Tucked away in the heart of old town Poway, we stumbled upon this hidden gem, The Hop Stop, after a show. Arriving around 7 on a rainy Saturday night, we found shelter in the well-organized space, opting for a cozy spot at the bar since the outdoor seating was drenched. Despite the potential parking issues (which we barely noticed in our rush to get inside), the ambiance was very nice once we settled in. Two friendly bartenders, maybe owners, took the time to guide us through beer choices and menu options despite the busy crowd. While a slight delay was expected given the bar's busyness, our food arrived promptly, and the drinks flowed smoothly. Speaking of drinks, we opted for The Hop Stop blonde, a delightful collaboration with Karl Strauss, and the Chai Me a River, bursting with chai goodness. Both were light and refreshing. Our shared Cheesesteak with sweet waffle fries hit the spot. While the cheesesteak didn't break any culinary boundaries, it delivered a satisfying mix of meat, veggies, and gooey cheese--nothing flashy, but certainly not disappointing. In the end, The Hop Stop proved to be a charming spot for drinks and bites. Despite the average cheesesteak, the overall experience was a positive one, leaving us with the desire to return for another round. Another great experience at The Hop Stop!!! I've been going to this neighborhood bar/café since they opened their doors a year and half ago and am so happy they were able to weather the covid storm. It cannot be easy opening a business with so many public restrictions and private concerns. The owners have proven to be adaptable and open minded, frequently changing the food & beer menu and recently adding tables, seating, live music, add'l heat lamps and increasing their staff etc... They have a well rounded beer selection but nothing beats the environment. Open, airy, CASUAL and dog friendly. Super chill place to meet your buddies and watch a game or bring the family for lunch. Last week about 30 of us attended a friends bday gathering, the owners were accommodating, dedicating enough space for our large group, everyone had a blast. The Hop Stop looks to be the cornerstone of a revitalized Old Poway, with plenty of local shops and other mom-n-pop eateries within walking distance. Prime location too, smack dab in the middle of Poway Farmer's Market and right across the street from Old Poway Park. Their popularity is on the rise so go check this place out before you're the last to know. Looking forward to my next pint. read more

Following a San Diego State softball game with friends and family, I was thoroughly impressed and highly recommend this establishment. He said, "where would I be keeping all these chairs?" I said, "I don't know. Maybe you can tell me." He then walked away without taking my order. I had to chase him down and his attitude worsened. I asked him who he reports to and he said he reports to himself. He then told me I was about to make this day bad for everyone. I said I was just trying to order a beer and asked if you had more chairs and then you started giving me an attitude, and I don't understand why. Finally, he apologized and took my order. But this was really uncalled for. Firstly, they need to have more chairs Secondly, they should not allow people to take chairs from tables so that the rest of their patrons are standing up for three hours. Many of the people just had extra chairs that they were saving for I don't know who, but there were a lot of empty chairs The server could've told me that he was sorry that they were out of chairs, but a lot of people were saving them further could've asked people to give up their chairs that they weren't using. Instead, he tried to make me feel stupid for asking this question. It's my first time here and most likely my last. I'm really disappointed with the way I was treated here. The server was a middle-aged man with gray mohawk looking curly hair.
