This is probably one of my favourite Poké spots in Vancouver. I've been quite a few times and it's always been consistent thus far. I think it's super reasonably priced (they don't charge extra for seaweed salad or crab, which a lot of places do), and the medium bowl always fills me up even though my stomach is a bottomless pit. Every time I've been the service has been great as well. I love that they offer half-brown rice, half-mixed greens; it's my go-to base (because let's be honest subbing white rice for brown and adding green things makes us feel better afterwards). I usually get salmon. As for sauces this last time I got the Sweet Shoyu, the Yuzu Ponzu, and the Wasabi Basil Aioli drizzled on top and the flavours were *chef's kiss* Highly recommend if you're in the search of a good poke spot! Love this poke place! So far, it is the best place for poke (including Toronto) in my opinion. Plenty of stools as seats along the wall. Spacious and bright. The service is also good I got a regular ono bowl and that came with 2 scoops of protein (you can mix and match). My base was half brown rice, half veggies and the veggies were so fresh - I didn't see any black mark or wilted ones. The brown rice was filling and it balanced out the spicy ailoi of the fish. Big and plenty chunks of fish (tuna and salmon in this case) - again, very fresh! I think the added pickled ginger made the whole poke bowl - a hint of sweetness and tasted like I was eating sushi also! Each bowl gets complimentary scoops of crab meat and seaweed salad! The crab meat was excellent - probably used real crabs because it's better than all the other "crab meat" from poke places that I had. As well, it didn't have that processed taste or bright orange/pink colour. Will definitely revisit! read more

I recently got the VPL Inspiration pass so my friends and I went to the Museum of Vancouver and the Space Center a few days ago. After all of our fun we were famished and decided to grab something around the West 4th Kits area. Had my Entertainment book on me so we went to Hoke Poke, our first time, and created our own bowls - 1 regular size bowl (2 scoops of protein for $12.95) and 2 large bowls (3 scoops of protein for $14.95) and was able to use the coupon of $10 off a $40 purchase. I had the large custom bowl with a mix of greens and brown rice as a base, salmon with spicy tuna and tiny scallops as my protein, and pretty much all the vegetable fixings available. The staff there were helpful and suggested great sauce pairings with my protein and vegetable choices, which I greatly appreciated. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. As I had a dinner to go to that night I wasn't able to finish my large bowl. What I really enjoy about Hoke Poke was the friendly service, the great tasting complimentary hojicha tea, quality and freshness of the food, and portion size. Props to Hoke Poke for their extensive compost and recycling program so that every item they provide (utensils and bowl) are either compostable or recyclable. The large wall at Hoke Poke is also decorated by repurposed chopsticks, which helps bring awareness of what one time used chopsticks can possibly be used again for. Nothing in Vancouver beats REAL poke in Hawaii but Hoke Poke is one of the best poke spots I've tried in the city. Bonus points that there are coupons available for this place as I used to frequent Pokerrito regularly but they kept changing their promotion and loyalty programs in a short period of time, which was really annoying and conveyed that they didn't care about rewarding their loyal customers. read more

Create your own poke bowls are probably my favourite thing. I loved that they have sockeye salmon for no extra charge and the large bowl for about 15$ was really tasty! Each bowl comes with a scoop of crab meat and seaweed salad as well as three scoops of protein. I got the sockeye, atlantic salmon and the spicy tuna. There aren't as many toppings as the other places around town so it may not seem like as good of a deal but the food was really good. It tasted simpler and more authentic than some other places. I really liked the flavour of the sweet shoyu and the fish was all so fresh! Overall, although pricey, this fed two people plus i love poke and it was a great meal! read more

My wife and I had lunch here last week and we were both very impressed. The proteins were very fresh and pretty generous servings. Staff were helpful building our bowls as we were newbies to restaurant poke. I had a large bowl with salad as a base with the house sauce. Delicious and surprisingly filling! Prices are fair for the high quality of the food. It's also great to see the owner's commitment to the environment by the use of compostable materials, low impact wooden utensils etc. We will definitely be back. read more

