We thought we were going to a quaint little B&B type hotel in Chattanooga. What we got was an old rundown hotel, with minimal services, bare rooms and extremely noisy. We didn't get the room we paid for and when I said something, she said, that room was blocked off and I mentioned Marriott, her response was "We are not a Marriott, we just let you earn points". She did call around 10:00pm, while we were in bed, and said she could move us to a bigger room. We were already sleeping . The room we got was extremely dark, with old furniture and paint chipping. The bartender in the bar, said he cold make anything, then didn't have what I wanted. Gave me a substitute liquor, which was not even close and made me sick. The continental breakfast was scones, packets of oatmeal, some fruit and some dry cereal. Bad Coffee and 10 tea bags, none of which I would ever drink. They consider this an artsy boutique type of hotel, I felt like we were on "Skid Row". Marriott should cut ties!!! read more

A wonderfully different and comfortable place to stay in Chattanooga. The rooms are all individually furnished with their own specific takes on mid-century modern style, so it's fun to scroll through the options on their website and pick out the feel that grabs you most. I picked the New Yorker room with a balcony. It was quite spacious, with a cozy sitting area, small desk in the corner, very comfortable bed, and a wonderful bathroom with deep soaking tub and huge shower. Note that there is no separate closet in this room (don't know about the others), there is a rack on the wall for hanging items and a luggage rack. The decor items were whimsical and fun and certainly made it a distinctive retreat. There doesn't appear to be central HVAC, so temperature control was via a separate machine that certainly kept the room cool during an autumn warm spell. Matilda Midnight is an excellent, atmospheric lounge with a rotating menu of craft cocktails and a great vibe. It's great fun for a pre- or post-dinner drink. (Or for both!) The service in this small establishment is very efficient and personal; the desk is staffed 24 hours a day. I didn't have a car during my stay, but if you do take one, there is no on-site parking. (There is a lot adjacent to the hotel, but it is specifically designated as not for the hotel.) There is a valet stand out front. The location may not be exactly ideal, depending on your plans while in town. The old train station and several restaurant and shopping options are very close by, but the riverside attractions (Hunter Museum, Tennessee Aquarium, north shore area) would be a short drive or medium walk away. Some of the area around the hotel is a bit down-at-heel. I never felt specifically unsafe on the streets, but depending on your comfort level, you may not want to be on foot after dark on the side streets. read more

This is a very cool hotel! It's charming with all of the mid century decor touches from the 50s and 60s. It appears that so much thought went into each and every detail of every room. The room I stayed in was large with a nice large comfortable bed. The service is amazing as well. They walk you to your room and your key is ready in your room. The one thing I would say somewhat negative, but it's also part of the charm, is do not stay here if you are a light sleeper. While I didn't have any problems sleeping, you can hear everything in the room next to you like it is happening in your room. I heard their alarm go off, I heard them drop their toiletry top on the floor. The floors also creak with every step. read more

Truly a 5 star experience. First -- the staff is so kind! Also, this is a small hotel, and truly feels like a "home". The decor is very unique and artistic; I booked it for a photoshoot and the room was perfect (I got "The Kite" king suite). The amenities were top notch, comfortable bed, great tub, nice balcony! I even had little bird visitors outside that were so cute. The only downside was no fridge in the room, but that was it. Cute bar downstairs with a small menu too. This 16 room hotel is really something! So much so that it deserves its own album on my Facebook page. This place oozes wonderful customer service, moderm mid-century style, charm and tons of coziness. My husband and I highly recommend this hotel even if for just one night. I think I got a picture of every corner of this place, our room which is named The New Yorker (each room has its own name and style). Me and my husband stayed here for a quick overnight get away, and it was nothing short of amazing! We were greeted at the front desk by a super sweet man who checked us in and gave us the history of the hotel as he escorted us to our room. Everything is retro like and the whole space is beautifully decorated. Our actual room was amazing. We had a balcony which was great. My favorite part was relaxing in the soak tub! The rooms were very clean and the beds were so comfy! 10/10 experience for sure. We will definitely be back to visit. read more

