Big Nose Kate's is a place I stop at every time I'm in Tombstone. The service has been great every visit I've had, the drinks are good and cheap. Between the live music and the old historic vibe, I think it's one of the coolest experiences in town! The history behind the place is also really interesting. It's the second-oldest restaurant in Arizona and opened in 1880. The building used to be the Grand Hotel before it burned down in 1882 & was rebuilt, and there's a lot of history connected to it. I'd have to say that if for no reason other than atmosphere alone, Big Nose Kate's Saloon earns its five stars! Even on a Tuesday afternoon in mid-April, this joint was bustling with live music, servers rushing about in their period costumes, and the chatter of happy patrons enjoying themselves and taking it all in. Whether a lover of frontier history, western cinema, or just plain ol' drinking in a genuine saloon, Big Nose Kate's screams, "WELCOME TO THE TOWN TOO TOUGH TO DIE!" Upon entering, our party was seated in a raised section above the main floor near the front windows. It was an excellent spot to see all the action (including a monitor playing the movie Tombstone, BTW) as we perused the menu of appetizers, entrees, and libations. The selection of specialty drinks was impressive, though I opted for a simple "Big Ass" draft pilsner (flavorful and locally brewed). My wife did order a Cowboy Sangria - and it appears wimpy drinks "don't go around here, Law Dog," because she thought it was good but a bit too strong. I actually had to finish it for her. (Such a chivalrous sacrifice!) But don't assume that Kate's is just a drinking establishment; there's quite a variety of eats, as well. Good-sized, tasty looking burgers and sandwiches passed by our table, which were tempting; however, not being overly hungry, we decided to sample a few of their appetizers as we moved on to another round of beers. The Buffalo Wings were good but nothing really special. The Soft Pretzel Basket - actually one HUGE pretzel served with cheese and mustard sauces - was warm, salty, and much bigger than anyone anticipated. It was enjoyed by our entire table. When visiting, don't neglect a trip to the gift shop, which can be accessed from a spiral staircase right in the center of the dining area. Their menu recounts that a part of this underground area was once the abode of the saloon's swamper, and you can even view his living cubby and mining tunnel when below. Of course, there's lots of branded swag available for sale down there, too! Big Nose Kate's Saloon is a must-see stop for Tombstone visitors. Priced aren't exorbitant, portions are generous, and the food and drinks are pretty darned good, as was evident from the satisfied looks of the diners and drinkers around us . The ambiance is nice. Being a Monday night it was still pretty busy. The museum place in the basement was closed... We only had drinks, they were merely OK. We had the "Big Nose Kate's special cocktail which is basically a Long Island but with orange juice. They were so weak you could barely taste any alcohol. The service was good. read more

Our early evening meal here was enjoyable. The menu explains the history of the place and the building. It looks like they were setting up for some live music later in the evening. Our server was friendly and checked in on us regularly. We got three sandwiches. One was a burger with a side salad, one the pastrami with a side salad, and a Reuben with an upgrade to onion rings. The food all tasted good. I would recommend that the kitchen makes sure the side salads are the same size. Our table had two and one was significantly smaller than the other. And we didn't get many onion rings for the additional charge of the upgrade. The meat was all tender. I would've preferred sourdough for my bread, but what they came on was ok. We popped in Tombstone just after 5. Most shops close about 5, leaving just a few restaurants/bars open. We parked in a lot off of the main street, and walked our way in. We made our way to Big Nose Kate's, and we were seated. There is plenty to look at in this restaurant. Our server came and took our drink orders. A few of us in our party ordered food. The food came out quickly and it looked delicious. The server kept our glasses full. There a few spots in the restaurant where live music can be played, but we didn't have any of that on this visit. We regularly take out-of-town visitors to Tombstone, and when we do we always have lunch at Big Nose Kate's. Love the decor, the wait staff in period costumes, the live music, and they don't gouge you for the price of food. Their burgers (see photo) really are pretty good though you can only get them cooked well-done. You often see the actors for the shootout having lunch in here or coming in to stir up some business for the re-enactment. Do visit the gift shop downstairs, they have nice postcards, etc. This place does get busy, so if you visit in peak season you may want to come in during off-hours so you don't have to wait for a table. read more

