Pay Me!". Because of the Spokane fires, we had to evacuate and found a room a long way from home at Sun Mountain Lodge. We booked two nights, though decided to leave early as an emergency to return home and try to save what we could despite the risks involved. When checking out after the first night, we were hit with an "early departure fee" equal to the second night's rate. Front Desk couldn't help. So I wrote the general manager appealing this fee and asked for some consideration and empathy for our situation. Crickets. Nothing. Not even the simple courtesy of a response. Sometimes a business must decide if it will do the right thing. Failing to respond in any way, Sun Mountain management demonstrated doing the right thing is an illogical and unwelcome facet of their business philosophy of "We don't care. Pay Me!". So hold onto your wallet if you ever stay there. Though located in a beautiful environment, Sun Mountain Lodge and its business practices are far from hospitable.

Summer day temperatures in the 90-100 and high winds may keep you indoors. That said, If you're looking for a ClubMed you need to make reservations somewhere else. If you're looking to be pampered or a staff to wait on you, move on. Be prepared, no TV, WiFi,or internet and cell coverage is very sketchy at best. You'll need to be self contained as the cabins have no supplies. The staff is small and usually busy, cleaning cabins or running the store. As for the staff being rude or mean. He does enforce the rules and will call you out if needed. But if this has happened while you were there. Ask yourself why ? Could it be the frustrated in dealing with someone skipping out on the bill, or maybe a large group who decided to trash the bathrooms in a very disgusting manner, something we witnessed this week.

The deck facing the lake was a great place for our BBQ's,playing of board games, and looking at the stars over the lake in the evening. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. The rustic decor made for a comfortable, in nature feel. We were able to rent a pontoon boat in town and had fun cruising up and down the lake. Another day we walked over to the state park and enjoy a 3 mile easy hike. Our time will be remembered for many years to come.

The worker on the other end of the phone said that he would not make us a pizza because they are closed. Needless to say we went to bed hungry. And they supposed to close at 11pm. Awful service. If it's late and you are hungry I suggest you keep driving down to the 24hr McDonald's they'll treat you right. I honestly don't expect management from the property to care about the service.

Upon entering the property everything was very well labeled, and you were able to easily find the hotel by following the signed on the road. You passed the stables before getting to the main building. All animals are happy, healthy, and very friendly. Upon walking into the hotel, the front desk was not super well labeled, and I found no one to talk to. I had wandered the property for about 20 minutes before coming back to the lobby and someone finally stopped me with the quote above. I had noticed her actively watching me throughout my search for help, but I was only stopped once I came back to the front. To get checked in we had to find a second person, and he walked us around the property showing us all the different amenities and how to access them. After that we explored on our own and spent most of our time on the back deck of our room. The room we stayed in was very clean and welcoming. Our back deck had an amazing view of the valley and mountains beyond. Overall, I would come back, as the food and hotel amenities are amazing. This is also a good spot to stay if you are planning to do some bigger hiking trails on that side of the North Cascades.

The day before left the grill opened and we had excellent burgers for lunch. What a great week!
