I was looking for a longer screw for my Stihl leaf blower. I was advised to bring in the blower for a better look. Came back a couple of days later and a service member took my blower to the back after I explained my problem. He was gone for 30 minutes; then I noticed their labor sign for diagnosis and minimum charges. I started to get nervous because I was told earlier if it was a simple screw issue there would not be a charge. The service tech came back and said he re-inserted the screw but will probably work itself out again. He recommended a formal diagnostic. There was no charge for this visit. I've been a patron for years. I stopped in to pickup a bag of equestrian pellets for our fur baby. Service is always on point. I'm not sure how they only hire the nicest, most helpful employees. Now price point is why only four stars. I can get a 40lb bag from TS Woodbridge for $7.99, I paid almost double here, $14+. I didn't feel like driving all the was to TS so I paid the eye gauging price. A gentleman employee took it out to my car and our brief conversation solidified why I continue to shop here. After waiting to talk to a plumbing expert, Joe helped us find the right repair parts to fix a leaky outdoor faucet. He was really patient in explaining the potential cause of the leak after looking at the faucet and even helped to put on a rubber washer. If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would. The guy at the service desk with the long hair was outrageously rude, and the manager wasn't any better--completely useless and dismissive. Let me lay out the ridiculous experience I had: I bought a brand-new EGO lawnmower on June 11, genuinely excited to use it. The very next day, it wouldn't even start. I returned it to the store, and they gave me a replacement. That one worked for exactly one use--then started cutting off every 10 seconds. I initially gave it the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe the grass was too thick. Then I went on vacation for a few days, came back, tried again on dry, short grass... same issue. I called the store. They told me to bring it in and said they'd return it. So I took the trouble to drive all the way there today--and guess what? Not only did they refuse to return it, but they acted like I was asking for a favor instead of trying to get support for a $640 product that barely functioned! Their attitude was dismissive, rude, and downright disrespectful, as if I got the mower for free. This is hands down the worst customer experience I've ever had. The staff clearly don't care, and once they've made a sale, they wash their hands of any responsibility. If something goes wrong, they'll just tell you to contact the manufacturer--even if it's been just a few days since your purchase. It feels like a total scam. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We came in for help finding materials to fix a knee scooter. The service manager, Eddie, did an amazing job helping fabricate a solution. He was patient and generous with his time. This is only one of many times when staff went above and beyond any reasonable expectations to help me. Whether it's help fabricating equipment, helping with paint supplies, or fixing my plumbing, Ace is the first and only place I go for DIY materials in my home. I tend to shop here first as opposed to the large chain stores, and the staff are always pleasant, but sometimes it can be frustrating to get what you need. Today, for example, I was warmly greeted when I walked into the store. I said what I needed. I was directed to where I needed to go and the associate radio for someone to come help me after 10 minutes is standing in the aisle where the screws and bolts are all in drawers and I do not know how they organize them because any other time I have purchased them with the help of the associate, I just walked out. There was a line at the front And I did not see anyone else to ask who didn't appear to be otherwise engaged, so now I have to go to one of the big box stores that I absolutely hate because I needed four screws for a closet rod. I am not saying that this is a store I would avoid in fact I like them at this location and the location in Arlington. They have been so helpful to me whether it's for my own property or rental property, but today it's annoying because something that should have taken two minutes, I now have to drive to a big box store that I do not like supporting because they are not a locally owned business that Reminds me of the old-fashioned hardware stores from small town America. It's nice to have that option in northern Virginia with people who actually know what they're talking about. The other thing I have to do probably is by more than I need because I don't know the exact item and usually the staff at Ace Hardware are able to help me narrow it down to get exactly what I want because I already have a garage that's overflowing with random nuts, bolts and screws that I would need organizers like they have to keep it organized because I can't find what I need when I need it, but today was a disappointment. read more

