Great food, although they are known for their poutine, we didn't try it-it's just not our thing-didn't realize there could be some many versions of poutine! Definitely a popular spot and popular item, as we saw many plates pass by us on the way to tables. Pierogis we're another poplar item on the menu as we saw many of those pass by, too-looked delicious but again, didn't try. I had the hummus with veggies for an appetizer, it was delicious! Hearty serving of fresh made hummus and nice variety of fresh veggies to dip. I then had a basic salad with grape vinaigrette, crumbly blue-again, all ingredients were fresh and delicious! My husband had the marinated olives for an app and Thai chicken peanut lettuce wraps for his meal (actually an appetizer). Olives were warmed and husband really enjoyed them. I've never seen Thai peanut sauce like this-it was more like PB with sugar, like frosting or filling for a dessert, very thick, had to spread it?! Three starts feels like the perfect rating here - nothing was bad, but nothing was exceptionally good. I did enjoy the outdoor atmosphere. There was music that was pleasant enough to listen to and fit the ambiance. Our service was pretty slow but friendly so call that a wash. We got an appetizer of the fried green tomatoes - far too overpriced for the quantity and quality of what you got. As for dinner my girlfriend and I each got a burger with poutine on the side. I got a burger with apples, bacon, and a cranberry aioli on it and I appreciated the unique flavor combination and I enjoyed the flavor. However I ordered my burger medium-rare and it was medium-well at least, probably closer to well-done. The poutine was solid. I liked their fries, the gravy had good flavor, the "cheese curds" were just some kind of shredded cheese that wasn't at all melted - that aspect could have been better. It was the only place open in Clayton when we went, so we decided to give it a try. We had our one and a half year old with us. We were told they'd bring us a kids menu and when after waiting for 30 minutes without so much as a drink order taken, the waitress asked if we were ready, we asked about the kids menu but not wanting to take a chance of her disappearing again, I asked "can you just tell me if there is Mac and cheese on the kids menu?" She said "yeah. We can do a kids Mac and cheese." We again waited forever for our food. When it came out my toddler was served a searing hot skillet full of Mac and cheese with a side of French fries which the waitress spilled on the ground next to our table (which were never cleaned up throughout our visit.) When the bill finally came she had charged us $17 for the Mac and cheese. That is not a kids meal. And had we been told that or told there was no kids meal, we would have adjusted our plans accordingly. After having a toddler run out of patience because the wait was so long, we decided to just leave. It was not a pleasant experience that we ended up paying about $75 for. read more

They also have a vegan and gluten free menu so if you have some dietary restrictions, they've got you covered. This place is absolutely phenomenal. About 16 of us were on a wine tour and our scheduled stop for lunch wasn't able to accommodate us. Walking by, we were drawn to the beautiful house on the corner with a nice outdoor space. The menu is posted right outside which was helpful as well. My husband and I were so excited when we learned that The Hops Spot opened a location in Clayton (where we frequently vacation). After visiting the Syracuse location we knew the new spot in Clayton would be great. Unfortunately, not so much. We were in town celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted picked the hops spot for our dinner. We checked the website before going, to be sure they were open. We arrived around 4:30 on Sunday and while it seemed a little empty we noticed a loud crowed having fun at the outdoor bar. We waited at the host stand, when a guy at the bar turns around and shouted at it "uhhhh we are closed!" And then the laughed! The bar tender then shouted... "Yeah we just changed to the fall hours." I replied saying that we checked online and their website is wrong then. She shrugged and we left. I am not sure if we will really ever consider going back after this experience. We were offended at how the staff communicated with us and honestly it felt like we were interrupting their private drinking session. I would have felt much better if someone came over to us and explained rather than shouting and then laughing about it. read more

I have been there four times. (Not a 1 and done and judge them). We walked out twice. One time we ate cold food that was not our correct order. (After waiting for our order for nearly an hour we ate what we received. In the rain without being asked if they could move us under cover). This last time is unbelievable!!!! We were told that there would be a 15 minute wait for a table. Our group was NOT in a hurry and agreed. We ASKED if we could wait at the bar and have a drink. That was okayed by the hostess. We found a table and again ASKED if we could sit there. Again she agreed. We waited for 25-30 minutes for anyone to ask for our drink order. When we approached the bar tender he asked if we wanted food or drinks. We said both. The hostess then comes over after 10 more minutes and brings menus and place settings. Here is the problem she approaches us like we are 4 years old and explained how the bar tenders server both food and drinks. ( ok I am an adult and eat out regularly) she was VERY VERY RUDE!!! I was insulted as were two others in our party. The ladies told this person she was out of line. I love Clayton and local businesses. I hope the owners will do some training for their employees. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. To restate that I have given them multiple chances. They suck!!! read more

Returned here after walking by the previous day as it had a good vibe and I liked the menu after viewing it. Ordered Duck wings (chili lime) and a Burger with beer cheese and bacon on a pretzel roll (I was kind of excited about the combo). We also ordered classic poutine, fried green tomato club and the Beer Battered Haddock Sandwich. When my burger arrived I noticed it was on a brioche roll so I questioned the waitress. She said "sorry, we haven't had the pretzel roll all summer". That was it. No additional conversation whether I wanted to change my selection, order something different? Then never came back to check if the rest of the family's food was ok until we were almost done. To be honest, she probably didn't want to hear that mine wasn't ok. The rest of the family enjoyed their meal, and I probably would have have too, but the experience disappointed me. I guess my expectations were too high? It really should be simpler than this. If you change a menu item, then reprint your menu or tell the customer BEFORE they order that something has changed. That goes for the 2.5% up charge for using your credit card too. It's those little things that can make or break a customer's experience. You need to be better than that. read more
