One of the best places we have stopped for breakfast. Normal the "hole in the wall" or "mom & pop" can go one of two ways, poor quality accepted by the locals or something that should be critically acclaimed. The horseshoe is the later, amazing service and amazing food. The portions are big enough, so mind the little ones in your group. The biscuits and gravy was the best I have had; if I taste the baking soda it's a turn off, this was light and fluffy. The gravy was smooth and creamy, not a lump in it to be found. The service by Ashley was 1st rate, she did little things like she brought the whipped cream can to our table. She was very personable and made us feel like we were at her kitchen table. Ate dinner there Friday and Saturday, 9/1 & 9/2. Had breaded fish and onion rings instead of fries. Very good. Good portions (2 good size fillets, well cooked, tasty and tender), o-rings had a delicious batter. They were top notch. Got there at 4:45 so no wait but they filled up fast. Order came fast and just as we ordered. Fresh pies looked fabulous but did not partake. Waitress (Jennifer) super attentive. Saturday, I returned and tried the small prime rib. I'm sure glad I did not order the large! It was a huge portion. Cooked as I requested. I found it to have more grizzle than I normally expect in Prime Rib but overall, I was not unhappy. Really perfect creamy horseradish sauce, Au juice, mashed potatoes and gravy were outstanding and the cowboy beans were very, very tasty! Again, Jennifer was our waitress and did an outstanding job in spite of having another table of 4 and one of 6. I'm going to be a regular. So far food is great and service is equal. Ambiance is hometown cooking and friendly. Wait staff in jeans or shorts. This establishment has a long history and many interesting pictures on the walls depicting that history. Had a great breakfast here the other day... first time here after living down the I10 in Vail for 15 years. I had cycled through all the breakfast joints in Benson through the years, apparently saving the best for last! Very busy, but we were seated within 10 minutes. Our server was on point and was over within 5 minutes to take our order. I had the bacon/eggs and biscuit/gravy combo. I gotta say, their bacon is the good kind -- quality for you bacon aficionado's like me. The biscuit and gravy was delicious! I am not a big biscuit/gravy person like some people I know but their biscuit was gargantuan and the gravy was savory and yummy. I am perplexed by the mixed reviews... I like to cut restaurants slack when they are busy or short staffed. Perhaps that is the issue with the people having less than stellar experiences. read more

A tad late on this review. But, better late, than never. After checking out of my motel on the way to Georgia, I had planned on going back to the Denny's where I had dinner the night before, when I noticed this little place that had a good crowd. So, since I prefer independent restaurants, over the big chain places, I decided to check it out. When I was seated, the waitress took my order of 2 eggs overeasy, hash browns, toast, small milk and a small OJ. One nice thing about most small towns, and the independent stores, most customers and staff are very friendly. Another waitress walked by my table, and gave me a smile, and a hello. The food was nice and hot all around 8-) , and the milk and juice nice and cold. 8-) My only complaint is that the small milk was the same 6 oz size as the OJ. :-o I have never seen that before. And, for $1.99, ouch! But, overall, the price is pretty good. Though, nowhere near their 1936 opening prices. ;-) read more

Service was poor. We were a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 kids. We were seated right away. We were given adult menus but no kid menus and told they would come right back with them. It took a reminder and a good 10 or more minutes to get them. It took another 40 minutes or so to have someone come take our order. Then we waited and waited while we watched other patrons come , get served and leave. One party of about 10 came in right around the time we came in. They were served food and left before we even got food. We asked about our food twice and both times were told there was one ticket before ours. When we pointed out the group that had come, eaten and already left, we were told it was because they had a reservation. Almost two hours later we finally got our food which was luke warm. We do not recommend this restaurant. Eat somewhere else that they care about service and good food. read more