Decided to finally try this place after walking by it so many times. It is a bit saucy than the other places so it takes away from the flavours. Next time, I'll ask for less sauce. For the base, you can choose rice, brown rice, salad or half & half. They have 2 sizes: regular and large. I chose large as I was hungry and chose brown rice. I should have gotten half & half as there was a lot of rice. They do give a big portion of the meat which I chose #salmon. Came here a few times. It gets busy at noon. The poke bowls are good. We try to go before noon to beat the rush. The portions are inconsistent. The ladies are more generous and the portions are good. The guy who works there is very chintzy and the bowl ends up being much smaller. I usually still feel hungry after eating my bowl when the guy makes it. Fresh sushi and friendly service. 12.95$ for regular and 14.95 for a large bowl. They also have preset bowls with toppings and sauce if you can't decide but I created my own. Excellent location (a short walk from work) and delicious healthy, fresh selection of ingredients. Love that there are "premade" flavour bowls, as well as customizable bowls. Limited seating (so plan accordingly), and although I loved my chef bowl with sockeye and scallops it was also on the saltier side (after having removing some of the excess sweet soya and ponzu sauce that pooled at the side of the bowl when I tilted it). Next time I'll ask for 1/2 portions of chef sauce or get extra rice (asked for brown rice and greens). Really love this place so far and want to return!! read more

Usually I try to avoid the whole poke phase that Vancouver seems to be currently riding on but I decided to walk down here one day on my lunch break from work. I've tried a few poke places in Vancouver, however this one seems to be my favourite, yay! The staff members were friendly, and their service was really quick and efficient. The quality of the fish tasted fresh, and their portions are quite big. The only thing that I don't like about this place is that their menu is a bit pricey, though poke is always pricey. For $12.95 you can get a regular bowl, or for $14.95, get a large sized bowl. My first time here, I chose the large size because hey, it's only $2 more so why not? I created my own bowl with spicy tuna, sriracha aioli, basically all of the toppings and guacamole over a bed of white rice. I added the atlantic salmon as an add-on for $2.00 which you can do. All bowls get a complimentary scoop of seaweed salad and crab meat, so that was a plus. The total came up to over $17 which is really pricey, but I'd say it was worth it. It was sooo good, and the portion was massive and really filling. I ended up only having half of it for lunch, and the rest I finished it for dinner later on that day. The interior of the restaurant is tiny but oddly spacious, but cute in it's own way. The lighting here makes for good photos. Its a nice place to come here for a quick lunch or dinner with your friend. I noticed that they mix your sauce with your toppings before they pour it in over the rice, which is nice. Sometimes poke bowls can get so full that its hard to be able to eat every bite with the sauce. I ended up coming back a week later after work because I couldn't get my mind off it this place and had to have another fix.. hehe. Will be coming back for sure with a friend. read more

I judge harshly, as poke is a way of life in Hawaii and I've had many many bowls in my days - we even grab it from the grocery store in Hawaii, but alas- I live in Washington now (frequent visitor to Vancouver) and a good poke bowl is hard to find. Hoke Poke hit all the right spots for me! I polished off my bowl with a huge smile on my face and I will be back every time I visit Kitz! Love the chopstick art on the walls, the quick line, the adorable sign, the abundance of seating, free water, and the amazing bowls! You can become the master of your own poke bowls in this aesthetic poke spot - the price can add up quickly on you but it will be SO worth it! I hit up hoke poke with my partner on a hunger rush and our taste buds were delighted with how fresh everything was! The service was great and they were helpful in explaining the different seasonings they we weren't familiar with. I went with the ahi tuna poke bowl and brown rice - added my own toppings and paired it with the yuzu ponzu dressing - DELISH! I have not gone to many poke shops in Vancouver since the trend really took off but for being an avid sushi eater and lover of ahi tuna, I was very happy with the bowl and will for sure go back! 4/5 stars because I wish the serving size was a little larger for the price you pay, but again this could be standard at poke shops - if you know better than I, leave a comment or send me a message! :) read more

