This is the closest Home Depot from downtown Providence, so we went to get some information on wood stains for our beach cottage. There was only one guy in the paint department and he was busy helping others and seemed a bit overwhelmed. Still, he was able to answer a few questions we had regarding the stains. The other departments are basically the same as any other Home Depot, but maybe a tad smaller than some of the suburban locations. The service is not as good as other locations, but I overall is not bad. Basic customer service. Dear Yelp, PLEASE PRINT THIS REVIEW FOR PUBLIC VIEWING THIS TIME: I had the BEST customer service from an employee named Andres Andujar. I made sure to get his full name, because his help was over the phone, and he was great. If all people were this friendly and helpful over the phone, the world would be a better place. Not only did he answer all my questions, he also suggested I take down the 9-digit item numbers of two of the products I was asking about. The store did not have the items in stock, but Andres told me these numbers so that I could find them easily online. If there was a question he couldn't answer, he took the time to look up, A) whether they were in the store, and B) when they would be delivered if I ordered online. Andres even gave me the dates for delivery to the store vs delivery to my apartment. Based on the products I was ordering, he also thanked me for trying to help the environment! Recently, with another company (not Home Depot) I had the opposite phone experience and realized how rare and wonderful good telephone customer service is. Sometimes, how you talk to someone can either be "the final straw" in a person's life or "the uplifting connection". I have a feeling that Andres is the latter in all his connections. I made a big purchase on Saturday of materials needed for a job. paid for everything in cash. spoke to two employees about picking up some of the products within another day. Typical big box Home Depot. I came in looking for a new light for inside my shower, specifically a Halo water-rated surface mount LED light, and a mogul bass three-way light bulb for a 60 year old lamp I have which the Home Depot website told me was in the store. Looked for the water proof light in the light bulb area since there were a few Halo LED can lights there. Nope. Couldn't find the mogul base bulbs either - the the clerk in that aisle assured me they were on a pallet somewhere in the store, but that he didn't know where the pallet was or how to find it. Looked in the lighting display aisles. Nope. There were a few can lights on the last aisle, where I would never have thought to look without the help of a second sales clerk. This one, who was working in the lighting display area had never heard of an LED marked safe for wet areas. Once he helped me find the aisle with the LED can lights, I myself found a box marked as a 'showerlight" - with no indication if it was safe to use in wet spaces. Until today I've always preferred Home Depot to Lowe's or anywhere else for that matter. I own a construction company and have probably spent over $30,000 there in the last 30 days (So I do a fair amount of business with them). Yesterday I went to the Providence location to look at buying a new Weber Grill. I noticed that one of the nicest Weber grills was on sale for 50% off ($1,699 down to $850). when I went to purchase it I was told they were out of stock at that location. I asked the customer service person to check nearby stores for it. She was able to find 6 at the Warwick location. I then asked her to call and have one put aside for me since I'm a commercial pro xtra customer. When I get to Warwick and look at the grill, I see that the price in Warwick is still $1,699, so I asked for the sale price and showed the manager the white sale tag from providence. I was then told that it was a clearance item in providence but not one in Warwick so the price is the regular price. I showed the manager the the tag was actually a white sale tag and not a yellow clearance tag and that the price should be honored. I was told it was probably a mistake and if I wanted to buy the grill it would be the full price. I left rather upset and very unhappy. unfortunately even though I use to prefer Home Depot over Lowe's, I will not never shop at Home Depot again since this is how they show they value there larger commercial pro xtra customers or any customer for that matter. I did order pick-up recently for the first time at this location. After I checked in I waited over an hour for my order. First the person helping me couldn't get in contact with the person that should be available to grab the orders. Second she fail to realize that it was already there... So they had me wait an hour for an order that was literally on the counter. Completely disorganized and recommend you choose another location. read more