This saloon on historic Allen Street in Tombstone served up a beautiful dining area, great service from the wait staff (in historic attire), live music, great food, reasonable prices and a full bar. Step downstairs to see the gift shop and the former janitor's mineshaft entrance. My Curly Bill's brisket dinner was served with a smile just 10 minutes after I ordered at the table. Atmosphere is awesome! My waitress Jasmin was dressed authenticly and cute and helpful. The food was good and very fast service. The pictures hung around the establishment where authentic and of current day dressed up locals in authentic attire for the 1800s.. so much charm and a live band after 5 o'clock. This is a must stop spot in Tombstone. Is it a little kitschy? Absolutely but isn't that the best?! Food came out fresh and popping hot. We started with Dried Zucchini. The ranch was homemade and creamy and delicious. We had several dishes the Rueben, the pastrami sandwich, a Cobb salad and chicken tenders. Everyone was happy with their food. There is a gift shop and an area talking about a miner from the area who had guarded his silver and could still haunt the place. We ended our day in Historic Tombstone here. There are many ghosts here, and we met two, both non-sentient residual entities. We tried to meet the poltergeist in the basement, but the restaurant was too busy to indulge us. We'll return someday to try and communicate with the spirit of the dead man found in a secret room down below the cellar. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and we had a light dinner with a simple, handmade cheese pizza. Our server was attentive, and we chatted pleasantly for a short while before the pizza arrived. On my trip to the men's room, I felt a presence in the hallway beyond the dining area and looked back to see a shadow on the wall, a shape like an adult male with a slender build. Nothing cast that shadow. It moved as though turning toward me, but dissipated like smoke rising from the wall as a woman left the ladies' room. She was shocked by my expression and apologized for startling me. :) I went to the bar to see if I could buy a t-shirt and excused myself as I walked around a cowboy at the bar. When I turned to look him in the eye for my apology, he was gone, leaving behind a Big Nose Kate's shot glass, which I promptly bought. Meeting the owner of 60 years. You'll get a History lesson like you could not find in Tombstone. He is a walking encyclopedia of Tombstone history. Prince of a man. Very accommodating and friendly. We visited with him for a good 30 plus minutes. My friend had a burger and fries. Very good. I ordered the Calzone. Big mistake. It was not good at all. I suggest if you don't order a burger. Big Nose Kate's is a historic Saloon in Tombstone. It's really cute inside and you really feel like you've stepped back in time. The staff are all in period appropriate outfits and it's decorated from floor to ceiling. The staff were super friendly and service was pretty quick. We happened on karaoke night so it was mostly locals, which was fun to watch watch. The food was OK, not great. I'd give that a 3 star. It's pricey for the portions as it's fairly small. Nothing was great but it was all edible. We tried a burger and the cheesesteak. It was really cute to eat here, but I probably wouldn't be back as the food just wasn't great. We're visiting Tombstone and are looking for a quick lunch so we step into Big Nose Kates and step back about 145 years. The restaurant was converted from the old Grand Hotel from the time frame of the gunfight at the OK Corral and they have done a great job of keeping the building looking like a period piece. On a visit to Tombstone, my boyfriend and I stopped by Big Nose Kate's Saloon our first night in town. It was one of the places that popped up most frequently during our research for Tombstone. When we walked in, it was a large saloon with lots of photos, signs to read, and lights all around. It was really cool! We asked for a table and were seated right away. We each ordered some food and got some whiskey that was supposedly the go-to of Doc Holiday. The ambiance of the saloon alone was a lot of fun to experience while we sipped on our drinks and waited for the food. After a few minutes, everything came out. The menu is akin to a classic American diner. It was yummy and did the job after a long drive! We actually enjoyed our first time enough that we returned the next day for lunch. One of the guys at the saloon actually recognized us from the day before and greeted us very warmly. This time my boyfriend and I got to sit on the stage area which was nice to overlook the rest of the saloon. We had some food and drinks which hit the spot as before! Near the end, we asked if someone could take some photos of us by the piano. We ended up having a whole photo shoot with costumes and props! It was a lot of fun. The ambiance is exactly what you expect from a saloon in tombstone. Feels exactly like youre walking into the old wild west and the staff is dressed in period appropriate clothing. The service was nice no complaints there. They offer free pictures in the back corner with some props and they had a very nice preformer while we were there that added to the vibes. The food was nothing special wouldnt reccomend actually eating here if were being honest, i got the boneless chicken wings and they didnt sit right and i ended up throwing them up.
