Big Nose Kate's is a fun place! The bar and flooring on one half of the bar are the originals. They did a great job restoring everything (there was a fire that took out the top floor of the old Grand Hotel). You can sit for hours and take in the pictures and memorabilia (we did haha). There's a gift shop down stairs near the old mine shaft (they're pretty expensive but it's a neat shop.) We were there for an early dinner. The big 24oz "Big Ass Beer" is only $10! I had the Tombstone Tea (basically an spiked Arnold Palmer - very good!). We shared a burger. It was big! Well cooked and plenty of fries. It was karaoke night. Big Nose Kate's is a place I stop at every time I'm in Tombstone. The service has been great every visit I've had, the drinks are good and cheap. Between the live music and the old historic vibe, I think it's one of the coolest experiences in town! The history behind the place is also really interesting. It's the second-oldest restaurant in Arizona and opened in 1880. The building used to be the Grand Hotel before it burned down in 1882 & was rebuilt, and there's a lot of history connected to it. The food isn't luxury dining, but I've never been disappointed with a burger or sandwich with some onion rings (really tasty btw). My girlfriend also loves the Macho Nachos. I'd have to say that if for no reason other than atmosphere alone, Big Nose Kate's Saloon earns its five stars! Even on a Tuesday afternoon in mid-April, this joint was bustling with live music, servers rushing about in their period costumes, and the chatter of happy patrons enjoying themselves and taking it all in. Whether a lover of frontier history, western cinema, or just plain ol' drinking in a genuine saloon, Big Nose Kate's screams, "WELCOME TO THE TOWN TOO TOUGH TO DIE!" Upon entering, our party was seated in a raised section above the main floor near the front windows. It was an excellent spot to see all the action (including a monitor playing the movie Tombstone, BTW) as we perused the menu of appetizers, entrees, and libations. The selection of specialty drinks was impressive, though I opted for a simple "Big Ass" draft pilsner (flavorful and locally brewed). My wife did order a Cowboy Sangria - and it appears wimpy drinks "don't go around here, Law Dog," because she thought it was good but a bit too strong. I actually had to finish it for her. (Such a chivalrous sacrifice!) But don't assume that Kate's is just a drinking establishment; there's quite a variety of eats, as well. Good-sized, tasty looking burgers and sandwiches passed by our table, which were tempting; however, not being overly hungry, we decided to sample a few of their appetizers as we moved on to another round of beers. The Buffalo Wings were good but nothing really special. The Soft Pretzel Basket - actually one HUGE pretzel served with cheese and mustard sauces - was warm, salty, and much bigger than anyone anticipated. It was enjoyed by our entire table. When visiting, don't neglect a trip to the gift shop, which can be accessed from a spiral staircase right in the center of the dining area. Their menu recounts that a part of this underground area was once the abode of the saloon's swamper, and you can even view his living cubby and mining tunnel when below. Of course, there's lots of branded swag available for sale down there, too! Big Nose Kate's Saloon is a must-see stop for Tombstone visitors. Priced aren't exorbitant, portions are generous, and the food and drinks are pretty darned good, as was evident from the satisfied looks of the diners and drinkers around us . You may even be approached by Steve, who offers FREE photos (from your personal camera or phone) with props and piano-top poses - now how can you beat that value? Our early evening meal here was enjoyable. The menu explains the history of the place and the building. It looks like they were setting up for some live music later in the evening. Our server was friendly and checked in on us regularly. We got three sandwiches. One was a burger with a side salad, one the pastrami with a side salad, and a Reuben with an upgrade to onion rings. The food all tasted good. I would recommend that the kitchen makes sure the side salads are the same size. Our table had two and one was significantly smaller than the other. And we didn't get many onion rings for the additional charge of the upgrade. The meat was all tender. I would've preferred sourdough for my bread, but what they came on was ok. We regularly take out-of-town visitors to Tombstone, and when we do we always have lunch at Big Nose Kate's. Love the decor, the wait staff in period costumes, the live music, and they don't gouge you for the price of food. Their burgers (see photo) really are pretty good though you can only get them cooked well-done. You often see the actors for the shootout having lunch in here or coming in to stir up some business for the re-enactment. Do visit the gift shop downstairs, they have nice postcards, etc. This place does get busy, so if you visit in peak season you may want to come in during off-hours so you don't have to wait for a table. read more

This saloon on historic Allen Street in Tombstone served up a beautiful dining area, great service from the wait staff (in historic attire), live music, great food, reasonable prices and a full bar. Step downstairs to see the gift shop and the former janitor's mineshaft entrance. My Curly Bill's brisket dinner was served with a smile just 10 minutes after I ordered at the table. Atmosphere is awesome! My waitress Jasmin was dressed authenticly and cute and helpful. The food was good and very fast service. The pictures hung around the establishment where authentic and of current day dressed up locals in authentic attire for the 1800s.. so much charm and a live band after 5 o'clock. The movie "Tombstone" was being streamed nonstop in the restaurant. It's a bustling atmosphere with waiters and waitresses dressed in the 1800 era. Made it feel like a current day open live saloon. We popped in Tombstone just after 5. Most shops close about 5, leaving just a few restaurants/bars open. We parked in a lot off of the main street, and walked our way in. We made our way to Big Nose Kate's, and we were seated. There is plenty to look at in this restaurant. Our server came and took our drink orders. A few of us in our party ordered food. The food came out quickly and it looked delicious. The server kept our glasses full. There a few spots in the restaurant where live music can be played, but we didn't have any of that on this visit. Stopped in here while visiting tombstone. It was interesting. The staff were dressed up in the era of the saloon. They had entertainment with a guy playing a portable piano. It was a little loud but nice getting out of the summer heat. I had the patty melt which was okay. I believe it was a premade burger and nothing special with the fries. We ended our day in Historic Tombstone here. There are many ghosts here, and we met two, both non-sentient residual entities. We tried to meet the poltergeist in the basement, but the restaurant was too busy to indulge us. We'll return someday to try and communicate with the spirit of the dead man found in a secret room down below the cellar. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and we had a light dinner with a simple, handmade cheese pizza. Our server was attentive, and we chatted pleasantly for a short while before the pizza arrived. On my trip to the men's room, I felt a presence in the hallway beyond the dining area and looked back to see a shadow on the wall, a shape like an adult male with a slender build. Nothing cast that shadow. It moved as though turning toward me, but dissipated like smoke rising from the wall as a woman left the ladies' room. She was shocked by my expression and apologized for startling me. :) I went to the bar to see if I could buy a t-shirt and excused myself as I walked around a cowboy at the bar. When I turned to look him in the eye for my apology, he was gone, leaving behind a Big Nose Kate's shot glass, which I promptly bought. Meeting the owner of 60 years. You'll get a History lesson like you could not find in Tombstone. He is a walking encyclopedia of Tombstone history. Prince of a man. Very accommodating and friendly. We visited with him for a good 30 plus minutes. My friend had a burger and fries. Very good. I ordered the Calzone. Big mistake. It was not good at all. I suggest if you don't order a burger. Big Nose Kate's is a historic Saloon in Tombstone. It's really cute inside and you really feel like you've stepped back in time. The staff are all in period appropriate outfits and it's decorated from floor to ceiling. The staff were super friendly and service was pretty quick. We happened on karaoke night so it was mostly locals, which was fun to watch watch. The food was OK, not great. I'd give that a 3 star. It's pricey for the portions as it's fairly small. Nothing was great but it was all edible. We tried a burger and the cheesesteak. It was really cute to eat here, but I probably wouldn't be back as the food just wasn't great.
