The staff in the garden center are unfailingly helpful. Nice selection of healthy plants, and gardening supplies, but it's the staff who make visits worth driving across town. Prices are comparable to other big box home stores in Williamsburg and surrounding area. read more

These five stars are all for Shirley at the Pro Desk! Man, it is great watching someone who is ace at their job. I had a weird piece of crown molding I was trying to match, with some old outdated serial number on it. She knows her system extremely well, and jumped right in, calling all sorts of different departments, finding out the current manufacturer's new name, and checking stores all over. It was like hunting for the Ark. I thought at one point she was going to pull out the Staff of Ra and wait for the sunlight to fall upon her rolodex. As it turns out, this stuff is unavailable, but I can safely put the search to bed, given the thoroughness of her efforts. Home Depot Washer/Dryer Installers - Error after Error. Note that big box stores like Home Depot do not have their own installers; they "sub out" (hire a third party) to deliver and install your appliances. We purchased an expensive ($2,400) General Electric washer/dryer combination. We have no complaints about the appliances - the 1 star is a result of "multiple" installation errors by two different Home Depot installation teams. After repeated installation errors by different Home Depot teams, the apologetic appliance manager at our Home Depot opined that they are at the mercy of substandard installation contractors. Here's what they did wrong: 1. Install Error #1: We had to pay extra for additional hoses since the dryer has a "steam" setting and requires water input. They brought the brand new hoses and left them in the unopened bag laying in the laundry room. When I called (10 minutes after they departed) the lead stated that "Well, most people don't like the stream setting". I stated that we paid extra for the dryer with steam and the extra hoses and Y adaptor, and with an irritated tone he asked "do you want us to come back to install the water to the dryer"? Of course we do. They came back and installed the hoses. 2. Install Error #2: We found that the washer's cold setting would not work, and (after a lot of back/forth) it was because the installers "reversed" the hot/cold hoses, even though Hot/Cold input is clearly marked on the washer. Before we realized this error, we contacted Home Depot, who advised that we should contact GE (Warranty issue). The GE tech called to say that he "guaranteed" that the hoses were reversed, based on the symptoms, and it was not a warranty issue, but a bad install. We went back to Home Depot again to speak to the appliance manager, who arranged another visit by the installers (which now leads to install error #3). 3. Install Error #3: Home Deport arranged for a "different" installation team to check the washing machine hoses. They "looked" behind the washer and said that all is correct and the GE Technician was wrong. They are certain something is wrong with the washer. If they had simply "traced" the hose from the spigot to the washer they would have found it was reversed, but they did not do that. Back to GE warranty folks, and (now a month or so after the washer was installed) the GE technician (John, who was excellent) visits, and within a minute shows that Home Depot had the hoses reversed the whole time. He reverses the hoses and all is now well. We went back to speak with the appliance manager at our Home Deport, and he apologized and thanked us for letting him know. read more

Thomas and Lisa in Home Depot's Garden Department went beyond normal service helping me pick and cut the base of a Christmas (so it stood even.) Please do not purchase tile installation from Home Depot. They use Romanoff Renovations and they are the only flooring installers. I have been dealing with a bad tile install over over a year now and keep getting the run around from Romanoff and no help from HD. I was planning on getting carpet after the tile was complete but I will never purchased another thing from HD. Please read the Better Business Bureau complaints for Romanoff renovations before purchasing installation service from HD. read more

I went into Home Depot today with my Milwaukee drill that caught on fire in my hand after one month to exchange it with my receipt. The girl at the return counter was very friendly and I understand it's not her fault and that her hands were tied so this is it no means directed towards her. Upon arriving they basically told me that I had to mail the drill in to Milwaukee in order to have it replaced even though they had the same drill in stock. I switch to Milwaukee thinking it was a superior brand but it's certainly not superior customer service back to the 20 V DeWalt I go. What ended up happening is I ended up taking my receipt and leaving the drill there and told him to put it on display as a warning to customers that I didn't have time to send it back. Really disappointed in Milwaukee's customer service! read more

If you want to be ripped off, life threatened, and abused, then this is the store for you. Due to the incompetence of the store employees including management employees Kyle, Tammy, Denise and Store Manager Kevin Keene, and District Office employee Tariq, we now have a credit card bill for $2774.95, and have no Goods or Services. Now they are lying to the credit card company and local law enforcement that they already issued checks instead of credit card credits, or gave us gift cards - they can't keep their lies straight. For weeks they have no idea how to reach the Regional Office! We'll update it later, when we will explain that no one should ever have them do a delivery or installation by their "so-called" Third Party! read more

(1) I bought a dryer for an existing propane hookup [with delivery and installation included in the promotion] (2) The dryer was delivered fine, but the delivery person said they can't install propane -- by state law -- and that Home Depot is not supposed to be selling propane dryers anymore. (3) Home Depot refused to take the return because they said it was "buyers remorse" and (4) I had to hire a third party to install the dryer at an additional cost of $300. read more

Starr knee exactly where the mailbox mounting plate was located! Can you imagine knowing your inventory in Home Depot to say "I know exactly where that is"? Sounds pretty risky to me but Starr stared with confidence without hesitation. Unsold to a plastic mounting plate without having to buy an entire cedar board for 12" worth of mailbox. Stopped by inside garden to feed my power tools a well balanced diet of stabilized fuel. What? No varnish in my carburetors over winter! No way with stabilized fuel and talk about go juice, 92 octane to mow that hill without hesitation. read more

