You all know I hate leaving poor reviews, but unfortunately, this is going to be one of them. Honestly, this feels more like a 2.5-star experience than a 3-star one. I don't think the restaurant is beyond saving by any means, but I do think there are some issues that need attention. Looking back, I wish I had paid closer attention to some of the lower-rated Google reviews because my experience ended up being very similar. Upon arrival, figuring out how to enter the restaurant was a little confusing. Once inside, I decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Unfortunately, every step up was covered with what felt like an excessive amount of sand. The windowsills along the staircase were filled with cobwebs and what appeared to be piles of dead mosquitoes. Now, I understand that restaurants near the beach have to deal with sand, insects, and other environmental challenges. That comes with the territory. But this felt beyond that. It felt neglected. Once upstairs, the staff was friendly enough. I don't have any major complaints about the service. It wasn't overwhelming. It wasn't underwhelming. It was just... whelming. One thing I did genuinely appreciate was seeing a restaurant filled with people of color, both among the staff and guests. In many of the places I've visited in the area, that hasn't always been the case, so it was refreshing and welcoming. Before being seated, I asked to use the restroom. Unfortunately, the cleanliness issues continued there as well. What made this frustrating is that the restaurant itself wasn't dirty. The tables were spotless. The bar area looked great. It was the neglected areas that stood out. The stairs, the windowsills, the corners, and the restroom all felt like they needed a little extra attention. Honestly, I feel like one dedicated deep-cleaning day could dramatically improve the overall experience. These things make ir break an experience with a customer. Now, onto the food. I ordered the lobster poutine, and honestly, it was really good. I'd absolutely order it again. I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. I also ordered a burger. It was beautiful when it arrived, but there were a few details that took away from the experience. The lettuce was a little spotty, there was visible dirt on the tomato, and the house-made chips were slightly burnt. Everything was edible, but those small details matter. There was also an uncomfortable interaction with another guest seated near me. I'm intentionally not making this review about that situation because it wasn't the restaurant's fault. However, it did add to an experience that already wasn't heading in a positive direction. Overall, I think this restaurant has tremendous potential. The location is fantastic, and there are moments where you can see what they're trying to create. Unfortunately, I don't plan to return. That said, I encourage others to experience it for themselves. Plenty of people seem to like this place, and you may have a completely different experience than I did. I sincerely wish the staff well because they were kind throughout my visit. I just think the restaurant has some opportunities to improve, and I hope they take advantage of them. read more

I think this is a hit and miss. Our server Christine is exceptional. She is very friendly and always paid attention to what we need. The food is nice and I really recommended the whitefish from the entree menu. If I ever make another trip to Mackinaw City, I will definitely returm. read more

Great location over looking Lake Huron and Mackinac Island. We came here for dinner on a Sunday. We were able to get a bar seat with great views of the lake. Our waiter was so kind and attentive. We started off with drinks and complimentary bread. For dinner, my husband and I got the whitefish. It's caught daily. The fish is broiled with the option of three different seasonings. My husband got his fish with lemon pepper and I got mind with Cajun seasonings. Our meals came with veggies and the option of rice, a potato, or fries. We both got the potato. Really enjoyable. Service was unpleasant didn't seem inviting at all. Alot of the items were not available to order. Ordered medium well burger and got meat undone. Took forever to remake and then they just brought meat with no bun so took longer just to bring the buns. The meals were to expensive for the service. IT was clean restaurant though. read more

We had a party of ten which threw off the staff, couldn't figure out how to seat a party that big (6 adults and 4 kids). They put us in the wine bar area in front of a massive picture window without a shade and the sun was beating on us the entire time. It's a tourist town so food is overpriced but my wife and I split the surf and turf. Steak was cooked to the way we ordered (medium) and shrimp was good. It came with a baked potato and a house salad. For drinks, I had water and she had an iced tea, cost was $45 before tip. The service was not good at all, even though 3 people ordered lobster bisque only 1 got their soup. They also came out in bowls because the cups were not washed. The one who got her lobster bisque never received the dinner she ordered. When she tried cancelling the dinner because we already had eaten the server gave her a hard time. We also never saw a manager and the restaurant wasn't busy. read more

