I used to rave to people about this place, but after my last visit I won't be returning here or recommending it to anyone. We came in and we're seated quickly. We all got coffees, then ordered our meals. The food took 45 minutes to come out, but since I loved this place so much I didn't let it bother me. My food came out and it was completely different than what I asked for. I asked the food runner about it and she called the waitress over. The waitress told me that the food in front of me was correct. I said no this is not at all what I ordered. She again told me I was wrong. I was stunned that she somehow would've known my order better than I would. She said she could have the kitchen remake my order if I really wanted as she rolled her eyes at me. I asked how long it would take to which she responded "probably just as long as the rest of the food took". As someone who was a waitress for many years, I expected her to be apologetic - isn't the costumer always right? If I were in her position I would've apologized and gotten the correct order out as soon as possible. Since I didn't like the meal brought to me I asked her kindly to take it back and have the correct order brought to me. Forty minutes later and well after all my all my friends had finished their meals, my food came out. It was delicious, but I had the sour taste of bad service in my mouth. This place is cash only! They do have an ATM but there is a service charge. When you come in you can seat yourself. This place is often packed, but the food is delicious. This visit we had the mole Benedict and the golden delicious apple omelette. Both were incredible and cost $10.95, which isn't bad for the amount and quality of what you get. These were specials. The mole Benedict had a subtle heat to it and was a very savory, rich dish. The omelette had apples, caramelized onions, and cheddar cheese and it was a perfect combination of flavors. If you're claustrophobic you'd definitely want to come here at a less busy time, as the tables are pretty tightly packed in, but the atmosphere is cozy and it's a great place for breakfast! read more

Inbetween Cafe is not fancy (in a little strip mall, small, dated and slightly dingy interior) but if you're craving a standard home cooked breakfast definitely check this place out. Their pancakes are really good - super fluffy and cooked well. it's been hard to find places that do pancakes well down here. Eggs cooked as per order. Bacon was a little chewy, but everything else met or even slightly exceeded expectations. Weekly specials are always interesting. I made it a point to always complement the chef on his skills. All that ended this summer. At our family's weekly breakfast there, the chef stormed out of the kitchen and told us that we'd either have to calm our kids down or leave. Now I do not see my kids thru rose colored glasses. Good food, rude and unfriendly owner with no customer service. He should stay in the kitchen. We stopped in to have breakfast here for a small business meeting with three people. Food was very good as was coffee. We were at the restaurant approximately one hour and there were plenty of empty tables around the entire restaurant and the bar top was completely empty. Out of nowhere a man from the kitchen (were later told by the manager he is the owner) approached us and said we had to leave because he is too busy and there's no tables. While that is completely acceptable, there are ways to approach people and being a nasty and pushy to paying customers (we spent $50 on breakfast) is completely unacceptable. He was completely unfriendly or unapologetic in demanding we leave and didn't thank us for stopping in. He treated us as though we stole from him. And now we'll never be back. read more

I have been a customer going back to the original owners, since I was a young girl. This has been one of my favorite places when I'm in the Red Bank. Today I was treated beyond rude by two waitress'. Honestly I'm still in shock and really upset. I have celiac disease not just a gluten allergy. I have always brought my own bread with me when I feel like a sandwich here, especially when I know they don't have gluten free bread. I did the same today, as I've done so many times before and we sat down. The first waitress came over and told me I couldn't bring outside food in, I explained I always have and that I can't eat gluten. She walked away and another waitress came over and told me I couldn't use it with my meal. I said I wasn't going to send it back to the kitchen, I order without bread and put it together myself. She said the cook who I know is the owner too, forbids this. Very nicely, I asked if they started carrying gluten free bread and she ignored me and she said this has to be removed off the table and went to take it. Startled, I said this is ridiculous and we got up to leave. In a nasty voice she said well you have a good day. It could have been handled so much better by the establishment and then I would have just ordered something and respected their wishes. I can't tolerate rude. This actually wasn't the first time they were rude. I always give places another chance, especially those I've been going to for years, people make mistakes and have bad days. Last year I brought out of town friends in for breakfast. It was after the breakfast rush so it was on the empty side. We were a table of four, one had a computer bc they wanted to show us something and the owner said rudely "this is not an Internet cafe!" At first we thought he was joking and we laughed, but realized he wasn't. Please put your your computer away. I was embarrassed but let it go. That didn't bother me but now it does as I realize rude comes down from the owner. So today we walked across the parking lot to Robinson's Ale house. Never been there, but as they say things happen for a reason. They have gluten free and vegan options marked on the menu. They have gluten free bread! The waitress noticed mine on the table and said if You prefer using your own You are welcome to do so. I took advantage of using their bread. We had a fantastic meal at Robinson's and our waitress was so nice. I'm sad I will no longer be going to the Inbetween again but we found another place. read more