Another poke place. I decided to hit up this spot 'cause it was near the theatre where we were planning on watching our movie. The staff members were nice and friendly and didn't require us to list out all the toppings we want in our poke bowl; just the ones we didn't want. I noticed they mix the toppings with your protein as well as the sauce. I got the salmon with half greens and half brown rice. I had the ponzu with the protein mixed and topped with wasabi and sriracha aioli. I got all the toppings except for ginger. I like how organized this place is with the food as in the not stacking everything on top of each other which makes it hard to eat whatever is placed at the bottom. The greens are to the left and rice is to the right, protein on top with the sides (crab salad, seaweed salad etc). For $12, I got brown rice and mixed greens, spicy tuna, cucumber, jalapeños, green onions, crispy onions, cilantro, crab salad with a wasabi dill sauce. It was delicious and fresh! We did online order on April 8 around 3:30pm to pick up at 4pm and my spouse got there 3:55pm to pick it up only to notice a sign on the door that they had closed at 2pm. How are they taking orders when they are not even open. We were super hungry and had a toddler too and had to try to find other food quick after that disappointment. I didn't get the whole Poke thing. So many of these places have been popping up throughout Downtown and over the Cambie Bridge. But when one opened near my work place, I finally decided to pop the C and head over to try my first bowl. I got the salmon and all toppings with the sriracha aoili & sweet heat sauce. Seriously, so many flavours that compliment eachother in my mouth - it was magical. Now I understand the hype and I am completely on the wagon. I love the name of the place, it made me smile. It reminds me of my favorite childhood song. I came here last week for a late lunch early dinner. I am still on the healthy kick and wanted something filling and reasonable on my eating plan. I was able to get a seat since I was there early. I'm still new to the whole Poke thing, therefore, this review is based on the sole experience rather than comparative and or knowledge. I like the "create your own" method which makes things EASIER when it comes to knowing exactly what you're consuming. I recommend the larger size for $1.50 more. It is very expensive compared to the two other places that I've been to in the Broadway area, however, for a healthy lunch I made a financial compromise. The meat portions aren't very much compared to other places, however, the quality was up there in terms of taste. The service was super super nice and warm. Hubby and I did the Build Your Own to which I got three scoops of salmon, a small scoop of tofu amongst an assortment of green onions, masago, sweet onions, spices, etc. over salad greens. They will charge you for extra scoops of protein so be aware. Your bowl does come with a scoop of crab salad and seaweed salad as a complimentary add-on, so that was good. They do offer guacamole as a side, but no avocado...? Avocado would be good for the future. Also, would love to see this place offer more plant-based bases such as zucchini noodles. We visited here for lunch on Saturday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've had poke at a number places around Vancouver, and Hoke Poke definitely felt like the best quality in terms of ingredients. The final product was a more authentic poke, compared to some of the other poke joints in town that have a big selection of gimmicky toppings like pineapple, cornflakes etc. The restaurant itself was pleasant, and the staff helpful. The best poke in town! I was hooked from the first time I tried them! The fish are very fresh, with the selection of atlantic or sockeye salmon, ahi tuna (cost a little extra), and spicy tuna. For a regular bowl, you can select two types of protein, all of add ons (sweet onion, cucumbers, jalapeño, etc.), your sauce (I like the yuzu ponsu+sweet shoyu+sweet heat), then your base: rice (brown or white), or greens, or half/half. Then your bowl is topped with immitation crab meat salad and seaweed salad. The owners are super nice and friendly. Quick service and guaranteed satisfaction. Come early to avoid long line. The dine-in space is very limited. I also like how they recycle their bowls, cups, and chopsticks after you finished with your meal. This is poké in the heart of Kits located near Burrard Street and West 4th Avenue. Pretty large space with seating at the perimeter. You make your order at the counter in the back and then find stools against the wall. The staff are super friendly, informative, personable and knowledgeable. Very impressed with their attitudes! The poké itself was decent. Very good portion sizes and very healthy choices. Difficulty for me is trying to compare to Hawaiian poké experiences and it is just not to the level. My gal pal and I were walking along 4th hoping to find a poke place. Lo and behold, across the street she eyed Hoke Poke. We quickly made our way over, excited for our find. The restaurant is on the small side with only countertop seating. And much like other poke places here in Vancouver, they offer a pick and choose menu. I went for the bowl. They give a good amount of rice and toppings. All in all pretty good but I was slightly disappointed that they didn't offer pre-marinated poke. Salmon plus dressing doesn't impart enough flavor at least in my opinion. Ummm side note, if you are using chopsticks do not stick them into the rice so they are "standing up"... I'm a huge fan of Poke and have tried almost all the current Poke places in Vancouver. Hoke Poke is of my top two favourite places in the city. What's most important to me is the ingredients have to be fresh, maintaining its integrity, and served at the right temperature. Hoke Poke definitely delivers on all three requirements. I was; however, a little surprised to not see any of the usual sauces you'd find at a Poke place. I ordered the "Sweet Heat" and it turned out very good! Courage to be different and to offer something unique is a plus in my books. All in all, Hoke Poke sets a great standard for Vancouver's new Poke trend to follow... This place was awesome, they are very liberal with the sauces and toppings. The unique part was the Tako/Squid as one of the proteins which I loved cuz of the bouncy texture, kind of like fishballs. Also the spicy tuna was good, they do charge a dollar extra for the ahi tuna tho.
