I was there earlier today and ordered the poutine. The tots were charred/burnt, and barely saw any gravy and cheese. I had to request to have them remake it. The second round, the tots were fine but honestly, the food was disgusting. Small portion and not worth $15. If I go back, I definitely won't be ordering poutine. read more

More like 2.5 stars. The atmosphere is great. The service is nice. The beers were fine. The food was absolutely terrible. If the food was 100 times better we'd be there all the time - probably multiple times a week. Since the food is so bad, though, we will probably just go once in a while for a beer or something. I'm posting this with the hope that they will get a real chef who makes great food with a great menu. Bar food doesn't have to mean sloppy soupy macaroni with cheap cheese, greasy flavorless wings and tater tots that were likely from a frozen bag lol. They don't even try with their sauces... just Tabasco sauce, ranch and a gross, boring Mayo dip. I can make better food at home. It's so frustrating because Poway deserves better restaurants, and we have too many of these places which serve the most basic food with no flavor at all. This place has the most incredible staff who are kind and patient with our children every time we go. Taco Tuesday is our favorite. Happy hour is a great deal. They are fast, family oriented, outstanding service and great food at a reasonable price with an outdoor seating area. A Poway gem for sure! read more

What a hidden gem! We were looking for a restaurant with outdoor dining that would be great for adults and kids. The Hop Stop was definitely that place! We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night and it was already pretty busy. There is some indoor seating and mostly outdoor picnic tables. You order drinks and food at the bar then it's brought to your table. We had the pretzel, ceviche, and wings for apps. We tried multiple things on the menu and it was all great! Tons of local beer on tap and a reasonable wine selection too. You won't be disappointed with The Hop Stop! read more

My friend and I went to the Hop Stop last night and were surprised that they are still requiring food orders with every drink order even though that is not a COVID rule anymore. The staff working were very nice and the naked wings were tasty however the dirty tots were gross. The topping on top of the tots was a weird pale yellow color and it tasted of flour and horseradish. When we were served food we were never brought plates, silverware or napkins and there wasn't a server that would come and check on us, We had to keep getting up to go to the bar, wait in line repeatedly, and ask for what we needed. When I asked for ranch dressing I was told to walk over to the kitchen window on the other side of the restaurant. This was just frustrating and a poor customer experience. We returned the tots because they were inedible. When the manager came over to talk to us she was confrontational and unapologetic. The hop stop has a nice set up but they are missing the mark in terms of food and customer experience. read more

What a fun place!! I absolutely love the atmosphere and the outdoor seating is wonderful. It is kid friendly here but also a place to drink and kick back. The pretzel was delicious and their house made sauce was something else, I honestly couldnt name one ingredient in it but it was amazing. 2 star instead of one because the beer is great but the food is just glorified bar food. It looks pretty but tastes horrible. Every time I've come here the chicken has been cold in the middle, whether it's tenders or the boneless wings, it's always cold. The pizza tastes like gas station frozen pizza you heat up there as well. The ceviche is really missing any type of flavor especially lime. The corn dogs are missing flavor and typically come out cold as well. When you bring up the issue to the staff they go from kind to annoyed really quick. Even the owner isn't that kind and is off putting. We booked a large party and mentioned there will be about 6 kids in the party. We requested to be placed by the turf area so we can keep an eye on the kids while they play. They confirmed our request and when we arrived not only did they not put us near the turf area, they put us on the opposite side and the table closest to midland where there is zero view of the turf area. When I brought this up they said "oh, a little league made a reservation so we gave them the table closest to the turf." We asked if we could be moved and the owner suggested the tall tables but there were only enough for the adults. I mentioned this and she said, "well, the kids will be playing so it will be fine." No, it will not be fine because they need to eat, but we digressed and decided to sit there. As we walk over we noticed drinks and a cell phone. I told her it looked like people were already sitting there and we got an incredibly blank stare and she said "oh. Ok". Finally we asked if she would be willing to move the rotary club table to where she put us and she finally agreed. Not desirable but it worked. Unless I'm coming here to meet up with friends for a drink I will stay away from this place. The owner is incredibly rude and just doesn't care, the food sucks, and the staff gets annoyed when you ask them to fix the problem they created. It's very unfortunate considering Poway doesn't have many kid friendly places with good food. If a place ever opens that is comparable to Hop Stop, I fear this place will shut down unless they fix the customer service and food issues. Stay away unless you're looking for a place to just have a quality beer at and nothing else. read more