I was able to find here so many things that really helped and made things easier. Here is a tip: Buckets. This rating is just for the paint department. Seems like most of the time they don't know what to do and people around me have left or complained. I've been waiting for 45 mins at the same spot and there's only one person working. There needs to be 2 or more people on deck because customers have many questions or needs that may take more than 10 minutes per person. Although I have been waiting, I have also been skipped over for people who came after me and usually I'm just waiting for a simply question to be answered or a quick service. I love their garden center, their selection of hardware, the lawnmower aisle and the tools, the TOOLS!!!!! They have sharpies, weed wackers, shrubberies, chairs, doors, glue, grills, toilies, shelving, storage bins.... basically anything and everything you could ever possibly need for your household. Whichis what brings me to a few words of caution: prepare a list before you come, because this place is massive and I have, on occasion, become overwhelmed and forgotten most of what I came in for. I love love love how organized it is, the smell of the lumber being cut, and the copious options displayed so beautifully. It's remarkably clean for a Home Depot... and for a hardware store, in general. The one drawback? The staff. Some are great, some or morons... and you usually have to seek out both for assistance. read more

They didn't have 2 tools I needed so I asked a employee if I could go to providence RI and exchange the two tools I didn't want for the ones I needed. He said YES. Seems pretty simple right? I get to providence had to talk to 4 different employees and was there over a hour trying to explain what was going on. After opening all the boxes and talking to me disrespectfully like I didn't just leave attleboro was crazy to me. After everything checked out they said I couldn't return it or exchange it because of a third party block? . So I went back to attleboro and I was told again that I cannot exchange even though I bought the set from the store 30 mins ago. BLEEECHHHH. I just bought a home, so I've become a frequent patron of HD. And this location is as gruesome as can be. It's a HD, so they have all the STUFF you need. It's the customer service and the sense of product knowledge that's lacking. I've used it for projects around my house and classroom, for plants and flowers, and to order custom blinds. I have had miserable experiences all around. I can't ever seem to find assistance when I need it, and whenever I manage to corral someone for help, they promptly pass me off to someone else, but instruct me to wait where I am. Then, I wait another ten minutes and get scolded by someone for not being where they were told I was. Um...what? Many a time, I have to explain products to employers and tell them how much things cost...not. my. job. Often, in order to expedite an interaction, I fill the employees in on information I was given on an earlier trip and explain that something is sold out or backordered. Again, I shouldn't be running the store. On my most recent trip, I was ignored at customer service for 15 minutes before being told they didn't know how to get my custom order. I decided to do some shopping and come back when maybe someone else would be there. Cue being ignored for another 15. How about "I'm sorry, I'm not trained in this/handling a computer, why don't I go get a manager for you". That would be lovely but it's apparently out of the question for the employees here. The custom blinds I ordered were too big to fit into my car, so I asked to see a manager to see how we could troubleshoot the problem. Keep in mind that I've already paid a hefty installation charge...why I would need to pick it up myself is beyond me. The manager who came, Keisha, is literally the only reason this is a 2 star review rather than a 1. While they still had to charge me another 35 dollars for an installer pickup, this manager was polite, friendly, professional, and coached the staff at customer service through the process and reminded them to be attentive to customers. However, the second she stepped away from the process, chaos ensued again. Another manager shows up and suddenly the charge jumped from 35 to 50. Keisha stepped back in to save the day yet again and waived the fee, but I honestly started to wonder if I was on Candid Camera. In conclusion, this location needs some serious help in the customer service/being a human department. Have Keisha run some professional development sessions for the employees, or hire more people like her. She is literally the only redemption in a sea of bad experiences here. read more

If you own a home, you probably already know that you will be visiting HD or one of it's competitors again, and again and again. Due to the fact that this particular location is very close to our new home, we happen to be here almost every weekend buying paint, painting supplies, gardening stuff, and other necessities for a new home. Now, I have had some very good experiences and some very bad ones at this particular HD location, hence the three stars. First off, there is one very good paint dept worker and one very bad (or at least miserable looking) one. I won't name names, but it's very hit or miss on service and friendliness. I have also met quite a few people in this HD that do not understand pretty basic questions about products that I believe every HD probably carries. Not sure if this was a language barrier, if it just wasn't their dept, or what the problem was, but we ended up having to look through the whole warehouse to find what we needed because the person we asked had no clue and didn't direct us to someone who did. So, I can't say that we won't be back, because that would be a lie. What I can say is, is that this is not the cleanest, most organized, or most friendly location that I've been to. It is, on the other hand, the most convenient location and that tend to have most of what I need, when I need it. read more

