Terrible management from top to bottom. Got home, and my order was messed up. It happens, but we were missing items that I paid extra for. After calling, they said to come back, but another 40-minute round trip wasn't reasonable. I wanted to have the extra items refunded, and we'd eat what we had. The employee agreed to refund the $5. 30 minutes later, the employee calls to inform me that her manager says they won't refund me the $5 and that the only thing they'd do for me is to bring the meals back. After 30 minutes, OF COURSE we already ate what we had. I asked to speak with this manager, but she was busy. Asked for her to give me a call, but she never did. The original issue with the food wasn't a big deal, but the treatment by the South Tampa manager was awful, so I dropped a message to Hungry Greek offices to make them aware. A couple of days later, a regional manager left a message for me to call him. I called, but he told me that he was too busy to talk and he'd call me back in 10-15 minutes. He never called. Well, at least their management is consistent. Hungry Greek management really sets the example for what not to do to stay in business. They've lost my business and word of mouth is impactful. read more

This store cannot seem to get an order correct. I called in a Greek bowl with extra tzatziki sauce. Get the bag home and it was a Greek salad. Last time no tzatziki sauce. So I called and get put on hold to speak with a manager. I tell her what transpired and she says i ordered a salad. I cannot not eat lettuce so I know I didn't order one. This place was fast casual perfection. I could eat here multiple times a week. The chicken souvlaki was so tender and juicy. I got the chicken souvlaki platter with rice and Greek salad that overflowed the plate. I also wanted to try the gyro so I got a side of meat and a cup of the lemon chicken soup. I ate every last bite and took some home for leftovers. I wish they franchised this location to other cities in Florida. Seating area has maybe 10-12 tables, self serve drinks, walk up and order counter. Everyone was pleasant and helpful when I asked for more tzatziki and lids for my to gos. The Greek salad and gyro were very good. It's just the soup I cannot get over It tasted like there were tons of lemons inside it was so lemony, although at first it was good. I had a little taste but after A few bites I started to dislike the taste of the lemon although my experience was pretty good I will definitely visit here again just not for the lemon soup. We tried this place on Uber Eats. We paid $2 extra to have the salad chopped and it wasn't chopped. Paid 50 cents for extra pepperoncini and there weren't extra pepperoncini. Paid $4 for rice pudding dessert and got a note that said "sorry out of rice pudding" with baklava in its place. They had just finished their meal and the gentleman needed help standing up. His wife asked the staff if they would be able to help him. I usually order from the Hungry Greek in carrollwood but because they didn't have chicken as an option I ordered fr this restaurant instead . I'm grateful I did because their food was way better. The chicken kebab actually has great cuts of chicken and was not dry like the other one who also seems to be stingy on chicken. The vegetables in the salad were all fresh. This is by far my favorite fast food Greek restaurant out there. I've been to many such as little greek, Greek city, pita pit, etc. The chicken and pita bread here is delicious. There is something about it that makes it stand out compared to its competitors. I went with the chicken pita today, as always (must add feta). Very juicy well cooked chicken, pita break comes warm, partially toasted. I am also a huge fan how you have the option between wheat and white pita bread, I usually switch back and forth between the 2, both are very good. I've ordered the chicken soulavki a few times before as well, nothing bad to say about this dish either. It is a pretty large portion, so if you get this make sure you brought your appetite. We really enjoy The Hungry Greek service and fresh ingredients. My husband and I both wanted gyros and wanted to try some other menu items as well. Friday night I went online to order a smorgasbord of food. I arrived to pick up the food a few minutes earlier than anticipated and was pleasantly surprised my order was ready. I was disappointed however that my request of no beets was not acknowledged. Once I brought it to the cashier's attention she quickly resolved the issue with a smile and provided extra tzatziki sauce, delicious! Stopped by for lunch. Had a really good gyro pita! The pita so hot I could barely hold it, and soft and tasty and chewy... pita heaven! :) Lots of gyro meat... some onion, and a bit to much tzatziki sauce (which was good... just too much of it, it overpowered everything else.) We love Greek food and The Hungry Greek has become ons of our favorite local Greek restaurants. Hands down, they have our favorite gyros - overflowing with large pieces of gyro meat, much more than other local restaurants and the pieces of meat are much larger too. I also like that they offer the option of wheat pitas, which I haven't seen much locally - and the wheat taste just as good as the white! Today I decided to try the hungry Greek for the first time. I love Greek food especially gyros. I have been in search of the best gyro in Tampa for quite a while now. I think today I have finally found it. You can really only do so much to separate yourself from other gyros in a way that would make you considered the best. Those ways would be, how well do you flavor the meat? How fresh are the ingredients? Was the portion size worth the price? The hungry Greek gyro answered all these questions on my first bite. The meat was oh so juicy, the ingredients popped in my mouth with freshness, and the portion size was well worth the price, because I was holding the hefty girl in my hand, and she didn't leave me broke. Good consistent Greek food. I