Mmm gross... It's always fascinating to me when theres a spot with not that great of food but yet because it's been around for decades theres almost a cult like following. Such is the case here. But really, you get what you pay for. $22 for 2 dogs, footlong, corndog, 3 fries and fried green tomatoes. The dogs are these thin little things, boiled. Which you know the difference between grilled and boiled. The chili on top was a pale gray color. It tasted ok but the visuals... I couldnt do it. What was really disappointing was the fried green tomatoes. They had a good crust but few of them were stuck together when they were thrown in the fryer so there was cold raw cornmeal in between a few of them. $22 to feed my 3 boys for a quick lunch... eh, I guess ok. It is history for Asheville so you're gonna get patrons looking to remind themselves of years past. 3 stars because the people were extremely nice and helpful. read more

Made it to Asheville/Candler and had a bit of lunch at this little dive. Very friendly people, great pricing and great food. It's not the cleanest or must up scale place but it's worth the stop. A little GPS roulette led me to Hot Dog King, 1.3 miles away off of I-40. Hmmmmm. I could go for a hot dog. From the outside, looks like a tiny little building, no frills kind of place. I order a number one, $4.29, one dog, chili, mustard and onion, french fries and a Coke. Delicious, simple boiled hot dog, yellow mustard, hot french fries. My french fry barometer rated it "hot, hot, hot." I really wanted a fountain coke, all they had were plastic bottles and cans. But their sinful, white bread split top buns made me forget all about it. read more

It's a small place just off I-40 @ Exit 37. Excellent for a quick & tasty bite. The staff is typically super busy but always pleasant. If some in your party aren't hot dog fans, they too have options! Can't comment on those because we always have some version of their hot dogs. Lots to choose from but even the basic chili slaw dogs are excellent. I'm puzzled by a couple of very poor reviews?? We've stopped in several times while visiting an elderly family member in the area, and the dogs are consistently delicious! Restrooms are clean, etc. read more

Dogs come with mustard, chili, and onions. Fries were thick, with skins. I'd say food and price were average. Fries were better than the dogs. Price about average. This is a real-deal old school fast food place. The kind of place you'll see kids hanging out after school. We had hot dogs, a corndog, regular fries (steak cut), and curly fries, and all were far better than they needed to be. We ate next to a table full of someone's Mee-Maws but didn't feel like we stuck out like a sore thumb for not being locals or regulars.
