.00. Which was beyond ridiculous considering the time I had to wait for the appointment to begin, the length of the nail, the design that had not turned out like the pictures at all, and just the overall quality of the nail. Someone had then thrown in that he was joking although he then had to take some time after inspecting the nails to decide that I owed him $65 instead. I love this place for my powder dip manicures and gel pedicures! Phan will do what it takes to make you happy. He's honest about time if they can't fit you in because they're busy, which I appreciate so I'm not waiting around. Loan does the best powder dip work I've ever had, and I've tried a lot of different places, let me tell you! I love that you actually get a full manicure along with the powder dip service too. I also love how I can bring her pictures of designs and she'll add them (for an extra charge) or, better yet, I ask her to do something fun on my accent nails, and she does beautiful designs. I found The Hills during COVID times when my usually places were closed down in my county. Now that places are back open, I'm still sticking with The Hills because they're awesome enough for me to drive a couple exits further! read more

I've been here twice in the last two months. The first time was okay, except for one of the employees leaving the volume on on her phone and getting incessant Ring app notifications (like every couple minutes), and my nail tech putting sparkles on the wrong nail without even asking which nail I wanted it on. She did take it off and redo that nail though, so no biggie. Oh, and pressuring me to pay through Venmo. This time, the person doing my nails seemed super bothered by me wanting my nails done. She was very rough and jerked my hands/arms around. She made my nails completely different lengths and thicknesses. She's even cut me with the Dremel twice. I'm more mad at the fact that she didn't even say anything and just ignored it, so I didn't find out until about 10 minutes later. She didn't even apologize! I got home, walked through my front door and immediately put on Neosporin because she didn't offer anything to clean it, including just washing my hands. She just continued to Dremel around my cut and get more acrylic dust in it (which at that point I didn't know was a cut, I thought it just hurt). Unfortunately I had to lower my rating after a bad experience recently. I would caution anyone getting their nails done by a tech that is not one of the owners. Especially when they are not at the salon, the staff seems to go awry and their work is sloppy. I came in for full set of pink white ombré and pedicure. The pedicure was ok, not my usual great experience. The bigger issue were the ombré nails. I asked for them to be shaped coffin and short. The tech began and when she realized the pink powder was too light. She tried a different powder. When that didn't work, she used dip. The problem is you could see the prior work under which left a half moon shape at the base of my nail. Her attempt to fix this with dip made them too thick almost bubble shaped and huge. And she did not shape the coffin but I was charged $5 extra anyway. So $45 for full set, +$5 for ombré which was sloppy and poorly done, and +$5 for coffin shape which they were not. $55 total and walked away having to go to a different salons to get them reshaped less than a week later for $15. Taking off the thick nails has been so painful I needed to take pain meds just to get through it. My nail beds are damaged. I probably won't be back unless I can be guaranteed an appt with an owner. I wish their techs didn't go rogue whenever they are left alone. I really love this place but refuse to spend this kind of money for subpar work that I end up having to get fixed later. read more

I am not normally one to write a negative review as I have worked in countless retail/food service jobs. That being said, I received some of the worst service at this salon today after having been there on multiple other occasions with no issue. I called this morning around 9:30am to confirm that they were open and to check availability for 3 pedicures at 1:30pm. I was told that I could come in at 2pm for the 3 pedicures and asked my name. Fast forward to about 1:50, my aunt and I go to check in only to be told that there is "no way he took 3 appointments for 2pm, no way." Just to be sure, I go outside and double check the phone calls to match the number with what is on the window, which it did. After a few minutes, the owner comes outside to show me the appointment book (which I did not ask for, nor did I make a scene while checking myself) to make sure I saw that he did not write down my appointments. I politely explained that although I see they are not there, I still spoke to someone who told me there would be no problem. He goes inside to seemingly set up some chairs for us only to tell us to come back in an hour. Although I was upset, I kindly responded that it was okay and we would just take our business elsewhere. The owner then proceeded to follow me towards the stairs to tell me in quite a rude manner that "yeah he's SURE he didn't book my appointments. There was no way!!" I have been going to the same nail salon for years. I had been growing frustrated for a year (not sure why I stayed as long as I did) and finally decided to try a new place. The reviews on Yelp were strong for The Hills and they are a mile from my house so I figured it was worth the try. I have found a place I continuously want to return too. First I was greeted immediately when entering and yes they're taking temperatures!! I was asked if I needed anything to drink and sat immediately at my appointment time. Kim did my nails and was phenomenal.
