Don't waste your time, gas or money renting from this home depot. Specifically carpet cleaners and pressure washers. They don't even have all the parts to all the pressure washers. I rented a carpet cleaner one day, used it, and carpet still smelled bad, like it didn't really clean anything. So I go back to rent another, take it all the way home, fill it, turn it on, and the water hose doesn't work. I did get a refund. But just go to Lowe's for these services. It was the busiest I've ever seen a Home Depot when I came. Pro line was down & everybody had to make phone calls for payments for some reason. Staff service was ok, but employees were sparse so there was not enough to help everyone. They have most of the standard items in stock, but anything outiside of the norm (like 1-1/4" foam pipe insulation in my case) was missing. Because of all of the issues the check-out line was long. It took almost an hour just to get checked out which was frustrating. read more

I went here last night with my husband to get a few items before closing. We were helped by a gentleman by the name of Derrell. He worked in the Paint section. He was patient and very informative when helping us decide on which tools and type of paint to use for our home. AWFUL SERVICE. I visited the 200 W. 87th store to purchase 20 pieces of wood trim. The trim needed to be cut in the store and I was told that "I had to do so myself", in the store. I was stunned and could not believe that a store would risk the safety of its customers and also risk an insurance liability within the store. I immediately left without making a purchase. I am avid gardener. The 87th store is the only store that has plants outside with no carts and no dedicated cash register. The garden door was closed for the entire season. The inside section is often unattended with no one to help with soil or mulch. The plant section has a damp dank smell due to over watering and no ventilation. I drive to other Home Depot stores that are more accommodating. I hate to see plant dept suffer because of lack of staffing and accommodation. read more

please, I beg you, with how crowded this store gets, there is no way to social distance here, so please wear the mask over the mouth and nose, and not on your chin. It serves no purpose on the chin. I went in today, and 3 employees had masks on the chin or neck, and not over the mouth. About half of the other employees I saw only wore them over the mouth. Nobody bothers to tell customers to put a mask on. This place is prime breeding ground for Covid-19. As I have preferenced my other reviews of The Home Depot, I will say that I currently work for a building products company and I spend most of my time in THD at various locations throughout the city. I spend more time in this store than any other as it is the second largest volume THD in Chicago. The staff here is pretty good and very friendly. This store is ALWAYS busy, but the staff is very helpful. However, this store isn't in the greatest neighborhood on the planet. I have guys trying to sell me stolen watches and whatnot almost every day in the parking lot. I don't know if this is true, but there is a rumor at my company that there was a shooting in the parking lot last year. If this is the closest THD near you, its a good one. But if it isn't, better safe than sorry! Oh, and if your getting any flooring done, go see my boy Zuri! read more

The door drags the ground and it doesn't close flush to the frame! The side door was installed well , lock on top, door knob underneath, the fro t door has the door knob on top and lock on bottom! You want to trust that Home Depot will provide you with a honest and skilled contractor when you reach out to them for these resources. However, that's not always the case. My cousin hired a contractor, A-Reliable Craftsmen, owner Curtis Batiste to lift his front porch/stairs, stabilize the front porch handrails (because they had become loose and wobbled), and a few other items. Mr. Batiste, poured cement in the handrail holes, and told my cousin to let it cure for 30 days. 30 days later, upon his return he found that the rails were still loose. When my cousin asked how was he going to fix the problem, Mr. Batiste asked him for additional money to repair. Mind you that my cousin is Blind. This contractor is dishonest and took advantage of a disable person. If I could give him and Home Depot a zero, I would. Do Better Home Depot. Protect your customers. read more

