    Traditional Cold Lobster Roll

The service is quick and friendly. This is my goto location for the best lobster roll on the NH Seacoast. The roll is always fresh from the sea. The meat is sweet and it's not filled with mayo and celery. They do not skimp on these made to order deliciousness. Compliment it with a Fluffy chowdah. Hope to see you there.

What a gem of a spot in Rye NH! Found this place when doing a search for Lobster Bisque. Read the great reviews and off we went for a quick lunch. It is a quaint place with a small parking lot but it is a spot that needs to be a stop if you are in the area. You will not find a friendlier staff working behind the counter. So lovely and helpful! The lobster- well it was superb! They serve hot and cold lobster rolls and even mini rolls which is what we got to have with our soup. Such a great idea! The mini roll was a perfect size and lobster well buttered and fresh. We tried two different soups the fluffy chowder which is clam chowder with lobster meat on top and lobster bisque with lobster on top. The fluffy chowder is VERY popular. When we stopped in for lunch, there was a line of 10 people waiting to order and everyone in front of us was getting it- one after the other some getting as much as 6 quarts. I have to say of the two soups- our favorite was the bisque. It was so flavorful, thick, and full of lobster. It's good to note they also open early to serve breakfast and have a variety of non-lobster sandwiches which looked good as well. Definitely a winner for lobster rolls and bisque in our eyes!

The lobster grilled cheese with white cheddar. Incredible to dip it in the fluffy chowder.

Wow. The fluffy lobster chowder was the best chowder I've ever had. Tender pieces of potato, huge chunks of lobster, incredible cream. We ordered it with the lobster grilled cheese- white cheddar. Took it down the shore to have a nice picnic. Incredible. Will go out of our way on trips out East from now on!

Incredible spot! We've been on an East Coast lobster roll hunt, and this is hands down the best one yet. The hot lobster roll is actually hot--not the usual cold lobster tossed in warm butter you find at other places. The bun is perfectly toasted, and the clam chowder is unforgettable. On top of that, every single staff member was genuinely kind and happy. The space itself is adorable with plenty of seating. Highly recommend.

The BEST place for Chowder is this place . Oh my goodness I cannot say enough to impress on everyone that you need to try this place!!! We had the fluffy clam chowder, the lobster bisque and the mini lobster rolls . The lobster is cooked perfectly . The chowder and bisque were creamy and delicious. The clams and lobster were tender. It is a little shack type restaurant you might miss or pass by but Do Not make that mistake! The service is great. The ladies are friendly and so accommodating . People buy quarts of the chowders/ bisque they are so very good! I hope I have convinced you to give it a go.

This is a brand new spot toward the center of Rye, and an outpost of the Rye Harbor Lobster Pound. We're told the spot at Rye Harbor is famous for "Fluffy Chowder" and their hot/cold lobster rolls, but never had a chance to stop by. Fortunately we were able to get one of the last parking spots and found this place to be busy with a long line of folks. The folks taking orders were very nice and apologized for the delay, but it really wasn't very long at all. In addition to the items I mention, they have a variety of (non seafood) sandwiches, salads and a pretty wide variety of baked goods. As we had never tried the "fluffy chowder", that was our pick. So, what is it? They serve a creamy delicious new england style clam chowder and top it with lobster meat that is cooked in butter and sherry. It made for a delicious combination and given the price of lobster at the moment, we found the portion to be generous for the price. We plan to return when we are a bit hungrier to try the warm buttered lobster roll. Give this new place a try!

Located slightly inland, on Washington Rd in Rye, The Hungry Lobster is a must-try. Located in an unassuming building, and with somewhat limited hours (only open until 2) you may not realize what amazing food is in store. When you walk in, you order at the counter. If you're eating in you can grab a table. I ordered a small lobster bisque ($10), hot lobster roll ($28) and Oreo brownie. The bisque was served while I was at the counter. There was large chunks on top, with sherry. The bisque was creamy and decadent, with chunks of lobster throughout. It was incredibly delicious! I then had the hit lobster roll. Like the lobster bisque, it had sherry, mixed in with the butter. The meat was plentiful and fresh, and the bun was griddled with butter. Honestly one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. The oreo brownie looks delicious but I'm too full to eat it now!