have only ordered via uber eats but it is always correct, fresh, and tasty. I do order at least once a week. I think they have the best gyro meat out of all the Greek restaurants in the area (and there are a lot). I also think it is overall the best Greek restaurant in the area, but will have to try it out in person. The combo gyro pita and Greek fries are my go to, or gyro dinner. Feta is on point! Tried this place out initially because i love gyros and love finding good gyros Tarpon Springs caliber gyros. They were good but at some point recently they hit the bottom of the barrel. Gyros, the pita wasn't even warmed up, the whole thing was cold by the time i got home. That would be ok but the pitas weren't even warmed on the grill/flattop/griddle. This place is not bad at all for a convenient, tasty, reasonable meal. On Tuesdays they have gyros for $5! It's an amazing value. Their gyro meat is sliced fresh, and everything is made to order. I've always appreciated the proportions of their toppings. There isn't a huge mess of tzatziki. There isn't a whole overpowering onion. There is just the right amount of everything. I like their Greek salad, with a scoop of potato salad underneath. Just go with it! My new favorite is their lemon chicken soup. It makes a good filling-healthy meal. I've started to crave it! It's counter ordering, and they bring the food to you when it's ready. But they don't bring you utensils, you have to grab the (all plastic only) utensils from the bin yourself, which I don't love. Love, love, love this little place! I eat lunch here every few months. For a while I wouldn't order anything but the Greek salad with chicken because it was so dang good, but now all I ever get is the Horiatiki (Village) Salad with chicken. I love it because it's got no lettuce for you to waste your time on, just all the other delicious parts that make up a salad: cukes, tomatoes, red onions, green peppers, whole black olives, beet slices, feta, potato salad, peperocinis, and freshly grilled chicken. So good! And their Greek dressing is sweet and delicious. Plus, every salad comes with your choice of white or wheat pita, toasted, and served with tzatziki sauce. I read that it was started by a father and son team, and on numerous visits, one or both of them have been the welcoming greeter to customers. So glad this place is nearby. The Greek salad is fresh and delicious. We like it better than the other chains. It's so easy to order online and customize your items and get delicious additional ingredients like garbanzo beans on the salad. Our family's go to is the chicken gyro with either a side salad or soup. Only thing we've gotten and disliked is the beef kabob. Not sure if it was the marinade or if the steak had gone bad, but we fear ordering it again. Everything else we've ever tried has been delicious. Wow, I'm hooked! This review started off as an evaluation of three terrific Greek restaurants located within the NW Hillsborough / Westchase area. At great personal expense to my own waistline and bank account, I forced myself to eat at each of the three restaurants and then render an opinion for the benefit of my fellow Yelpsters. The restaurants under consideration were The Hungry Greek, Little Greek and Pappas Market Cafe. I've already written reviews for Pappas and Little Greek, and so this review is for the winner of my taste-test comparison -- The Hungry Greek. The Hungry Greek is located in the Sweetbay supermarket shopping center strip mall at the intersection of Race Track Road and Countryway. If you happen to know where the Samurai Blue sushi bar is located, then you'll find The Hungry Greek just a few doors down. First, let me say that the menus of all three Greek restaurants are similar, but I give the edge to The Hungry Greek as they offer more than the standard gyros, Greek salads, stuffed grape leaves, and pastitsio of their competitors. Hungry Greek also offers a nice mix of wraps, grilled salmon and grouper with a wider variety of Greek favorites. Score one star for The Hungry Greek. Next, let's compare flavor. Again, I give the advantage to The Hungry Greek. The seasoning of the gyro meat, the spinach pie, and the avgolemono (lemon-rice chicken soup) were all spectacular. Some have suggested that the soup is a bit salty, but I found if you crumble up some crackers and stir in a healthy dash of black pepper that you'll be left with the bright taste of the lemon soup, and it was excellent. Score another star for The Hungry Greek with flavor. Now let's talk about freshness. Hungry Greek wins this category by a landslide. The gyro meat for the gyro dinner was sliced freshly right off the rotating spit, as opposed to dried-out meat sitting in a warming tray. The yellow rice with mixed vegetables was fresh - no re-heated frozed veggies in here, and no rice that was cooked the night before. The whole wheat pita bread was toasted on the spot, and tasted fresh instead of stale. Major props, and another star for The Hungry Greek. As far as the prices are concerned, The Hungry Greek wins this category as well. A mini Greek salad for under $6, and $1.25 more if you prefer everything chopped. Most meals are in the $7 - 10 range, and the plates of food are piled high with yummy goodies. Another star, and they're headed for the finish line. Finally there's that intangible factor of a fun place to eat with people that genuinely care as to whether you are enjoying their food. The folks behind the counter at The Hungry Greek were extremely friendly, and willing to answer lots of questions about the food. The manager came by to say Hello, and spent time asking me how I had learned of the restaurant and what I thought of their food. It's hard to argue with good old fashioned customer service, and really nice people. A fifth star to The Hungry Greek for their customer service. Bottom line, this is my opinion and your's might be different. All three restaurants are good, but I give the advantage to The Hungry Greek. read more
