I'm sure it doesn't happen every time, but they quote a check in of 3pm, we were able to get in early, which was fantastic, as check in day was the best beach day! Incredibly clean. Coffee is wonderful! We arrived early Saturday morning and we were allowed to park there even though our room wasn't ready yet. Very convenient to walk right across the street from your room to the beach. Scarborough is our favorite beach and having the motel so close was the main reason we booked but we will come back. The rooms are clean and well stocked. Linens are clean and comfortable and the mattress and pillows were not cheap-o typical motel ones. Shower is hot and has great pressure. The fridge is bigger than we expected so that was nice. They serve coffee in their lobby and it was very tasty. Everyone has been friendly from staff to guests. I love little motels like this one. Is it fancy? No, but I booked as far in advance as possible just before high season for the best rates - for a king bed - and was given Room 6. The the room was immaculately clean, much appreciated. Pros - you got Wifi and a small fridge and a flat screen TV (which I never turned on), with great location just a few minutes from the beach across the street. Easy arrival and departure procedures, well explained in emails. Every morning I trooped next door to the reception where a hot pot of coffee, creamer and sugars were waiting for me, along with little donuts (store bought - similar to Entemen's brand). Cons: Not much privacy really - the windows had black out curtains, so you either got no view or everybody walking by or needing to go to reception (which is right next door to Room 6) can look in. Someone else who reviewed the place mentioned that sheer curtains for privacy would be a big plus and I agree. One night, there was a pretty loud group of guys that booked the room next door who were up late, but fortunately they left early the next day. Keep your expectations realistic and you'll enjoy your stay here. read more

First visit to Narragansett. This motel was perfect. Clean, nicely decorated, great communication with the staff, easy check in and check out and the location is picture perfect. Right across the street is the beautiful beach allowing breathtaking views from the rooms. At night we could hear the waves. Sadly our stay was short but we hope to visit again soon to do some more exploring in the area and enjoy this great motel. read more

L-O-V-freaking E! Super duper clean, stupid close to the beach and price is JUST right for what we wanted. Shower water pressure was good too! Listen it's not a 5 star resort by no means but when you have a kid and you want access to the beach and NOT have to treach halfway across west bubble F*ck if you forgot something in the room then this is the place! PLUS they give you fresh coffee and donuts from 7-10:30AM. For those of us who get up after 9am during vacay's this is AWESOME!!!! A bunch of great restaurants, clam shacks, ice cream parlors, and independant coffee places as well as Dunky D's were all 5 minutes drive from the motel. Only 2 minor things that were a bit annoying was that the internet didn't even reach our room so that kind of sucked and the other, which was not at all a fault of the motels but the freaking state of RI...they don't have garbage cans on the beach so some douchebag left plastic bag full of garbage on our doorstep to the room, seriously who does that?!?!?! Regardless, we plan to book here again very soon! read more

We just can't say enough about this little and gem of a motel. It's location is sublime, being just across the street from one of the most beautiful stretches of Beach that we have ever seen. The room was clean and cute and had all of the basics. The staff were accommodating and lovely to deal with. I would recommend that anybody who makes it to Rhode Island take the time to come to this beach, and if you do, stay at this motel. read more

I love this little motel. It is literally across the street from the beach. I have only stayed here in the off season and we loved it. Very homey and personal feel to it. I also love the fact that there is a mini fridge in the room. You can't even get that at a pricey hotel anymore. I find that a mini fridge is essential for chilling a bottle of wine and keeping your leftovers fresh ( I always have leftovers!) The rooms are a good size and they are VERY clean. We literally saw the owner (I presume) cleaning each room personally. I also love that the rooms have personal touches and they are kept beach themed without going overboard. When you can see the beach out of your window a shell painting is to be expected! I have actually stayed at a majority of the motels in the area and I would chose this one above all others because of the price, location and the very important fact that I feel welcome! LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! The Anchor is neat and clean. It is not fancy by any means. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and we had enough space. They "go green" by reducing energy consumption and unplugging the small refrigerator, which was mildly annoying, as I had a few items I had packed that needed to be chilled, but at the end of the day, not a big deal. The AC worked well and the shower was warm with adequate pressure. THE BEACH THO! It is a two minute walk across the street and it is just beautiful. Narragansett State beach is about two minutes further up the beach. Walked to the beach in the morning for sunrise, back for evening stroll . . . it was wonderful and relaxing! read more

Nice little family owner style motel. Steps across the road to the beach. Very convenient! Close to many near by restaurants and shops. This is just an average motel in a great spot and is very clean. Nothing fancy but I'd take clean any day over fancy! Rooms have a fridge which is helpful as well. This was one of our many visits to Narraganset but our first at anchor motel. We will definitely be back!! read more

