Yum, this is the second time I went to this restaurant while I was in the Letchworth State Park/Perry area. it's interesting because it's a fancy restaurant in the middle of the country. I ordered an apple cider Martini which was tasty and a salad with apples and nuts and caper berries. We ordered the cheese sticks to start which were made of cheddar cheese and they were really yummy and had an amazing spicy honey drizzle. My niece got a pasta dish which I believe she liked, my sister got the fish fry what she didn't particularly like. The dish I had wanted to order they were out of, which was kind of a bummer. They have plenty of parking and lots of seating as well as a bar. Service was nice. Talking about those fried cheddar cheese sticks is making me crave them! read more

So glad we went. Walked in, were quickly seated, the wait staff was amazing. All the tables were nicely spaced apart for Covid. Everyone was wearing a mask. Our food was delicious. When I stopped by Hole In the Wall Restaurant I became rather interested in their menu item for Sautéed Beef Liver. It sort of appeared to be a cultural concoction in that it had apple, which would be traditional German, but also bacon which would be typical American, but then again a Marsala reduction which would signify Italian. So, over certain objections I ordered it rare and couldn't have been more delighted with it. It came rare as ordered and the pairing between the liver, the caramelized onion, the apple and Marsala reduction couldn't have worked out better. I confess it was a surprise to me to find a restaurant like Hole In the Wall Restaurant in Perry, New York, as it is a town that, face it, has seen better days. But with a menu diversity ranging from Baked Lobster Savannah to regional favorites like Beef on Weck (read Kummelweck) it's most unique in its overall offerings and if they compare to my Beef Liver they're far above what is typical for other area restaurants. read more

This place is really nice and senic. We had the Haddock fish fry, Greek salad, and grilled salmon salad. Everything was very very good! The haddock fish fry was good and the fish was very fresh and baked which is a plus! I highly recommend the grilled salmon sandwich which comes with an avocado and some kind of sweet tomato like spread. It was the most delicious salmon sandwich I've ever had. Amazing place, don't let the name throw you. Stopped in on my sled during a trip to Letchworth. Started with the French onion soup cooked perfect with just the right amount of salt and plenty of cheese. Had the fish fry, on a Sunday no less! This is not your traditional greasy oblong fish. Cooked really well and crispy with delicious moist fish and great tartar sauce, slaw and a baked potato. Service is top notch and food is phenomenal, worth the ride wherever you're from! read more

The name does not match the food. They serve more upscale dishes that are very tasty. They must have been a little short staffed because it took time to get drink refills and our order to be taken. But we were talking with each other that we were ok. They had many unique beers on tap that were local. We started with the calamari appetizer. The Ruben was huge and very tasty. I had a special there a month ago. I never get the specials at restaurants but I'm so glad I did. It was a coffee rubbed flank steak with a chimichurri sauce, sauteed leeks, and citrus rice. I ate EVERY bit of it. When I drove home to NE Ohio, a three hour trip, I debated whether the leftovers had been out too long but the food was so good that I ate the rest of it anyway. Driving back from Niagara Falls after a conference and I was hungry, yelp brought me here! Its a nice and cozy place literally in the middle of no where. The waitress was nice and friendly, she rattled off all the specials from a notepad and told me about the wood fire pizza special which is half off, AWESOME! I was pumped to get some pizza to go and bring home some for my friends to try....but as I order she suddenly drops this magic rule where you cant take half price to go.... like what a joke are you kidding? I even asked what if i order it half price to the table then ask for a to go box? She stated dine in only. Needless to say skipped out on the pizza...shame. I ended up ordering a pan seared tuna instead and the pizza bs pretty much killed my mood to wanna try anything else here. Ate the tuna and left. I dunno maybe Im being petty but thats a pathetic policy. Take this scenario, if a family ordered one pizza and some entrees and didn't touch the pizza then what, you tell them to bad, so sad, gotta pay full price to walk outta here with that?? You should just get rid of the special or state it up front or on the menu listing or the specials menu at the table, I even took a picture, no where does it list dine in only, but whatever Im to exhausted and have 4 more hours of driving not going to tire myself out over 8 dollar pizzas. Oh you're probably wondering about the tuna, it was alright. Cooked unevenly it was sorta how I requested it but I guess well done for most of it is ok...(not really) the saving grace is the fries they were good, sucks I had to order a 29 dollar dish to get decent fries but you live and you learn. Stopped here after a day of hiking at Letchworth. Maybe my expectations were too high from the other reviews. The building was nice, cozy, way bigger than what I expected due to the name. Service was good, waitress was friendly. The food was OK. It wasn't bad, it was great. I have the broiled haddock Cajun style with vegetables and potatoes. My wife had the stuffed chicken. Chicken was small and very underwhelming,especially for a $20 price tag. The haddock was good, nice spice to it, but nothing I'd rush back to get. All and all, HITW is a decent option in place with very, very limited options. read more

