I was in the mode for authentic German food yesterday 2/20. Let me start by saying the server was awesome handling the entire busy restaurant on her own. Unfortunately our server was the only thing positive I can say. This is not authentic German food by any stretch. I wanted the chicken schnitzel with the mushroom sauce only to be informed they were out of chicken, really at 5:00pm on a Sunday. So I opted for the meatballs with mushroom sauce. The meatballs were marginally acceptable on par with Dennys. I also ordered the potato pancakes which were absolutely awful. They were hashbrowns formed into a pancake with some condiments thrown in (not German at all). My wife had the pork cordon blu and she said it was not thin like it's supposed to be and was tuff and dry. I also tried a piece of it as well and I concurred with her. I have been to many authentic German restaurants and German friends home for dinner and I can say with certainty this is not good German cooking. This place might be OK for a hamburger, but it is definitely not a place to go for German food. I would never step foot in this place again. read more

Absolute worst experience I can honestly say! I usually don't leave negative reviews but this one needs to be posted so you have an informed opinion. First let me say we have been here many times over the years and always loved this place. Made reservations for Valentine's Day with out of town guests and what a train wreck. First we showed up 5 minutes early and was told to seat our selves outside. Waited 20 minutes and no one waited on us I went to the bar to order drinks and they told me our server will get them. Suddenly our server came and took our order for drinks. 15 minutes went by and a couple who came in after us got served their order. After 10 more minutes our waitress came out to take our food order and said sorry we are having a bad night. Took our order and then we waited 20 more minutes and the food came out cold and not what we ordered. We ate a few bites and decided to leave. Asked for the check and waited 10 minutes and went to the front desk to just pay. Paid for the meals and left a tip but asked to speak to the manager. Was told no one was there and asked for their cell number. They gave me a number to a different person who said he wasn't the manager. Called the restaurant back and the gave me a different number which is disconnected. Save yourself aggravation and go to some of the good restaurants in the area. This place is out of business and they don't realize it. Sad that this place has self destructed. read more

The outdoor seating has a lot of smokers around the bar. Ordered the veal Schnitzel, part of it was well done and part was red inside. It was absolutely tasteless. I ordered the Weisswurst which the waitress said was served over sauerkraut, it was served in a bowl with hot water and a soft pretzel. Zero flavor. The waitress had no clue about the menu. Very disappointed with the cleanliness and flavor of food. 2 beers and 1 wine for $63 before tip seemed high for a lunch. The cons are there is NO safe parking besides the 5 spots in front, the female bartender is slow and ignored me for 10 mins as I waited at the bar to order drinks, but any guy walking up never waited... The food is ok, I wouldn't go there for a meal. The fish was greasy and lacked flavor. The pretzel and beer cheese was pretty good besides the beer cheese tasting watered down, tried a few other things that I have already forgotten what they were tbh. Well, we were back in Jensen Beach for vacation and made The Hoffman one of our dinner choices as we enjoyed it so much last time. We were not disappointed. The hubs and son got a brat and schnitzel respectively, and I stuck with the Black and Blue burger. This place, though German fare, easily has the best burgers ever, and my boys raved about their meals. Anytime we are anywhere near Jensen Beach, this place will be a must to visit. We used to go to the Hoffman often.. until today. Worst service my wife and I have ever received. The server finally came to our table after Atleast 15 minutes. Didn't even smile and was not friendly. Brought our food hour and a half later. Never checked on us. We had to go to the bar three times- one time for our menus, second time for our beers and the third time for our to-go boxes. Severely disappointed in what used to be our favorite place. I love the Hoffman, it's been my go to place to take guests for the past 3 years that I've lived in Stuart. I would have given 5 stars but the last time that I went, the quality seemed to have slipped some. So, I'm basing this review on all the wonderful times before that, hoping it was a one time thing. I actually visited here for the first time with my mom who was stationed in Germany and she said that the schnitzel and gravy was as good as over there. I haven't been to German, but I agree that it was great. The schnitzel was tender, fried to perfection, great taste, and along with the mushroom gravy...almost perfect. I have also had their fish and chips, and in the past, the size of the fish was massive, like the size of the plate, fried golden brown, and then served with delicious fries. The last time I went, the size was smaller and the fries weren't fresh, so again, I hope that was a one time thing. The thing that sets The Hoffman over the top, though is the view. It's right on the river with a beautiful outside sitting area along with a bar. I don't drink so I haven't sat at the bar, but from what I can tell, it seems good. The service has almost always been wonderful, very friendly and inviting, and checking on us regularly, except for the last time. Great spot for the view and food normally is great. read more

The atmosphere brought us here, the food will keep us coming back. While there are a few tables inside, most of the seating at the hoffman is outside by the water and there are plenty of tables in the shade. Their menu is separated into 2 sides, an American side with popular american apetizers, main dishes like burgers, and seafood etc and chocolate cake for desert. The German side of the menue has popular German appetizers, main dishes and desserts. Make sure you read both sides. We ordered mainly from the German side. We started with a large pretzel and beer cheese which was shared between 4 people. The beer cheese had a strong beer taste but the pretzel was amazing. I would come back just for that pretzel. For dinner I had Jaeger schnitzel chicken (thin breaded boneless chicken with a mushroom cream sauce). It was cooked perfect, it was huge, it was yummy. It came with a lemon to squeeze on top and the sauce came on the side. The sauce had a lot of mushrooms in it and the lemon adds a great kick. The sides I orders with it were german potato salad and spaetzel. The potato salad was mashed and served cold, it wasn't bad but I prefer hot potato salad. The spaetzel (German dumplings/ pasta) was a little plain, like buttered pasta but I enjoyed it. Overall it was an enjoyable meal. For dessert the My only complaint was the really slow service. Was there yesterday for a family lunch. Great vibe is seating outside. That's is. They ran out of the one German beer they had. Really - You had one job. While ordering, I was told they were out of the Sauerbraten and Weiss Worst. So we order. Everyone dish arrives except mine. 8 minutes later guess what arrives the Weiss Worst platter. SO they have no idea what is what. The entire platter was cold. So disappointed. Then I realized only one waitress was working the outside and covered deck area. Curious, I went inside for a look, 12 empty tables and 2 other standing around. New MGT is needed and is off my list until then. read more

