My god, this place might be my favorite sandwich shop in the country. I got the three little pigs and the barnyard. I can't tell you how delicious they were, I only make it to grand junction once a year for work, but will be looking for more reasons to come here just for these sandwiches. I'm a real "foodie" having been employed for my entire life in the food service business (restaurant management .. foodservice sales .. catering .. cook-bartender-waiter) .. so I was pretty much like a "kid in a candy store" (couldn't help myself) .. I was amazed by the extensive variety of foodstuffs .. beer & wine .. various candies .. prepared foods .. I literally spent close to 2 hours wandering the aisles .. perusing the shelves .. talking with multiple guests and staff .. We stopped at this sweet deli because one of the owners is from our home town. We took a pic with her and sent it to her mom. I had the planted fowl sandwich which was so good. I have eaten here many times in the past 2+ years about 10+ times. I have ordered every Hot sandwich on the menu. The Hog, The Hen and the Gobbler being my favorites. I haven't tried their cold sandwiches as I just don't order sub's/cold sandwiches unless I'm in the north east. Go figure.... I probably should try theirs as their Hot ones are Great. The place is more of specialty beer and deli joint with no seating available. Don't let that discourage you as GJ has a beautiful artsy downtown with ample seating to be found. Descriptive sandwiches on the menu, but ours was not as expected. Very little meat, lots of sweet goo and canned crispy onions, 'crunchy' roll was hot and chewy, chips were nearing rancid, very stale. Expensive for what you get. First time in here today, and this place is our new favorite downtown store. The girls working, one at the front counter and one behind the deli counter, were very helpful... Gave us some samples and helped us pick out some amazing unique cheeses, salamis, horseradish pretzels, tangerine Chile olives, crackers, wine and great hot sauces. I have a gluten and soy allergy and they worked around it deftly and created a custom tuna salad that was worthy of putting on the menu. My daughter had an egg salad on a crusty roll and my husband had the hog sandwich. Both gave it big thumbs up. Everything on the menu, including the Frito Pie, is locally sourced. Also being a deli store, there are a number of specialty meats and cheeses in the case that look delicious and are well priced. The owner must have read my mind when he saw me because the first thing he asked me was if I'd like to try some salami he'd just sliced up. Yes, please!!! About 10 minutes later and imbued with info about the difference between salami, prosciutto and suppressants, I left with a 1/2 lb of cured meat goodies. Had I not been en route to pick up food I'd already ordered, my dinner would have come from The Hog and The Hen. I can't believe I've never walked in here before!! I wanted to buy everything and I'm sad I don't live right down the street. I'd be in here many times a week. Great variety of cute and unique groceries and the sandwiches were nearly impossible to choose from. I had the guy who made it choose for me and he went with the truffle shuffle which I wouldn't have ever picked, but it was DELISH. My little sister came here to buy some candy for a friend. It was overpriced but honestly the service she received was ridiculous. When she questioned the price, because she initially didn't know prices were by the quarter pound, (which is honestly not common) the worker was rude and basically told her she was dumb.
