This review is for the clinic's pet medication prescription refills. I'm highly unsatisfied for the following reasons: 1. After an annual health check up appointment of $250+ dollars, this clinic will not give pet owners a prescription to fill medications at a pharmacy of the pet owners choice, ie Costco, which can provide excellent savings on flea and heart worm medications. These medications are expensive at baseline. 2. This clinic forces their customers to order their pet's med from their online system that they sourced from the mainland. These meds are over $400+ for a 12 months supply. They cost a lot more than Costco. In addition, instead of providing free shipping for Hawaii customers spending so much money already for their pet's medications, they charge customers another $9.95 for shipping on every order. This is after spending $650 already at this clinic ($250+ annual check up appt fee + $400+ medications). I suggest they offer free shipping for orders over $100 or more or any order that are picked up at their clinic. I spoke to their staff about this but was told that it's EASIER FOR THEM for customers to get their pet's medications in their mail. They fail to mention that this is done BY PASSING THE COST TO THEIR CUSTOMERS - TO PAY MORE! I highly recommend this clinic provide complimentary shipping on their pet prescriptions for anything over $100 and not make their customers pay more! read more

My cat needed a doctor right away as he had an injury from a cat bite that caused an abscess and high fever. I called and there was an opening that day unlike other places where it's a first come first serve or no appointment available till next week. I was so happy because it's had an opening that day, the place is very clean and they greet you when you come in and they already know your pets name. Didn't have to take that very long and was seen by Dr. Lee she is an excellent doctor and went over all the procedures she is doing and very helpful. The staff is pleasant and as soo as I made an appointment they sent me information to fill out so I won't have to. They also send an app to download so I can keep tract of my fur babies records and future appointments. At the end of visit I received a text with the invoice of what was done at the visit. I cannot begin to explain the level of confidence we have in the veterinary clinic. Our pup came with some medical issues which manifested themselves late during her first year. If you have an animal who is the heart and soul of your family and they are in distress you are frantic to resolve the problems. Our first two attempts with very reputable veterinary clinics were unable to clearly diagnose her problems and treat her appropriately during her crisis. I can't even remember how we finally landed in the Aina Haina Vet Clinic. I think a friend suggested their clinic and we landed there just desperate to save her. Our dog's diagnosis was swift and treatment accurate. When your pet is an intergal part of your family and in distress you are vulnerable and desperate to find a solution as you would for a child. read more

I took my sick bunny to our first visit with Dr. Kaya today - he was so caring and thorough with her. She was the calmest that I've seen her with a veterinarian, with Dr. Kaya. I think his approach is really great with bunnies, he takes a few minutes initially just to pay compliment to the bunny, and talk and give some pets to her. Oh my goodness. I cannot recommend this sweet lil office enough! We had the unfortunate opportunity to patronize this business after our baby (13 years old) was preparing to cross the rainbow bridge. As you can imagine, this process was not an easy one but we were met with such compassion, kindness, and love as we navigated this challenging process. Dr Onaga and his wonderful staff did an amazing job of making sure our lil Chiefy was treated with dignity and respect. This sweet office held our hearts in their hands as they lovingly helped Chief enter doggy heaven. We recently had a semi emergency with our pups. Not so happy BM. This location is close to is and had went with there with previous company in the past. It was easy to call and make an appointment. Zoey did a good job organizing our appt and Dr we would see. When I arrived, there were plenty of staff up front that welcome myself and pups and got us checked-in. Shortly after they called our name and had us move to an exam room. Abbey escorted us to the room while doing a general screening of questions. Not long after Dr Onaga came into the room, introducing himself and asking general questions about our pup. He did a physical assessment and shared some differential diagnoses and his opinion on steps we should take. He left it up to discussion and I agreed what he said sounded good. They also cut our dogs nails and did a good job as well. Took our pet home followed recommendations and she's doing better now. I was really impressed by this experience. I love this group. They are so caring and spend a lot of time educating you about the nuances of your particular pet. They get to know all of your pets and remember who is who in your pet family. I never feel like I am being "sold" on anything, which is refreshing and they never guilt trip me when I am less than compliant on issues like brushing my pets' teeth. Dr. Onaga is my go to vet but they are all good. The staff are super friendly and really care about your animals, get to know their personalities. I can't even explain the amount of appreciation I have for the Aina Haina Vet Clinic. Both Dr. Sakamoto and Onaga have given wonderful care to our dogs. The whole team is excellent! Our Jeffrey recently crossed over the rainbow bridge. Our boy was 18+ years old and lived a full life loved by so many including Dr. Sakamoto, who was always there to answer our questions and concerns. His staff was always accommodating and patient with us. We were devastated to say goodbye to our Jefferey, however the kindness and caring from Aina Haina vet did provide us with such comfort during this difficult time. Very disappointed in this vet clinic. Two issues I had with this clinic. First, there should be regulations about clinics stating before a visit that they will force you to buy medication from their clinic (or an affiliate) before the visit. I went for a routine checkup to get my pet's annual medication prescription. I went here out of convenience because they were in the area. I went to Sam's club to fill the prescription and was told that the Vet clinic would not allow them to fill it. I called and was told that they don't trust other companies because they might be selling fake or expired medication so they will only fill the prescription through their office or their online affiliate, which cost at the time $30-50 more than Sam's club. That's ridiculous! They don't trust a nationwide company to fill a prescription! If I had known that I would not have gone here. Second (and last) chance; went there because we have been here before and they already had our pet's history on file. Our pet was injured or suffering from some sort of ailment and we went to the vet because we trust that they know what they are doing and can give a proper diagnosis. Long story short, combined bill came to almost $800.00 and the vet stated that HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. He then asked us to come back, (which we found that we would be charged for another visit instead of a follow up) to do a check up on how our pet was doing. We were told that the VET wanted to DO MORE TESTS and we would be charged again. Absolutely unacceptable! To be fair, the staff is great and the assistant was very professional and helpful. I can't believe this vet gets such glowing reviews. Two visits and I already have a mistrust of vets. How do they expect the average person to afford treatment for their pets when they don't do thorough exams and expect owners to keep shelling out money for more tests which should have been done on the first visit? I'll be going back to my first vet even though the drive is further. read more