Great selection of items. I went in for garden food and walking around, realized how many other things on my list of home items I could get here. The customer service is absolutely top notch too. I asked someone a specific question about hydrangea food and how long the bag would be good for in storage. The employee didn't know, which was totally fine and I appreciated he didn't try to bluster his way through. I thanked him, made my decision, and moved on to another aisle. Minutes later he came up to me and said he wanted to know even just for himself so he googled it! The employees were bustling putting out products and sometime asked me to move to navigate carts down the narrow-ish spaces. But unlike so many places I've shopped in store, it seemed like they actually scheduled enough employees that there were enough employees to stock and enough employees to answer questions. I went here to get some Christmas lights because, of course, mine blew. Ace was the only place I could find that had the lights I needed I stock at the store. I had never been in this store much less an Ace in a really long time but the moment I stepped in it was such a cool little shop that I can't believe I hadn't been there before. The employees were above and beyond welcoming and helpful. They were so helpful to the point I think I had the same kid asked me about four times if I need help finding anything; I don't know if he couldn't remember if he asked me or if he was just genuinely trying to be helpful times four, LOL. Bottom line, every single employee I encountered, or remotely made any kind of eye contact with, asked me if I needed any help or if they could assist me with anything. I ended up having Cliff assist me and wow, what amazing customer service. I was personally assisted with every need until I didn't need anything else. WOW! They have a wide array of home-improvement stuff even though it's a smaller store. You can find things from grills to paint to lightbulbs to fun socks and snacks. They have all sorts of little gift and knickknack stuff, to which I was pleasantly surprised because some of it is things that are hard to fine but so cool and unique. That being said some of the stuff was a little bit pricier than you might find somewhere else but again emphasis on "unique". I think my greatest find this trip was a super long funnel to water my Christmas tree without having to bend down and get on my hands and knees to do it; best eight dollars I ever spent in my life, lol. I'm so excited with this fine that I can't wait to use it again next year and everyone I show is blown away at what a great gadget it is - SCORE! I did end up going back because one of the boxes of lights I purchased blew - par for the course for me this year LOL. Ace graciously took them back with a smile and an apology. We have a nut allergy in our family and have to be careful with the charcoals and wood when we grill. We cannot use pecan or walnut woods. Not an issue at ALL at Ace. The charcoal selection is amazing and the employees know specifically about the charcoal. They have unusual brands, boutique brands, local brands and big name brands in charcoal. They even had a charcoal demo last weekend! Last year we ordered a really nice grill and had Ace deliver it on my husbands birthday. It was an amazing experience to not have to assemble it or unload it from my van. read more

My husband and I are both fans of this location. This is our preferred location for home gadgets and the only place worth visiting if you have a question. There is always someone ready and willing to assist and if someone doesn't have the answer or know the location they ask another staff!! Most recently, a staff swung over and assist anther who was unknowingly given incorrect information and then she just as quickly moved to another customer. Beyond the great staff and general hardware store items they also have an assortment of non-traditional items. Most recently I purchased a friend a cool bag with a great picture made from recycled material. She loved it and was surprised when I told her a got it at Ace. This hardware store is well organized, clean, and relatively accessible with an awesome staff. It is our go to spot for home items. Great customer service and a superb place to find Weber grill accessories! After a frustrating 30 minutes at Home Depot looking for charcoal stoppers (which are used with indirect grilling to keep the charcoals contained on 2 sides), I drove over to the Twins Ace Hardware store in Fairfax. As you know, it can be difficult to find anyone to help you at Home Depot. I was frustrated after looking on their website and realizing that they did not have this accessory in-store (it's only available online and you have to wait 48 hours to receive it). Given that my indirect grilling would occur on the same evening, that was not an option. When I arrived at Twins Ace Hardware, a staff person at the front asked me what I was looking for and directed me to the Weber grill accessories on the far right. I then asked for help again because I could not find the Weber part. Within 1 minute, another staff person came to meet me and knew exactly what the charcoal stopper was. He looked carefully and found it was stored on the upper left shelf. I was impressed that they had this accessory in stock and that the staff member knew exactly what I was looking for. 11/4/19 After getting my mind blown from counting carbs learning what is good and bad, I needed to buy some batteries for my blood sugar tester. Upon entering the store, I saw the store was well organized and look fresh and clean. Even the mouse I saw in the store seemed to know where everything is. While I was there, I tried to get a second copy of a key made, but Jaun the key master wasn't able to find the key needed. Nevertheless, Juan was helpful and apologetic for not having the right key needed. I did find the type of batteries needed for my blood sugar reader. Once I found the right item, I was ready to check out. The employees were always checking to see if customers needed assistance. This is much appreciated. read more

