Like many mega-retail establishments such as this, the chances of roller coaster experiences in customer service are high. There are good days and bad days, the key is a high number of good days by ratio for survival. I bought an affordable BBQ from The Home Depot during the summer of 2016. I read online reviews while in the store actively researching, which proved quite helpful. But more importantly, I was in a desperate hurry... on the way to a wedding reception! I found the 'best bang for the buck' on a BBQ and scouted an associate to load the box onto a cart. I got lucky, he was present, stocking shelves. He offered up some help that saved future gratuitous profanity, they assemble many of these units and park them out front! I looked, found the one I wanted, paid and asked my wife to swing the rig around to the front. Oh, did I mention it was raining? I mean pouring, buckets?? Yes indeed, a silly summer storm dumping inches of rain and destroying humidity records. I find that the BBQ will not fit into the back of our SUV with the side shelves intact. Did I mention it was raining? I ask the associate if there's any way she can find a screwdriver so we can remove a side shelf, and her reaction was curious. I thought this was going to be another situation where the old stereotype of Home Depot associates dodging customers came true. But guess what? She went in, got a screwdriver off the shelf, grabbed another associate, and they proceeded to take the shelf off the BBQ for me... IN... THE... RAIN... Yes, it happened, I was there! They helped me load it, saved every bolt, and never once complained about the task. I was truly, blown away. I read The Home Depot book written by its founders describing the origins of the home improvement giant several months earlier by coincidence. And as a customer service and marketing aficionado myself, I loved the stories about associates going way out of their way to help customers. But was it all true? The answer is yes, on this occasion it was. It's easy for all of us to bitch about poor service, but this time I'm happy to expound to the contrary. read more

I'm very disappointed in the level of customer service I received today at the Redding Home Depot. I went to check out, all signs above were labeled "self checkout". It was not visibly clear that there was someone, ONE employee, checking out customers. I observed the self checkout machines, multiple are labeled "Card Only" with a sign underneath the machine, which I was a cash paying customer. I walked over to other self checkout machines that did not have anything specified on them. I started scanning my items and attempted to pay, it was not accepting my cash. After several failed attempts, we asked what we were doing wrong. A woman comes over and says, with an attitude, "because it doesn't accept cash. It said card only on the screen" My response "well, I walked around and you have machines that clearly state card only and this one did not say card only when I walked up to it." She then replied, again, with attitude, "you must have come up right after someone then." So she canceled it out, printed off a receipt and moved to another machine. After several attempts, this particular machine was also not accepting my cash payment. She takes my cash and exchanges it for smaller bills. Then we ask if it is just all self checkout now. Another girl says, as if it is apparent that there is someone at a register "no, this girl right here is checking out customers" and walks away from me. This particular employee was on a machine that appeared to be a "self checkout" machine under another sign that stated "self checkout". I've worked in retail, I get it's tough more days than not and I've worked in customer service for 10+ years. It could have been very simple. When asked what we were doing wrong with the cash, the response could have been "oh, more times than not it does specify on the screen that this particular machine is card only. I'm sorry about the confusion, you may have walked up right after someone. Let me cancel this out with a receipt so we can just scan it over here at this one and you won't have to scan your items again." If you don't like your job, maybe consider finding a different one where customer service isn't the majority of your job. It's not difficult to be kind and assist someone. read more

Home Depot was like "my best friend". They had everything I needed - there were lots of problems - but they stuck with me and corrected without any problems. I think it shows the heart and character of a business the size of Home Depot that they care enough about us to stand behind what they sell. I am ashamed of those people in the Redding area who purchase things from Home Depot and put the "old" item in the box and return it. We had to order a water filtration from the internet because every time we opened a box, someone had already opened it and taken out parts or the entire unit was an old used unit. No matter how many times I return things I am met with a happy salesperson who helped me without any argument. I recommend the Home Depot in Redding to everyone. I found everything I needed, with very little help from staff, nonetheless, found it all from rooting hormone for my rosemary clippings, to a Meyers Lemon tree for my container gardening. I needed some flowers to attract bees, birds and butterflies - found 'em. I'm not worried about the ebb and flow of customer service at a place like this. I go there to find as many items on my list with as few stops as possible. If it was a small mom-and-pop place I would expect a completely different experience and price point. Good day. read more