Everyone working at The Dwell Hotel was very pleasant and accommodating. It is very odd, there is a mannequin in the room off the lobby and the furniture looks pretty worn and a bit shabby. We stayed in The Bee suite. It was pretty and I loved all the pops of orange. It was, however, very dark. The lights seem have lower wattage bulbs and the only outside light is from the balcony and it isn't open, it has a bamboo wall so you can't see anything beyond it. Also, they charge a lot for parking and it isn't on premises. It is in a random open parking lot a few blocks away without any security. At 4:00 am we were awakened by other guests. You can hear EVERYTHING above your room and in the hall. Overall, for the price, I would not recommend staying here. read more

If you get the chance to stay here, do it! The rooms are all so uniquely decorated (retro yet modern) and make you feel at home, but like your dream home. The king-sized bed was beyond comfortable. The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Ben, Mark, and Larin. This might not be the longest review, but it will be a great one! This hotel is so sleek and sexy! Every room has its own them and cheers to the team that put them together! What a wonderful era to have lived in. The hotels staff was absolutely amazing and very hands on. They pride themselves and their hotel and that says a lot about a place. The stunning lounge area is hands down fabulous! When you sit in the bar/ lounge area you just think movie stars and glamorous people could be all around you! The decor is just so amazing and the hand wooden chairs. Spectacular atmosphere! The bar staff was on point and assertive. My cocktail and small salad was delicious and refreshing! I legit just felt so beautiful being here! I forgot to add... I'm a makeup artist and traveled to Chattanooga from Knoxville for a shoot in the room! I travel on business a lot. Usually, hotels are just a place to put your luggage and shower. This place, however, was actually fun to stay at. I didn't even do anything, really. It was SO GREAT. Beautiful rooms, giant tubs, great in-room coffee (and chocolate covered Oreos!), outstanding service. I ate at the little bar (not the tiki bar but the other). Beer was reasonably priced and the burger, fries and (especially) pickle were really excellent. I am from Philly and we have a lot of great gastropub burgers here. This was as good as any I've had. The breakfast was free and delicious. Yogurt, fresh berries, fresh avo spread, bread, muffins, little quiche, great coffee. I wish there was more than just the one of these in the country. I'd stay there wherever I went. Looking forward to returning. read more

This place is like the Hotel California or The Shining. I'm not sure if you aren't allowed to leave or will just never want to leave. This place has an amazing throwback vibe, with every suite designed with a different kind of retro (we had the Tropicana suite with balcony). They have two restaurants/bars: the solarium and Matilda midnight. One is a sunny, brunch-like daytime vibe. The other is a dark, smoky night vibe. The solarium has great brunch and amazing spicy bloody Mary's. Matilda Midnight does a lot of classy appetizers and dark liquor drinks. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, however be careful to specify if you want a quiet room. Our room itself was GORGEOUS, however it was near the stairwell and apparently under a housekeeping room, so there was a lot of disruptive noise. Noise is easily conveyed in this old rebuilt beauty. The staff was always kind and accommodating (and diverse, which was refreshing), and we were greeted at the door with cocktails. Valet parking top notch. This place is full of class and unique vintage furniture and art. You'll never find another place like this in Chattanooga. read more

I was in desperate need of a quick staycation and friends recommended I try The Dwell. I literally showed up with nothing but my purse straight from work. I was greeted so warmly I thought I was at a B&B. They walked me to my room, pointing out all of the amenities and a sweet treat waiting on the desk. I explained that I needed a toothbrush and a USB wall charger. Both of which were provided with a genuine smile. I was told that if I needed anything else at all to let them know and they would run it up immediately. After a wonderful dinner, a thorough soak in the enormous tub and a little light reading I retired and slept soundly for the first time in a while. The next morning I had a wonderful breakfast and lazed about before checking out. I highly recommend a stay here. I'll be back to check out the other themed rooms. read more

