I went into Home Depot for a simple item that the app showed was in stock, but it wasn't on the shelf. I asked a couple of employees for help, but didn't get very far. I returned to my car and call but the automated phone system was frustrating too. Then I got Shawna. She listened, checked on the item, found it, retrieved it, and called me back to let me know it was ready. That completely changed the experience for me. The inventory issue was frustrating, but Shawna took ownership and actually solved the problem. It was also a reminder that no matter how much technology we use, there is still real value in the human experience. My husband and I took an old paint. Can that was full from a previous painting job in with us to both buy new paint supplies and hopefully get the old can shaken up so we could use it in our project. Eli was awesome! He understood our situation and it was happy to shake up the old can make sure it was gonna work for the new project and color match that paint so we can get an additional can of primer. I requested assistance and the team found it on the top shelf and had to fork lift it down. Lawrence made sure I made it to check out with 5 minutes to spare before closing. I've been shopping here for several years now. Sometimes it's easier just to order stuff and get it delivered but sometimes you have to go in yourself. There's always some project going on when you own a house whether it's inside or out. I don't usually need any help but when I have it's no problem to get some. Once in a while we've asked for directions, but mostly it's to cut something in the lumber department. They've always been good about it even when it means they have to get someone out there to do it. Usually I'm outside in the garden area and staff are usually very friendly. When I needed advice on a painting project I got it, and the paint, with ease. I just wish they had better coupons since I'm not usually spending hundreds or thousands at a time. That and the credit card are clearly more directed at professionals because who is constantly having large scale projects? At least it's convenient when I need to pop in. This review is for the Happy Valley store in Clackamas. I am managing a flooring project for my home in West Linn from Bend. My contractor said he needed some materials from HD the he could pick up locally. I am also a military vet and thought I had set up an account online- but unfortunately this store did not see it to honor it, and I could not place an online order for the materials I needed so I did not get a discount which would have amounted to $142.00. In any case, I dealt with someone named Carson who was very efficient in getting my order placed so my contractor can pick it up bright and early tomorrow. I just wish HD would do something to map online activity with store activity; I think it's a blind spot for them as I have been dealing with this sort of issue for well over over 20 years. And as a military vet I need all the help I can get when it comes to cost. Other than that, HD keep rocking hiring good employees like Carson. read more

I will never go back to Home Depot. They have the worst customer service I have seen. Their selection is OK, but their prices are extremely high. I have gone to Home Depot several times over the last nine months after purchasing a home. Every time I go in there, I am completely ignored. Even if I have a question, I can never get an answer; the stories are filthy. It doesn't look like they ever clean the place. The people are rude and nasty, and prices are high. I can't say anything good about Home Depot at all, other than don't go there, go somewhere else, find a locally owned business, at least they'll treat you like a human being, unlike these big chains. I have shopped at this Home Depot for many years now. The last review I wrote was 10 years ago...it was a 5-star review based on a single encounter. Over the last year, I've had a lot of different sales people and have shopped in many different departments. the overall experience is probably 2.5 stars. A couple of encounters stand out in my mind. 1. the latest experience i had was in the appliance department. I went in with $2000 to spend on a new washer/dryer. I was never approached or helped by the sales person. However, when a traditional-looking couple walked in and started looking at these same appliances, the sales person approached them immediately to see if they needed assistance. I decided to not be a pansy and go ask for help, but he was more interested in whatever was happening on his computer than on me. So i left with my money in my pocket and spent it at Standard TV and Appliance. 2. the other is of an encounter with a sales associate over in the tools department. He was helpful, and he sold me a cordless drill. When i bought it, he explained that they sell you the drill for cheap, so that you will then be prompted to purchase the replacement batteries in the future...that they make their money on the battery sales. This drill came with 2 batteries. and after using the drill intermittently for about a year, the charger broke... My overall experience here: it's hit-or-miss. read more

I get it - they need to lock things up. Here's the thing though... I genuinely and walking with a cane. I was practically collapsing by the fourth time I had to genuinely walk all the way across the store to try to beg someone to help me just unlock a cabinet so that I can buy a thing. On 3/18/21, I ordered countertops to be installed in my house for $1,880.00. I paid that in full right then. There was no mention of additional costs. On 5/1/21 a husband and wife team came to install my countertops and the largest piece was cut a foot too short so they left, with my kitchen countertops removed so I had nowhere to set my appliances or asny countertop to use to cook. They said they'd try to get someone back out when they could; possibly in a few weeks. I was furious. 2 weeks later, on 5/13/21, the husband and wife team came back and finished installing my countertops. On 6/18/21, I received a letter stating that I owe an addt'l amount of $593.00 for the disconnect and reconnect of my sink. That is absurd! I did not agree to that and it was nowhere in my contract! I think it is incredibly dishonest to charge a person for a service, after the fact, that they did not agree to. I spent $3,643.35 on carpet and installation through Home Depot and thousands more on appliances and supplies and plants. I was a good customer. But, now, they have sent me to a collection agency. I will pay the amount, in my own sweet time - but I feel bamboozled and like Home Depot ripped me off. I always preferred Home Depot because of their patriotism to our vets (which I've heard they've made more difficult for older vets to use because ones like my father do not have a smart phone and they cannot get a discount without the app) but I have an Ace Hardware and Lowes just as close to me and can start shopping there. read more