Dear The Home Depot The BLATANT disrespect I just experience at your Chicago Location (200-232 W. 87th St) is truly reprehensible. I waited to get a key made at the Key Hero Machine. I was the only one in the line for the service. I waited over 45 minutes and didn't receive assistance. ANY ASSISTANCE. I asked four people for assistance and was told that the only person who knows how to operate the Key Hero Machine would be down to assist me. (That in itself is an issue as you have only one person capable of servicing the machine in a store with well over 30 employees. It's a handicap to your business as today so eloquently displayed.) The individual who was "called" to service me never even showed up. Spoke to the Manager Mike and received only more disrespect as he told me "If it's only one person who can perform the service then you need to wait. This came out the mouth of your STORE MANAGER who oversees the Customer Service Experience as well as the Operations of the store. I've worked retail 15 years for several Big Box Companies as well as being in management 13 of those 15 years. I have never experience such vile and disregarding behavior from a Manager. This behavior is discouraged from associates but to see this displayed from a Manager let's me know that stature and example that is showcased for the team. Wasting 45 minutes wasn't even the icing on the cake, it was the lack of Urgency & Empathy. Needless to say, I left the established empty handed but equipped with a mission to spread the narrative of this mention establishment. Had a very bad customer service experience at this Home Depot location where after items were wrung up, we waited for over 20 minutes for a hardware specialist to come to get a new pack of screws as the ones we had at checkout did not have a barcode in the package! My friend and I waited patiently for the specialist and asked the cashiers to page hardware specialist, or walk over to get a new packet of stews or find a manager, and no one showed up!!!!!!! I returned all of the materials we just purchased due to the experience at the return counter and that's when things changed.... Our "0 star" experience changed to a "4 star" experience because the manager C.J. left his post, walked us over to the hardware department to find the screws with a barcode on them, got all of the items we just returned, and then gave me a huge discount on our purchase. I'm so glad that he took his job and customers to heart as he showed us what true customer service is about just by his simple action of listening, attending, and satisfying his clients. Home Depot thank you for hiring C.J. and having him at this location to rectify any issue with employees or customers! Because of him, I will be back! read more

I have been here a fair amount of times with mixed experiences. Last time I went, they had ONE register open with a person, and the rest were self service. Since the one attended register was a mile long, I opted to go to the self service. As it turns out, 50 pound bags of concrete are not the easiest thing to checkout through the automated system. I eventually pushed the assistance button, she came over with her wireless doohicky, and scanned everything in my cart in. That was OK I guess. The problem I had was the idiot security guard (in the fake cop outfit) who they hire to look at receipts on your way out. I bought 3 bags of concrete, two were of the same type and the third was a different type. On my receipt there were 2 line items for the 3 bags... one line said 2@3.00 to indicate two bags. Not only did he not understand this, he actually started to tell me I didn't pay. I explained it to him, but he repeated "there aren't 3 on there" several times.. Everything I said went through one ear and out the other. After about 20 seconds or so of back and forth, I told him "you're a f'king idiot, learn how to read a receipt before you try to embarrass customers" ... I grabbed my receipt out of his hand and walked on out. (HD has no legal right to require me to stop at the door to show my receipt as it is)... How stupid can someone be, particularly when it's their job to look at receipts? And does he really think I'd go through the trouble of stealing a $3.00, 50 pound bag of concrete, when there are obviously more valuable things that are much smaller? Geezeo. read more

I purchased a freezer less Frigidaire refrigerator that stopped cooling before 40 days. I called to return the unit and was told that I would have to pay a restocking fee of $100 for a bad product! It seems to any reasonable person, to make the manufacture of the product and not the customer pay the restocking fee. It's not as if I did not like the refrigerator, it just stopped working and I have been without a refrigerator for several weeks now. I keep going back and forth with the protection plan provided by Home Depot and they said not their problem, I fall under the manufacture that does not care about you once you spend your money. I will never buy another major appliance from Home Depot again! I will never buy and neither should you a Frigidaire major appliance as you can never get past the customer service personal that cannot make a decision other than what's written on paper. I can't buy eggs, milk, fruit and veggies that need to in a refrigerator. The most horrible experience one that is not well can go through. I'm sure my blood pressure is up and I have gained several pounds from eating out everyday!! All of the food I had went bad and I can't get a refund from asurion until the refrigerators fixed! Crazy! Extraordinarily busy especially the paint department (been there morning, noon, and night weekdays), definitely understaffed, and low inventory on certain items (at least a few we were interested in). Some items are mislabeled, misplaced, or just plain missing! We found the staff generally helpful and friendly. Did a pre-call to ask about wallpaper only to be put on hold, when the rep came back to the phone he casually told me they carry some. Upon arrival to the parking lot it felt like we landed in an apocalypse movie with all the garbage all over the place. I go inside looking for the area that carry the wallpaper to have an associate tell me they don't carry any at all just the supplies to remove it. Oh and to top it all off when heading back to my vehicle there was a customer who just left a piss puddle between his truck and mine as he prepped to head into the store. I left before I lost it.