I just called into home depot to ask if they carry a specific plant. I told the initial person I had a question about what plants they carry & I was promptly & efficiently transferred to that department... at that point this felt like it was going to be an easy call. the plant I wanted to know about was a common dwarf norfolk pin. norfolk pines pop-up around this time every year & I know I'll be needing one this year. I asked the next person to pick up the phone if he had any norfolk pines in yet. the associate sounded like he was in a daze & had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. he told me they have pine trees and I corrected him, I need a "dwarf norfolk pine", "it's a variety of tree that is often sold around this time of year". between sentences and at this point I'm starting to notice and become distracted by the managerial screaming in the background... the associate now sounds hopelessly lost but I kinda can't blame him. I called in with the question and all the shouting has me feeling discombobulated. there's now noticeably NO conversational flow between myself and the associate... then suddenly the voice changes. it's now female and clearly the screamer. the screamer is clearly more knowledgeable, but now she's screaming at her associates on the phone and IN MY EAR! I got what information I could... but man, this woman sounds like someone's boss from hell. my ear is still ringing. read more

At 9pm the night before my reservation (after the store closed), they sent an email saying they CANCELED MY RESERVATION. In other words, they royally screwed our move and told us about it just hours before our rental appointment. As Seinfeld said, they can make a reservation, they just can't keep a reservation. Dear Home Depot, I am updating my previous review to drop your rating to ONE star. The reason for down grading the rating is that after all the stuff that has gone on with my previous post, I have received TWO defective refrigerators. The first had three scratches with two on the front. The second refrigerator is unable to cool or even freeze ice. It appears the compressor is not working properly. To me, this points to the conclusion, that Home Depot is not able to deliver working equipment. One might go as far to say that Home Depot is unable to treat their inventory well before it gets to its customers. I was told the the scratches were fairly common because forklift operators are not careful enough. But looking at the delivery off the truck, I did not see any protective box around the unit, ONLY plastic wrap. Now after receiving the second refrigerator, I am starting to believe that Home Depot does NOT have the proper controls to maintain good shipments or that their employees do not care enough. Madiha (my roommate and spunky friend), my mother and I walk into home depot DESPERATE for screws and nails. Little did we know would we be in contact with home depot's finest employee. Never had I ever witnessed such a dedicated worker. As we searched endlessly for the screw that would match the missing link to our ikea bed frame (fuck ikea) Allen stocked shelves. I asked my mother if we should ask for help, for we couldn't find a match to the missing screw. There he was, as I walked down the aisle of the tool section towards Allen, I imagined walking down the aisle of St. Patrick's Cathedral. "Hi we need a screw that fits this piece." Allen fit our heart. As we looked through the dozens of shapes and sizes of screws we couldn't stop staring at Allen. We then realized although we came here for screws, we left with more. Alan's absolutely tantalizing energy toyed with our emotions. As he pretended to not care about what we had to fix he helped us tremendously. Once he offered a 49$ power drill for $25 we knew something was up. As strong women we refused his offer. As Kelly Clarkson said "Hey Hey Hey, Walk away". That's exactly what we did. We walked away from this deal and a half. Even though we left with screws and no drills, we left with a full heart. Thank you, Allen. read more

I bought a Rheam Hot Water tank from Home Depot. The tank came with a 6 year warranty I also purchased the extended Home Depot warranty for an additional 5 years. The hot water tank blew less then 15 months of purchasing it. I called Rheam they never called back, I called Home Depot they said to go to the store as I could not find my receipt for the extended warranty. I went to the store and spoke to the manager on duty Jim G, he solved all my issues..... Long story short Home Depot will be coming out in the next 2 days to remove, and install my brand new hot water tank! Thank You Jim G for all your help! read more

