The Human Bean is such a great spot for quick coffee. Of all the drive through shops in the Boise area I really do gravitate towards the bean, and here's why.... -They have traditional drink offerings, along with new stuff. So many joints like this are constantly changing their core menu and that drives me crazy. I want to know what all my options are -They have sizes up to 32 ounces, go big or go home -They take your order at the window, not a speaker -They have a great app with rewards, sign up! It's awesome -They are always friendly and nice, just enough that you don't feel pressured to make conversation but not overly so, it's a good balance -You get a chocolate covered bean on the top of your lid...it's the little things man

Saige and Cody are peaches!! GREAT way to start my day! I want to FaceTime guess today and they recommend a whole crew oat milk salted caramel and hazelnut! Fantastic Blend! They hooked me up with a next copy on earth card and even gave me a cute little candies espresso beans on top of my coffee! I will most definitely be back!

    Java Chip Granita

I ordered the Java chip granita and it was the most disgusting drink ever. It was way over blend and by the time it was delivered to me the drink got separated and taste so gross. It has no Java chips in it cuz they over blend it and the drink wasn't filled all the way up. See the photo. I only had a little sip. It's nasty and waste of $$. Never again.

Curiosity finally got the best of me. I see this place quite a bit driving to and from work. I've never really heard anything about it but I've seen the occasional person who thinks this coffee is worth the trouble and drinks from the cup of the human bean. Whenever I judge coffee on taste and flavor and anything I can think of, I always fall back on regular coffee with half and half. I believe in faithful with the little, faithful with the lot. So, I got exactly that and was instantly dissatisfied with the temperature: warm, warm enough to drink. I need my coffee hot and to hot to drink so I can bask in the smell and warm up to it. Coffee foreplay. Taste, I jumped into this within the first minute because the feel of the cup was far from impressive. Watery and coffee tasting enough to tolerate. You know how tea has a mild flavor but is basically water? Well, this was coffee tea. Rather uneventful. Random white chocolate flavored coffee bean is nice on top of my drink. There really isn't much more to that. Other than relaxed cute girls serving coffee who don't need to strike up conversation until the coffee is served. Which I prefer. Don't need to talk to me. I prefer not to be talked to before coffee. I'm polite but please don't ask what I'm up to today. That's why 2 stars. Bam.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops. The staff is super friendly. They are efficient and get the order right. You can use the drive up or access the walk up window depending on your preference. Today we both had iced coffees. The drinks were topped with a candied coffee bean as usual.

Quick take: Yes, decent espresso…read more Coffee Snob Version: First some background to be fair. I buy and roast my own beans and tried beans from all over the world. I have an Excel file full of roasting profiles per bean with what worked and what was less good. I tend to like African and Asian beans. I have use the same Breville machine for 15 years, drink espresso and espresso based drinks exclusively. Yes I would consider myself a coffee snob. I live around the corner from here and have meant to come try them for a while. I was sick a few weeks ago so missed two roasting Fridays, I roasts every Friday and ran out of my own beans. As you know if you are reading the Coffee Snob version, Sbux disappoints, so hey... perfect opportunity to try here! What to try... curious to know about their beans, I ordered a Dopio and an Americano. The Dopio lets me experience just the bean, the Americano what it tastes like dilluted, the flavor can change a bit. The Americano also tells me how much water they add. I tend to make mine with equal parents espresso and water, there is an actual name for this that eludes me at the moment. What was odd was that as they pulled the double espresso shot, there was an unusual volume of crema on top, I actually saw the Barista dump some of the crema off before pouring the remainder in my cup. This is caused by a few things but beans that are too recently roasted is a primary cause. Freshly roasted means usually need at least a week to off as the carbon dioxide in the beans. All that crema was likely CO2 relates, so if anything would have made the shot undrinkablly bitter... And the Barista seemed to know this! I have had beans that needed a month to stabilize. One day it's sharp and bitter, as if by magic, the flavor has changed entyrly and is wonderful! The flavor of the Dopio would tend to support this as it was on the sharp side. That sharpness came through in the Americano which was full to the brim. The fix is simple, I add a small amount of whipped cream and swirl it in. When I get a less than ideal roast at home, this is the fix. I'm certain milk based drinks, cappuccino, breve, etc would overcome this easily. Will I go back, if I am out of beans, definitely, but now I know to add a bit of whipped cream!