Took our dog in to get a cystotomy(?), basically a "kidney stone" that had blocked his urethra and he couldn't pee. Went to get a consult with Dr. Onaga. Very professional, he answered all our questions, and above all he reassured us about the procedure and what to expect. We did the surgery yesterday (10/22/24) and am nursing the "King" of the household back to his normal self. What I want to stress is that the staff at Aina Haina Veterinary Clinic makes you feel comfortable calling them and I don't get the sense that I'm "bothering" them. For the next two weeks of our dog's recovery I know we will have concerns yet I'm reassured that Dr. Onaga and staff will always be available to assist. Our dog had prior surgeries and we had a couple of "cones of shame" (COS) which I mentioned to Emily. She told me to bring them as they'd check if it's okay to use for our dog's recovery. When we went to pick-up our dog I was "shame" to bring the COS's into the office and purposely left them in the car. Emily asked me where they were and I mentioned my embarrassment. She said "don't be like that" and convinced me to get the COS to save some money. I appreciated that gesture and that reinforced my view that they cared both for their patients and their owners. Brought my old cat in with an ingrown claw. The staff was super nice and I saw the doctor within 5 minutes. My cat doesn't like his paws touched so we decided to sedate him. I left for 30 min and came back with my cat in fine shape and they also trimmed all his claws. The price was very reasonable. We started seeing Dr. Takayama in 2018 after our cat was injured in an accident. He was extremely professional and helpful in a highly stressful situation. We continued to see him as our primary vet at his office in Kaimuki. After he moved locations, we decided to try a different vet in Kaimuki and was very displeased with the care we received. Fast forward to 2023, it was a no brainer to go back to Dr. Takayama after extending our family with a puppy. I think the clinic is on the pricier end- still reasonable, but I'm more than happy to pay a premium for the health and wellbeing of our fur babies. My dog got a sprained foot or ankle because he screamed like crazy after jumping up on the couch and started limping, so my wife brought him into the vet the next day. She came back telling me that the doctor could not pinpoint where the injury was, and explained that it must be a muscle tear in the area. The doctor was, however, successful in recommending coming back for vaccines. As a customer, I felt like I received poor service, because I did not know the exact injury of my dog to prevent further injury, and at the same time she was sales pitched to bring my dog back for vaccines, which is not the reason why we came in. Upon returning home, my dog screams in pain and injured himself even further. Frustrated I called the office because I did not understand how he could not pinpoint where the injury was so that we could take preventative measures from further injury. I did not use any foul language, and I was very respectful. When the doctor returned my call, he answered all my questions, and I thanked him for being so professional, and was very nice with him over the phone. He then called me back 10 minutes later to ask if I wanted to order any medication's for my dog, and then stated that his front desk person felt offended by my initial call. This was after two normal interactions with him. This place does not deserve my money or anyone else's money if upon receiving poor service, they can't handle a mildly frustrated Customer over the phone who has valid questions. And if the doctor is going to enable his front desk staff to be easily offended, maybe they shouldn't be face-to-face with customers, because that requires a very simple set of skills. read more

Unfortunately, my fur-baby passed on to the other side at only 4 years old, I couldn't have had quality time with him if I did not take him to this place.
