Tried Annie's Soul Delicious at the Hawthorne location recently and I'm glad it's only about 10-15 minutes from my place because I can definitely see myself coming back. It's take-out only, but the food travels really well. The greens with smoked turkey and the red beans with smoked meat were easily my favorites. Both had so much flavor and tasted like they had been cooking all day. Definitely the standouts for me. The wing dings were another highlight. They came coated in a hot honey-style sauce that had a nice balance of sweet and heat. We also had the lemon pepper shrimp and slow-cooked short ribs with rice, which were both really satisfying. One sleeper hit was the OMG Banana Pudding. Honestly, it might be one of the best banana puddings I've had. I wasn't expecting much from dessert, but it ended up being one of the most memorable things we ordered. Overall, a really solid soul food spot that's worth the drive if you're in the South Bay.

Placed a door dash order waited an hour to get my food only to have things missing. I called to ask for extra cornbread didn't receive any in my order at all in my veggie plate. I called to confirm everything would be in my order before I placed it only got them to not send it. Mac and cheese too dry 3 stars, yams 4 stars, cabbage 3 stars need more seasonings probably would have tasted better with the missing cornbread, red beans & rice 3 stars rice was undercooked, cornbread dressing 5 stars taste better than most restaurants. I don't eat meat so if my veggie plate says it come with cornbread that's what I'm expecting

Alright, it took me a second to gather my thoughts, but here it is…read more I came to Soul Food Shack with my expectations set squarely on the food. I was only in Cali for a short while, and this spot happened to be about 15 min down the street from where I was staying. Perfect location, and I was curious to see how Cali does soul food. From the first bite, it hit me Emotionally triggered as I was transported straight back to my childhood. It felt like I was sitting at the kitchen table in New Orleans, eating my nanny's candied yams, greens, macaroni, and fried chicken. The flavors had that deep, home-cooked love, that is not taken for granted or lost on me, so hats off to the cook! That kind of food doesn't just fill you up; it connects you,and to top it off, the drinks? Man, they serve that real deal kol-aid. The kind I used to drink as a kid. As I was eating, I started thinking about how food ties us to previous & future generations. It's wild how dishes once considered scraps i.e: greens, yams, cornbread, oxtails, are now sought out in restaurants just like this one. These meals are more than just food; they're stories of survival, resilience, and community. But I digress, I know y'all didn't come here for a history lesson in Black culture, so I'll leave it at that. Now, onto the standouts. The mac and cheese and yams? Easily the stars of the plate. I like my yams runny and solid, because I love mixing it with the cornbread. Sweet, savory, soft--that combo hits every time. The macaroni? Seasoned perfectly. Creamy, rich, and not bland like you sometimes get at other spots . That's rare, and I don't take it for granted. Overall, Soul Food Shack gave me more than just a good meal, it gave me a taste of home, miles away from where I grew up. If you're ever in Inglewood and need some food that feeds more than just your stomach, pull up, tap in, eat up.

Super attentive and explained the menu well, especially since we were sharing. The bread is a must get, we got a the ceviche (super tangy and good) and french onion toast. The pork and rib eye were our favs. So tender, perfectly charred. The coffee toffee pudding dessert was also a must get. Will be back for future large group dinners.

Food is meant to be shared and is perfect for a night out or celebration. The dishes are so imaginative--flavorful and visually appealing. We started off with cheese appetizer to warm up. Not amazing but a solid starter. The badger flame beet salad was very tasty with pistachio and ruby red grapefruit. Not much greens but delicious. The hamachi crudo tasted fresh but I'm a purist and always prefer the fish flavor over the vinaigrette dressing. The beef tartare was a tad under seasoned imo. The mains blew my mind. Usually the mains are outshined by the starters in a fine dining establishment. Not here! The Indian egg was something I've never had. A soft boiled egg enveloped with an Indian spiced sausage was surrounded by cucumber, sumac, and yogurt. A mandatory order. The smoked and fried chicken (brined a few days prior per our server) was hot, delicious, and complimented with a soy and chile sauce. Great meal in itself. Get it! Hand rolled spaghetti was coiled with a mixture of mushrooms in a brown butter sauce. Super savory. Great starch, goes well with everything. Can't wait to try more dishes during future visits!

The serving size was great! Good portions. My husband and I split one order and it was more than enough for the both of us to share. We each got a delicious pork chop plus sides! Well seasoned, the batter was crispy and flavorful. Goo spices. The candied yams were a good mix of sweet and tangy and decent pieces. The Mac & Cheese was nice and cheesy, thick & seasoned to perfection! I am curious to try the other items on the menu to see how they measure up if it's this good consistently. Also affordable price for it about $25 with delivery fees etc but on the menu it's listed as $18.99 if you go get it or dine in. Glad I tried it! Will be back for more!