My husband went in to exchange his lawnmower, he only used it a handful of times. They would not take it back due to it being over 30 days. That wasn't the main problem, the main problem was how bad customer service was. The gentleman was very rude and didn't even care. A lawn mower isn't something you use everyday, so for a 30 day policy is ridiculous. My husband said he will not go back in. I guess Lowe's is his new favorite store. Customer service is everything to us, we are very loyal people but once we are tested like crap we won't be back. I have also been at Home Depot to return items and been in line for over 30 minutes because they only have two people taking returns when the line was huge. I came back with family to get a bathtub and a wall piece. I had to wait for somebody to help us in installation services area and ended up leaving to get some other stuff done in redding. Then once we were being helped on our second time back another customer wasn't turned away when she had 'one' question. We ended up waiting for another 5min while she answered all this ladies questions. To make matters worse she didn't even remember us even though she had been waiting for us. These people need to be trained in customer relationship management. Home Depot get your shit together and hire more staff. The initial process of picking out our floors went great, the staff was very knowledgeable and the process was easy. They also gave my husband a great military discount. When we left the store is when it all fell apart. We were told we would get a phone call when our flooring was in. Weeks went by and my husband finally called them. Our flooring had been in for quite some time but they never notified us. We set up delivery for the next Friday. When the flooring didn't come by 5 we called Home Depot. They said we were scheduled for delivery between 6 and 8. Ok, fine. It never came. We called the next day and they told us we were now scheduled for the next Tuesday. We were annoyed, but ok. Tuesday comes and my husband calls in the afternoon to verify delivery. Our items aren't even on the truck, they don't know why. They schedule us again for Thursday. This time it gets delivered. Just in time because our installation was scheduled for the next Tuesday and the flooring is supposed to be in the room for several days to acclimate. We moved everything that could be moved out of the kitchen and got everything ready for the installation. My husband got a confirmation that installation would happen today and they would arrive between 8 and 11AM. They never show up. My husband calls and we are told our installation was pushed back a week. We were never contacted. So 1st we were not called when our items came in. 2nd items not delivered the 1st time scheduled. 3rd items are not delivered the 2nd time. Items are finally delivered. We get our entire house ready for installing floors. We are never contacted to say our installation was changed. Unless you are confident installing the item yourself do not use home depo. They are the most unreliable company I have ever worked with and cannot even manage a simple phone call to let you know your items are in let alone deliver something on time or even tell you when your install date has been changed. read more

Today I stood in line at the Pro desk (which has 4 registers) for a full 7 minutes. I was third in line while two of the registers were in use. However, there were 5 employees "hanging" around that specific area. One was obviously training a young girl on the # 2 POS. Two were chatting and standing within ear shot. One employee standing watching from a far. One register (#1, was in use by a service person. I am a frequent shopper at HD and service is ok in the rest of the store. But the PRO/Customer Service area, lacks both a PRO and Customer service. If I didn't already own $ , I would defer to another store. This is unacceptable Trina Bowers. Please resolve this situation. As a small business owner I like to support a small business whenever I purchase most of my materials . However , I learned that sometimes there are good buys at HD as well. I had some terrible experience with a pro service desk during the Summer of 2018 and almost give up on HD Redding until I have run into a young guy Corey Chase last week. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Also, he help me to secure an even better price I was expecting. Then he offered me a help with future purchases at the Redding store. The guy is a good as it gets and if he would leave in the Bay Area I would offer him a high position at my company TEQC. Couldn't find what I was looking for so I asked about 4 different employees who didn't take the time to show me where to find it even though I explained it wasn't in the aisle they described. Ending up leaving without it. While in the parking lot, I got to watch a drug deal. Very obviously heroin or cocaine. Called the Home Depot office twice to report it but was left with the phone non stop ringing for over five minutes each call. Went to call the police but phone died. read more

I called ahead and asked for a specific dryer and they said it was in stock for me to come pick it up! When I arrived I was told that the forklift was broken and they could not retrieve the dryer. Fix your forklift or tell the customers before they drive down. I drove straight to Lowe's and bought a nicer dryer from Mike and just installed it. Love Home Depot's products. Not a fan of some of the employees. Some are great, don't get me wrong , but my experiences have made me decide to venture into Lowes. Lowe's May have the same issues, but I'll have to see. I was in HD the other day to find out some necessary info about a Cub Cadet I had purchased last summer. I asked an employee...he didn't know, sorry. So I asked if he could get someone who maybe familiar with it. Sure, and off he goes. After waiting 10 to 15 minutes I caught another employee who was chatting with a coworker. I waited as to not interrupt them, but that wasn't going to happen, so interrupt I did. I asked if he could answer a couple questions about the Cub Cadet. He said, "We have a customer who is picking up a large load of railroad ties out back..." I said, "That's nice, but can ya just answer 2 questions for me?" We were right by the lawnmowers!! He at least knew the answers and I picked up what I needed and got on with my day. 1 other thing Home Depot..when you text a customer that their order is in & ready for pick up, make sure it is & that it wasn't sent back because it was broken. read more