The goods: our server, Sadeff (my apologies if I misspelled her name), was very polite and seemed as attentive as she could be. The lobster poutine was okay for vacation food, but kudos on the NECC, which was great. Our son said the humungous Great Lakes whitefish was delicious, so I have to give cheers for the locally outsourced wonderfulness. Price-wise, I'd say it's overpriced, but essentially you're paying for the view. The cons: From where we sat, it was obvious our server had tables in several different directions. Seems she did the best she could with what she'd been given, but definitely not the best serving plan from mgmt and ordering was delayed. Not a big deal on a Thursday, but I could foresee this being a potential issue on a busier night. And the kicker: I'm not sure if the servers are tip pooled or not, but regardless, a few didn't seem to care about their visas or their money, as the display of haughtiness and arrogance was uncomfortable. It was evident one, (maybe 2) of the servers had an issue with a table, and the fact that we knew there was an issue was inappropriate. To make it worse, the one server didn't let it go, and continued throughout the course of our meal to parade around the area as if to appear intimidating and unfazed by the incident. The whole situation was stupidly uncomfortable. I wouldn't advocate for someone to lose their jobs, but this particular server didn't appear as if they would've cared regardless, and mgmt should've never let them remain on the clock with that behavior. Overall, it was a 3-star meal unnecessarily turned into a 2-star review. read more

Details, Service: We went there for our Anniversary, we even explained that to our server/bartender Emily. She didn't acknowledge or even show any emotion. Throughout our entire time there Emily seemed distracted and had an attitude as if we were bothering her by spending our hard earned money at this establishment she worked for. She didn't bring us our bread or even explain if there was a hold up in the kitchen. At times she wouldn't say anything to us. Food: My husband enjoyed his whitefish, mine on the other hand was salty half way through ( I just ordered lemon & pepper whitefish). The rice was served looking like a hockey puck which is fine, however, it tasted like it was one as well. The rice was undercooked and tough. We didn't receive our bread nor an apology on if there was a reason for it. So for the price we paid for this mediocre food, is a crime. Atmosphere: Due to our server/bartender having an attitude I overheard the couple at the next table pointing out her incorrect information and tone and that still didn't stop Emily. She put on a fake smile and didn't say much to them the rest of the time they were there. After going through and reading the reviews from different sources they all comment about the same thing with the server/ bartender, Emily. Being in the customer service industry I am shocked that she even still works there because she clearly has not changed her behavior/attitude in the last 4 months! My husband and I took a day date trip to Mackinac City yesterday and stopped by The Hook restaurant around 1230. We were promptly greeted by the hostess who sat us in the outside section, window view. Our server was absolutely incredible. He was prompt, delightful, and checked in on us in just right intervals (if you know you know!). But the FOOD. My husband and I are from the South, New Orleans, and that was the BEST crab cake on this planet. I am forever going to dream about that lemon vest whip. I am drooling now thinking about it. I ordered the coconut shrimp and my husband the ahi tuna and everything was absolutely DELICIOUS. The prices may make you hesitant to check this place out but TRUST ME IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. Absolutely would not recommend. As someone with celiac disease we asked our waitress if an appetizer was gluten free, she was adamant it was, turns out it wasn't. We were very disappointed the waitress didn't make any attempts to check the ingredients or ask the chef, when dealing with an important situation such as an autoimmune disease. We continued on with our dinner, the appetizer and fish were bland and sub par. The waitress only checked on our table once through the whole visit and it was a very slow evening for the establishment. We still wanted to tip as we know the importance of tipping in the food service industry. We left a 10% tip even though the service and food were not good. The waitress returned to our table and stated we could have our tip back as she doesn't accept tips that are below 15%. Absolutely will not be returning. read more

