Feel like an echo chamber to some of these reviews... But nice hotel, very well decorated and you're going there for the trains. Stayed in a train car suite and it was fine, heated floors in the bathroom was a nice touch. But staff felt so lackluster. When we checked in and asked about how to navigate the property, they have us instructions like we've Ben there before, no formal welcome. You have to take your own bags to the room and there's no valet. Self parking is limited and we got ticketed for parking one row away from designated parking BUT there were not enough spots after circling for 10 minutes. Got a nice $50 ticket, which I'll be refuting. After initially getting into our room after dinner, I called down to get the sleeper sofa made up. Was told that housekeeping went home for the day and to figure it out myself. And all I had was a pillow, sheet and thin blanket to dress the bed for my toddler. The next morning I asked, hey while we're out can someone make up this bed? They said yes but for $25. Uhm, no thank you?? What?? Anyways, staff isn't looking to do you any favors and parking was awful. Also acknowledging that there was a full wedding taking place this weekend but if you're not getting normal service because staff is stressed out, then maybe put a couple things "on the house" like the sleeper bed set up. Pretty much everything went beautifully...this is a lovely, unique, boutique hotel. We stayed in the hotel proper; we will save the train cars for next time! This was also an amazing value. The rooms were large and inviting, with period furnishings, wood accents, and a great ambiance. The staff was friendly and helpful, and even provided information on the history of the hotel, which was fascinating! We were en route to a wedding in Florida, and decided to stay here both driving down and back, because we liked it so well. We will come back and stay longer. 3.5 stars-We stayed in the main hotel, not the converted railway car and I'm glad we did because I think we were more comfortable. There was a wedding happening here when we stayed here and we could hear the music bumping from all the way across the hotel. We could also hear everything happening in the hallway. Other than that, the decor is art deco, and is absolutely stunning. They did a great job paying homage to the history of this place. With an old restored hotel, there comes to be some quirks however, we are comfortable enough here other than the noise we could hear. read more

The Hotel Chalet was actually nicer than I expected. If I had to offer any criticism, my main issue was the lighting in the room--it was quite dark, even with all the lights on. I understand they're going for a vintage train-inspired vibe, but it made it difficult to get ready in the morning without opening the curtains, which I didn't want to do before getting dressed. As a pet-friendly hotel, it would've been nice if they had offered a dog bed and bowls. It's not a big deal since we always bring our own, but it's usually a thoughtful touch we appreciate. That said, the room was clean, and we didn't have any issues during our stay. There was a small coffee stand in the lobby offering pastries and drinks for purchase in the morning, though we didn't try it, so I can't comment on the quality. They also had a water station in the lobby with paper bottles available to fill up, which was a nice touch. While we didn't use the pool (we didn't want to swim and leave Luna out--she would've been heartbroken!), we did enjoy the outdoor bar located right next to the pool. It's separate enough that we were able to bring Luna and relax with a drink after dark when it had cooled down a bit. Also worth noting--you don't have to be a hotel guest to visit the bar, which is a great option for locals or visitors staying nearby. read more

Updated comfort with old-world charm. This is my second time staying at this hotel and my biggest complaint is that I'm not staying longer. Major disappointment in so many ways. In the 1970s, my in laws would drive from St. Louis on the way to visit us in Atlanta, stopping 8n Chattanooga to stay overnight. They raved about what a great place it was. A friend said the same thing. My wife and I like to ride trains, both modern and vintage. Remembering the wave reviews, and our fondness for trains, I booked a rail car room. Just about everything they promised was misinformation, untrue and/or exaggerated. I wrote a long review in TripAdvisor. Bottom line: what was once a high end Hilton hotel in an iconic two story Beaux Arts railroad terminal building is now a gutted shell,, replaced by a one story main building with other buildings scattered around it in an unsecured parking lot. There is no charm in the appearance and no professionalism by the staff or management. read more