Taking 2 seconds too long to find the bar code on an item can lead to instant drama, from the register being intentionally frozen to the wheels locking on your cart to being surrounded by women who talk in falsetto-high voices. Home Depot, from a shopping experience, is pretty typical. Finding what you're looking for can be tough, but their signage is quite good: Giant categorical signs hanging from the ceiling to help guide shoppers. Prices are generally lower than the other big chain. This particular location seems to be more brightly lit than others, and also seems to have strictly self-service checkouts. While some may prefer this, it tends to make getting to a cash register chaotic in that there are not really clearly delineated "lines" in which to wait. It also can make for a long wait if there are any issues with patrons needing assistance because there seems to always be only one "cashier" for the entire area. read more

Had a Huge issue with my blindes being cut wrong twice. 9 trips back and forth to Home Depot and had to re-explain the issue every single time to someone new because there was no communication on what was going on which was maddening. Was understanding as possible and as nice as possible while being stressed out and also being asked a million questions being expected to know the answers they should of had. Got a crazy run around trying to get some sort of compensation for my time of dealing with this for for two months and and got a low ball offer at first of $50 off. Got told to talk to a manager for someone reason I couldn't get a hold of on the phone got told to talk to one in person. Went to talk to one In person while still dealing with the blinds being cut wrong and he told me to come back in on a later date because he wanted to make sure he blinds were now cut correctly. I asked if I could call over the phone cause I didn't want to come in again and asked for when would be a good time to call. Called and he wasn't in and talked another manager who knew nothing of the issue who only offered $100 off saying it was generous because in the notes it said to only give $50. I feel 100% taken advantage of and got the biggest run around of my life. They wore me down on purpose till I had no more will in me to stand up for myself. read more

I couldn't get anyone to help me in millworks (windows and doors). I called the store to see if they could send someone back to help me. The phone at the desk I was sitting at rang and rang. No one came to answer it. I wen to the service desk and they called for someone who could help me order a window. No one responded. They called for a manager. No one responded. I went back to millworks and finally called Home Depots competition. I completed the order over the phone and have to go there to sign since it's a custom order. Sad that Home Depot is losing its edge. They used to be pretty good at customer service. What started off as as simple carpet installation turned into a very frustrating ordeal. The Home Depot system is broken and if you are considering having any kind of installation I would reconsider your options and get more quotes. After this epic fail on the behalf of Home Depot we have taken our business elsewhere and are relieved to be working with other skilled, professional and knowledgeable businesses that can get things done in a timely manner. The price difference wasn't even that much and I had initially went with Home Depot thinking it would be cheaper. I agree with the two others that said carpet install has been a disaster. I made the mistake of doing a carpet and hardwood install through Home Depot and it has been a terrible experience thus far. I don't even know where to begin. After a lot of confusing misinformation where people over the phone told me different information than people in the store, I met Dennis at this location who is the only reason this review has one star. He cleared up some confusion for me and answered my questions that no one else would with patience and understanding. My hardwood was supposed to arrive about a week ago and I scheduled my carpet install on 6/23. When I called the company to confirm today, they told me they had cancelled on 6/7 and told Home Depot that. Well no one bothered to tell me. I have to move out of my home on 6/30 and now my dates they are rescheduling me to are 7/5 and 7/13. I feel like I've taken every step to try to ensure this goes smoothly and Home Depot has thwarted me at every turn. Still no firm eta on the wood and I've talked to two assistant store managers. Matt, who was helpful, and John who was a huge jerk and just kept telling me all the things he couldn't do. When I asked what he could do, he told me nothing and to ask one of his associates who worked in the department. I will update this review once I actually get some resolution but as of today, still no install. And I created this order on 6/2, paying over $9000. The minus-three stars are for the following avoidable issues: - rented a tool, purchased extra protection in case of damage - got the tool home; it wouldn't start and wouldn't run - returned the tool (HD employees also couldn't get it to start or run--so at least it wasn't my own ineptitude) - the cashier, who was kind and courteous, didn't know how to process a refund; he asked me to wait **another 20 minutes** for the other cashier to come on shift, who knows how to perform refunds (after I had already waited 20 minutes for him to help two other customers--so thanks, but no, and why didn't you call someone to come help you / me instead, when you had the opportunity?) - the tool had just been newly serviced (do the techs start and run the machines prior to putting them back on the floor?) - left the rental area, sought out customer service on my own, and got my refund processed within three minutes - ...and the coup de grâce: before leaving, I was given wrong locations for the same item: *twice* Facepalm. So... Before you take a tool home from this rental department, start it and make good *#&$ damned sure it runs, before you get it home and waste half your day off. And for !&^*@'s sakes, check your rental receipt and contract to be sure that the extra protection you asked for is actually THERE. Double-check and triple-check their work. CYA, my friends. Had anything happened and that protection not been on there, I'd have been responsible for whatever fate befell it---to no fault of my own. Same thing happened with the last carpet shampooer I rented here. It crapped out halfway through the first room and would no longer function properly. I own plenty of power tools: gas, electric, rechargeable; pull-start, electric start; and I run them regularly without issue. Chainsaws. Mowers. Blowers. Weed-eaters. Trimmers. This particular tool from HD is a gas-powered edger, and it's a model I've used before. It was as if the engine wasn't getting a spark. I wasn't about to pull out my 5/8" plug socket or start troubleshooting a rental item, or looking to see if there were disconnected wires, or a clogged fuel line. Home Depot: never again. read more