We recently ate at Hole in the Wall and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The restaurant is located on a residential street, so if you think you've made a wrong turn keep going as you'll eventually see it. The service was just okay, we did wait for more than 10-15 minutes to have a waitress come by to take our order and that's why I'm giving a 4 rating. I am going to assume they were a bit short staffed and it was busy due to the Letchworth Craft Show that was being held the weekend we were there. However, once we placed our order the waitress brought out complimentary homemade bread served with a delicious tapenade. I ordered wings, which paired well with a craft beer they had on tap, and my bae ordered the fish fry. Both dishes were good. If I am ever back in Perry, NY I will certainly stop by the restaurant again. read more

It was a beautiful day and we decided to take Mom and Dad on a mystery ride. We drove to Silver Lake and tried The Hole in the Wall Restaurant. We got there early ...4:30ish and they seemed to be unprepared for customers. I wanted to sit in the dining room and their response was they would have to set it up...may be 10 minutes. We will wait I said. There were other people sitting in there so I don't know what the problem was. It is a large place and was a bit cool but fine. From the outside you would not suspect a nice place inside. That actually share the building with a laundromat. I think I was most pleased with my entree. The tender flaky Salmon was delicious with an apricot glaze. Salted baked potato was perfect and the best squash I've had since fall harvest. My husband and Dad both had the prime rib. Both were over done according to their specifications but still good. Mom's broiled scallops were a great choice for here. Be warned if trying this place...they are changing the menu. I was disappointed that the Lobster Savannah was no longer served....then take that picture off the wall. Turkey dinner was the special and at 4:30 it was already gone. Good place for Silver Lake visitors that are looking for more than a hot dog but honestly I've had better. read more

Well, that is why we went there... and we were mind blowing by their food, service, specials of the day, soup and of course the Brownie Sunday in a can! We stumbled on this place after a day at Letchworth. We sat at the bar and Deanna was our server. We had two of the $2 ribs. They fell off the bone and were delicious. Followed by the mushroom and feta flatbread. Also delicious. Then pumpkin creme brûlée for dessert. We also had some local beers too. This place is awesome. Service, food and pricing is unbeatable. Glad we found this place after a visit to Letchworth. We called ahead to secure a dinner reservation. Upon arriving the restaurant requires you to sign in with the name and contact information for your party - this was different than other restaurants we have been to this year but we were assured by the hostess that this information was kept confidential. The hostess then took the time to explain the regulations that restaurants and businesses have to follow in New York along with the hardships. During our dinner we noted the seating was properly spaced for Covid regulations and masks were required by all patrons until seated. Masks were also worn by all wait staff and the hostess. Our food was good. We started with the Ancho BBQ ribs - the sauce was slightly different than what we're accustomed to but a "different good" and the ribs were fall off the bone! For entrees we had the brisket mac and cheese (very good) and the London broil. The London broil was superbly cooked but very heavy on the balsamic glaze. Overall we enjoyed our visit and would definitely come back the next time we are in the area. read more

I had seen the reviews and wanted to check this restuarant out for a while now. The plain exterior reminded me of a normal everyday family diner. However when we entered we were pleasantly surprised by the decor. It had a modern upscale feel to it. This made us a little more optimistic about the meal we were about to have. Our waitress was sufficient enough, not great but not awful either. I ordered the French onion soup and the hole burger, my wife ordered the stuffed chicken with a side salad. The presentation was on par for the restuarant, it's didn't wow us but looked appetizing. Unfortunately when we began to eat our meal we were a little disappointed. The burger was just a burger it didn't stand out as menu maker like it's advertised and my French onion had very little crust and was extremely bland. My wives chicken was nothing special either. The filling was tasty but the chicken had no flavor and the white sauce they smother it in was very bland as well. The bill came to just under 50 dollars with tip for two people with no alcohol. Being that I paid dinner prices for a quick lunch I would have liked to have had a little more flavor. If you are pressed for a decent looking sitdown restuarant this will do but if you are flexible there is much better food in the area. read more

So I did not get any photos here because I was with family for my birthday BUT - I can say this was probably the most delightful restaurant I have been to in awhile. We arrived early, and the view to the lake is amazing. Now, you might not be able to see the actual lake from inside, but driving to the restaurant you can and it's just beautiful. Onto the food - O M G. I ordered the scallops (highly recommend) and my 2 sides were sautéed summer vegetables (think zucchini, beans, peppers) and a SEA SALT ENCRUSTED BAKED POTATO. I will rave over this perfect baked potato forever. How they get the skin of the potato so crispy and crushed with sea salt is an ART. The atmosphere is great, very relaxing, nice view & delicious drinks!! Next time I am down in the area I will stop back for sure, even if for just a cocktail! read more

