It was my first time coming here. Ordering was easy and our food came out quickly. We got two lobster rolls, clam chowder, and a pint of the whole belly clams. They loooadded the lobster rolls and it came with plenty of fries. The rolls were nice and toasty. The perfect first lobster roll of the season for me. Drove across bridge from Portsmouth to Kittery to hit up Bob's Clam Hut, we got there just before closing. Young lady behind register was friendly and answered our question without hesitation. Wife ordered the grill chicken sandwich and I got both chowder and lobster roll. Bob's Clam Hut is one of those places I remember always going to as a kid whenever we were visiting Maine! Unfortunately my most recent visit, I found the food being quite disappointing. We ordered fried scallops, fried whole bellies, and a cup of clam chowder. One of our orders I believe it was for the bellies, we did Lilian's batter, and for the scallops we did Bob's style. Both were not crispy at all and scallops were cold? Clam chowder was also not that great either, very watery. I think the best part of our meal was the cole slaw lol... I hope that it was just an off day and the food is still good normally because it was a bit of a let down after waiting for our food for so long. We flew out here from Los Angeles for an impromptu Maine trip. We've never had lobster rolls, so our first order of business of course was trying some. Bob's was on our way from the airport to the hotel, so we stopped by. I hope this experience is indicative of what to expect over the next week, because this was great! Seats are first come, first served, but they are plentiful. Parking can be a challenge, but there is a big lot next door that's a short walk. We got cold lobster rolls. They come with fried pickles. The fries are great with their homemade tartar sauce. Honestly, I'd buy just the pickles if I could. They are the right amount of tart and garlicky. The cold lobster rolls are top 3. Bob's Clam Hut NEVER disappoints! I stop by here every time I visit Kittery Maine and usually end up ordering a variety of the same items: scallops, whole clams, fish. They provide generous portions and the seafood is always fresh. I love the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce that comes with the fried seafood. You really cannot get this type of food anywhere else and it's perfect to share with a group. My family always gets the boxes which come in 1/2 pint, full pint, or quart. Usually 2 quarts of different seafoods is enough for 5 people (in my opinion). During my most recent trip, my friend and I ordered a 1/2 pint of whole clams and a pint of scallops and we had leftovers to take home. Again, the portions are generous, usually the boxes are overflowing. There are two lots on either side of the restaurant, one is much larger than the other. If you're having a difficult time finding parking, there are plenty of other parking lots nearby, just a short walk away. They also have ample picnic table seating out front and in the back, which is covered under a tent. Though there may be long lines, it's worth the wait! read more

We usually go to the Robert's location but wanted to try Bob's this time around! Cute seafood spot, they have plenty of outdoor seating, a parking lot and Air conditioned indoor seating. Order at the window and then wait to hear your order number called. Pickup window is around the front side of the building! Fairly quick 15 min wait for our food on a busy hot day. Pricing is as you would expect, staff are all super nice! The fried scallops for me could have been crispier batter, their style is light coating it seemed which kind of fell off for me before even squeezing any lemon on but overall still fresh and good! The lady enjoyed her full clam belly plate, fries weee nice and crispy. All the condiments can be found at the many stations, ketchup, hot sauce, tartar, mayo salt pepper etc. The clam chowder was too watery for my taste and bland, but toss some pepper and salt in and we're good. I prefer more of a chunky chowder! They have soda machines and ice teas / lemonade mix you can self serve if you purchase a fountain drink cup! All in all would come back nice cute spot! read more

My mom and I split a basket of their whole belly clams--it's large enough for two people. The clams are tasty and perfectly fried, plus I really enjoy their tartar sauce. It comes with fries and coleslaw as well. Prices are pretty comparable to other places but be prepared to spend a lot.... They have plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor. I've been here in the summer and this place can get pretty packed. The decor is also a fun theme and they seem to have remodeled each time I visit. Sometimes in the summer when you have to pick up your food outside it can be hard to hear your number called on the microphone so I usually stand close and wait. really wanted to like Bob's Hut, but overall I think it's pretty overrated. For such a casual spot, the prices are definitely on the higher end, and unfortunately the quality just didn't match. The clams came out over-fried and greasy, and the lobster tail was surprisingly bland with no real flavor. On top of that, we had to wait quite a while for our food, which made the experience even more disappointing. This is not made very explicit on their menu, so I ordered a large side of sweet potato fries for the table. We also got a basket of clams which too came with fries. We were in the area and thankfully it wasn't too packed with tourists. There was plenty of parking to the side of the building and behind. We arrived right as they were opening, around 11am and we were already 5th in line. By the time they actually opened, there were 10 people behind us. There seemed to be a combination of locals and tourists. The only time the line stalled was when there was a language barrier with a customer, luckily they had someone there with a picture menu that could help people navigate through the menu. We ordered a fishwich, and pick two combo plate and an clam strip app. There was a good portions with each item were ordered and we definitely had leftovers to bring home. The food tasted so fresh and was hot. The scallops that were part of the pick two - juicy and amazing! LOVED THEM! I wished they had better tarter sauce to accompany them. If you want the best fried clams around then this is the place to come to. They've been serving up clams in New England area since 1956. There's a decent sized parking lot next to them which does get busy and yes there's usually a line but it goes by fast and luckily for us today on a Saturday afternoon there was no line. Also, they have indoor and outdoor seating and the ambiance out side is always relaxing since most tables have an umbrella to block the sun. I always like to eat outside when the weather is great and today it as perfect.. Okay let's talk about the food... So I always get the clams 2 ways which is Bobs-lightly dredged in their house blend flour and fried and the other way is Lillian's style which is egg & milked washed then dredged in their house blend and fried. To me it's the best of both world and I don't have a favorite and that's why I get both lol. The clams are always moist with tons of flavor and the seasoning is always on point. This is a must if you're going to visit them, trust me on that. We order the kids chicken tenders for my daughter and they were really good. Very tender and not over cooked and still juicy. My daughter couldn't finish them so of course I'm going to be an amazing Dad and help her finish her food lol. Talk about a legendary comfort food spot in Maine that's 60 years and counting. The crowd alone that's patronizing this spot at 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon is pretty impressive - every indoor and outdoor seating filled, lines waiting for their to-go orders, and more lining up just to place their orders - easily any restaurant owners dream scenario. And it's obvious why, best bang for the buck in this area - at least everyone I've encountered swears so. Waited about 30 minutes after ordering before finally getting a chance to dig in and find out for myself. Lobster roll was amazing. Bun toasted well, lobster flavorful and cooked just right. Fries were nice and crispy. Fishwich was lovely - haddock crispy but moist and flavorful in the middle (and definitely not PF). Clam chowder was the only total fail that is an immediate unforgivable ding. I've never had a chowder this loose/watery unless it's an improper reheat, which doesn't really make sense with this level of turnover.