Lost a customer for life. We ordered a gas dryer. They could not do an install for more than a week. We arranged with our own contractor to do the install tomorrow. The dryer was delivered today, but they were delivery, the would not disconnect and remove the old one, in spite of paying for it. So, one crew delivers the dryer, then someone comes to disconnect the old dryer and hookup the new dryer, then someone, much later comes to pickup the old dryer. Home Depot please help me to understand why I would ever shop here again. Here are my two poor experiences: You order material on line, it comes but it is not the material you ordered. And I mean completely wrong. Then you return it to the store and you get attitude from the employees and they cannot find the order. No apology or customer service. Next you order pavers at the store to be delivered and the shipment never shows up. But you get emails asking how you liked your pavers. What happened to Home Depot?? At this store reps don't head in the other direction but actually seek me out to be of assistance. Tim in electrical has been there for me to help ensure I got the right stuff for our garage door installation and he set me in a good direction for having a chandelier rewired. On my last visit, Dylan in window treatments was tops on store offerings and product lines for blinds/shutters. Always a pleasant experience at this store. read more

I went to buy a dehumidifier. I found the one I wanted (last one on display) but the box was damaged. took it to the register and was assured it had been checked and was fine. I got it home and it was literally split in half. back to Home Depot I go. Waited for the exchange while walking around looking for cork board, which according to the 5 employees I asked was in 5 different places. When I got back to the return desk the wrong model was waiting for me. I waited again while they went back to get the correct model...which came back in a punctured damaged box. I told the lady I did not want the one in the damaged box. I was told that the rest were on a pallet overhead and there was no one to get them. Meanwhile the sales lady is opening the damaged box to prove to me that the second one is not damaged. I reiterated that I did not want the one I the damaged box. no one would get me one in a non-damaged box so I took my refund and left. Sorry customer service all around. read more

This store is a cluster fuck. We ordered 16 blinds and paid to have them installed back in early September. Two of the blinds we had to order manually online because apparently the store could not order them. I had to order them through homedepot.com (don't get me started on that one). The store would not give the contractor all of them and one of the blinds was damaged. The contractor had to come back to install the two the store would not give them and the replacement damaged one. We were told it would be a few days. That was Oct 6. Multiple calls and trips there and this is still not sorted. Blinds are sitting here and one at the store and people seem to be incapable of calling back or getting this taken care of. This store is awful. Poor communication, poor customer service and the contractor is right there with them. Never again. Lowe's gets all my business from now on. read more

The best hardware store in Williamsburg. Pleasant, polite and happy employees. Brands that I buy. Instead of generic house brands that Lowe's loves to push. The store is incredibly clean as are the bathrooms. The tool rental is a definite plus. I always find what I'm looking for and always am treated kindly and with respect by the cashiers on my way out. Customer service is HORRIBLE. I only gave them 2 stars because there was one pleasant interaction in the midst of 10 horrible ones. I wanted a base cabinet that was not painted due to wanting to paint it in chalk. The sales person said they didn't carry it, so we asked them to call Newport News to have them hold it after finding it in their warehouse, he gave up after 10 minutes and said sorry I'm getting no where and hung up. I was shocked ... I walked away with a horrible feeling. I felt like I was interrupting social hour every time I talked to an employee they were chatting. Went to Newport News and it was way better, they had to ironically call Williamsburg for tile and made sure they not only got through but made them check their inventory, helped me pay for it and had them put in the front so I could pick it up! The Williamsburg store could learn something about customer service. I'll either travel to Newport News for Home Depot or lowes. read more

Be careful, this store doesn't want to honor your store credit. When I tried to use my store credit card I received here two months ago (for a small price un-opened item return), the cashier told me the name registered for the card doesn't match my ID. Finally, the lady at the return desk helped to find the answer: when my store credit card was registered here, even after they checked my ID, they input my first name as "A" and my last name as "B" ... My suggestion: (1) double check if they input your name correctly for your store credit card, or (2) just avoid this store. read more

We have been long time Home Depot shoppers. As a military family, we move a lot and they have always been there. We made a pretty large purchase from this HD Last week. There were some nice sales going on which made it to where the particular items were on back order. My husband didn't want to wait so he was looking for what was in stock. The salesman who was helping us was so Impatient and rude. We proceeded with our purchase anyway. Thinking this guy was just having a bad day. When completing the purchase we were told that because the item we purchased was a sale item that there was no military discount. We have never been a military family that has thought anything was owed to us but if there is a discount available, why not. My husband on a whim decided to check the Lowes right across the street. They had the same item we bought for virtually the same price. Plus they offered the military discount even though it was on sale. And they were friendly about it. My husband went back to HD to see if they would match it so we wouldn't have to cancel the order and such. At this time he was at the Customer Service Desk. We were met with darn near hostility and claiming that "We" have given the military over 91 million...and turns to yell at his counterpart a few feet away, confirming his calculation of 91 million is correct. We were dumbfounded as to the treatment by not just 1 employee who we were assuming was having a bad day, but Yet another employee being downright rude and disrespectful to us for no cause. We were not asking for a handout, not asking for extra special treatment. We were just asking a question. At the Customer Service desk. Never have we been treated that way in an establishment like Home Depot. They not only lost our business but we will make sure we let EVERYONE we know understand their level of customer service. Military Families or not. Incidentally we got amazing service at the Lowes across the street. And an extra rebate. read more