There was a slight blimp in my stay because of the updated card system - but Sam, one of the hotel managers, was incredibly diligent about solving our problem. He made sure everything was squared away before he even left his shift! If you love everything vintage, this hotel is for you. Tucked into a private area of downtown Chattanooga, this hotel was memorable from the start, from the decor to the service, this hotel was top-notch. Arriving mid-afternoon for a wedding I was attending, I was immediately greeted (while still in my car!) by the doorman, who promptly retrieved a parking pass for me, without me even needing to step foot out of my car! After a friendly (yet prompt) check-in at the front desk, walking into my room was like walking onto a movie set. From the retro light fixtures, carpet, bathroom hardware and tile, all the way to the fabulous knob light switches, this room did not disappoint! I also have to add a side note: this was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at a hotel, and the water pressure in the shower - WOW!!! The wedding venue was perfect and the weather did not disappoint! The outdoor ceremony was held in a courtyard (thank goodness for the artificial turf for all us ladies who still love our high-heels), the outdoor cocktail hour had plenty of seating with a beautiful fire-pit, a converted train-car where you can get your drinks, and no lack of service with the hors d'oeuvres being served. The wedding reception, held in their ball-room, provided everything for a great event: space for dancing (with a balcony above - which offered the perfect set-up for crowd pictures), a walk-up service bar, nearby rest-rooms, and most importantly: a TOP-NOTCH staff (especially Dian, who went above and beyond to make my experience memorable). Downtown Chattanooga was never on my "to-do" list, but experiencing The Hotel Chalet makes me want to return for a destination trip so I can experience this hotel all over again and peruse the wonderful shops and restaurants that are all within walking distance of the charming Hotel Chalet. read more

I had rather not write a google, yelp or trip advisor review but this weekend stay was unacceptable. While the room was as pictured and as expected, there were several items that were below my expectations on this stay they are as follows: 1) Noise from the Signal Venue across the parking lot. a. The noise and vibration of the base were so loud it shook the lamps hanging over the bed until 2am. That was nether romantic nor restful. You should warn your guest that this could happen as this could be a great deterrent in booking this room we were in Car #020 which was not right on edge of the parking lot. You could not even turn the TV on loud enough to drown out this noise, as that would not have been acceptable to others surrounding us. The noon checkout was a plus after not getting any sleep or not even being able to relax left we did not feel refreshed at all. This was not at all what I expected for a romantic stay. 2) The Romance Package was beyond awful. With a little more attention to detail this could have been romantic. The fake rose pedals on the bed were cute just a little cheesy as they appeared real fake (like the kind you get at a dollar store). However, this romance package was just disappointing all the way around. a. Champagne was room temperature, just setting on a table with the box of strawberries with a welcome card. b. When we asked the staff if we could have a wine bucket and ice, we were instructed that item was not available we could put the champagne in the refrigerator . We also asked for champagne glassed we were told that was not available, and we were instructed to use the water glasses that were provided in the room. Who would want to toast to their love with water glasses and warm champagne??? c. When we decided the champagne & strawberries were useless as I do not think drinking champagne out of water glasses is romantic or acceptable on any occasion. d. We did however order beer that came in a bucket of ice??? Drinking beer out of a water glasses is much more acceptable. e. On your way back into the hotel after dinner we did run into a couple who were going on a carriage ride that held up champagne glasses to wish us a happy Valentines Day ??? 3) TV remote needed batteries the moment we tried to turn on we had to call the front desk for replacements. Not a bid deal just annoying. You really should have housekeeping check those type items before leaving the rooms. Having to call the front desk within 10 minutes of walking into the room did not bode well. 4) No staff to help with luggage, No parking valet ??? With the price for parking this should have been available at least the staff to help with luggage to your room from the lobby. These items left me to believe the staff was just lazy or we did not get preferential treatment that other guest received and have received according to the reviews left on google. The staff acted as if they were put upon when the questions arose about the bucket, ice, and champagne glasses. If this was going to be an extra charge that would have been fine (as everything else had an extra charge) I was not even given an option. At over $700.00 a night price point (including Romance Package & Parking) I would have expected way better. I have never been to a boutique hotel and had such an awful experience or service especially when I chose this hotel for a romantic stay. I have stayed in several boutique hotels from Seattle to Miami, and even in Europe so I am not just complaining for no reason. My husband and I often choose this type of accommodations due to the history of the hotels and excellent service by staff. read more

The hotel is beautifully decorated. We had a Sleeper Deluxe room, and the train car restoration was very well done. The room was charming but still functional. We also enjoyed our dinner at Elsie's Daughter. Unfortunately, the hotel staff is completely unsuited to work at an upscale hotel. We were shocked by the rudeness and lack of hospitality exhibited by the front desk. The parking arrangements are also unacceptable. There is no valet. After self-parking and checking in, we were told to walk back to our car in the parking lot, at night and in the freezing cold, to place a parking ticket in the car. Front desk was completely unapologetic about the inconvenience. I see other reviews noting similar issues with the staff. It appears that management has been unreceptive to feedback on this point. While the facilities are nice, this hotel is simply not run or managed to the standard of a higher end hotel. I can't recommend it. read more