We stopped here on our drive from Boston up to Maine on vacation and so glad we did! It was great from start to finish. Super friendly workers, amazing food - I had never had fluffy clam chowder but now I only want it that way . Cute little indoor restaurant.

Great place for a quick lunch! They offer a few different sandwiches, salads and small dessert case. Staff was friendly and quickly offered to make mini lobster rolls with butter instead of usual mayo. Soup was hot and delicious! Prices were good for portion size.

This place is absurdly consistent. The portions are always generous, the quality is never caught lacking, and the dining room is spotless in that reassuring someone actually cares way. The staff (and it's always the same people that are there, which is cool in itself that there's no noticeable turnover in the staff) is friendly without being fake about it... efficient, pleasant, and clearly proud of what they're serving from fryers behind the soda fountains. Let's talk food, because wow. That's why you're reading this. The fried shrimp are so good that my wife (who does not like seafood) actively loves them. That alone should be printed on the menu. I've only known her to eat fried shrimp when the breading weighs more than the shrimp itself (which is not the case here). The tartar sauce is the best in North America. It's my crack. If I drank it through a straw (a bit too thick), that straw would be called a crack pipe. I literally smile writing about this tartar sauce. I will not be taking questions at this time. The "regular" fries are exactly what fries should be: crisp, fluffy, salty perfection. And the onion rings? Peak "fried seafood place" onion rings... golden, crunchy, and unapologetically doing their job, not tempura style, but old school Weathervane "fried seafood style" onion rings that you can sub in instead of fries on plates/boats for a small upcharge. Even the bathrooms are clean, which sounds like a throwaway detail until you realize how rare that is and how much it says about the place. We love it so much that we'll happily drive 40 minutes each way to eat there - in winter - because that's what you do when a place never lets you down. And despite the sign saying Al's Seafood, we tell everyone it's called "Big Al's Seafood" Not because that's the name, but because that's the energy this place has... It's not trendy. It's not trying to reinvent anything. It's just awesome, every single time and honestly, that's harder to pull off than any gimmick. Signing off... keep it up, Big Al.

The Parker House rolls were savory warm perfection and a great way to start the meal. My entree, the gnocchi with duck confit was one of the best things I've ever tasted (though very rich--I had to bring half home). And I tasted my dining companion's duck breast an it was also delicious (which they concurred in thinking). The dessert special was a sticky toffee pudding with bananas foster ice cream and peanut butter magic shell and I wish I could eat it every day. The only downsides were that (1) I didn't love the dessert cocktail (which was also absent a garnish), but it could also very well be personal preference and it was only $7, (2) it was freaking freezing in the restaurant. We were seated in a corner that didn't seem to have any baseboard heaters, and even though we weren't far from the fireplace, there was so little insulation on the windows we were all egregiously uncomfortable. The service was great, with the waitress very helpfully answering all our questions and brining each course with perfect timing. The food itself is on the expensive side, though I thought the drinks were normal for a nice restaurant (my other drink, which I enjoyed, was $13). But for the quality of the food, it's hard to complain.

The salmon bites were over saturated in sauce so much so that the panko was soggy, the pan seared scallops were decent but I found the bacon jam to be too sweet paired with the scallops. We could not flag down our waiter any of the times we needed her and every time we asked someone else for help they'd leave and not come back. When it started raining and we needed to move indoors she was gone for so long she was surprised when she returned and we had already had been helped inside by another staff member. We ended the meal when she said she'd come back with water only to disappear and we ended up asking another waitress for the check, and she redirected it back to our waitress, who finally came back with no water. The restaurant was by no means full so I'm not sure what the large gaps in service was, and at one point my friend noticed the waitresses chatting in the kitchen while we were craning our necks. I'd only come back to order the seafood chowder as the rest of the dishes weren't good enough to make up for this.