Two enterprising young women are owners of this gem of a popular West Bench neighborhood gathering…read morespot that they created in what was an old dump of a 1950's era strip mall space and funded in part with crowd sourcing. Being curious since they opened this in Fall'ish 2024 and finding myself in the neighborhood, this was a destination stop for my husband and me when we went in about 11:30 on a weekday for coffee and a nosh. Pride of ownership shines in the clean and funky feeling interior and it is clearly popular because it was full, almost every seat, of people that seemed from the neighborhood, including a number of parents with young children. They advertise this as coffee and market, but I honestly didn't notice the market part, in that things for sale didn't jump out at me. That may have been because I was just trying to navigate to a seat in and out in the crowded space. THE MO: Coffee and the limited menu for food is ordered at the counter, carry to your seat and bus your own when finished. Although we were the only people at the counter and there were two people in the kitchen, it took quite some time for someone to come to take the order, although once someone finally saw us, they were pleasant, if not welcoming, in taking the coffee order and then again when my hubby went back to order pastries to go with it. MENU: Coffee, other beverages and a very small option of eats is listed behind the counter and on a paper menu there. Options included soup of the day and Gaston's bakery pastries. There were some breakfast sandwiches by local provider Poppyseed Bakery in the fridge section, we weren't told about them but seeing them when passing by the fridge on a trip to the loo, asked if they could be heated and were told they could be. We chose a couple of pastries ($5.50 each) and were reminded why we seldom buy Gaston's products for being too buttery and one note. The cortado ($4) were good. I noticed a woman at the table across from us who was sipping a beverage and eating what looked like a sandwich she had carried in. I don't know if that is part of allowable stuff or not. The pottery used for all of their coffee service, ours and the mugs at other tables, is great. AMBIANCE: They did an admirable job here of making this light and bright and just funky enough with pride of ownership and loving care in maintenance sparkling through. Seating includes a few level in, not step up, booths along one wall, a sofa and chairs near the front and many standard height tables and chairs (maybe too many when all full as getting to seat is tough) and a play area for kids in the corner. It had far less comfortable 'breathing room' space than I anticipated from photos. But I didn't take interior photos to post because I think it is rude to do that when lots of people are going to be in them who maybe don't want to be. ;-) LOO: There are two and both are uni and sparkling clean with great murals on the wall and good plumbing fixtures. My husband even pointed out the "cool" sink. Both are ADA compliant so kudos to them for that. (Yes, it is law and code but you'd be astounded by how many ignore both.) ACCESSIBILITY: One ADA parking spot right outside the door. (There are too few spots for the parking lot but that is not the coffee shop owners' failure. That is the lot owner's issue.) Level in the door. All on one floor. The tables would probably work for a wheelchair user to roll under. But it would be near impossible, based on my experience yesterday (I have had multiple sclerosis since age 20 and sometimes use a wheelchair) for a wheelchair user to get between tables and chairs for a clear path of travel to get to seating or the loo.

This joint is a lot smaller than the two I have previously been to. It's about half the size of the other two so to me it's more for drive thru business than it is to chill and hang out. Much like the other location off Ustick, there was a colorful wall that added such a fun vibe to the place. There were a couple tables to hang out at. I do appreciate how big the counter is! It's inviting and allows a nice space for you to order your drink. As much as I wanted to grab another delicious pumpkin spice chai, I decided to go with my normal. I snagged a small iced americano with sugar free white chocolate and cream. My daughter grabbed a small iced lime and kiwi fuel energy drink. The sweet gal behind the counter got our orders squared away and got to working on them. We hung out at one of the small tables while our drinks were getting made. It did take a minute cause there were a couple drive thru orders. But our drinks were made in no time and enjoyed them for a bit at the table. My daughter's drink was ready first and of course I had to try it. It was a fun green color. The Kiwi and lime added a clean fruity taste the the fizzy energy drink. Energy drinks aren't my thing but it was tasty. My americano came out shortly after hers. It was the perfect shade of coffee. You can tell there was enough cream to espresso. It wasn't watered down and it had a nice amount of ice. I did add a packet of sweetner cause I just needed it to be a tad sweeter. It was perfect! It was much needed after running around all afternoon. I have been to three different Black Rocks in the last two weeks and they have all been great! After we checked out the menu, I got myself my normal afternoon drink. An iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. My daughter got a peach and strawberry lotus energy drink. While our drinks were being prepared, I got to check out the venue. They have yummy looking baked goodies in the display case. A shelf filled with vintage coffee cans and plants. I adore the creativity they put into the shelf. The back wall is a stunning painting of a coffee plant. Whoever painted that wall did a fantastic job! My coffee looked dark and rich before I added my half and half. I knew that drink was going to be strong and flavorful! The espresso wasn't watered down at all. I added my half and half and a packet of sweetener. Taking one sip of my drink jolted me. You can taste the bitterness of the coffee. But it also had the right amount of sugar free vanilla in it as well. With the cream and sweetener, it was absolutely a great cup of coffee! I never caught the barista's name but she was super sweet. We talked about my transplant and my recovery from it. She was engaged and genuine. I appreciate that she was real and honestly involved in our conversation. It wasn't generic small talk. I wish this coffee joint is closer to me. Unfortunately they are on the other end of town. I would stop here every morning if I could. Everything about this shop is great. A small iced americano with cream. They didn't have any sugar free syrup options which is a bummer. He did ask if I want monk fruit or stevia sweetner, I passed on both. He did offer raw honey so I took up on that offer! He finished my drink and I noticed there wasn't any cream. It was filled to the top so it was pretty watered down. He did pour some of the coffee out and added the cream. The raw honey was nice but it still wasn't sweet enough for me so I added a packet of blue sweetner. It's a drinkable cup of coffee but it does lack flavor cause it was so watered down. I had really high hopes for this joint. After reading the reviews, I had high expectations. It looked like they pushed out great coffee! The venue and the gentleman were on point today but my drink was a flop.