I really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Chalet! It's decorated in an art noveau/1920s style, which gives the hotel character. Apparently the hotel was recently renovated last year. The lighting is dim throughout the hotel & the rooms creating a comfortable & intimate atmosphere. We stayed 3 nights in the chalet double queen which was extremely spacious! I loved it! We didn't have a patio, which would have been even nicer (On the 3rd party booking site it made it look like we had a patio). Our beds were incredibly comfortable & the room clean. I love the sitting nook and the table area where you could have your meal, or do work or a place to just chill other than the bed. Although there were only 2 drawers, they were deep & massive. The night stand between the beds were great because there was an open shelf below the top for more space. There's a mini- fridge so you can store drinks, but unfortunately no microwave. Make sure you call the front desk before opening any waters or beverages to clarify if there's a cost. Usually there's a card indicating prices in the room, but if not, never assume. I make this a habit to confirm first. The bottled waters are $7 each, that's big money for a big bottle. Just save your money, they have a water fill station in the lobby tucked away. There's a bench in the room to lay your suitcases if needed & more closet space. Ps. we didn't realize it until the last night but they have nice robes in the closet for use. A steamer, hair dryer & safe is available in the closet. They even provide a large umbrella in the closet for use during your stay. Just be sure to let your roommates know that you have the closet door open if someone is in the bathroom. You don't want to be accidentally knocked out by the bathroom & closet door. The bathroom, is NICE. That shower pressure is EVERYTHING!! Holy wow. Any dirt you have on you will be blasted off. The hot water was fabulous as well! The shower itself is huge. Some people noted that they didn't have a shelf in the shower to place toiletries, but ours had a built in shelf with large bottles of shampoo, conditioner & body wash. The only thing that was bothersome was the shower sliding glass door would slowly slide open. If we put a towel on the top of the glass door it provided enough weight to prevent it from gradually opening. I think this happened because the rubber guard on the shower glass was already partially coming off. The AC is great & worked well, but when it kicks on, it's loud. The hotel location is great! It's walking distance from shops, restaurants & Center Medspa if you want to get a massage. State of Confusion, Main St Meats, Stir, Nic & Norman's and other restaurants are a 3-5 minute walk away. Company Chattanooga, a speakeasy in the Kinley Hotel is just across the street from the free downtown shuttle which is right down the street from the Hotel Chalet. Frothy Monkey, is a nice coffee place that serves meals and is also a 5 minute walk away. Rock City Gardens, The Incline Railway, & Ruby Falls is only a 15 minute DRIVE from the hotel. You cannot walk to Lookout Mtn. Parking is $18 a day, I would check their website or call the hotel to verify the current price. Parking seems limited dependent on the time of day, more so at night & before check out time. Hotel parking is not clearly marked, but a hotel employee was kind enough to come outside to verify that where we parked was part of the hotel's lot. For reference, the immediate perimeter of the hotel is their lot and the across the street along the fence area is their lot. They do have one row in the left lot facing the front of the hotel that is theirs as well (clarify with the front desk). I would have loved to have roamed the hotel grounds, but we didn't have time (that was on me). I think they did a wonderful job with the hotel interior design. We didn't stay in their deluxe sleeper train rooms, but they look cool. I did feel though, that they could have spruced up the outside area of the train cars to the right of the hotel, because it looked a bit dumpy. Maybe add some planters with flowers & paint the outside of the train cars for a more polished look. Overall, a wonderful & enjoyable stay! read more

The Hotel Chalet is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, if not the best! We were only there for one night sadly but it was such a luxurious, cozy, clean and beautiful place to stay. I have been truly trying to get into self care lately so I decided to treat myself and I'm so glad I chose to do it here at Hotel Chalet. We loved having access to a nice patio to sit at and enjoy our cup of coffee. We ended up meeting Dian, who we believed to be the owner of the hotel but she is the concierge and she was so welcoming and asked us how our stay was. She took a picture with us before we left. We got to talk and get to know her a bit, she was so sweet. I was so excited to be there when I first checked in that when the receptionist was explaining that my parking is validated since I had sent a message with my license plate prior, I need to put the validation ticket on my rear view mirror I completely forgot to do so. We went to unpack and get ready to go out but by the time we went to my car to leave, we had already received a ticket since I didn't have the validation tag in my car. I took a picture and went to the site to dispute it but after meeting Dian, I was able to ask her about it. After contacting her, I sent her the ticket info and the situation was handled so swiftly by the hotel. A man named John had called back maybe in a couple of hours or the next day at most, left a message saying they had taken care of it and waived my ticket. Then Dian even messaged me again to make sure all was handled. Amazing and so grateful that after a nice stay I didn't have to deal with the hassle of my mistake. The woman at Elsie's daughter in the lobby, Amanda got our coffees and pastries prepared for the morning and was very kind and friendly. The pastries and coffee were DELICIOUS in case you were wondering. Clean rooms, clean linens, beautiful decor, welcoming lobby, lovely team! All in all, great experience and we absolutely would love to come back and stay in one of the deluxe sleeper cars! I think I may make it a tradition to come every year and stay a long weekend. I don't understand why they have 4 stars but seems like more people need to write a review. This is absolutely a 5 star hotel that I highly recommend! read more