Went here for late breakfast/brunch with my grandmother last week, per recommendation from my cousin - and her kids, who apparently love their blueberry pancakes. What a great little cafe. The aroma of fresh coffee, simmering onions, bread baking in the oven, warm service and fuss-less ambiance - I felt immediately welcomed and relaxed. It is a bit small, so small groups will work best.. or just go solo and pull up a stool. Our service was gracious and attentive, their specials menu apparently changes every few days (hand-written, very cute), and the food was damn good. There is an abundant amount of care and dedication put into this restaurant. My wonderful grandmother got the split pea soup (very tasty) and a chicken sandwich topped with sauteed spinach and cheddar jack. She only nibbled the sandwich, so I had the pleasure of sampling it later in the day. So moist, the chicken was just perfectly slow roasted & well rested..yum. I ordered the triple-berry and walnut crepe. Hands down, one of the best crepes I have ever had. Overflowing with walnuts, and the berries and yogurt...oh my god, it was heavenly. Not too sweet, savory enough - just perfect. Granny, who is getting up there in years but is still as sharp and clever as always, probably could have talked to the server for an hour... and it was all good. Even though it was starting to get a little busier as our meal was coming to an end, we never felt rushed. The other patrons seemed to be in the same boat as us. I loved my experience here. This place has a serious diner feel, but the food is solid "cafe" quality. I ordered scrambled eggs with spinach and onion and toast, the waitress offered me either home fries or grilled tomatoes, I chose the tomatoes and they were incredible. My eggs were great, not overdone, and the spinach was hearty and not over-cooked. The service is incredible. Our waitress was seriously one of the best I've ever experienced. Came here for a late breakfast/early lunch with a friend (what some people may classify as brunch) So here's the rundown: Food: I ordered blueberry ricotta pancakes from the specials menu. Holy moly they were delicious. Not too sweet, made with fresh blueberries (an absolute deal-breaker if they are not fresh) and with a light and airy consistency. Absolutely addicting. Friend ordered the crepes w/ raspberry yogurt filled w/ fresh berries. The yogurt overwhelmed everything else and I was way less impressed with her food. Drink: Coffee was decent, i would classify it as drinkable. I am amenable to bad coffee so long as it comes in large quantities. My coffee cup was refilled many times which makes me happy. Best breakfast place in Red Bank, to be sure. We avoided the Inbetween for awhile because A) there's always a wait & B) we were worried about the whole sitting-with-other-people thing. Luckily, they have a few two-person tables, & we snagged one of those one a lazy weekday morning. We've since been back a few times, & every time has been just as good. I love any place with handwritten specials inserted into the menus, & Inbetween provides. The places is always decorated in accordance with the nearest upcoming holiday, which is fun, & sometimes the specials are related, too\. The first time there, for example, just before Halloween I tried pumpkin bread French toast; now I can probably never return to normal French toast again. The service is iffy. Sometimes you'll get a really friendly server but a really crotchety busser, or vice versa, but for the most part, they get it done. We've always been served in a timely fashion, never had any issues with delays or substitutions. In fact, I usually make up some breakfast sandwich that's not on the menu, & they're always accommodating. The only downside to the Inbetween, I'd say, is the fact that you might have to sit with strangers, which I don't dig at all. We haven't had to do it yet, but it might deter me, if we did. Still, the food is good enough & the experience peasant enough that it's worth a go, especially if you can get in on a weekday when they're slow enough that you won't need to share your space with folks you don't know. read more

Celebrity sightings and good food. The in-between café is always a good bet. I found this place on Yelp a few years ago, and have been coming every few months ever since. It's always bustling on the weekends. The tables are set up communal style, so if you have a smaller party, expect to sit next to another group. Also, it's cash-only, but there's an ATM inside. The in-between has tons of breakfast and lunch options--it's closed for dinner. There are also always a bunch of fun specials. I like getting omelettes. They're good and come with potatoes. Living in Manhattan, I love how there's so much food for a lower cost here. Other than omelettes, family members like ordering crepes, sandwiches, pancakes, wraps. Although this café is in Red Bank, it's what I would call a "country diner." None of that nasty italian or greek diner stuff that's far too common in Monmouth County. They have such wonderful specials as pumpkin bread french toast, and a plethora of others each day. The potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream are my favorite although the omelets look delicious as well. The owners of this establishment obviously want to just serve good food. Have been coming to the Inbetween since I was little and have never met a thing over the menu or special board that I did not love. They are always coming up with a wonderful seasonal dish that blows your mind with the fact that it's coming out of a little family run dive in Red Bank. They have an eggs benedict that is topped with spinach, sliced tomato, and bacon. It's killer and always hits the spot. In the summer, the corn crepe filled with scrambled egg, ham, and cheese is divine. Potato pancakes and a cup of split pea soup is a comfort meal from the Inbetween in my family. read more

There's so many breakfast and brunch places in the area. Some are cuter than others and some have more selection that others. I'm here to tell you that I chose this place just going by gut instinct (pun intended) and it paid off deliciously! The diner is small but the food is really good! I had the spinach, feta cheese, and tomato omelette with a side a bacon and my friend had the inbeteeen Benedict..... definitely hit the spot! It was so good that we didn't stop to talk to each other until midway through our meal lol. The service is really nice and attentive. The atmosphere is really cozy, which helps at 10am. The location takes some navigating to find but we just called them and they happily helped us find them till we had them in our sights. This is the Breakfast Authority in the Red Bank area. Family owned joint, old school values that serve great food. I have never had a bad meal here nor have I ever had a mistake happen here. Staff is always on point and ready to go. With a luncheonette counter and a few tables for seating, perfect for on the go, quick eat in, or sit down and talk with friends and have lunch. Their soups are a must have with their French Onion being best that I have tasted... even better than Jacks Goal Line Stand in Long Branch. Their Split pea is also a solid way to go. Ommelttes are always good and specials keep the menu fresh. I normally get the turkey club... excellent. Fresh sliced turkey made in house as well as the roast beef and ham I believe. Produce is always fresh here. Large groups can be accommodated but groups less than 6... perfect spot. More than 6, it gets a little cramped. Small kitchen in the back and they are CRANKING out food. During the lunch rush... it slows down a bit from the flood, but that is anywhere... worth the wait. Done the other joints around the area... eh. They are ok.