Absolutely awful. Unfortunately, we forgot we visited this restaurant a year prior when we were in the area for the balloon launch at Letchworth. It was terrible the first time, too. There aren't many dining options in the area, so this one came up in our search again. I wished I remembered the first visit, but since we arrived we decided to give it another chance. Regrettably, we ordered the same dinner as the first visit (prime rib) and it was worse this time. During our first visit, another couple returned their prime rib and chose not to have it replaced. I wish I had made the same choice both times, but didn't want to make a fuss and have my dining partner wait. The meat was tough and unbelievably gristly. My date actually had to excuse himself to get rid of a large, unchewable piece and had to use tooth picks afterwards. The meat edge was smeared with extremely salty beef stock that was goopy and like it came out of jar, slathered on as an afterthought rather than to actually season during slow cooking. The au jus was extremely salty as well and, combined with the salty meat, completely inedible. The waitress tried three times to remove from the table the stale bread and flavorless tapenade which, by the end we were only eating to clear the salt from our mouths. The waitress was clearly annoyed by my asking her to leave the bread the third time and scowled at me when she subsequently walked past. By then her pleasant but unpolished demeanor soured, and she left us sitting for an extended period after it was clear we were finished. She then just dropped off the check without a word, no thank you, and walked away. By the end, if anyone was around to ask how it was, we were very ready to let them know. Typically we do not complain and are pretty flexible, but this was comment worthy. The hostess who was barely pleasant when we arrived, was nowhere to be found when we left. No one at the bar. Nothing. It was like an empty building. Like no one cared. read more

We were lost, having selected the no-toll route and ended up in Perry. Starved and annoyed, we found this little jewel of restaurant. In the middle of nowhere, empty but with amazing food. Ordered the "Hole burger", the chicken wings, ceasar salad and the alfredo pasta. Everything tasted good. The pasta was creamy without being too cheesy, the wings were juici and delicious and the burger was WoW. We concluded with the caramel brownie. An orgasmic deliciousness... This restaurant is a rare find. And we are so happy we got lost. PS: To the Chef, please come open a restaurant in Boston. read more

This place is hardly a hole in the wall. It's cute, warm, and welcoming... and has obviously been remodeled over the years. It's reportedly been in business since 1932. I hope I look nearly that good when I'm 83! Two of us had an early dinner here. We were starving and had no idea where to eat and the handy-dandy Yelp app on my phone kind of guided us to this place. Now it's going to be a destination, not just a find. The French Onion Soup that I started with was hands down the best I've ever had. The broth was rich, but not too salty. The bread supporting the huge amount of gooey, flavorful cheese was not soggy. And, the flavors melded perfectly. My cheeseburger (with cheddar cheese as requested instead of the American) was perfectly cooked and flavorful. It was accompanied by so-so (reportedly) hand-cut thin fries and a tasty (but sad looking pickle). My boyfriend's Reuben was absolutely enormous! It was filled with so much tender, tasty corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese that I never thought he'd be able to lift it without everything toppling out..... but he managed.... and managed to devour every single delicious bite. We were really too full to have dessert, but managed to share one any way. The Snickers Pie was better than imagined: A peanut-butter cookie crust was filled with all sorts of things good and chocolaty and peanut-buttery and then topped with a hunk of Snickers and a caramel drizzle and a dollop of real whipped cream. The thing I love about this restaurant is the fact that it seems super fancy and very elegant, but the prices are definitely reasonable! My family loves going here for any special events or if we just want a nicer dinner with great service. I've usually always gotten a steak entree and have never had any complaints! My parents are 100% obsessed with this restaurant and I can't say I blame them! The only time we have ever had an issue was when they had a large reunion party going on and sat us right next to the table when there were a ton of open tables on the other side of the room. It was super loud and we had to asked to be moved because we could barely talk to each other. I know it's a pet peeve of my mine and my mother's to be sat next to a bunch of people when the rest of the restaurant is open, and yes I do understand that certain servers have certain sections (used to be one), but it's just not the greatest for the customers. Personally I hate when other tables can hear my whole conversation, especially when I could have a whole room to myself. I'm sure that was a freak situation though and otherwise we have always had a great experience every time! read more

Exquisite cuisine minutes from Letchworth. My only regret is not discovering this place sooner. Best prime rib that my girlfriend ever remembers having. The orzo was in its pure form, not cooked and they even sprinkled some hair in the food as well. Ever see two chips on a salad before? Well come on down and you'll have some over cooked pure chips tandem with one cherry tomato chopped in half with a single slice of cucumber, and some uneven onion and carrot served with a ranch sauce (maybe melted ice cream?) as opposed to a dressing. Nice place located next to silver lake. They have a good selection of lunch and dinner options as well as fresh made to order pizza from a brick oven, you have to try the pot roast pizza when it's offered it's very tasty, also have a good fish frys and other various sandwiches and full dinner plates. They have fresh made desserts and when the farmer's market is up and running they offer a farmers market 3 course dinner option very great for helping support the local farming community. Stopped here with my family after spending the morning in Letchworth Park. Prior reviews were great, but I wasn't sure what to expect as we drove down the small country road. Needless to say, we were all impressed. I had the 'hole' burger, which was very tasty. My wife ordered the turkey sandwich, and was also impressed. The butternut squash side was fantastic. One of my daughters ordered the crispy chicken salad. Everything was super fresh and presented very nicely. My other daughter ordered the chicken and biscuits special. Perfect comfort food!