I won't be back. I tried twice. First time. Ok for bar food. Limited selection of beer. Food didn't set right with me. But...ok COVID...., Everyone is trying their best. Support poway business etc etc. Second time. 1 hour wait for appetizers. I get it...$hit happens but you have to at least make a gesture of apology. Bar staff shrugged her shoulders and said "oh, we've had issues with the computers." I brought friends this time and frankly, I was embarrassed that I recommended this place. We all left and had our dinner elsewhere. Comp me the cold fries at least. I try to keep my business in poway but the long lines to get in will disappear if you don't at least try to make it right. Excellent burger, fries and service. First time going there and had one of the best burgers in a long time. The French fries were just out of the fryer. I judge a place on how hot their French fries are and they were super. The burger had great flavor on a brioche bun with fresh tomato and lettuce. Brandon prepared our food and was just all around a great person. Everyone there was great. I can wait to go back again. The outdoor atmosphere is wonderful. I wish we had gone there soon. I've been to the Hop Stop a couple of times, looking for a chill, relaxed place with good beer and food menus - I found all that and more.  Both of my visits included friends, a mix of beer and non-beer drinkers.  Between the many beer, cider, hard seltzer and wine options, everyone found something they enjoyed.  The food menu was just as varied and everything that we ordered was fantastic.   I particularly enjoyed the Hop Stop burger and wings, both seasoned well and cooked perfectly.   The service we received both times was on point.  The bartenders and food runners were very attentive and professional.  I appreciated the food runners coming back to check on us and asking if we needed anything else from the kitchen.  In addition to the great food and drink menus, the outdoor space is really conducive for hanging out with friends and family.  Lot's of tables to sit at, we never had to wait for seating, despite there being a steady flow of people coming and going.  Waits at the bar were short and the staff was super friendly.  I can see this place easily becoming a favorite, especially as we head into spring and summer.   Great job Hop Stop, and see you soon! read more

I love this place. The food os great, Come for the food but stay for the diverse beer selection and amazing staff. Rebecca and Mark are extremely passionate about their business and the Poway community. They are locals and know everyone, and if you visit enough so will you. The Hop Stop is an extension of my home. I enjoy going there with lots of friends or by myself. Finally if you are a craft beer junky or a novice you are going to love THS. Rebecca is as knowledgable as anyone and she has done a great job of transferring her knowledge and experience to Mark and the staff members. I went here with my family, we sat outside and it was pretty good. I ordered the Chicken Birria Sandwich, which i wasn't very happy about since i wanted beef but they didn't have, it cam with au jus, but the chicken in the sandwich was so bland and it was horrible i stopped eating it cause it was so bad. My other family members got The HopStop Burger, he said it was so bland and the meat was bad. And the other person got the Chili cheese fries which were sooo good. Service was good. The concept for a joint like this isn't new, but they execute it well. You walk in and are at the counter area. Order your beer and food, then head out back to outdoor (mostly covered) picnic tables and proceed to enjoy your day. The beer offerings were varied. The food was mostly average - pub-like. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The parking could be problematic at some point, as you have to fight for a spot on the street. Again, this place isn't unique by any means, but I like that there's one in Poway! read more

Our fav food here is the Cali black bean burger with a side of sweet potato fries but our guilty pleasure is their tater tots. They're so good! Don't forget to order with a side of Hop Stop sauce!! We stopped in to have lunch - it is the perfect spot to sit outside for lunch! Once again the wings were perfect - and the three dipping sauces. I also had the meatball sub with tots. Everyone ordered something different and said the food was all so very good (as well as the beer and wines offered). The owner and her staff were very friendly and very attentive.
