I love Home Depot and I have been and will continue to be a loyal customer. However, I want to report on a terrible experience because I don't think the treatment I received was right. I came to the Northville, MI location with my partner on Thursday 6.13.24. We needed to purchase ten 2x12x8 pressure treated boards. We saw online there were 77 in stock. Hurried home from work, borrowed a car and arrived around 6:30 pm. There were about 13 boards in the bay and we sifted through all of them. 5 were solid and the remaining 8 had issues. Large knots, cracks, one had a hunk taken out of it and others had pretty serious mangled edges. Above the bay there was a stack but not one we could reach ourselves.  My partner went to ask an associate for assistance and this is when things went wrong. The person that responded to assist us approached in a pretty unfriendly way. No greeting and asked, "How many do you need?" We tell him nicely that we need 5 more. His response, "I'm not getting it down for 5." He went on to tell us after looking at 1 (a single 1) that the remaining 8 were fine. It was clear that this person had the opinion that we should settle for the mangled remaining pieces and that was that. He repeated numerous times that he was not going to "get it down for 5." Another staff came by and said, is there room to get it down? He said, "Yeah there's room, but I'm not getting it down for 5." At that point I said, "Ok, so you have them in stock (I see them 4 feet above me), you have the staff and equipment available to assist me in getting them down, you have the room to place them in the bay, but you're not willing to help me?" I asked if I could talk to a manager and the person walks away to have the conversation so I didn't hear what he said. He came back and told me it's "Store policy" to sell what they have before new ones could be taken down and shelved. What it comes down to is this employee had the opinion that my partner and I should settle for the damaged pieces bc to him they were "fine." This is clear in how he approached us from the start. I know customer service is hard work though I feel like this person (tall, Caucasian male, slim, bald/buzzed hair, 7 pm in the lumber dept) was just meansprited. He could have helped us but did not want to. And if it is your store policy as he said, can you show me where it says that? Plus he was insulting and said, "You're not going to get a perfect piece." We know that. We did not have unreasonable expectations. My partner has made many things over the years, our bed, entire deck, entertainment center and counter, flower boxes. We simply didn't want the mangled pieces other people had clearly looked over and left as well.  The wood is needed for picnic tables and a memorial flower garden for a remarkable person who passed at 57, we are working on in Southwest Detroit. We ended up driving to a HD in a different city and had no issue. Instead of a 1 hour trip, it turned into 3 bc Northville was a barrier, but we got what we needed. (Following this up by writing a 5 star review for the staff that helped me at the other HD store we had to go to.) read more

Store seems clean 9/10 times we are here. No long lines.. self check out is being promoted here and most machines are card only.. It can be a challenge trying to find someone to help you tho .. & in addition to that getting questions answered most of the employees have some knowledge but it's retail they are not the pro's. I think most customers are contractors or already know what they need. about half of the time someone asks if we are finding things okay. and 1/4 of the time do they have the answers to the questions.. it's easier to google something or look it up on the home depot app the app will actually tell you what isle and bay something is in read more

The best time to go is 1st thing in the morning if you don't want to stand in line or deal with crowds. However, there is less staff on hand to help you find things or answer questions. They carry just about what you would imagine - almost everything that a home depot/home improvement store would carry/ They have the best prices for buying in bulk, especially items the items for landscaping. But when you go in there, you better know what you want or you'll be overwhelmed/sidetracked. read more

As I was heading to the self-service cash register and I was about 3 feet from The counter and in an angle clearly shows where I was heading to a worker ran towards me yelling "where is your receipt", I looked at her and she was like a hero caught a thief or proud of her actions, I tried to ignore her and noticed my wife was calling me from the paint department to go back, which I did do across back to the pain department and picked up some tape. Then I started heading back to the register, by the time I hit $444,43 cents I was happy and laughing telling my wife I need an item for a penny mockingly. There was a cashier next to me and came to help me in ringing the rest of the stuff, which was fine, until that first one came back to me and frappes an item from my cart that was an abused box that although my wife said leave it and pick a new one when I put it in the cart but I said it's ok, we will use it right away and will trough the box away anyway. That cashier opened it and started to look into it and when she saw that my mood changes she closed it and was fine. I was not fine, I was furious. Why was she suspicious of me walking to the cash register not the door, and now was suspicious of a box that I might of head something in it. And I told her you came to inspect, then be my guest and inspect the box well. Take everything out and check it out. And I told her if she doesn't do that I'm not going to buy anything. She wouldn't do that so I asked her 'M--y' to take the cart and I went ahead and payed for my drink and asked another person to call the manager at that time which was G-----. When he came he of course tried to defend her and pulled some excuses out of nowhere. I don't agree with his excuses as we get stuff from Home Depot like daily. At the end I told him that she never offered and apology at anytime and not yet and she was standing like 3 feet from us listing to the complaint. Very rude person that I'm not used to from Home Depot. This place is going down hill specially when a head cashier acts this way With no manners or customer service skills. read more

