12/28/2020 -Focus: Tool Rental Department I decided to rent a cargo van to move misc stuff like files, photo albums, & small home exercise items that I was storing at my friend's home. I mean why waste the pros time on items like this? Popped into the Tool Rental area around 10:15 am yesterday after I spotted the cargo van I wanted in the parking lot. Employee informed me that it hadn't been serviced so it's not available for rent. Instead, I ended up with a 9' box truck. It was a cost effective option in a pinch so I went thru with the rental. $150 deposit and the fee for a 4 hour block would be deducted. No hidden fees. Remainder would be refunded in 3-5 bus days. My family was bewildered by the size of the truck. I immediately noticed the scratches on the outside which the staff member noted on his sheet but more importantly I noticed the Oil Change light glaring at me. Also, the inside was sticky & dirty with prior folks trash. Truck & Tool Rental may not be Home Depot's primary business however these vehicles are assets that should be maintained and cleaned after each rental especially during a global pandemic. *Additional star for the polite & helpful staff members in the Tool Rental department. read more

Let me first note that I am not a fan of Home Depot's corporate ownership, but I do support the employees and this store in particular. I have shopped at this Home Depot for home services (decorative) and general needs. Each time I have entered this store, I have been incredibly impressed with just how kind, helpful, professional, considerate, and friendly the staff are here. I went to another nearby Home Depot for assistance to only be given essentially the runaround, but when I visited this store, the person in drapes (Aristote) was phenomenal. He spent a considerable amount of time and was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, kind, and so customer-service oriented. I returned to the store after this visit, and I informed a manager of each of my experiences at the store so much so that I said I would write a review. It is hard to find smaller stores that provide such services as Home Depot, but I must stay that despite this being a large corporate entity, this store has a small town and friendly feel. I will continue shopping here when such needs arise. I want to recognize the staff at this store. Do not get your appliances at Home Depot. They send out appliances that have been packed damaged and do not want to exchange them or help you out. I received a dishwasher that had no damage to the outside box or the packaging and the door and inside were bent and they insisted I had to go through GE the manufacturer. GE service inspected it and found it had been damaged inside and the whole unit needs to be replaced. I'll never shop at Home Depot again. This is like the smallest homedepo i have ever visted although its a big area and the store seemed loaded but that they have is pretty much limited in varieties. I was looking for tiles and floor woods and to my shock what they have there were very limited and not abroad choice at all. I finally chose the flooring for our guest bedroom renovation so went to HD to place my order. The sales person I was directed to was engaged in conversation with three other employees. I patiently waited to get her attention. She turned to acknowledge me with a mouth so full of cookies that she couldn't talk at first. "I would like to place an order for flooring." Was how I introduced myself and my mission when I had her attention. I was acutely aware of the pungent smell of weed as we walked to the flooring I was asking to purchase. It took her a while to confirm the information that I had learned from the website. She made no offer to price or ring me up as she returned to her groupies to resume their conversation. I browsed around and when I left her crew was at the register chatting and laughing away with her bag of cookies making its disappearance one by one into her mouth. The smell of marijuana followed me all the way to the next Home Depot location... they did better but also are not getting my purchase. read more

I was dreading a trip to Home Depot, knowing what kind of Lack of Customer Service to expect. My expectations of poor Customer service were rewarded; but the price of items I needed out of the Garden Center were too good to ignore. You would think that on a warm sunny May morning Home Depot would have all check out lines in the Garden Center up and running; no they did not. To make matters even worse for the two lines that at times stretched 10 deep, there were plenty of employees asking to help load items into your cart or dolly or assist you in loading your car; but only two people running registers. One employee asked if I needed assistance with loading, my response of no; but how about running a register was met with a blank stare. Another Home Depot with poor customer service. read more