We purchased a Dryer and paid for delivery and installation. On the day the people at the store had 2 addresses on the paperwork. Same street but varied on the house number. The delivery genius, instead of calling for verification of the address at the store. OR getting his lazy ass out of the truck to even knock on a door. Called a contact number leaving a voice mail about the issue and would only wait 10 minutes for confirmation before leaving. THEY LEFT NO NUMBER TO CONTACT! Obviously they left. We called the store and the incompetent woman we spoke to said the delivery driver REFUSED to go back and we would have to wait 2 days again. Here it is, 2 days later and NO DELIVERY! We call the woman at the store once again, She said she would find out when we could expect delivery. 7 HOURS LATER!! after several other attempts to reach this woman, We find out 1) She left and never did anything 2) The Manager left us on hold for 1/2 hour and 3) The dryer was NOT EVEN ON THE TRUCK AND WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 8 DAYS......Home Depot obviously believes we pay for a delivery, but have no reasonable expectation of them getting the Address correct, Having competent Delivery personnel or Customer Service skills. As I look at other reviews I am not the only one where these same idiots have made a joke of their company. However, it has proven a theory that Yes Multiple Idiots CAN be aggregated into a SINGULAR MORON. Don't waste your time people. Usually being female, going into Home Depot I am treated like a nuisance. My experience with this location however was absolutely wonderful. They sold me a wash machine for 538.18 they said the machine had a warranty for 1 year. They only give you 180 days to bring it back and if you live 1 hour away they don't care. I had problems a couple of months when I brought it home they said the lid was sticking because it was new. I called the warranty to register it and transfer it from my step dad's name because had the truck to get it. They made an appointment for me four months out. Then they never called. It took me months to get them to reschedule they put it out from oct 5 to Nov 10 th they called my parents house no one told me. I called a sales associate she told me to bring it in we could switch it out. I hired a friend with a truck he dropped it on my foot fracturing it and then the manager said no he would not honor the switch. I had to drive back home 50 less in gas and a dinner for my friend with truck. Store manager said he will not honor switch because it's no longer his problem and maintenance was middle man his associates did not know the company would not fix appliance where I live so I'm stuck with an appliance I have to pay to take to junk yard and I was not heard. I'm a single parent low funds children with cystic fibrosis can't take to laundry or friends due to covid I have been without a washer for more then a year and headaches of trying to be heard and helped please call the corporate and tell them this was terrible to treat a mom who has two boys. read more

A challenging return went SO EASY and PLEASANT and SAFE! We started some DIY Projects the last few months, tiling our master shower the biggest. We way over bought additional tile and trim pieces, and even mortar. We had everything organized and receipts, but it was A LOT to return. The clerk, named FAYBLE, was polite and careful going through each item and receipt, and kept such a friendly attitude. It was a much better than expected experience. Purchased all new kitchen appliances from the local Home Depot store. The initial purchase was smooth and worry free. When the appliances were delivered, I later that day noticed the refrigerator door was loose. I went into the store to talk to them and they scheduled someone to come out a few days later. I cleared my schedule and waited all day long. After about 3pm with no call no show, I called the store which took 45 min to get a person on the line. They gave me a number to call for the company that makes their service calls- which was a disconnected number. Another 30 minutes on the phone to talk to someone again, I get told they will have to reschedule. Nope. Not going to happen. They send an employee from the store over at 7pm, he fixes the door (thank you) and tells me as soon as he gets back he will order a new handle for the fridge, this one is dented. Fast forward two weeks, I don't have a handle or any follow through. I call and speak to the manager who says he will call me back. Never does. I go into the store and no one can tell me if the handle was ordered or not and that I will need to come back tomorrow. How does a company this size run like this?! Despite my frustration they gave me a handle off the floor model... I bought a new fridge but I'm getting used products because they dented mine?! I regret shopping at Home Depot and wish I would have taken my business else where. I will never shop here again. read more

I signed up special so I could leave this review for my father who is ill. Simple story that happens so much at this location in Redding ca. They sold him a barbeque for several hundred dollars. When he came in to pick up the barbeque it was not the one he bought. The numbers had been scratched out on the side and they were manually changed with a pen. Bernie was the employee who helped my father. He never called and tried to fix the problem. I wonder who scratched out the numbers? I don't know why my dad didn't get the right barbeque, but I do know it was not an accident because of the numbers being changed. Also, they never gave him an option of getting the floor model. The floor model was gone as well. He had already paid so when he came to pick up they tried to make money and give him the shallow pan version. Anyway, this combined with the fact my dad is so ill and the rudeness I saw from employees on the phone to customers, make me think that I'm a Lowes guy now. They can waist a lot of your time as I experienced as well, but my time is valuable to me and I don't like to worry about being ripped off. read more