I can't say enough great things about this hotel! First of all, the decor is adorable - mid-century modern with a twist! Second, the rooms are spacious and super comfortable, with tempur-pedic beds, deep soaking tubs and separate showers, and great architecture - exposed brick and black and white tile floors in the bathroom. Third, the staff goes out of its way to make your stay great. Ben at the front desk carried my bags upstairs, brought ice, went outside with me and pointed out where to park my car, and brought up the food I had delivered from GrubHub. What a hotel!!! Only 16 rooms and free valet. From the time I checked in to checking out I felt like the staff really cared and they became almost neighborly. We got a call around 8 as they were trying to find an owner of a car parked illegally and held off the city tow truck from towing as they were guests... even though the guest did illegally park. The rooms are eclectic but inviting, large and comfortable, and have all kinds of amenities. I almost deducted a star as the tv did not work but it just meant more talking and an opportunity to relax. The rooms are ultra quiet and if you need more quietness they will provide free earplugs and a sound machine. Enjoy the soaking tub and bath salts. We did! read more

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Everybody was very helpful and accomodating from my arrival to departure three days after especially the cute and handsome valet driver, Tyler Fly. One of the front desk ladies even helped me with my light luggage to my room. The complimemtary daily breakfast was also very delicious. They also provided two complimentary chocolate covered Oreos every evening in my room which was a nice treat when I came back from a long day at work. My only suggestion for improvement is to provide an iron and ironing board in the room. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay at this modern yet homy hotel in Chattanooga. read more

My wife and I decided to get away for a weekend without kids. She wanted a bed and breakfast, I wanted the consistency I've come to expect with a Marriott property, so we compromised and stayed at The Dwell Hotel. It was a great compromise and a great decision. From the moment we walked in the door, the hospitality was top notch. Brian at the front desk worked hard to accommodate any and all requests we had. We asked for more coffee, we asked for a place outside to smoke a cigar, we asked for advice on the best pizza place in the city and every time Brian came through for us. When we entered Matilda Midnight (the restaurant and bar) the hospitality continued. Monica and Dana worked hard to make sure that our food and our drinks were exactly what we had hoped. They were friendly and genuinely seemed to care about our experience. Speaking of the food, we met the kitchen manager Courtney. Great guy! He brought us out a taste of his chicken salad that he said was a secret family recipe. GOOD GRACIOUS was it good. My granny ran a diner in the 50's and made a lot of chicken salad for us kids growing up but it had nothing on what Courtney is serving up. It's smoky and savory. If you don't like chicken salad, order the chicken curry rolls or the Chicken Caprese flat bread. We ordered and enjoyed all of it. I haven't even told you about the luxurious room, the local coffee and chocolates that were waiting for us when we arrived, the great breakfast joint downstairs, etc. It was all great and made The Dwell Hotel a place we will return to. read more

Five stars are not enough. My husband and I got married in the Solarium Room of the Dwell Hotel a month ago (August 2019) and stayed in the Tiki Suite that night. The whole experience was amazing. We are not currently living in Chattanooga, so we planned the event remotely. Nicholas Cook, the concierge & event manager, did a fantastic job coordinating the event with us via email; and worked with us to find time during our wedding week to walk through the venue and discuss final details. Nicholas and his staff were extremely considerate of our wants & needs for the event, but also offered helpful suggestions and advice. From start to finish of the event, the staff was on hand to make sure everything was perfect. The food was amazing, there was an outdoor area for guests to hang out, and the decor of the venue speaks for itself. There was also complimentary valet for the guests of the event - parking can be difficult in downtown Chattanooga. Following the event, my husband and I stayed in the Tiki Suite - one of the 16 uniquely decorated rooms of the hotel. It was very clean, and the staff left us a hand-written letter of congrats. They also set aside a meal for us, in case we were hungry after our event. The customer service was outstanding - we were well taken care of. We will definitely be regulars of the hotel, and are already working up ideas for our next event at The Dwell Hotel. We highly recommend!!! read more