We arrived around 2 PM for a late lunch. The staff were very nice, and the view of the docks and lake from the restaurant is so pretty. We ordered two cocktails to start, the rum runner and the Michigan mule. Both were very good, on the sweeter side. We got an appetizer of a crab cake, which was a little disappointing to only get one for $13. It was very tasty though, as were the fish and chips. read more

Nice views of the lake, great location in downtown Mackinaw City, with amazing Bloody Mary's! We also really enjoyed the Michigan Mule, lobster bisque, and lobster roll! The bloody mary was super tasty with the right amount of spice and seasoning. The Michigan Mule was very unique and perfect for someone who loves the taste of artificial cherries. The lobster bisque was very good and creamy. The lobster roll had an abundance of lobster and sauce, but I usually prefer lobster rolls with larger chunks of lobster meat. The service was fast and there was lots of space for parking. The restaurant is on the second level and easily accessible by stairs or an elevator. We would've liked to see scallops on the menu, but overall, we loved the restaurant, food, and drinks! read more

We arrived at 11:30 for an early lunch. When we arrived one of the staff was moping the floor at the entrance, so we had to step through the wet floor, they open at 11. The bar tender just looked at us, no smile or greeting. We followed her to a window table, there was only one family in the entire restaurant. The bar tender laid the menus down and walked away without a word. Never a smile or "enjoy your lunch". We sat down and looked at the menu for a while, no server ever showed up. It was hot and stuffy in the room. The food was way over priced. We felt so uncomfortable we decided to leave without ever seeing a server. We walked right past the bar tender and she never said a word to us. The other employee was still moping the floor! We ended up going downtown for a lovely meal at Scalawags! I went in and I noticed that one stall was out of toilet paper, and the other stall was nearly out. When I was done, I went out and looked for my server and I tried to find him to mention it to him. I didn't see him right away, so I decided to bring it to the attention to the young lady behind the bar, so I told her. She told me that 'then you'd better go tell (I couldn't make out the person's name that she said)'. So I asked 'what did you say?', and she said 'that's ok. Thank you'. Maybe she was having a bad day, but isn't it a bit rude to direct a customer to go tell another employee about a restaurant issue? I'm thinking that I am doing a favor by mentioning it at all. I feel like she was being slighted by me even bringing it up, as if she can't manage to pass along this info to her co-worker - who has the power to correct it. . Just had dinner here. I ordered a bibb wedge salad. First photo shows what I got. This is NOT a wedge salad. Wedge defines how it's cut and served. I literally got 10 pieces of lettuce for $20. A wedge is packed lettuce. I think I got half as much as I would have. They used to serve a wedge salad. But THIS IS NOT IT!!! The whole mouth feel of a wedge is night and day than a regular salad. The broiled white fish is great. Also, try the lobster bisque- it is very tasty. On a slow day, but the service was still a little slow.

To start - the red flag. The hostess just stared at us until we said a party of 5 with a view. She sat us promptly but never said a word. Our server was scattered and could barely take a simple drink order - 2 sprites, 2 colas and a water. The chicken tenders were so overcooked they were not edible. The fish was terrible - definitely not fresh. The service was lousy- we saw our server twice - once to order and once to pay. Our meals were served a piece of paper - for $25+per meal, I should get at least a plastic plate and a glass of water. I strongly do not recommend. read more

When we walked in there was a large group of people waiting around the host stand. There was only seating at the bar. Bartender aka our server was not very attentive. Many people around were waiting for food. The other bartender was not to be seen but then was only seen flirting with guests. It took well over 40 min for our food (chicken tenders and three sides). When we got our food it was cold and not good. Seasoned rice was bad, Caesar salad would not recommend. All in all, don't go here! read more

