Friends have said The Hook was a good place to eat, so we finally decided to give it a go. Sadly our visit was disappointing. Service was fine. The calamari app was undercooked. They did comp it since we didn't eat it. Then our meals came. My husband did enjoy his Seafood Diablo. I ordered the Hook Platter, all was good except the piece of salmon which tasted off. I had my husband (who is a chef himself and has worked for a very well known upscale local seafood restaurant) try it. He tasted it, spit it out and said don't eat that it's bad. It only takes one bad thing (in this case two) to ruin everything else, because the bad will be the takeaway. read more

The wife ordered a vanilla white Russian (she actually enjoyed it) and I ordered the hook bloody mary (or whatever it's called). The bloody mary was very peppery and spicy, but tasted watered down. It wasn't terrible, but it was definitely subpar. For food, we ordered a handful of buffalo wings, a burger and fries, and a gyro wrap with a side of clam chowder. * the wings were kinda what I expected * the burger was like a generic frozen patty tossed on a stove grill (not flame broiled) * the gyro wrap was very dry and plain and consisted of 4 long thick rectangular patties of meat sticking up and out of the wrap and a bit of feta and whatnot midway and at the bottom. Very lame * the clam chowder was very underwhelming. It was more like potato chowder. I didn't see any clams in it, but I tasted a couple bits (and I really do mean bits) I would only consider going back for a beer on tap and maybe a mixed drink for the wife.... but lets be real, that'll never happen. read more

Mother's Day special had the Lamb! We ordered a large variety of different foods and they were all really good! Chicken and artichoke dish had a perfect amount of lemon/dill. Lovely! Came in on a Monday night and the crowd was just starting to clear up. Our waiter was amazing- checked in on us at the perfect times and great to talk to. We got the linguine Alfredo with chicken that tops all Alfredos I've eaten, as well as the salmon burger, which had a nice charred/grilled flavor. Highly recommend!! The staff is ALWAYS friendly there and we've been there many times. We were just there again tonight, cod piccata with orzo fantastic. They have the best house salad in Edmonds, always fresh and they make their own dressings, our favorite is the feta dressing. Small details in the restaurant evident, whether the fresh flowers in bathroom or "Himalayan" salt, or lollipops at the host stand. Kudos to you folks for being an awesome neighborhood favorite. Tracy and I were very very excited to try this new restaurant just a mile from the house in Perrinville. Fresh seafood, but the flavoring is lacking. We started with the garlic shrimp appetizer, which is just shrimp poached with butter, white wine and garlic. Nothing fancy. Tracy had the halibut, which was excessively lemony... and made for a very overpowering sour flavored fish. I had the cod and chips, with standout fries - this is what saved the Hook from a 2 star review. On account of this 4 star dish. The waiter was really nice, but extremely unhelpful when asked what he would recommend. He did steer us away from the salmon and chips as well as the halibut and chips. Being the closest restaurant to the house, I am a bit sad that it's not better. I might go back just because of its proximity, but I am not sure it would be any time soon. :-( read more