Employees are too busy, lazy, flirting with each other or goofing around or maybe they don't know anything about your questions or needs (working in that area), they throw the ball at each other. But if you have a lucky day (like winning the lottery) and they give you some information (installation or delivery of appliances), consider that the information is incorrect or incomplete. Of course, sooner or later you will have a problem that will cost you much more time and money because of that wrong advice. Let me tell you about the fantastic experience I had with Home Depot Kitchen Designer Ingrid. The sheer number of choices and decisions to be made when remodeling a kitchen can seem daunting, and it helps to have a knowledgeable designer to work with. I tried two other well known stores and didn't get the sense that the designers actually wanted to help design a kitchen. It was more of a rush to churn out a quick design with no nuance or tailoring to my needs. With Ingrid, she was friendly, patient, offered thoughtful ideas, and she clearly understands that details matter. During my three appointments with her to work on the design, I noticed how other staff interacted with her. She is clearly liked and respected. By the end, I felt good about the kitchen we designed together. I don't know if all Home Depot kitchen designers are like Ingrid, I just know she was an absolute gem! read more

I should have known better. 3 years later, and ain't a d_mn thing change! Employees hide from customers. No one ever answers the phone. I actually went in and ordered some cabinets and they were shipped to the store. The email had a "Pick up by ____" but I knew I wouldn't be there by this date. So the same email teasingly said, "Call the store if you need help." But it does not matter if I call the store at 6 am, 6 pm, 12 noon or any time in between--no on ever picks up. So I had to call the 800 #, and they called the store. This time the store picks up and puts me on hold for customer service! Once again, they don't pick up! So they transferred me back over to cabinets! I asked the woman if she could walk over to customer care and let them know I will pick up my order # on Sat Nov 18th, bc I really do not want it to get sent back! He was able to locate a pallet and directed the forklift driver to stop what he was doing to retrieve it. He directed me to drive to the back and he loaded into the car trunk for me. This Home Depot has OUTSTANDING customer service skills! They've apparently had training or it's mandatory that they speak and assist everyone, but any way you cut it, I was impressed. I was greeted by every single employee that I encountered! Not only was I greeted with a courteous smile, I was politely asked if I needed any assistance. I'm glad that the employees are eager to offer their assistance because I have no clue where I'm going when I enter into a hardware store, so the assistance is very helpful and welcomed. They also know where every item is located. Whatever I'm looking for, they can rattle off the aisle to find it and in most cases they take me to the item and go through my options with me. This review is for the garden department. The service is utterly horrible with the exception of an older gentleman that is very helpful. Otherwise for the hour I spent the 2 younger gentleman (20's) were completely oblivious to customers. They spent the entire time I was there playing with the music in their phones and practicing rhyming. And they often left the area entirely and always left together. Wth? When a staff member did track them down to help a customer they lazily shuffled to help as if they were being inconvenienced. Upon leaving I waited in the parking lot for 15 minutes with my trunk open needing help loading some soil. When one was finally tracked down he had an attitude. Then after he was done he had the nerve to leave my empty basket right there next to me instead of walking it back inside with him. Beware! Do NOT use Home Depot credit card or Home Depot store credit to make any purchase (especially any purchase that you may possibly have to return or exchange). Fine print buried in the credit card T&C allows Home Depot to refuse to accept any returns (vs typical VISA/Mastercard accounts which often include consumer protection), according to the HD "Coach." Even the Home Depot receipt warns "AVOID RECEIVING AND USING [HOME DEPOT] STORE CREDITS." Bizarre! but true. The Lanham manager told us that this is because criminals traffic in store credits and power tools, thus, we are presumed to be criminals (despite 20+ years as Home Depot customers and credit card users) if you try to return tools or anything purchased with a store credit. So, on top of horrendous service, flat-wrong advice and evasive managers, Home Depot serves good customers an extra helping of consumer fraud. We purchased $441 of tools last week and applied a $32 store credit to the purchase. It turned out that the tools were unnecessary, so we tried to return them two days later in the original, unopened packages. Home Depot refused to accept the returns because a "third party verification service" called The Retail Equation says that any purchase of tools with any amount of store credit is non-refundable because criminals traffic in Home Depot store credits