Having lived in Port Saint Lucie for over a year I had never noticed this restaurant tucked away on NE Indian River Dr. With some buddy's from college in town we thought we would give it a shot. We went in looking to judge the place on a few simple points being food, service, and atmosphere. Right from the jump we loved the vibe of the tiki umbrellas along the water. We initially sat under one of the umbrellas but upon further inspection we decided the state of the table wouldn't be ideal to facilitate a large meal. The bar was long and extended along the water which was pleasing to see. The inside felt a little run down but I would assume most people sit outside. Overall we decided to give the atmosphere a 6/10. The location by the water really boosted this score for us but the the decor of the restaurant just wasn't doing it. After deciding to move closer to the bar our server was quick to get us menus and our initial drinks. By all means or server was nothing but sweet and polite but other than those initial drinks we did find ourselves trying to flag her down quite a bit. Initially excited about the special calamari we were not stoked to see a regular calamari come out. Our server was quick to notice but we were fine with just the regular. About 10 mins later she brought out the one we initially ordered, so since this cancels out, we decided to exclude this predicament from or overall score. That being said we decided to give the service 3/10. At first we discussed a higher score but taking a step back and thinking about our experience we neglected the fact that my meal came out about 10 mins after every one else's. Without much explanation and an even longer wait for a second round of beers we decided the settle on a score of 3/10 for service. Moving onto to the food we were nothing but pleased. We went with 3 different appetizers and we were very happy with our choices. What stood out was the Mac and cheese balls. With a jalapeño Mac and cheese, it was a nice twist to an all time favorite of mine. With a nice base of delicious appetizers followed by some German beer we were excited to move onto our entrees. Besides the wait for my meal, everything was quite delicious from the mahi fish n chips to the jäger schnitzel. Overall we decided 8/10 would be a sufficient score. The food was solid and it was as simple as that. Wrapping everything up I would say that we were satisfied with everything. Although the atmosphere didn't give off that German vibe the food without a doubt did. Adding the scores from each category together and dividing by 2, to stay in line with yelps 5 star layout, we came to a overall score of 2.8/5. Today was our anniversary and my husband wanted German takeout from Hoffman's. We had previously eaten there before COVID and were very happy with our meals, this time not so much . My husband wanted Weiss Wurst which was available, I wanted the pork loin medallions and was told they no longer had them ( but still on online menu), The girl suggested The Gulasch and the Cook chimed in that they didn't have any. Went to The Hoffman today, usually it is a great time. Today - not so much. We got there sat at a table for 15 minutes, no one came over to greet us or take an order. Had to go up to the bar to order drinks, a server brought the drinks and told us that the bar tender would be helping us. We sat for another half hour with no one coming to check on us, while there was a server checking on other tables, then again had to go up to the bar to ask for a menu. Waited for another 10 minutes still with no service. Very disappointing trip to Jensen today. read more

I give my meal 5 stars. My husband ordered the Bratwurst which came with roasted potatoes and sauerkraut. I found the Bratwurst a bit dry and had a strange "chemical" taste. However, he gave it a 5. The only minus was the patron, seated behind behind us, who brought their dog which sat on a stool at the bar. This place used to be a great spot for a beer. Service here has gone down to a ridiculous low. Servers walk by don't even acknowledge you even if you make eye contact. Even just getting a beer takes 10 min or more. I have been in with groups of 4 people and as a group we left. Twice before we could even get a beer after a 15 min wait. Each time there was not a lot of people and three servers on. They just did not want to serve people. I rated it 3 stars only because we didn't get to eat during our only visit. This review is only for a heads-up to potential customers and as constructive criticism for the owners. We had a party of seven and had made reservations well in advance of our visit. When we arrived, we were told our reservations weren't going to be honored. They explained that because of a recent positive review in the local newspaper, they were overwhelmed with business. They apologized half-heartedly and said there was nothing they could do. We expected that since they took the reservation in the first place, they would have honored that first, then seat walk-ins after us. Seems like a simple solution and it would have gone a long way to promote good PR and customer satisfaction. The heads-up is for potential customers to expect a long wait to be seated as well as be prepared for dishes that might not be as good as normal due to how rushed and chaotic the kitchen and staff appeared that night. We will go back and give them another chance, but we'll wait until business settles down and they work out the kinks. read more

I was only going to eat Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland and take Germany Home (see how the Schnitzel came in four varying sized pieces?) but I just had to invade Germany and didn't stop even when I accidentally bit my tongue, hard. The staff at The Hoffmann were very accommodating and managed to avoid putting any mushrooms in the mushroom gravy (at my request). The GPS (German Potato Salad) was cooked tender and simply prepared. A perfect foil for the fried food. I will be coming back for more Jäger Schnitzel! The pork was super tender and the breading light and crunchy. Not into pork? They have a chicken version too. Even after stuffing myself I still have enough leftovers for a full size sandwich. The only downside is the River at low tide is a little bit odiferous. You may want to check the tide schedule or sit inside, but the view is beautiful, the breeze constant, and there is TONS of outdoor seating. read more