I needed to buy an electric grill. There is a Home Depot less than a mile from my house, but I went online to see what the other options were and found Fairfax Ace Hardware. It is about 35 minutes away, but I hate big box stores, and liked the employee ownership aspect, as well as the strong customer service reviews. Unfortunately,, I can't join that chorus. I went to the store yesterday after speaking with them on the phone, went to the grill area and waited until I had to go to the front desk and ask them to page someone. The person who came was surprisingly not very knowledgeable or engaging, but we did find a grill and then,after along search,we found a stand for it. I took it home and after some considerable effort got the stand together, only to find that the grill doesn't fit the stand. I called them back and they said they would look into it, check with their manager and the manager would get back to me the next morning(today). I had to call them when I hadn't heard anything and then learned from the manager that they don't sell the stand that goes with the grill they sold me. We determined that the only viable option was to exchange the grill and I asked them if they would be a cost and they said no "our mistake and will make it right. " When I got to the store, they had the grill waiting and then charged me an additional fee.I reminded them of what they had told me, but they were unmoved. I held off on ordering a bbq grill for a while, because I've had bad experiences with the other two large hardware stores, because they outsource their delivery to a third party. Stumbled upon this Yelp page which gave me the courage to place an order with Twins Ace Hardware. Definitely did not regret placing the order! Their customer service is wonderful, they respond via text, email or phone, and they answer all the questions you have. Delivery was perfect, two young guys brought my bbq grill up the stairs like I asked and they assembled the propane tank for me. The guys who delivered my grill were Ace Hardware employees, so it wasn't outsourced to another company. I think what makes a huge difference is that with Ace Hardware, it's a franchise, so it's essentially a small business and that's how you get great customer service. I have not been in a Hardware Store ANYWHERE that has better customer service. When I entered the store, someone was called up and immediately started assisting me. The two items I needed were parts for a Stihl saw (a chain and a Battery) that NOONE has anywhere around me, you also cannot find them on the internet. I went there because the chain was showing in stock and got it inside two minutes. The person (Laura) was so helpful, I asked if they might have a battery as well and had that in my hands as well. Out the door in five minutes... I would have spent 15 in any Home Depot or Lowes before even finding one person to help me. This store and Management runs this place the old fashioned way but so much better. Huge Hardware Store, everything was clean and organized, had two parts you can't find anywhere and again, the customer service was outstanding... Shout out to Ace Hardware on 236/ Main Street, Fairfax! They have dreidels! They have menorah candles! They have Hanukkah wrapping paper and cards and gelt and little chocolate Maccabees! After going to the nearby CVS, Safeway, and 7-11 and finding absolutely nothing at all for Hannukah, I was so happy to see one local business that cares enough to include everyone in the community. They have many adorable stocking stuffers, and Christmas theme gifts, too. And - oh, yeah- hardware. I can often find what I need here - such as potting soil- more easily than at the gigantic stores. We have had our weed wacker and other garden tools fixed here. Excellent customer service, too. Someone always asks nicely if you need any help without hovering. read more

So, the service at this ACE location is still outstanding; however, the STHIL Weed whacker is a superb pain in the butt to use. The battery, literally last 20 mins. But I have only had the opportunity to run it down to zero power one time out of four uses. The other three uses ended well before the battery ran out of juice because the steel weed string feed system is a complete joke. This little gem of a mechanical feature does not feed the line out without a complete disassembly of the holder. The bump feed does not work, and it is impossible to go 10 minutes without needing to stop, disassembly the line holder and manually feed more line, and then cut the line to length. I would rather go back to Iraq and get shot at because of my inept LTjg -- she could not remember the command "weapons free" at battle stations -- then fight this dumb - - - weed feeding system on this crap weed whacker. It's a two star review, because the STHIL in store rep sold me a $230.00 bag of - icks. read more

The store associates are incredibly helpful. I need help choosing the right paint stain .they tested colors on bare wood to match the sample I had. Provided recommendations . I also noticed that the novelty gift items or random stuff like Live butterflies kits and I love VA plaques are not sold at other locations. They also matched the online pricing for me . Fantastic service by Twins Ace Hardware! I stopped by to check out their Weber Grills, as there aren't many Weber dealers in NoVA with grills actually in-stock. They keep the grills upstairs. Within 5 minutes of browsing, the nicest ever employee, Jeff, approached me and offered help. We discussed my options (gas or electric) and he offered to give me time to decide what I want, then once I decided, he'd get them taken downstairs for me and delivered to my car. I went for the Weber Q2200 with folding cart. At checkout, I saw the price sticker on the box, it said $199. It rung-up at $249. I mentioned it to Jeff and he said it was a pricing error, that's for the Q1200. I said no problem at all, but Jeff wasn't having it - he immediately cancelled the transaction and re-entered it at $199. He said it was their error so I would pay the price on the box. Fantastic service! Jeff then had an employee help me carry it all to my car and load up, which I was grateful for as I also had my 3yr old son with me. I love this store, because everyone knows what they're talking about. My first choice is to talk to the owners, who always seem to be there. But even the high school age kids seem to know what they're talking about. One slow Friday, I reluctantly asked a high school age sales clerk about the paint. He was surprisingly good at answering my questions about the different paint brands. In addition, the store seems small compared to Lowe's and Home Depot, but I've always found what I needed here. (I think the main difference is they don't have the massive lumber and garden sections at Lowe's/Home Depot.) There's 2 reasons I don't come to this store more often. First, the location can be kind of annoying when I'm not interested in navigating the traffic through downtown Fairfax. Second, 8% tax! I think it's because Ace Hardware is located in the city of Fairfax. I recently bought 4 cans of paint for $100, and was unpleasantly surprised when I looked at my receipt and saw that the total price jumped up to $110. That's a dinner date for 2 at Subway that went to the government instead. That said, Ace has a Groupon-type deal going on at least once or twice a year, and that helps me overcome the 2-location related reasons for not coming here more often. read more

It is famous for a variety of home maintenance and power tool service.
