I was overly excited with how amazing the chicken looked and, better yet, how it tasted. The wrap was extremely filling--and did I mention it was incredibly delicious? Good Lord! I ordered a salad with gyro meat to go, and the "gyro" meat was like a long, BURNT sausage. It was dry and flavorless. I had to dip it into the sauce just to eat it. We ended up eating there again, and the food was okay, but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't go back. Burnt food in a restaurant is a red flag that the kitchen's doesn't care about presenting good food property cooked. read more

This review is for takeout. I ordered via DoorDash, and food arrived within the predicted timeframe. I ordered the gyro platter and baklava cheesecake. They sent over baklava instead, but DoorDash refunded the charge for the cheesecake. The gyro platter was a huge serving, but the food wasn't good. The gyro was very, very salty and excessively garlicky (and I love garlic). The rice was a joke, definitely not a traditional Greek rice pilaf, but also both salty and tasteless. The salad was fine. I couldn't finish half of my meal because it wasn't tasty enough to justify continuing eating, and I certainly did not entertain the thought of saving the leftovers for a future meal. The baklava was pretty standard for Tampa baklava, which is poor. The puff pastry wasn't crispy but nor was it soaked in honey. It was just blah. The pistachio and honey filling were very unremarkable. I guess it wasn't as sweet as many baklavas I've had in Tampa, which is good, but honestly, it was so unmemorable, I cannot recommend it. This place recently opened in the building next-door to mine and I finally had a chance to walk over and give it a try. I wasn't sure how it was going to survive considering it's like the fourth Greek restaurant in the same number of blocks... The Hungry Greek has an order counter and numbering system, much like the Falafel Inn across the street, but what sets them apart is the time it takes to deliver the food to your table. If I can get roughly the same food, at the same price, just steps apart from each other where one takes 30 minutes, and one takes 10 minutes, I'm going to choose 10 minutes every time! I am not sure if this is the case in all Hungry Greek locations, but I placed an online order with the Sun City Center, FL location for pick up. I had ordered 2 chicken skewers for almost $8 EACH. Normally, when I hear the word skewer, I think that it's a 12"/14" skewer stick. This was maybe a 6" skewer with 4 bite size pieces of chicken. Grant it, the chicken was tasty which is why I gave the 1 star. I will never order this item ever again. It would have been cheaper to get the chicken pita. I can't see how this place makes money as I was there at 5pm on a Thursday and there was one other customer in the store. read more

It feels like the owners haven't visited this restaurant years. It's obvious ownership does not care about their recipes, quality, or price. Ordered a Gyro Pita with a side of rice pilaf and a Greek salad with chicken. I was given gyro meat that was anything but fresh and rice pilaf that was clearly undercooked, and the chicken was bone dry and chewy. Everything lacked flavor except the Tzatziki sauce. These items are supposed to be the best a Greek restaurant has to offer! Yet they were beyond disappointing. The cherry on top was that these two meals cost over $30. Unreal. The only redeeming quality was the staff, they were kind and friendly. I stopped in before going to the Tampa Theatre for a quick lunch on Sunday. I wanted to.go someplace close and quick and, seeing that they are now open, I chose to go here. The inside is very clean and white. I was the only patron eating in while I was there but there were people coming in getting food to go. I ordered a greek salad, which comes with a pita with tzatziki sauce. I did not get meat on the salad but you can order a protein to add to a salad. The salad was pretty big. Lots of veggies, three peppercini peppers and feta. The one thing I would have liked is olives. There is potato salad in the bottom as well. I am picky about potato salad but it was good. The dressing on the salad was good too. I ended up eating about 3 quarters of the salad and all of the pita and was very full. I am sure once people who live downtown realize they are open they will be very busy. I believe they have a partnership with a delivery service as well. read more

Holy wow! Was staying across the street at the Floridian Hotel and wanted to get a bite to eat before the evening's Yelp event.
