Here in SoFlo, the climate and cycles of the year for gardening could not be more different. I've been to dozens of well managed nurseries and I have to say that Amelia's Smarty Plants is just unbelievable and amazing. Their plants are beautiful, well taken care of, and pruned to look fantastic. I've never seen so many different fiddle leaf figs in so many shapes and sizes, some huge! The plants are arranged from sunny to less sunny areas across the property, based on the shading of overhead sun/shade canopies. There's an indoor area with many great items, and an outdoor plant yard once you pass thru the building. Not to mention, they have an incredible selection of pots and they also have trays to match for them. I can't say enough good things about this nursery, and it is my goto place to buy plants. The only concern is that they don't take plant returns. I can see not taking plants back after a month or so and they've not been cared for well, but they may consider a 1 or 2 week window for plant returns. I mean sometimes a plant just doesn't look right when you get it home.

I visited during one of their Coco mini's, the 3rd Sunday of some months. There were several local vendors and a food truck. There were photo ops and tables where you could make friendship bracelets and terrariums. There were also local speakers. I especially enjoyed the presentation about natural skin care. There is a tremendous selection of tropical plants, trees, flowers, and bushes. Inside they have a great selection of garden related merchandise.

He pointed us to a young Hispanic woman who appeared to be overworked, but who ended up being very pleasant and knowledgeable. We told her what we were looking for in regards to types of plants and she quickly narrowed down our thoughts to three or four different options. We then went to look at the plants. They all appeared to be healthy and well cared for. The pricing was extremely Competitive. The same young lady did come over to help us load, she's absolutely amazing! We went back a week or so later for additional plants, we were happy with the quality and the pricing for sure. This time the owner was a little more talkative. We will go back again in the future, just don't let the owner make you feel like you don't need to spend your money there.

I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated with my experience here. I bought a bougainvillea plant…read moreabout 6 weeks ago, and it's now completely dead--destroyed by a severe infestation of worms. This was the only plant on my balcony, so there's absolutely no way the infestation came from anywhere else but the store. To make matters worse, a friend of mine bought a similar trellis bougainvillea from this same place the same week, and guess what? Hers had worms too. This clearly points to a problem with the plants they're selling. Even more upsetting, my cat ended up getting sick after coming into contact with the worms--leading to a $400 vet bill. I brought the dead plant back in hopes they would at least take some responsibility, offer a refund, an exchange, or help nurse the plant back to health. Instead, all they did was offer a systemic treatment, and made no guarantees or effort to ensure the plant was actually healthy. This was such a disappointing and costly experience--both financially and emotionally. I won't be shopping here again, and I highly recommend others think twice before purchasing plants from here without carefully checking for pests.

The Garden Hole is the cutest garden store. It is located among the shops and restaurants on Lake…read moreAvenue. I was drawn into the store by the unique and creative planters displayed outside. As soon as I entered I was cheerfully greeted but then left free to explore. Inside they sell an assortment of succulents, cacti, and flowering plants. They have a build your own succulent bar where you choose a pot and add in the succulents you like. Small pots were between 10 and 15 dollars. They also sell mugs, cups, and plant misters. The disco ball hanging planter was my favorite. You can even spot the magical unicorn that is protecting the property. There are funny sign everywhere that elicit a chuckle. The Garden Hole makes me want to plant something.