The design of the hotel is five stars on its own, but coupled with the super friendly and helpful staff made this the best hotel experience we have ever had. Every book and cranny is thoughtfully designer, and each room has a different theme. We stayed in The Pink Lady room and our room was perfectly made up every day, stocked with Fiji waters and local chocolates FOR FREE. We also loved the bar and their southern plates selection. I loved turning every corner and seeing something different. Think 50s meets the 70s and the bright and cheery breakfast bar area with French music was just the icing on the cake. Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Dwell. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room looked exactly like photos on the website. Its decor has an upscale European feel with minimalist tendencies. The bed was comfortable. My room had a huge bathroom with a separate shower which is something I enjoy. Areas for Improvement include installing a closet or armoire instead of the open hanger bar. I would also like to see an in room safe. The room had hardwood floors and tile in the bathroom. This could be a plus for allergy sufferers. I stayed in summer and these floors could prove cold in winter. Supplying slippers with the robe would then be welcome. The windows only had shades so sleepers who need a very dark room might need a travel blindfold. The staff acknowledge that noise can be aa problem and have ear plugs in the tables on both sides of the bed. I found my room had noise typical of an urban hotel. My room was on the second floor overlooking an alley and I slept through the nights. The bar was pleasant and everyone appeared pleased with their drinks. I only used the restaurant for breakfast and had different meals each morning. The coffee was good and my dishes were well prepared. A welcome improvement would be a larger selection of fruit. read more

Incredible customer service, and unique hotel! We stayed in the Tiki Room and loved all the space with the fireplace, seating area and nice decor. The exposed brick walls look great in the room and bathroom. The service really was amazing, every person from the valet, to Amy at the front desk, to the bartenders and servers went out of their way to make sure you were happy. I will refer anyone I know that is headed to Chattanooga to stay here. We also had an easy walk to shopping at warehouse row, restaurants, breweries, etc. We will be back! read more

First let me say that no posted photos can do The Dwell justice. From the free valet service with a smile outside, you walk into a small and well appointed reception area with more smiling faces. I was checked-in quickly and made my way upstairs (yes, there is an elevator also). This is an old building, the floors creak and pop, and that's not a bad thing. The history of this old building has been preserved so well, with a clean retro style. So....when I walked, I thought of what a history the place had. Incidentally, when in my room, I only heard others' footsteps once. I opened the door to my room and just went, "Wow, nice!" Everything from the floor to anything on the walls was obviously chosen with a lot of thought. Huge comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom. That deep soaking tub is just right for relaxing, and a separate shower is great in the morning. With your room, you also get a complimentary breakfast that's fantastic. Not your typical complimentary hotel breakfast. This is a gourmet breakfast.....once again with smiling and friendly staff. Breakfast is served in the Dwell's five star restaurant, Terra Mae. I did eat at Terra Mae for dinner and could write a book on how delicious the food is. I'll save that for another time. :). The Dwell also has a small little bar downstairs, Matilda Midnight. It's popular for a reason, but wasn't crowded. And one of the many great things about The Dwell is that you want to just sit in every room. Matilda Midnight has a craft cocktail menu and you can relax in the different rooms and just have drinks. Perfect for appreciating how much time someone took to make sure every item was placed just right. This is a real five-star accommodation. A "one-stop" five star experience. Might have just caught them on a bad day but they got our order wrong and she was not very friendly the entire time. It's so cute it might be worth it though? I've never been so impressed with a hotel as I was with The Dwell. First off, the unique art all throughout the building is exquisite. It makes for a modern yet retro feel that gave me the sense of a memorable stay. Made to order breakfast off a menu is included in the accommodations. The wait staff is beyond impeccable. Kind to boot. At 8am no less. The housekeeping each time we went away did an extraordinary job of making us feel refreshed each time we came back to a clean room. Even made the toilet paper into mini origami with little cookies next to replenished Figi bottled waters. Oh and the kicker-- the bed. Best hotel bed and pillows we've ever experienced.