Well I should have checked yelp before coming to this store. An average of 2 stars, not surprised. Lazy employees standing around telling stories about their kids birthday instead of helping customers. At what point does the store manager step in to right the sinking ship? We asked for help with shelving and they respond, " yeah we will get you someone." No one ever shows up. Shame on us, this was our second trip here. We moved from out of state and will be purchasing many "hardware" items for our new home. I am choosing ace hardware from now on. They are responsive, knowledgeable and want to help. Again, the worst place to shop of the 4 stores nearby. The isles are full of holiday stuff so carts of materials are hard to navigate. The contractor entrance makes you push your empty lumber cart inside and thru the one checkout lane that is open at the time. Why this location hasn't been made to work like the others is beyond me. Staff tries but you can see the defeat in their look when they have to say "we seem to be out of that" My 2024 resolution is to not give this place another chance and just drive down the road to the other 3 nearby. read more

What should have been a painless process ended up being anything but painless. I placed an order via the Home Depot app, and opted for customer pickup at the Northville Home Depot. I received both an email and a text message at 9 am stating that my order was "ready for pickup at the Customer Service desk". I arrived at the store at 10:15 am, and after waiting in line several minutes was finally able to receive service from one of the associates. After giving him my order number, he proceeded to tell me that it would be several more minutes before I would receive my item because "it's waaaay in the back on a top shelf, and someone will have to get it down." I found that to be both inconvenient and off-putting because I had been told that my order was "ready for pickup at the Customer Service desk". Nonetheless, I waited approximately five more minutes before a very unenthused young man brought my order to me. Unfortunately, the order I was given was an open box item. The sad part is that no one even attempted to hide the fact that it was an open box item because the flaps on the top of the box were sticking up. I now had to take the item back to the gentleman that originally assisted me and instruct him that I had ordered a new, unopened item and that the open box was not acceptable. The added wait times in addition to the lack of customer service regarding the product served to add to my consternation. The employee was at a complete loss as to what to do to make things right, which would have been to simply provide me with an item in an unopened box. Instead, he went to another associate and asked what he should do. At this point, I've now been in the store for 15 minutes when, in fact, I should have been in and out in no more than five minutes. As the associate came back, he told me that he would request another item in an unopened box. I then asked him how long it would take because my wife and I had an appointment at 11 am, and I had spent far too much time in the store already. He responded with, "I can't tell you how long it will take. What do you say I give you this one and if it doesn't work you can just bring it back?" His response was rather unbelievable, and showed a complete lack of customer service skills. First, to tell a customer that was previously told that their order was ready when in fact it wasn't, and had been waiting far too long already that, "I can't tell you how long it will take", was very upsetting. Second, to suggest, "What do you say I give you this one and if it doesn't work you can just bring it back?", was like a slap in the face regarding how inconvenient that could have been to me. Fundamentally, instead of focusing on trying to create a good customer experience this gentleman was simply trying to get me out the door. At this point, I had enough, and I wasn't going to inconvenience myself any further. Therefore, I requested a full refund, and left the store. The good news is that the lack of customer service, and the lack of a customer-centric approach at this store caused me to shop elsewhere. Consequently, I found & purchased the item from Amazon. As a result of our experience, neither my wife or I would recommend ever using the order pickup option at this or any Home Depot. Rather, save yourself the trouble of having to stand in line, deal with poor customer service, and get frustrated, and simply order from Amazon & have it delivered to your house for free. read more

This place is a joke. Not a good joke, but a terrible joke. In early October, 2022, we ordered materials to remodel two bathrooms and were given a one-month estimate for their arrival. The two vanity cabinets and two toilets did not arrive until the beginning of December - nearly a TWO MONTH WAIT. BOTH of the vanities were damaged; BOTH of the toilets were defective. The vanities were re-ordered and we went to the store to purchase a non-defective toilet so our contractor could install it. Home Depot refused to pick-up the two defective toilets. The replacement vanities arrived on January 2, 2023. One of them was defective and had to be re-ordered, further delaying our project by an additional 2-4 weeks. We are now trying to get the counters made but have not yet heard from the company that handles the measurement and installing. At the current rate, it will be at least February, 2023 before this project can be completed. Every time we call for answers, we have to start from scratch trying to explain things to a new person who never can determine what's going on. RUN, don't walk away from doing business with Home Depot. They are AWFUL. read more

Giving them 1 start for the customer service I just received on the wood cutting section. Whoever your "carpenter" is, he was swearing up a storm with another employee, when I approached him. I stood there and had to cut the employees conversation short so they can pay attention to me. When I asked about how I could get a piece of wood cut, I was given a lecture about how they're not a carpentry here and how I should buy my own saw to cut wood. Why do you guys provide the option to cut wood if you're going to complain about doing it. It's literally one piece that I'm having cut btw. The employee then tells me to bring the piece to the saw if I wanted it cut. Zero assistance in bringing the piece down. You don't address your customers with "what do you want guy" and "here you go guy". We all work, we all know how to treat customers. Get your act together or don't show up to work. No one wants any negative energy or to feel unwelcome especially when they're your customer. Be thankful you're working when there are thousands unemployed right now. read more

