Fries were good too. Bloody Mary's were very good - they don't use that "zing" mixer that most places use now which has horseradish in it. I don't like horseradish in my Bloody Mary, so Horseshoe was great for using a regular Bloody Mary mixer. They didn't have the jalapeño poppers the day we went for lunch, so we went the next day and ordered 2 orders of poppers (6 in each order) and bloody Mary's. YUM. read more

Greeted warmly right when we stepped in. Visiting Karcher Caverns and told on our way home to Tucson, I 10 was closed to an accident. So we made a detour to Benson for an early dinner and let traffic clear. I'm so glad we did. Carrie (?) Our waitress was so helpful in what we ordered. My husband had a Rueban, brother a burger, sister a Cobb salad and I had the pork chops. The Rueban was the best I have ever had, yes my husband and I shared meals. Pork chops were perfectly cooked. Yelp don't lie! Saw the reviews for this place a while back and looked for an excuse to check it out. Was not disappointed. I'm a self proclaimed biscuit and gravy expert and boy howdy do they have some good ones here! Got the loaded up version with 2 over easy eggs. Right on the main road in Benson it seems to be the main place people stop in to grab a bite. Basic diner menu and a lot of fried items. We opted for their foot long Chicago dog which was a nice presentation but the dog itself was over cooked and salty, very salty. Other concerns were a dish towel on the floor which seemed to be soaking up a leak where the public sees while seated & it looked like it had been there a while. It also was very evident a few of the servers hustled their tails off while others were more into chatting it up with each other at the front counter which you could tell annoyed those seated around that area. We planned on lunch at The Horseshoe following our visit to Kartchner Caverns. It was exactly what we hoped for: delicious food, nicely presented, and served by an attentive and engaging server. I had the Reuben and it was delicious. My two friends enjoyed their Chicken Bacon Ranch wraps. The fruit salad that one requested for her side was beautiful. Really, we should have taken a photo. The French fries were perfectly seasoned. We were in and out in an hour without ever feeling rushed. Stopped here with a group of 8 after visiting the caverns. Got the Nashville Hot Chicken as did one other of our party. Theirs was huge! They traded with me because it was too much chicken. Our table also got some onion rings and fried pickles which were excellent. The server had a great disposition and seemed happy to be there. Yelp wants me to talk about the ambiance.... Me and my family were driving back to Phoenix from Tombstone and we thought we should stop to eat as it was getting a bit late. Reviews on google seemed excellent and we were anticipating a decent meal and time. It took a little while to get seated as we arrived a bit before 6pm and it was busy. It only took 20 minutes waiting to get seated. Three of us ordered the fried fish special as it was something they were known for. Our server was pleasant and friendly. It took an additional 90 minutes before we got our food after being told several times it be just right out. None of our orders came with the tartar sauce as specified and I asked for it only to be told they ran out. I said I wouldn't have ordered it had I known. My fish was stone cold. The others had warm fish. Mine clearly sat for some time. My waitress did remove mine from the bill as I didn't eat it and instead had some of the others. My poor rating is due to the kitchen staff contributing to a long wait and poor execution. It's makes for a bad experience overall and no one was happy upon leaving. The place gives off a cool ambiance especially the neon sign outside and historic feel inside. I wish we caught them on a better day but frankly as we were traveling I doubt we be back. read more

I had a very cold Coke-Cola in a glass bottle- my favorite. They served a complimentary bread item that was tasty and crunchy. Service: sat at the back of the restaurant and service was good. Young lady was prompt and friendly. Ambiance: I don't recall too much about the looks of the decor inside. Another nice little local restaurant with simple but good food and friendly service. They have a good selection of home baked desserts right out front, a bar to the left with seating in addition to the regular seating to the right. We came then they had an all you can eat fish fry special. The server actually told us the wrong price for it, making it seem cheaper. However, she did make sure they honored the price she told us, which was nice. The fish itself was pub style, with nice big pieces battered and deep fried. My review is directed primarily to vegetarians and vegans. Basically, I suggest that you not go to Horseshoe. You can find some things to eat for breakfast and lunch, yes, but not that much. You're probably going to be disappointed. For instance, breakfast. Yes, vegetrians can have pancakes or french toast or an omelette. But most of their specialties offer a choice of sausage, bacon, or ham. No veggie option. How hard could it be to have some sort of veggie burger in the freezer, so the vegetarians can have a hearty meal, too? Or some other side, like a little salad. They don't bother. And if you don't eat meat OR dairy, well, you can find something, but it isn't necessarily something you want. Lunch is that much harder. In the mood for a grilled cheese sandwich? I sure hope so, because there isn't much else you can get. And, bottomline, for supper? Nothing at all. Those of us who are vegetarian or vegan know it is not hard to have a few things on hand that will help us feel our meal is as good as everyone else's. The Horseshoe Cafe doesn't do that.