I am not usually one to choose a motel. I like the added amenities and aesthetics that come with a hotel. But this is an amazingly nice motel. Usually you open the door to your motel to be greeted with shag carpeting, and heavy brown drapes, and a scratchy brown comforter to hide all the dirt. Well walking into this motel you are greeted with white walls, turquoise and white bedding and laminate floors. Everything is clean and bright. It feels more like you're in a guest bedroom at a friends house...if your friend lived across from the beach. The towels are soft, the water pressure is great, there is a mini fridge In your room, what more could you want for a beach getaway. We stayed on of the end units - room 1? and I was shocked to find cathedral ceilings and large windows. The owners are so nice and accommodating. You can park there for the beach even if you arrive prior to check in, and stay parked there after check out for a last beach day. I can't say enough wonderful things about the anchor motel. I love this place and have stayed a few times, but the new summer rates are from $195-245 for a basic motel room with no amenities. God bless them for being able to fetch that kind of dough, but I can't afford to stay here anymore. Frankly, I would rather fly to Florida and get off-season rates at resort right on the beach. read more

Don't stay here. The woman who takes the reservations, I believe her name is Christine, is extremely rude and incompetent. She screwed up the day of my reservation and ended up taking $285.00 from me. She refused to pick up the phone and answer emails. She hangs up on you - extremely poor customer service. What a horrible way to do business, especially when you run an establishment that looks like a complete dump. I was going to stay here for a wedding in the area. I will now advise all of the other guests to book their rooms elsewhere. I hope she uses the $285.00 to buy some new bedding for the rooms because that 1980's decor just isn't cute. read more

So, my husband and I were just here again after a year or so. We love the place for the beautiful views you have of the ocean from the last end unit in the building. It is always super clean and the price is right for what it is I suppose. Best part is they allow dogs, so our little shih-tzu Holly was able to join us which was nice. However, there were a few things this last time that I thought were sort of annoying. The fridge was not plugged in when we arrived and it took a really long time for this older mini fridge to get cold. I don't know how much it could cost just to leave it plugged in, but it would have been nice to be able to put our food in a cold fridge as soon as we arrived. When we left the room and returned the next day the beds had been made and they replaced our towels. The towels could probably be a little nicer, but that's not really a big deal in my mind for a place that's near the beach. The sink had not been wiped down and the old bar of soap we had used was still there and they didn't replace the little plastic cups we used the night before. And the thing that really annoyed me was whoever cleaned the room decided that it was ok to shut off the air conditioner that I had set to a certain temperature when I left. Sorry, but that's not ok in my book. We came back from a day in the sun with a dog who needs it to be cool and the room was super hot after having the sun blaring in when they pulled the blinds we had shut to block it out wide open. When I pay for a room I'd like to be able to keep it at the temperature of my choosing. Then the part we didn't anticipate: The drunken loud mouth sitting on the front porch cursing and talking non-stop to his enabler girlfriend who forced us to move our chairs around to the side of the motel on the grass. Thank goodness we had the end unit or we would have been forced to stay inside on what was a beautiful night. The owner walked by once to water his flowers and heard the foul mouthed conversation and just ignored it. And because of this it makes us wonder how often these shenanigans go on in the summer at this place, and do the owners take any measures to prevent their guests from annoying each other? The front porches are very close together and just one idiot could ruin the whole experience for everyone, which I suspect this ossified moron managed to do this past weekend. Luckily the fool got dragged off the porch by his girlfriend around 11:15, but had it gone on much longer we would have been forced to handle it ourselves because clearly, the owners were not handling it. There were people with little kids in the room next to him. Someone loudly using the F word as an adjective in every sentence should be asked to desist or face being asked to leave. Not by the other guests, but by the owner who clearly saw what was going on with that man. We wanted to speak to the owner about this whole incident when we checked out, but no one was around at eight that morning and my husband left the key after ringing him on an intercom somewhere. So much for "Thanks for coming, we hope you had a pleasant stay." It was more like, "yeah, just leave the key on the desk" or something like that. All I know is that my husband thought it was pretty unpleasant. Would we be back? Most likely yes. I think it's always going to be hit and miss with the neighbors you have. We'd only stay if we could get the end unit, which is a bit more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I still think it is a hidden gem of a place and you can't beat it's location. However, the little things mean a lot too. I hope the owners are not losing interest in things because it did feel a little less hospitable than it had in the past and I hope this was just an off weekend and not the norm. That would be a deal breaker for me. read more

GREAT FACILITY!!!! I went to URI from 97-02 & staying here for vacation is the ideal location. Right across the street from Scarborough state Beach, no parking permit required. Wonderful, friendly, hardworking staff at the motel - clean, well kept & decorated rooms. Anytime we go to RI, this is where we stay - period. I would HIGHLY recommend this motel to anyone from out of town due to great location & services provided. read more

Just returned from a visit to Narragansett and the motel was wonderful! It's a small mom and pop place that is meticulously clean--when I saw the amount of sand our party of 4 inadvertantly brought into the room, I am amazed they can keep it as clean as they do. Rooms have a small refrigerator and hair dryer. It's a nice place to stay if you want a short walk across the street to get to the beach. The rooms are on the smaller size and we always bring our own pillows, too, but you can't beat the location and how clean the rooms are. Our room was ready hours before check in time--they would have let us park there anyway but it was nice to be able to get in early. They also let you park all day the day you leave. I've been here a handful of times over the past 5 years and I will absolutely return again! read more