The pleasure of dining at Gotta Have It, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience overall,…read morewith a few standout dishes that I'll definitely be raving about! First off, let's talk about the catfish. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was in for a treat. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, golden brown, and beautifully seasoned. It had that classic soul food flavor that reminded me of family gatherings around the dinner table. The texture was flaky and moist, making it one of the best catfish dishes I've had in a long time. Next up was the mac and cheese, which was another highlight for me. It was absolutely creamy, cheesy, and baked to perfection with just the right amount of crust on top. You can tell they use quality ingredients, and it truly comforted my soul. This is definitely a dish you'll want to savor! The BBQ baked beans were another delightful surprise. They were rich and flavorful, striking that perfect balance of sweetness and smoky notes that instantly transported me back to home-cooked meals. I loved every spoonful, and it's clear that this recipe has been perfected over time. Now, onto the cabbage. Even though they were served cold, I was pleasantly surprised by how good they tasted after a quick pop in the microwave. They had the right amount of seasoning, and the flavors were vibrant and authentic. It's nice to know that quality and taste remain intact, even when they need a quick reheating. The Kool-Aid was also a refreshing addition to my meal. It had just the right amount of sweetness nothing too syrupy or overpowering. It was a great way to wash down the wonderful flavors of my meal. However, I did encounter a bit of a letdown with the chicken wings. While I had high hopes for them, they ended up being overcooked, resulting in a hard and chewy texture. It was disappointing since everything else was so good. I wouldn't order the wings again, but that's the beauty of soul food; there are so many other amazing options to explore! As for the service, it was adequate but could use some improvement. The staff was friendly enough, but I felt they could have been a bit more attentive. A little more engagement would have enhanced the overall dining experience. In summary, I highly recommend this food spot for the catfish, mac and cheese, and BBQ baked beans. It's a comforting, homey place where you can find some fantastic dishes that will make your taste buds sing. Just skip the wings, and I think you'll leave with a happy heart and a satisfied belly. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to dive into more of their delicious offerings!

So just know traffic picks up later in the evening if you're planning a visit. Now let's get into what matters: The staff? Super attentive and kind. I love when servers check on you just enough without hovering. And the food came out HOT. Not warm. Not "it's been sitting." I'm talking steaming, fresh, straight-to-the-table heat -- which is exactly how a crab boil should hit. Portions were generous because I was overly stuffed and still had plenty left over for the next day (which honestly might be the best part). Nothing like reheating a seafood boil and running it back. This was literally a shabby little hole in the wall joint that was scummy and even with ordering a variety of items, only one thing taste good. It took soooo long for the food to be brought to the table. I think they probably have it frozen and they defrost it after you order. There's no way you can have that huge of a menu and have all that food cooked fresh daily. Also the server was nice, but once she served us, she never came back to see if the food was good, if we needed condiments, or refills. I asked for a refill when she brought the check. I ordered their smoked ox tails with rice n gravy, yams, dressing, and mac n cheese. The worst oxtails I ever had. Dried out and over smoked. They seemed like no seasoning other than the smoke. The gravy was bland. Nothing much more to say about it. I guess they got the rice right, but who messes up rice if you have a cooker. So the rice was itself was good. The mac n cheese was just one big clump of nastiness. It was lukewarm and all clumped together. Yuck! The yams were straight canned. Not bad but if you were expecting real home cooked yams, you need to look elsewhere. I think the dressing was boxed cornbread dressing. Again no seasoning, no onions, no bell pepper, no nothing. And they poured that bland gravy on top. My mom ordered red beans and rice and pigs feet. The pig's feet were supposed to be oven baked, but they were also smoked, so again, not what we were expecting. And the red beans weren't bad, but they certainly weren't what I was expecting. No meat in them at all. And they had chunks of potatoes. Who puts potatoes in red beans? Not southern style that I am familiar with. You get a choice of hush puppies, cornbread, or biscuit with your meal. I ordered a biscuit which was more like a hockey puck. And we didn't even try the hush puppies. For drinks mom ordered lemonade and had to mix it with water. I ordered a sunset which was ok. A little watery but ok. When I asked for a refill, they were out so I got a purple rain and it taste like over sweetened grape koolaide. I have one redeeming factor and that's the fried catfish. It was soooo good. The batter was crispy and hot on the outside and the fish was flaky on the inside. It was perfectly seasoned. Up there in the top five of catfish that I've ordered from other places. If I had ordered just that, I would have given a 5 star rating. But because of the other food, I'm giving a two star rating At first I thought I would order a gumbo to go to have for later. But after experiencing the food served today, mom and I passed on the gumbo that we initially thought we would leave with. I ordered a peach cobbler to go and it taste like it was made with fresh peaches. But the dough was too heavy for my taste. So overall...would I go back?? No no never. Still on the hunt for a good soul food place near me.
