I have been going to Hot Dog King since I was a kid growing up in Asheville. My family used to pick up dinner from the Fairview location once or twice a month, so it has always been a place tied to a lot of good memories. After Helene and the closure of that store, we had not been able to enjoy it as often since the other locations are a bit farther away. Tonight, I did not feel like cooking and decided to give the Fletcher location a try. I am glad we did. It was everything I hoped for. The same classic local spot where you know you are going to leave full and satisfied. What stood out most was the staff. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind. We placed an order for seven people, and every single item was made correctly. Nothing was missed, and everything was fresh and exactly as ordered. We will definitely be back. It may not be as often as when Fairview was just a few miles away, but it is worth the drive. read more

Straight forward roadside lunch spot in south Asheville. Ordered a house special dog (chili, onions, mustard) and a jumbo all beef with slaw, onions, mustard. A side of steak fries and a root beer. While the house special dog felt a bit tasteless and mushy with only a smear of mustard which would have been nicer in greater proportion given the less than appealing dog underneath..., the all beef jumbo did not disappoint. Snappy exterior, flavorful, juicy interior and toppings that were well matched. I will return, move around the menu a bit and see about a few other staples like the chicken and bologna sandwiches. I'm sure my teenage roommate will want a few samples from the burger side of the menu as well. I will return. read more

I'm from California and saw this place on yelp and decided to stop and try this place out. I was not disappointed. First off the hospitality was top notch. They were so friendly and right away answered any questions I had and recommended items for me to try. Unfortunately I'm not a huge onion or slaw lover, so I declined although I did get advice to try the sausage and I'm so glad I did. I had a sausage dog with mustard and shredded cheese. The bun was toasted and the sausage had a little snap which made it perfect. Mustard was not overpowering and the cheese was just enough. For a side I chose the tater tots. I mean come on why wouldn't I. I also had the fried pickles which came with ranch dressing. Now I don't know what voodoo magic they are frying with but nothing was greasy and they had a lite batter to it so it did not overwhelm. Inside they have tables and a restroom so you can eat inside. All in all I would be back so if you're in the area, stop by and give it a try. read more

This is a true surprise! My girlfriend and I randomly passed by and were pulled in by the fun retro sign. After stopping we decided to get The Corn Dog, The Porky Dog, And a large Chili Dog. All of these items were subtle and cooked to absolute perfection. The Hot Dog King is pure, unadulterated Roadside American Eating Perfection. This is a place that is beloved to Working people in the Asheville area and the line that materializes after we ordered was a testament to that. Crummy, fried food. Probably the worst hot dog I've ever had in my life. I asked if they could make a Chicago dog and they asked me what a Chicago dog was. Needless to say they didn't have the ingredients to make one. My spouse had a hamburger which was fine but not mich flavor. Very plain. I vote skip this place. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, and the inside is worse. Don't let the looks fool you. For what it is, it's really decent. I come from the land of coneys and hot dogs (DETROIT). We pride ourselves on our coneys. I wasn't expecting much when I went here.....but it was quite a surprise. I had a #1 - Hot Dog, Rings and Coke. The Hot Dog had a toasted bun, the meat was really fresh, and the coney sauce was unique but tasty !!! This place looks kinda crummy, both inside and out, but they have a pretty good gyro. Otherwise, their menu is huge... Hot dogs, burgers, chicken, all of it alright. Quick and cheap. The only thing I don't recommend is the onion rings. Too few for the price and not very good. read more

Recently I went to Hot Dog King in Fletcher on a recommendation. Big mistake! I ordered Gyro and Greek salad. My partner ordered double burger. Worst ever!!! When asked if our food was good and I replied not really. We were offered something else, but no thanks. They were very nice and apologized. That's nice but we won't be back.
