First time I tried it, I had to drive away because the line wasn't moving. Gave it a second try. The barista was very sweet and got this place one star above the minimum. I got a large iced coffee with vanilla and almond milk, a nice little splurge on my tight budget. The first thing this Barista did was fill this cup to the absolute top with ice; we already have a problem. There is no reasonable need for that much ice in any drink. Anyway, I got the drink and tasted it. I could have saved myself time if I just went to my cupboard and drank straight vanilla extract. There was no coffee flavor in this thing, it was all really bad vanilla flavor. I tried really hard to drink it because I paid for it, but I had my wife try it and she almost gagged. We drove directly to Starbucks and got a trenta iced coffee with vanilla and almond milk just so we could get rid of the taste. I wish I could describe it better, but it was just such a harsh vanilla flavor that I don't know what to say. My wife and I have 10+ years of barista experience between us, and if either of us served something like that to a customer we would be personally embarrassed. read more

Let's get this review started! First off, I moved here from the east coast where dunkin donuts and Starbucks were pretty much my only options. When I came to visit Reno my partner brought me to this location and I can tell you wholeheartedly, when I moved here two years ago this place has been a regular stop for me almost every morning. The staff make the experience, their flavor reccomendations and combinations for tea and other beverages are on point. I have nothing bad to say about the ladies in this little booth. For how busy they are, they crank through drinks like crazy and will send out a team member to take customer orders at your car if the line gets long. They know me and my partner by name and often times if they see my car they already have my drink waiting for me. I couldn't ask for better service or hospitality when getting my coffee, and trust me, I'm not a full person before my coffee. Drinks range in price and size, and you have the choice of everything from hot to cold, tea to coffee, smoothies to slushies. When the line gets long or they seem busy, please have a little bit of patience it will go a long way. These ladies (and gentlemen) work their asses off to give you great drinks with quick service. And a personal reccomendation from me? Mix it up every now and then! They will give you great suggestions for new drinks to try or ways to improve your favorites! (Try a iced green tea with lavender flavoring... you won't forget it!) read more

I've driven past this place many times; the small building always catches my eye, but I've never actually taken the time to try it out. Well, today I did. Pulling up, to the drive-thru, they have a variety of drinks, ranging from coffees to smoothies. The prices are all extremely affordable, with the smallest drink being only $3.00. Upon pulling up to the window, we were greeted with pleasant, smiling faces. They left the window open, as they tended to our order. They were nothing but kind, as they asked us what added delights we'd like in our drinks. My husband ordered a Chai Tea/Mate´ smoothie, with an extra shot, and I got a Green Tea smoothie. Both were served with a tasty chocolate-covered espresso bean on top. My green tea smoothie, although creamy and delicious, tasted nothing like green tea to me. My husband's Chai Tea smoothie didn't quite resemble the texture of a smoothie. It was much more like an iced coffee. Neither of us got exactly what we were expecting from our drinks, but we still enjoyed them, nonetheless. They were packed with flavor and both carried a smoothly blended consistency. Don't let the small size fool you, they know how to pack some flavor into their beverages. Above anything, I gave this establishment four stars because the service was nothing short of awesome! The two ladies that helped us today were superb. Their hospitality will be the reason I return to The Human Bean to give their drinks another shot. I go here almost every morning as it's on my way to work. I believe that The Human Bean has better customer service than Starbucks and is cheaper than most coffee places and the quality far surpasses the majority coffee places in Reno. Working in the medical field I think half my blood is likely coffee... I am somewhat of a coffee snob you could say. I rarely drink the fancy mochas or lattes, I prefer a good, hot cup of black coffee. Human Bean is the one place where I may order something else. They have the most amazing white mocha I have ever tried, it is sweet but not too sweet. Plus they have almond and coconut milk instead of just the standard soy and regular milk. They give you a chocolate covered espresso bean with your coffee, what more can you ask for? They also have good coffee without all the extras so there is something for every coffee lover... Stopped by here while on my way to some continuing ed classes at Northern Nevada Real Estate School, for some pick me up coffee on Saturday morning. They are fast and courteous and don't waste any of your time. I asked them what flavors they had in sugar free and their list seemed never ending. That's so exciting. it's often so difficult to find a large variety of sugar free syrups anywhere. That was an instant decision that I will be returning here more often. This location is just as great as the one on South Virginia! They serve the same great quality coffee with the amazing chocolate covered coffee bean. They always have the same monthly special as the other one. This one has no outside seating though, so it's strictly TO-GO coffee which is fine especially when all you need is a caffeine pick-me-up. I've found this one to be less busy, but maybe I'm just not going at the right times! The baristas here are as great as the other one. They actually let me in on the secret that you can get a Pumpkin latte year round at Human Bean! If you are someone who is a fan of the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice, you will love this one even more--especially since it's offered year round! read more
