This is a fairly new Home Depot store not even a year old. This Home Depot is located in my hood. You can find anything from A to Z. The place is huge and the customer associates know exactly where the items are located in the store, which is very useful to avoid walking around miles trying to locate a small nut. Normally I am not a fan of Home Depot and would drive further to go to a Lowe's instead. Why - I liked the look of the Lowe's better, better selection, and better service. At any other Home Depot my experience has been if I needed help, I had to hunt the associate down and believe me they were quite elusive. Not so in this Home Depot in South Riding. I have now started shopping here pretty exclusively for basic home improvement needs. The customer service here is stellar. I am greeted as soon as I walk in and asked if I need help finding anything, While I am browsing the aisles, I am greeted by associates who ask if I need help. These people clearly have a great work environment and enjoy their jobs OR are putting in Oscar worthy performances. I was even offered popcorn one evening on my way in. They have one of those standalone poppers and make popcorn for their guests. This is a smaller store so selection might not be quite as good as in other locations. But being out in South Riding, the store is never so crowded you have to wait in line, plus they have the convenient self-check and there is never a problem with parking. I texted the location to my phone and got the part to pay. the price is $5 more then the online price, I asked for help and they say they don't match online price??? I was showing them the home depot web site. they don't match their own website's price.. worst business practice ever. Beyond horrible experience. We ordered I water heater from Home Depot and that order was in turn given to some other third-party vendor. The water heater is not at all working and I have no hot water for almost 2 weeks now. After a lot of back-and-forth, the owner of the water heater company that installed my water heater shows up. this man is a complete racist and start being extremely inappropriate when talking to us. I have been trying to reach Home Depot for almost 4 days now and Have been going around in circles. And extremely racist and poor customer service. With the exception of Tuan and Lisa (the reason this isn't a one star review) I've definitely purchased my last bit of gift cards and will by only knick knacks from here until the Lowes in Dulles Landing is built. I do a lot of home remodeling. I buy from Lowes & HD because I'm a disabled vet that can get a discount on a good majority of items and also purchase gift cards from sites like raise.com or cardpool.com...this past visit I've dealt with the Asst Mgr (Paris), Store Mgr (Pierrce). Asst Reg. Mgr (Christie) and District Mgr (Clint). I have a project and allotted myself $4,500 which I used to purchase $5,000 in gift cards. So that's about 50 gift cards. I put them all on an excel spreadsheet so that I can track what I have. Going through e-mails to track each card is cumbersome and I could print all of them out an burn 50 pages of paper but decide to keep everything on a spreadsheet and in a folder where I can track expenses via receipts and diagrams. I have purchased two washers, dryers and was going for the refridgerator a couple days ago. I could have purchased this online but like going to the store. Thus the storm began....Paris the AM was working up front and was going to 'help' me. We got the fridge on order and when I was about to pay she declined my method of payment which was her typing the gift cards in stating it was against HD policy. HD needs to have physical cards or emails so they can scan the bar code. A bar code. Seriously? One that you can replicate on your phone - yup! There's an app for that! She argued that she was following rules and I asked to speak with the Dumb Depot store manager who also shook his head up and down. So I had the store manager stand there while I typed out the gift cards for this order on their computer system at, how appropriate, the customer service area. Did they stop me? No...Did they make me feel like a crook or give me the 'home depot' experience? Absolutely. I spoke with Christie the Asst Reg Mgr who had empathy but expressed they were doing their job except the lack of customer service was noted. Clint (DM) agreed with Christie's assesssment and made mention that a lot of gift cards were being sold on the black market. The black market. Really? Are you kidding me? Wow...what kind of training do the managers go through? Well I have less than $2K left to burn and then they've just kissed all their project money from my pockets good bye. I was going to purchase the kitchen there, had the cabinets picked out and designer concept drawn out by HD. After that experience I took their drawing to Lowes and shelled out the money for beautiful Kitchen Classic Caspian cabinets. See HD, there are other stores out there that won't make by brown butt feel like I'm a crook! Silver lining to their OUTSTANDING POLICY? After putting the gift cards in Google Wallet and going back today 5/18/15 to buy plumbing supplies I hand the phone & app with the bar code to the employees...and guess what they're doing? WHO GUESSED TYPING THE NUMBERS IN?? GOLD STARS FOR YOU THAT GUESSED IT! And that folks is the "More Screwing Less Doing" Home Depot experience! The products and prices at Home Depot are great - IF you can track down someone with enough training to help you find things. It's a pretty well-known fact that Home Depot has better prices, but Lowes has better service. This is absolutely true at the South Riding store. When you walk in, there is a cheerful greeter who... isn't mentally capable. I was in line at the service desk and watched as several frustrated customers tried to ask him where a product was, and he either didn't know or tried to ask a passing associate who was helping someone else. It was very cringy. I'm all for giving the mentally disabled job opportunities, but why put him in a position he can't do? There were two associates working at the service desk, but you almost couldn't get in line to talk to them because the area around the station was littered with shopping carts, filled with abandoned items (or maybe returns?) It was seriously out of control, there had to be at least 10 carts full of stuff. I used to work at a Sears, and at least we always kept it tidy. I was coming in to return an item that I didn't need and switch it out for store credit. There was a huge gathering of people. The ladies called twice for backup cashiers to come to the service desk, but no one came. They even called for the manager to come to the desk, but he or she never came either. When it was eventually my turn, the transaction was quick and easy, but the whole time I was standing in line, there was a third associate - a loud, stocky lady who wasn't doing anything but complaining (and even using some non-family-friendly language) about a customer who had just left, which I found very rude, distracting and unprofessional. All around, the whole store just felt very unwelcoming. I've been shopping here for a couple years, and I've had good experiences in the past with paint desk people and kitchen appliances, and flooring. There's NEVER an associate in the garden section, loading area, or key machine. So, I'd still recommend the store if you know exactly what you're looking for, but if you've got questions or need help, definitely head somewhere else. read more