Awesome seafood and a great inside atmosphere. The BEST place to eat in Mackinac City. We wanted to come here because it looked fairly new and had quite the flashy looks to it (inside and out). We also received a gift certificate to enjoy two free entrees for our anniversary (The Hook is part of the Mackinaw City Chamber of Tourism if you ever receive a gift certificate from the Chamber) This was our last thing that we were going to do before heading back to Metro Detroit, so my fiancé and I were hoping it would be great. We were knocked off of our feet to say the least, and it wasn't because of the wine and high top seating! We came in shortly after they opened. The restaurant was getting set up for the most part but they were still able to serve us and offer their full menu. My fiancé got the grilled shrimp with fries and grilled pineapple (pictured) and I got the lobster mac & cheese with green beans (pictured). Both dishes were excellent and quite filling, I had to take some of my mac and cheese home. I've never had that much lobster added to my mac and cheese before, I couldn't believe it. It looked like they had some pretty exciting desserts but we simply couldn't because we'd be falling asleep on the way home from our food coma. We definitely recommend stopping in to try this restaurant. They have tons of beverages to choose from (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) and great seafood options! In short over priced based on quality of food and service, but healthy portions and lovely views. Went to this place because it looked reasonable and was walking distance from our hotel. The staff was pleasant and we were seated by a window. The windows all have screens, but it is apparently very necessary as the harbor was TEAMING with mosquitos. None got through, so no complaints. Our server was nice, but she forgot bread and part of our order, but in the end was glad she did as the portion sizes were huge. The calamari was solid and was enough to fill me up before my entree arrived. I also ordered a cocktail and they were no stingy with the liquor. We had the whitefish ragoons and it was so yummy and a great change to the typical ragoon. Loved the idea! We had the fresh whitefish dinner with truffle fries, my friend got it with a baked potato. All combos were delicious!! The fish was so light and moist, this really is one of the best places to get Fresh Superior Whitefish and I'm so happy about that since you head north you're wanting fresh fish! My partner got the fish and chips and they were light and flaky cod. The breading also light in texture so it let the fish shine. He also substituted for truffle fries.... They were so good!!! It was an enjoyable experience, really great food, cool atmosphere and a bit on the pricey side so just keep that in mind. We will definitely be back and I think it's one of the top restaurants with food, alcohol and location! read more

Rude employees. When we arrived, no one was stationed at the door to weat us. After several minutes, an employee came by the bar. I asked if they were seating still and he said, you'll need to wait until someone can come and seat you. No one came by for several minutes. They weren't that busy. After being seated the service was extreme slow. When our crab cake arrived, no silverware. We immediately informed the server, and she said I'll be right back. She is disappeared only to return several minutes lat we with one fork for two people. We got up and got our own second fork. We spend two hours and could only get her to bring two beers for the two of us. Couldn't wait any longer to try and order more. Didn't waste your time here. There are much better places. read more

Calamari was greasy, over cooked, and tasteless. Carryout order was missing the aioli dipping sauce which might have made it palatable. Boneless Parmesan wings were basically chicken nuggets that had been waived in the vicinity of some sauce, and even then, flavorless and greasy again. The sweet potato fries were limp and cold after driving 2 minutes back to the marina and walking to my boat. By the time I discovered the problems, the restaurant was closed and no one would answer the phone. Not impressed at what $50 pays for here. read more

My sister and i did a mini vacation to Mackinac and wanted a nice dinner. We ordered the lobster poutine. I ordered the perch pan grilled and my sister ordered a steak. The poutine was meh I wouldn't order it again but I ate it. The steak was good. My pan grilled fish was disgusting. It had no seasoning and all you can taste is the bitterness from the pan. I took 1 bite and couldn't eat it anymore. My sis took a bite and confirmed it was not good. Waiter saw that I wasn't eating my dish and asked. I told him but said I don't want to replace it since I was full of the poutine. Manager was rude, didn't comp it. He apologized that the food was bad but just walked away. It was a vacay so I didn't want to stress about it but honestly I don't think i will go back there. The steak was good- my sis ate it all and I tried it and liked it.