and tools. Well, so does Home Depot! The Retail Equation blames Home Depot policy, and Home Depot blames The Retail Equation policy. This may have been the best customer service experience I've had at Home Depot or any other home improvement store. As soon as Otis saw us looking around lost, he immediately asked how he could help. He then helped us find the right grill. Once Tosin assisted with the rental, both he and Otis loaded the grill on the truck and secured it for us. I'm not a big fan of large hardware suppliers, especially Home Depot. Generally their staff is rude, unhelpful, and terribly uneducated about the products they sell. Heck, most of them don't even know their store's layout. This one, on the other hand, was like the anti-Home Depot. The store was brilliantly cleaned and organized. Even the picked-over Xmas-ware was neatly stacked and on sale. I can't say enough about the staff. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, that was a staff member greeted me as I walked by if s/he wasn't with a customer. Every question I had was answered, or the clerk found someone to assist me and get me the right information. There are two Home Depots that are closer to my home, but from now on, I'll be making the trek out to Lanham for my hardware needs! It should NOT take 30 + minutes from the time you hear "a customer needs assistance in lumber"over the store PA system before you have to go back to the customer service desk just to say that nobody has come to assist you. I have been to this store two days in a row to get a 4x4 cut to 48 inches so I can replace my mailbox post. Each time I've been told to wait and I have. Only to be told after the fact that there is nobody in the store "certified" to cut lumber. I'm sorry, but isn't that one of the reasons customers come to your store? If there are set hours that the "cutter" is on duty, post that somewhere so customers know and don't waste their time. Here's a thought, make sure your staff knows so when you go to customer service they can inform customers and save a lot of time and headaches. Ok I just wrote a review, and posted it about plumbing and a leaky valve. I showed the plumber the exact same picture I showed the people in the plumbing section at home depot. The plumber said all i had to do was tighten up some piece on the valve... The guy at home depot said its these old values they start leaking like that sometimes, and told me I had to cut some pipe and put a new valve in. I went over 24 hrs with out water,2 trips to home depot ( given wrong advice, and information both times) just to pay a plumber to no put in a n I spent about $40-$50 at home depot, and a plumbers bill. Don't call the pro desk. I just called and spoke to the Manager of the pro desk who told me I couldn't place an order because he had 5 people in front of him. So I asked to speak to another manager. Was just on hold and after a few minutes, the call hung up (I'm on a land line) Must be some pretty poor management there if the employees can just pick up a line and say "hang on" and put you back on hold. After speaking with someone at customer service that person just kept sending my call to the Pro desk where no one picked up and it was sent back to customer service. So for nearly 10 minutes the call was just transferred multiple times with no assistance. Finally after speaking with Mike, Junior gets back on the phone and rudely accepts my credit card payment because or electrician has already arrived. Avoid them if you can. I hate to think that I'm "That Guy." The one who complains about matters of taste. I complained to a store manager today about the music being played in a Home Depot store (MLK in Lanham, MD) Without naming names, I felt I was politely "blown off" by the manager after pointing out to her that the music was loud and ethnocentric. "We'll take note of it," she said, but her body language said, "who do you think you are?" Let's be clear, if the store was paying Jefferson Airplane loudly over the loudspeakers, or playing a German opera, I would have complained as well. I think it's inappropriate to play music from a genre specific to a particular ethnicity and demographic in a retail store. Common sense should tell a manager that hip hop is not for everyone. Loud hip hop is not for anyone...except the person with headphones plugged in. That's why loud music is restricted in most public places where people don't have an option to leave. I chose to leave. The "Blue Store", my other option in the area is more neutral in their choices. I felt as though the music in that Home Depot was chosen by and for the employees rather than the customers - the majority of whom were not the obvious demographic for that style and volume of music. Asked by an employee if I could "tune it out? I tried. But focusing on it to tune it out made me hear it more. Now let me be really clear - lest visions of some "red hat" comes to mind...I am a gray haired, African American man who likes Jazz, Pop, Classical, Reggae, World Music, and the like. I hate Hip Hop, but I tolerate it when I have to...like at a traffic light.