This particular Home Depot is quite clean and in a pretty nice area where you would feel a sense of safety. Parking lot is humongous as well we the Home Depot itself. If you need anything for the house or yard this place will probably have what you are looking for (as long as it is newer items). The older items you may want to visit a more Mom & Pop hardware store! Self-checked out and no one bothered us, so can't say anything about the workers. Easily found what we were looking for and then we left. No fuss no muss! read more

This Home Depot in particular has been by far my favorite for the last 20 years from every department everybody has knowledge. The manager Mike Will go out of his way to make sure I am happy with most respect for the store policy. I am beyond angry. I scheduled my appliances on 7/13 to be delivered to my home today 8/18. I got the phone call yesterday from the distribution center that my order would be delivered between 8-11 And I would get a phone call 30 minutes prior to them coming. I didn't hear from them so I called, they tell there We're too many items on the truck so I have to be rescheduled and earliest is August 28! I am moving into a new home that currently doesn't have any applianbed. I scheduled this 1 month prior. I need my appliances before I move into my home this weekend. I ordered top of the line LG washer and dryer on May 30. The delivery was for today between 1:30 and 5:30. I have now been sitting in my empty house (don't move in until next week) for 7 hours. Have tried the automated tracking system, what a joke has not been updated since 1 pm when I first checked it. No one answers the phone. Absolute shit customer service. 3 stars because I can always find what I'm looking for & some staff are very nice (lady in garden center was super nice today). I did a self-check out for one appliance bulb. I asked one of the two ladies there, who were chit chatting about the orthotics in their shoes, if the bulb I bought would be ok for my stove vent light. She paged someone. I stood there for five minutes & left. I'm not used to that kind of customer service. If you can chit-chat during work hours, I think one of them could've gone to get someone to help me and test out the orthotics in her shoes. #smh Btw, the store was pretty empty @ 10:37 am. read more

Made a special trip on a Sunday evening to Home Depot on Haggerty. They are supposed to be open until 8PM on Sundays. When approaching the entrance at 7:12PM, a worker who was collecting carts said that the store was already closed. I explained that the hours are supposed to be until 8PM, and he said that they were closing early for a store Christmas party, and he was turning away lots of shoppers. Cannot believe that they would have a store party during the hours the store is supposed to be open. Tried to call the store to inquire, but after several calls, nobody was answering. I will shop at Lowes or Menards from now on. read more

They have a new special to offer everyone at this Northville location: Free covid19 for everyone! Yes, the brain trust there has decided it does not need to enforce their employees wearing the necessary mask while they are working there. And its optional for customers too! I called the store manager, and their lame response was they have 150 employees there and cant watch them all. I said with all the managers and dept heads, they need to make time to watch them all and should be enforcing this rule. Its just a matter of getting out and walk the floor more. Your employees are contributing to the deadly problem and everyone's anxiety. And for those workers that are allergic to a certain mask, have them wear a cotton bandana! Find something or find somewhere else to work!! This is a deadly disease with no cure. Truly shameful they don't care enough about their workers or customers to enforce the rules. A cashier last night actually looked right past me and offered to help the man in line behind me. Are you serious? He completely ignored me. The laughed at me when I said I was next. You have right to demand good service and you get it at this store. The best thing any customer can do to improve any where they shop is to take a few minutes to write a note to the management of the store and let them know when an associate was representing that business they way that made you feel of value. The employees were nice, but my problem is with the blower I bought at this particular store. An Echo blower with a 5 year guarantee. I returned it to the store because it wouldn't start, but then I was told I had to go to the Middlebelt store for repairs. Again, employees were very nice. But they told me they had to ship it to Indiana. Finally 3 weeks later I get a response they can fix it for $179. Wish I would've been told how long it would've taken and how much it would've cost even with the guarantee. Very dissatisfied with Echo's warantee. Probably going to try Menard's. Been coming to Home Depot for years but just feel abandoned at this point. read more

Ordering was easy but they out sourced it and that was a pain because the installers refused to move any furniture which I thought was included, they started to leave and I had to beg them to stay while my boyfirend and I moved it and they watched. Went there today (July 4th) to buy a dishwasher. When I asked that the 5% discount be applied because I was using my Home Depot credit card, the girl in that department gave me some confusing story. First she said NO. Then she gave me a another story about financing. So I left. I got home to tell my husband and he explained that if u pay the item off on or before the bill is due u get 5% off. I knew that going in. But refused to get into a drawn out policy about a company with one of their own employees. I truly wonder why she assumed people need financing. I could of put it on the card and paid it off like we wanted to. My husband is a contractor and we get 5% off just on all other items when we go through the check out lane. But you have to say: 5% please. So off to Lowes we go tomorrow. Having just called and confirmed that they will give me the 5% off and the sale price. Home Depot has 0 perks for credit card holders that have ex- cellent credit. Clearly they hire people who don't care if a sale is made or not. If they had to work on commission I bet that would set a fire under their britches. Been in customer service for 32 yrs and it always amazes me. Good Luck Home Depot! read more