This old-town restaurant is in a historic building that housed a gambling hall prior to being outlawed in Arizona. The scratch made food is flavorful and comes in generous portions. Breakfast is not available after 11:00 am on Sundays. The kitchen was unwilling to serve breakfast at 11:03 am, yet, there were plenty of tables is waiting for their breakfast orders to come out, so the kitchen was obviously still cooking breakfast. We will not patronize this establishment again. There are a lot of reviews complaining about breakfast stopping abruptly at 11:00 am. You would think that the new ownership would care about customer feedback and make adjustments to their operations. This was definitely not small town hospitality. read more

My friend and I had breakfast there yesterday morning. I have eaten here several times before and ALWAYS received excellent food and service. Not so yesterday. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server was a lovely young lady named Diana, who saw to our beverage needs quickly. She took our order and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. However, both meals were cold. Diana apologized and offered to either microwave the food or have new meals cooked. Sadly, even warmed up the food was abysmal. CFS was VERY TOUGH. We've eaten here twice while visiting the Benson area, once for dinner and once for breakfast, and were pleased with our visit both times. For both visits we had friendly and attentive servers who were knowledgeable about the food and drink menu. For our dinner visit I had the Beef Stroganoff with a dinner salad. The salad was fresh and crispy and was a nice size. The Beef stroganoff had a nice, buttery flavor with tender beef. The portion was large, and I ended up taking some home in a box. For breakfast I had the eggs and corned beef. It wasn't the best corned beef, but it was good. My wife enjoyed her pancakes, and said they were nice and fluffy. Coffee cups were kept full as we ate. Prices were fair, the restaurant was clean, and service was good. We enjoyed our meals. read more

Driving through this small town on our way to Bisbee and stopped for dinner. We were not disappointed! I recommend the jalapeño poppers - it's jalapeños with cream cheese wrapped with crispy crispy bacon. Those were so amazing! We also ordered some salads I had a Caesar salad with steak on top. The steak was a little tough but that could have been because it was on a bed of salad. We also ordered a chicken club salad with extra chicken. The chicken on the salad was amazing!! Went in for Friday fish fry, wasn't busy but took way to long to get seated. Ordered the fish fry special, it came out quickly but was very greasy. The fish although greasy was tasty and hot. The tartar sauce was below average. The worst part were the French fries. One of the easiest things to make fresh crispy and delicious just happened to be terrible. Pretty sure they were fried off then refried to make them so greasy they were hard to even eat one. Never could understand why restaurants that are not busy can't make fries correctly. My brother and I rolled into Benson okay for a reunion this weekend. Checking the listings for dinner and spotted The Horseshoe! We were greeted by friendly staff and sat in a booth. Server amazing friendly and fun. We both ordered sirloin steaks, baked potatoes and were blown away by the quality, presentation and amazing flavor.clearly a local hangout because soon the dining room was busy. I ordered the eggs benedict with a coffee. I wish I could brag about this historic place but I wasn't a fan. It just wasn't my cup of tea. The service wasn't the best and idk of us having a huge party impacted that. Some of our guests didn't get to order their food so that upset them. I arrived to this coffee and bakery place about 15 minutes past 11 craving some breakfast just to find out that I was a little too late to the party. Instead, I ordered the wrangler burger which I would highly recommend. Such a homey and yummy burger with crispy fries on the side. Perfect pit stop for I-10 drivers! August 30 and 31st 2023 The Horseshoe Café & Saloon on Benson Arizona. This place is under new management about six weeks ago and is now a gem of a local restaurant. We stopped here in Benson for two nights in our RV and found this place for both dinner last night and breakfast this morning. Everything on the menu is just great! This is what you should expect on a small-town local place. Service for Outstanding, food quality and portions are far above anyplace we have stopped at in years. New Owner/Manager knows how to do it right and I told the new owner last night he is doing it right. The employees who are from previous owner say it is a big change on how it is run and he takes care of his employees. So if you are in the area of Benson AZ it is located a short distance off of I-10 on the south side. Thank you to all the employees and new owner for a great little GEM in Benson. This will continue to be our stop any time we're here overnight. read more