We ate dinner at the nearby Italian restaurant- 10 minute walking distance, and in the morning walked down to Chattanooga choo choo and ate breakfast at the frothy Monkey (less than 5 minute walking distance walk). Overall highly recommend. We ended up with third party booking and stayed at the hotel. If you want to stay in the train cars - ask for the Sleeper deluxe rooms. Next time we will be trying out the train cars :) Helpful staff. Coffee is free in the room. Water bottles and everything else is charged. Parking is $18. Best of all - check out is at 12pm. So you can easily go and grab late breakfast/brunch and take your time to refresh prior to setting out on your way! read more

We learned about this unique lodging experience through southern living magazine. While the concept of converting historic train cars into hotel rooms is creative, the execution isn't great. We would consider trying one of their classic indoor hotel rooms next time. What works - bathroom design is beautiful. Water pressure is great. Bed is comfortable. Great location as conveniently walkable to many great restaurants, bakeries and bars. In a nice day you could walk to the aquarium and pedestrian bridge area. What could improve - most importantly, cold. Would not recommend staying in the winter. Suspect it is hard to insulate the old train cars. the bed is low to the floor and very close to train car walls on both sides so we were beyond chilly. The thermostat is high up on the wall and the heating vents are in the ceiling so it thinks it is warmer than it is and shuts off. We ended up running it at 83 degrees the second night to sleep without three layers of clothing. The ceiling paint and curtain colors were different than the magazine picture and it fell flat (puce instead of cream). Parking should be free. $18 per night to self park in a lot with huge puddles and potholes in need of repair. During the day with curtains open we could see lots of dust kicking up as we walked. Also, the car smells like an attic - musty. Overall an interesting experience. They need to keep fine tuning. Not worth $300 plus per night. read more

This is hands down not only the best hotel we've ever stayed in but the BEST hotel staff I've ever had the honor of interacting with. This trip was a surprise for my husband and I's anniversary! When I was booking the room the train cart wasn't available for our first night but it would be ready the next day. No problem with that, the only issue was keeping the shock factor of him not realizing we'd be changing rooms. I had convinced him the train carts were decorative and there as antiques and anytime id see people entering or exiting them id quickly pull out my phone and have him look at something so I could keep his eyes away. I came up with a plan the morning of to check in with the hotel staff when the room is ready so I could start preparing. SAM is the first person who gets a shoutout here, I called in and immediately went "okay this'll sound crazy but my plan is to sneak the stuff to the train cart room when its ready and I need to know when is the best time to do so". He immediately locked in and told me the estimated time, when to call back and what to do regarding a swift switch of rooms. The gameplan was for me to swiftly move everything out while we ate at a nearby restaurant called Stir (1000% recommend, its amazing). Around the time Sam said to call he remembered me by name (its the small things that count) I had only a little bit of time to get moving. While at Stir I was assisted by their staff on the quickest and sneakiest way out the building and I called to let Sam know I was on the way. Prior to leaving I discreetly packed away most of our suitcase so I could make the transition smooth. When I arrived Sam waisted no time getting the keys ready (it seemed he already prepped things before I arrived which was awesome) and even had KEITH the door gentleman run up to the room with me to get our things. Keith was already someone we enjoyed because of the car name game we'd play everytime he greeted us at the door, he was helping us think of names for the new car we got for this trip . Keith and I hurried into the room, snatching up our belongings in record speed and then escorting me to our train cart and helping me put everything in the room. Absolute legends, both Sam and Keith! Now for part 2 of the plan! There ended up being a bit of a hiccup. Upon me rushing back to the restaurant I had not realized the new key was showing through my shirt. When I sat back down after "having a belly ache in the bathroom" my husband reached over and plucked it from my shirt. He furrowed his brows at me in surprise, "Nice! Where'd you find your key at?". The PANIC I felt immediately I lied this morning saying I couldn't find the key and think its under the bed so that he wouldn't at any point think I went to the room but my dumb self put the new key right in plain sight, I had a lot going on okay?! I immediately blurt out "Yeahh I found it on the bathroom ground in the stall I used yesterday here" which SURPRISINGLY believed, yet he doubted it was mine but his thought process (i found this out after) was that he was goinf to take it to the staff and check if its mine. I realized this because he stood up shortly after and goes "I'll be right back". I looked out the restaurant window and as soon as I saw that man bun exit the building I IMMEDIATELY dialed the hotel!! "HELLO?? Who am I speaking with??" "Good afternoon this is Shane, how can I help you today?" This next shoutout goes to the king SHANE himself, my other partner in crime here. You can tell how intelligent he is with how quick he was on his feet. Soon as he introduced himself I go "okay this will sound crazy but there is a 6'5 man bun wearing Australian man on his way to the lobby. Whatever he says happened to card play along!!" When I tell you this man got right into character, I could hear him smiling through the phone, quickly reassuring me that he would cover for me. My husband, just as I expected goes to Shane saying something messed up my key and they went up to the old room to test the keys on the door. Surely enough my husband goes in the room and miraculously only goes into the bathroom, so he wouldn't have noticed the fact that, oh I dont know..that EVERYTHING is gone in the room?? He returns to the lobby with Shane who keeps the room keys and says he'll reprogram them and give them to us when we're back. ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!! My heart was raaaaacing when I found out my husband went back to the hotel room and just by absolute luck didn't check anything else. I found out later that an actual note was put on my file advising staff on what we looked like and not to mention the train cart room or any details, I absolutely adore that they played into it to that level and really made my efforts worth it to keep it a surprise. Lastly, a shoutout to John, the manager and the two sweet ladies I met with him, Caitlyn and Tristyn. The three of them were very kind upon us leaving on our last day there!! read more