I was just here yesterday, so the experience is so fresh in my mind, even though I got totally pickled last night. Anyways, upon entering the store they have the token greeter. Today it was Uncle Fester and he did his darnedest to avoid any eye contact, and didn't say a word (even though I said hey buddy). No big deal, I know doing something you and no one wants to do sucks butt. Got some keys made, the lady was so annoyed that I was bothering her from her gossip sesh with her fellow coworker, my apologies! They keys worked when I got home so I was super stoked, because usually half of your copies are bunk. Picked up a few odds and ends for the house, etc. I must confess that I love the Home Depot and all they have there, except for one department.... the Lighting Dept at the Home Depot is so shitty. My wife and I have been looking for new pendant lights for our kitchen, and they just don't have shit. They have boring white ones that the retirement home might want to consider. The inventory has been the same for at least a year, they just move it around. I have to admit that Lowe's smokes Home Depot in this regard, you'll find all your lighting needs over there. I'm just holding out for the Depot because I have a grip of gift cards. I get a kick out of grumpy employees who are so mad that they have a job and have to work. You'll find this to be the norm with their employees who are in the 20-30 year old range. All the older adults/seniors that work there are always pretty happy and very helpful. Don't get all butt hurt at your position in life. At least it's a job! Done ranting/loving for now... need some flavor and a beer. Get all you need (minus lighting) at the Home Depot, do some good happy employee watching, ask lots of questions, watch them squirm and try to pass the buck. Gotta love the Depot! read more

The gentleman that measured was very nice and prompt but everything after that has been a total nightmare. Wrong orders to the wrong place. Deliveries time that started at 7-9 and now we are at 11-12 three phone calls later. And we haven't even made it to the install yet!!!! read more

Horrible!! We were looking all around the front of store and outside of store for a shopping cart, but could not locate a single one. Two HD employees were standing out front so I decided to ask them where the shopping carts were. Their reply, "They are in the parking lot and you probably have to go pretty far out there to find one". Then they preceded to turn around and walk back into the store. They have no customer service, extremely long lines, and employees have no experience or training. This is not their employees fault, it is the greedy executives at the top who do not hire enough and train a sufficient number of employees. I was also told by an employee in the outside garden checkout that they would soon be replaced with self check out stations. Shame on you HD you just lost another customer & after your big corporate tax credit!!!! Will not return to HD. On the eve of Pearl Harbor day, my grandfather, an 80+ year old veteran of WWII, who served in the Pacific as a Navy "frog man." The predecessors of the navy seals. He was refused his veterans discount. The story goes like this. Grandpa was buying flooring when he asked about the discount. The clerk was unsure and called a manager. When the manager arrived she did not greet him, didn't even look at him. She set a laminated piece of paper with military ID examples printed on it. She then informed the clerk that " these are the ones we accept and I don't have time for this." Needless to say my grandpa did not purchase the flooring. He was so upset that he went home for the day. Our vets deserve better. Not just my grandpa but yours as well. I would have given them no stars but I had to in order to post this. Since posting this earlier today The Home Depot in Redding has promised to call my grandfather and formally apologize. Thank you Home Depot. read more

I purchased flooring and install service at the Redding Home Depot. I was told that my pick was "beautiful" "popular" and "in stock". After my measure appt, I was told that it was not in stock. That was the first issue. After waiting two weeks for all materials, installers were scheduled. Three installers did not show up with three separate excuses. More time went by. Home Depot severed ties with that particular install vendor and they scheduled a 4th installer to come out from another company. The 4th installer showed up and said that the "product was not good" and refused to install. This is now a month and a half later. The original agreement was to have this installed within one week. I was told by Redding Home Depot that my option was to go buy their new recommended flooring (upgrade - more expensive) and start the process again. They did not stand behind my purchase. They did not offer a comparable solution. They did not apologize. Their answer was to start completely over, give them more money and just trust that it will all work out this time. I escalated to Home Depot's national customer service rep. The woman was very nice, but the options were the same. Go back to my local home depot, pick something else out, make sure its it stock, schedule the installer. In other words - start over. Never again. Hello Lowes. Good-bye Home Depot. read more

Home Depot has always been fine at other locations, but this Churn Creek location probably has the worst customer service. The older woman with short reddish hair was super rude to not only customers, but to other employees. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day. But no, she is like this every time I come in. I'd rather drive across town and go to Lowe's than to have to deal with employees that act like they hate their job and everyone that comes in. read more

Went to Home Depo to pick up a few things for our home. Unable to locate what I was looking for and ( unsure the person's position ) could not help me find what I was looking for. After 45 min of walking up and down isles I finally found some of what I was looking for. Sad thing is I had to go to another hardware store to get the rest of my parts. I went into Home Depot today and was shocked at the condition of the place. It looked like a combination of my kids' room after a slumber party and WinCo in the middle of the night. There seemed to be plenty of employees walking around, but no one was cleaning up. There were carts and displays filling the isles. If there was a fire in that store, people would get hurt trying to get out. And to top it off, they didn't have the item I needed. Since it's only one of two home stores in Redding, I will probably be back but I sure hope they clean up the place. read more
