2 Star I came all the way from South LA to Compton to try The Ingredients (2251 W Rosecrans Ave), and honestly, this was a complete waste of my time. I arrived around 10:00 AM and didn't leave until about 11:30 AM, so an hour and a half of my day was gone for this experience. From the start, the service was horrible. Yes, they appeared understaffed, but respectfully, that is not the customer's responsibility. If you're open, basic service should still be provided. I asked multiple times for hot water so I could clean my utensils and stir my coffee. I asked the same server, Mary the hispanic lady, at least three or four times, and she never brought it. Meanwhile, my coffee was already on the table getting cold because I couldn't even prepare it. Another server eventually helped me, but by then my coffee was cold. I ordered chicken and waffles and waited... and waited... and waited. No check-ins. No refills. No communication. I was sitting there for about 45 minutes to an hour with no service at all. At that point, I was over it and asked for my bill. I was ready to pay for my cold coffee and leave. That alone should tell you how the experience was going. Then a tall guy came over with a orange hat, apologized, and asked me to stay. He was actually very nice, and because of him, I gave it one more chance and didn't walk out. When he asked what I ordered, it made me question if my food was ever even in rotation to begin with. Who knows at this point. Eventually, I did get my food, and I will be honest, it was good. The guy apologize again. But let's be clear: good food does not cancel out terrible service. I ended up spending $25.30, and I paid without asking for anything to be comped because that's just not how I move. But would I come back? Absolutely not!!!!!!! My sister wanted to come and I will tell her don't do it sis!!! The only positive part of this entire experience was the tall guy with the orange hat. He was polite, attentive, and actually seemed to care. Unfortunately, one good employee/owner cannot fix an overall bad experience. Service matters. And this was one of the worst service experiences I've had in a long time. Do I recommend this place? No. I don't care how good the food is. There are too many other places that can give you both good food and decent service. Save your time and your money. read more

This place is owned by Black people and I am very happy about that because I feel safe and it feels like home. I am really happy about the service the food and how they got my food right on time. I'm also very happy that it's close to my church so that I can go to this place after church. It is amazing. I literally googled "good food in Compton" today and this place popped up. I drove over and was pleased to find ample parking. The restaurant is sandwiched between two larger signs, so you won't notice it right away. I was greeted warmly by several people and I was given the option to sit where I felt the most comfortable. My server, Mary was delightful. I decided on catfish and grits and asked that cheese be added. My plate arrived and the fish was hot and delicious. I'm very picky about my grits and these were not hot enough. Overall, I'm very pleased to see a cute, cozy new spot in Compton. I will definitely return. I had to take away a star for: the music was a little too loud for my taste and it was kind of warm inside. The door was open, so maybe air will be coming soon. Everything was absolutely perfect, except we ALL want to eat here everyday!!!! I ordered for the Administrative Team in my office for our Director's surprise birthday brunch onsite, zero complaints! The staff at The Ingredients handle our order with attention to detail, THANK YOU Jahri and Kimberly. I've been a few times and wanted to support this Black Owned Restaurant, as well as introduce others to what good food is in our community. Everything was seasoned well, presentation was great, the portion size was enough for people to take home and enjoy later. My Director who is extremely particular, enjoyed her food and will definitely consider them for her future catering needs. The room was silent and mouths were smacking and chewing, the Kool-Aid was on point, the delivery was punctual ( 15 minutes ahead of time), the food was hot and no one complained about anything!!!! This was my husband and I first time here . We decided to come here for Easter and I was a bit worried because I thought it would've crowded yet, it wasn't and we were able to be seated right away. The ambiance is very nice and cozy, our server was very nice and gave great recommendations. The food was delicious full of flavor. I heard so many things about this place, and since I live in the area and saw that there were more good reviews than bad, I decided I had to try it for myself. I went in today and ordered two shrimp and grits and two smash burger combos. I couldn't wait to get home and try the food. What I can say is that the gravy on the shrimp and grits was very flavorful, but the grits themselves were bland, and so were the shrimp. In my opinion, this place doesn't really stand out from any other establishment serving shrimp and grits. The smash burgers were for my sons, and they said they were just regular hamburgers, nothing spectacular or memorable about them. The Arnold Palmers and fries were also just average, like what you'd get anywhere else. So, I'm not saying don't go, but I'm also not recommending it. It really depends on your personal taste and what kind of flavor you're used to. If you're looking for food that makes you say, "Mmm, I want some more," this probably won't be the first place that comes to mind. I will say the staff was decent. The young lady who originally took my order made a mistake and only charged me for one shrimp and grits plate after telling me the order was complete. When I noticed I only had one plate, I had to pay for another order, but she only charged me $14 instead of $21, which was appreciated. Other than that, the service wasn't spectacular, but it also wasn't bad. It was what you'd normally expect when patronizing a business, decent and courteous. And honestly, many establishments in urban areas don't always provide exceptional service, so this place didn't exceed my expectations, it simply met them. I will never go back to this place. My son & I was told to take a seat & they will be with us. We sat there for 10- 15 minutes before I requested a menu. The service was horrible, we had to ask the waitress multiple times for certain things. My son ordered chicken wings in which they were raw. The owner was very accommodating & brought out a snack until my son received more wings. Once I received the bill I noticed that the price was different on the bill compared to the menu. She liked it the first time we went. She ordered one waffle one wing and a cup of coffee. I ordered one of the named meals I think it was the Sam Cooke. Chicken wings grits hash browns and toast .(I was hungry) The young lady took our order and very shortly bought my client her food. She's a senior, senior and she eats very slow. In the meantime I'm sitting there waiting for my food to come. No it will be right out no nothing. In the meantime my client has eaten over half her meal and still no food for me. Went to the front to get her a to go box as I'm ready to leave now. Came back to the table and she just now bringing the food out. I told her to just cancel she took too long. Her response was she (my client) only had a waffle and a wing and mine took longer. I mean we came to eat together. Who serves one party first and the other later like that .