Ok, it's a shame for my visit because the things that were issues, can easily be solved. We came with two small children that were excited to use the heated pool. As soon as we got to the poll, a hotel employee came up and said we need to keep the children quiet because there was a wedding next door. The wedding was not dusturbed by two kids playing We order food and left the remnants outside our train door. Never picked up, for all I know, it is still there. I went to the cafe for pastries and croissants. They could not hear them up because their oven has been acting up. I asked for napkins, we don't have any..., If this were a budget hotel, all of this would be expected. The Hotel Chalet is not a budget hotel but seems to act like one. read more

Updating this to 3 stars after Brad waived our patio and parking fee. Brad also accused me of attacking him. To be clear, I didn't meet Brad until this morning. Still not reccomendkng this place to my family and friends. This place is completely overpriced and way too high on their own supply. They did not accommodate for the number of parking spaces needed and the whole place is completely insane. They charge you two dollars for a banana. This place is crazy. Come on girls run...I am dictating this Right now in the parking lot running to stand in a spot trying to get a parking space for our car while my husband is circling. BTW parking is $18/night and they don't have enough spaces but they still charge you They also charge an extra $80 per night for 1/2 of a patio that can barely fit 2 people but you have to share it with your neighboring room. They send messages about "yoga classes" and then tell you are $15pp. They only give 3 towels when you told them you have. 4 people in your room. And it's September but the "monthly agenda" posted is from June. This hotel needs to get down from their high horse and actually create an experience for their guests to enjoy - without nicking and dining them to death. Oh and the in room coffee is bullshit and the watered down bullshit coffee in the lobby is $3 per cup. read more

Our daughter and son in law chose The Hotel Chalet as their destination wedding venue and I can't say enough about what a positive experience we had. Michael and Jordan worked so hard to bring their dream to reality. From the wedding spaces (the Arbor, the Caboose, and the ballroom), to the amazing rooms/train cars, to the amazing food and the A++ service, it was truly a weekend to remember. We would highly recommend this unique, award winning hotel for weddings. Guests could park their cars, check in and enjoy the weekend on foot since there are so many great sites and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Staying in an actual train car was something I always wanted to do as a child, so getting to do that as a Mother of the Bride was so special! read more

Such a special, quaint spot! I would have loved to stay longer! Great food (Elsie's Daughter, Stir, Nick & Norman's. Also went to the Meat and Butcher Shop restaurant.) just couldn't get over how cool the space was. LOVED it and the people! read more

Hotel is an older hotel that is kept up and has been renewed quite nicely. The rooms are big . We had a king bed with plenty of seating room, nice tv, and wonderful bath. The only thing I didn't like was the in room coffee. It was in bags like tea and not much taste. read more