Unfortunately, I end up here a lot. I find the service to be the most unbearable part of the experience. No, male employee, I do not need help. I don't need it in this aisle either. Yes, I understand the numbers on the steel wool packages and I know how to calculate how much lumber I need and I know which kinds of screws I want and I don't care if *you* think the other kind is good enough. No, I really didn't think you'd know what a mortise latch is...and frankly I wasn't expecting to find it here, either, but since you INSISTED... No, male employee, I still don't need help. Not in THIS aisle either. Nor in the next one. Tell all your aggressively patronizing coworkers, and while you're at it, tell all the male customers too. Really I know what I'm doing. I know it hurts your head to imagine this. But it's true. I never have these nauseating experiences at independent hardware stores. Somehow, employees at those tend to be friendly and helpful but not overbearing or patronizing just because I'm a little lady in a skirt and heels. But props to the several female employees who have managed to be awesome and complement my dress and then ask me about my project with genuine interest and respect. Y'all rock. And of course, being a big box store, the products here are mostly low-quality and generic stuff. You won't find specialty stuff. You won't find heirloom tools. Don't expect the stuff you buy here to last. But it has like..cheapo.plastic sheeting for covering your fridge when you paint the kitchen, and a giant wall of lightbulbs in 999999-piece packs, and big buckets for like two dollars, and that sort of thing. Over the past month I have shopped at this Home Depot 5 times to get things for an apartment, yard and small garden. Each time I've had a great experience. I have had no trouble finding someone to help me and everyone I have dealt with there has been very pleasant. Two outstanding experiences were with a man in the garden center who gave me good advice on plants to buy to attract bees to my garden. Another good experience was with a guy who helped me get some bulky/heavy things (a small BBQ, bags of top soil, charcoal) into a cart and then into a small car. The person who helped me with the BBQ, etc, I later found out was the manager of the store. It seems to me that he is managing the store well given I've had good experiences. In some ways I would rather support a smaller hardware store or plant nursery (I used to work at a family owned hardware store) but the fact that Home Depot is open outside normal business hours and usually has everything I need I keep going back (happily so far). read more

On Sunday (8/5/18), my dad and his friends went to Home Depot to buy supplies (specifically several pieces of wood) to fix our front porch. He went to the counter located in the lumber department to pay for the supplies where he and his friends were treated terribly by a cashier named Linda. My dad had inserted his credit card into the machine to pay and the machine kept declining his card. He told me that the cashier was giggling at him as if she was satisfied that his payment didn't go through. My dad then reached for his wallet to pay in cash but realized he had left his wallet at home in another pair of pants. Each of my dad's friends had started to go and find their wallets since they felt bad that he had left his at home and that was when, according to my dad, that Linda started looking at him and his friends as if they were trying to steal the supplies they were going to buy. Eventually, one of my dad's friends gave their credit card to the cashier and paid for everything. When my dad got home he was very upset and told me and my mother what had happened and he also called his bank to make sure that his credit card was working (which btw the bank told him that the card was totally fine but the Home Depot credit card machine in the lumber department was not working). I called the manager right away and complained to him about what had happened and he told me that he would talk to her right away. My father and his friends have decided that they will never return to this location because of what happened. For anyone who is reading my review, make sure not to go on Sunday morning and pay for your purchases with Linda - especially if you are a Latino. Better yet, I hope that you will decide to go to another Home Depot location or other home supply store to make your purchases instead. read more

I placed a large online order, rented a truck, found a babysitter during Covid and went to PROV (30 minutes from my home) to pick up my materials. Upon arrival I waited 30 minutes and was then informed that my materials were sold and there were no more in stock. I was refunded and left because I was furious. I called when I returned home and asked for them to call another Home Depot and pick up the $80 shipping fee but they have been playing phone tag with me. Really bad experience with order. Place an order had called in to confirm the order after I had placed it. When i did call in to confirm order I was asked to call back as system was down. I did call back and was told there was an issue getting order to the dispatch I held while they corrected it i was told it was all set. I called back the next day to make sure it was and they had the order but the wrong delivery date. The rep corrected it and now I call the day before the delivery date and I am told my order was canceled and they can't get me the price I paid for the refrigerator and they also can't tell me why it was canceled. I want to start off this review by saying I walk in and purchase material at a Lowe's or Home Depot about 3x a week on average. I am disgusted with the customer service I receive everytime I step into this store. No cares about their job to help anybody. The contractors provide more help to random people than the staff. Please do yourself a favor and go an extra 10 minutes to another location or a Lowe's. I have given this store numerous times to change my mind and it never gets better. I spend a lot of money in this store and I will now go out of my way to give it to someone else, even if I have to pay more for it. read more