Best Home Depot I have ever been to. I do a lot of construction jobs for our homes and friends (hobby not professional) so have been to dozens of Home Depot's in the Maryland and Virginia area. I recently made an on-line order from Home Depot and had a problem when picking it up. I received a follow-up email asking me to rate the items I purchased along with the experience. I shared the problem in my review. They rejected the review because it didn't "conform to their guidelines". I guess they will only print positive reviews. The issue was that the cashier put my items in a bag without showing them to me first. When I looked inside, I found that not everything was there. She claimed that it was all there. I insisted that she go back and look for the other item. She finally took the time to go back and look and yes, she found the item still sitting there. I just think it would be nice if the workers took a little time to compare what is on the receipt to what they hand over to the customer. Lazy, careless, apathetic. read more

Horrible customer service. Couldn't find an employee to help me find something for 20 minutes, and when I finally found one, he said it wasn't his department (hardware) and started to walk off. I asked him if he can find someone who did work in the department and he took my list and said he'd try to find someone. 15 minutes later, the employee who took my list hadn't returned, and I overheard some other employees saying they didn't know if anyone was working in the hardware department. read more

Horrible customer service!!! tried to return a tool but they didn't want to take it back because they claimed it was used. How so? I just bought it for one day and found the tool didn't work, probably was a previous return then they put it back to the shelves and try to sell to the next unsuspected customer. I'm so conflicted - this store was pretty cool. Def in way better shape than the one in Fairfax. The shelves were stocked. Folks kept asking us if we need help & a few actually helped us. We really were having an awesome shopping experience & bought all sorts of things we'd needed for a long time. But - big fat but here - we encountered the worst possible human here. Lol. I may be exaggerating, but just slightly folks. This chick was so venomous & unhinged she actually terrified all the customers & her coworkers. She's an older lady who works in the paint section. She is apparently confused by her employment situation & erroneously believes the store is like her living room or some crap, cause let me tell u she lost her shizz when someone spilled paint near the cash registers. You'd think someone spilled red wine on her freaking wedding dress! It was sooooo bad. I don't know what to say. We should have gotten it on camera and/or gotten management involved but seriously we were all stunned into silence. And honestly just terrified of her. She shouldn't work here. She needs serious therapy and some help dealing with her anger issues. I'm joking now but that incident was super messed up. Can't even imagine what happened to The folks who spilled the paint, prolly shredded to pieces by this nutjob. But the poor souls who dared step into the spill - again it was in the checkout lane, so freaking unavoidable - were yelled at & berated, some had their carts yanked out of their hands & shoved into other lanes. The male employee @ the self checkout counter was just cowering in fear & trying to avoid her. She ruined everyone's day :( I don't know if we'll ever go back. My new favorite store. So far my shopping experience include buying home improvement stuff that are worth around $400 and less. Folks around the store are very helpful. They will hunt down the item if the item cannot be found on the floor. Employee are very courteous and profession. Very knowledgeable employee responsible for their specific expertise. You have questions, you ask questions, you get answers. It's as simple as that. The difference between this store and other home depot store that I've shop at is night and day. I haven't had to buy major appliances from this store yet, but I am looking forward to it. Hopefully things will turn out as well as what I have experiences thus far. read more