I can't tell if this place wants to be a fancy seafood restaurant or a dive bar. The prices seemed a little steep and the food was OK. They have fancier options and also things like fried fish and french fries. Staff checked on us and had a good beer selection. I would def come back but not sure for dinner... We had dinner here last night, we were pretty disappointed with all 3 of our dinners, unfortunately. The service was excellent, but that's about all we can recommend here. The clam linguine was full of clams, but the pasta was dried out like it sat under a heat lamp, some clams were gritty, and there was literally no seasoning in the dish. The stuffed sole was also incredibly bland. The saddest item on our table was the garlic bread. It looked great, but it had no buttery, garlicky, or cheesy goodness. Rating out of 10: 8 The Hook is maybe a mile from my house, and yet I had never tried it out. I was home for lunch during the week, and it sounded like a good lunch date spot to try. We started with the crab and shrimp dip, which was accompanied by grilled pitas, and it was creamy, luscious and delicious. I always enjoy a great seafood dip with artichokes, and this is one of the better ones I have had in a while. It was also nice to see that they didn't skimp on the crab. For my main course I went with The Hook Platter, which is essentially a sampler of all the fried seafood options, served with fries and cole slaw. Their panko breading is not too heavy ad has a nice flavor, and the seafood itself was all cooked perfectly. It came with cod, salmon, halibut, prawns, and oysters. The oysters and the halibut were my favorites, but it all tasted good. Of note are how great their fries are. They are definitely house made and have an amazing batter. I rarely eat fries, but I could have eaten more of these! We were too full for dessert, but the dessert options looked heavenly, and I plan on trying some out in the future. The food & drinks here are AMAZING! Come at happy hour and try out their great deals. We have always enjoyed ourselves. Friendly staff, great food & good drinks. We always get the "House Steamers" which is an amazing mix of muscles & clams in a garlic tomato base served with bread. It's a bit like cioppino if you're familiar with it. Ask for extra bread with this, you'll need it! The garlicky tomato broth is by far the best part & soaking it up with that bread... Heaven! Whatever they're doing they're doing it right! They have good manhattans and even their more female oriented drinks (read sweet drinks) like a lemon drop or apple martini are good. Their salt & pepper calamari is great. Most places you know you're getting the frozen rings that are like mush. Here they come out with BIG very meaty strips (3-4" long and bigger around than your finger) and an amazing home made aioli. I love this calamari so much I usually skip the dip because it's just that good! This is not a happy hour item but @ $12 as of this writing it is absolutely worth every cent. I don't have anything negative to say except that I wish I could eat here daily. We have some pretty good seafood options around Edmonds but in my opinion this one takes the prize. A bit out from downtown Edmonds but just drive straight up Olympic view drive and you'll find it at the Perrinville area. Try it out, I don't think they will disappoint. read more

I'd like to start this review saying THEY HAVE A CHANGING TABLE!!! As a mother I find it very difficult to find places that have changing tables. Even places labeled "family restaurant" I've found that some don't have changing table or it's broken and in need of repair. So major thumbs up to that! The food and service was amazing we got the Mac n cheese meatball soup for my son and he loved it. I got the blue burger omg that was a tasty burger if you like blue cheese I highly recommend it. My mother in law got the Diablo seafood dish and she loved it she said everything was done perfectly. To end our dish we got the blue berry raspberry cheesecake and that was soooooooo good! Disclaimer: I have a spoiled tongue, tasting the best of every cuisine in Aruba. It was ok, We thought we would give it a try based on location and a seafood option. the wife had the hook which came with all the seafood options, but everything was breaded even the salmon fist time i have seen that. its a little unclear that all the items where breaded. some of it was ok. I had the flat bread it was ok, I have made it better at home. Not what you want from a restaurant. The food and menu need work for sure. I feel they are a little unsure if they want to be a seafood restaurant or a dive bar. I agree with another reviewer about the decor and lay out. Again I feel they are just a bit unclear with modern metal work, and random neon signs. The service was very good though! The Drinks where also very good and reasonable. 8$ for margarita and 4.50 for draft. Not saying i Wont be back, but i hope they make some changes. This is where I go when I'm looking for a meal I know will be delicious!! I'm from Colorado and have lived in the area for about 7 years now. I'm getting used to the idea of real seafood, and The Hook is now my go-to place for trying different kinds. Some dishes I haven't been crazy about were just because I didn't care for that particular kind of seafood- but I can tell that it is expertly prepared!! The service was the best part of our experience, but the food was just bad. It was our first visit here - so we went to Happy Hour and had several small dishes. I felt like I was eating things I had defrosted from my own fridge. A couple of the dishes were actually pretty inedible. We stopped in on a lazy Saturday afternoon, and we were fairly disappointed with the quality and portions of the food and drinks. It might appear to be a nice restaurant on the exterior, but the interior is effectively a Five Guys with a bar. My husband ordered salmon, and he was surprised when it came encrusted in what appeared to be Panko. He ordered it based off the recommendation of the server who raved about it, and he was pretty disappointed. The meat was almost soggy with oil. I don't eat meat, so I thought they couldn't possibly screw up Linguine Alfredo. It was pretty much white sauce from a jar - or at least that was the complexity of the sauce. It was very disappointing. Our server was inattentive and did not come back to our table for almost twenty minutes after our food arrived. I do not think we will go back. read more