1st, out of all the Home Depots, this is a hidden Gem. It is not crazy, over crowded or dis organized. I have always been greeted, pointed in the right direction, helped from friendly people and when I needed help, well, they were all over it. I want say, William in the doors and windows dept was awesome. If you enjoy being laughed at by employees then this is your place! Every can of paint I wanted had a major dent in it, so I asked a staff member if there were any other cans that weren't dented. Turns out there wasn't, so I asked if there was a discount because every product had a flaw. The employee laughed at me and was incredibly rude. I bought their dented cans anyway, and as I was checking out their flimsy plastic bag broke and the paint fell to the ground (I will admit I probably exceeded its weight limit). As I'm holding my baby in one arm, and trying to collect my cans rolling on the floor, the check out staff just stand there two feet away and watched. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The customer service at this store continues to be unbelievably horrible. Just got kicked out of trim section because they couldn't wait 10 minutes to move some merchandise in the next section. I understand the safety aspect but not waiting a few minutes so that a customer can get some material is a JOKE. No way can corporate know how poor this store is run. They continuously are understaffed at checkout. The store is close to home but I can't count then number of times I have left this store and drove aways to go to Lowes. I kick myself every time I go to this place. For the life of me I can never figure out why they are always stocking shelves during the day and blocking the aisles. Once in while would be fine but every time I go in they have a couple blocked. Again, all poor management. If negative ratings were possible, it would be appropriate for this store. read more

I came with a friend to pick out paint colors and as anyone who has painted your home picking out colors can be a daunting task. The computer scanner to help you pick out colors didn't work and it took forever to find the color we already picked out. We purchased 5 gallons of paint and when my painters started to paint they discovered the paint was not throughly mixed and beads of unmixed paint was all through out the entire gallons. The staffed seemed helpful but after coming home to discover the cans were not well mixed it's was annoying as we paid out painters by the hour and it took them longer because they had to pick out the beads of unmixed paint. read more

I spend very little time in hardware and home improvement stores. As a matter of fact, the last time I was in one was to pick up paint chips/samples to use for arts & crafts projects with my nephew. :-) However, I had gotten tired of the AC vent blowing right in my face as I slept, and I wanted to see if there was some type of vent cover I could purchase to redirect the air. I was in the neighborhood, and saw this HD, so decided to pop in. No one offered to help us, but I was able to find what I needed rather quickly. A very cool magnetic size-adjustable vent cover was less than $3! Sold!!! And the thing works like a charm. read more

We went there to buy some window coverings. I know that HD employees are eager to help. They must get paid more if they help more folks! In the short time we were in the store, 5 - 6 employees that we walked by asked us if they could help us. It wasn't the obnoxious pressure sale etc... that some stores have. They looked up / over at us, smiled, and asked if there was anything they could show us. This experience is the complete opposite of the experience I had at MyEyeDr in Reston. read more

Wow! What a horrible experience. Purchased a dishwasher that was to be installed in our home. The installation person that they selected could not install without cutting my wood floor! Do not understand that as the current dishwasher was installed after the wood floor. Returned the dishwasher, called to follow up to be sure I received the credit on my card. At 3:00 in the afternoon on a Wednesday was on hold for over 60 minutes! It is hard for me to believe that nobody could answer the phone in over one hour in the middle of the work week. Please do not use Home Depot for ANY appliances. They contract with a company named FSA Network for their deliveries. Every review they have is a 1. We have been waiting over 5 weeks on a dryer and given 3 different delivery dates. Please ask Home Depot if they work with this company prior to placing any order. When asking for help, I find that I get really mixed results from the store associates. Some times they are very knowledgeable and helpful and other times I get the most random of answers. I frequent them because they are close to home, but wish I could get quality service consistently. read more

But when I tried to wander the store, looking for the step stools and ladders, I was left searching for a considerable amount of time. I passed at least 3 staff members looking perplexed with no avail before I decided to grab someone. The one I chose was not helpful and didn't know the store layout. It's difficult to find a competent associate at this store. From them know knowing what zip ties are or how to cut blinds it's becoming a problem. Home Depot everywhere else has been pretty good, this store seems to go out of the way to hire people that don't speak english or know anything about their products. The manager tries to fix their screw ups but after waiting at least 25 minutes for an associate just to come back to you it doesn't really help. I"d avoid this location and go to another one. There is another one about 15 minutes away and they are a lot easier to work with. read more

I stood around waiting for ages for help one day, so very many associated passed by, no one offered to help, the ones that were helping, had several people waiting to ask questions.
