My Family is buried at The Italian Cemetery some in the Mausoleum some in a crypt and My father is in an old section where his father use to be Section D towards the end by the old road. This section is where a lot of Baby's died during The Spanish Flu Pandemic in 1918-1920 and Many tombstones are worn out and old I have been visiting this section for 68 years and now Im fed up with the lies that are constantly being told why they have let this section dry up the grass is like hay it has all been neglected because they feel no body is watching .I'm surprised they have'nt tried to sell the Baby's plots. and today a rude employee at the office. Steve Chiappari General Manager was a negative Bully and said I had been there before which I have never talked to him. and proceeded to yell at me. there needs to be an investigation on this poorly maintained section, because there is no monies to be made. While the cemetery itself is quite nice and historic with plenty of Italian names, it won't turn away anyone who is not of Italian or Sicilian heritage seeking a plot. My family took a brief tour of the outside areas but didn't really investigate pricing. Mainly, this review is to notate that we had a positive experience at the Italian Cemetery's venue of worshipping and remembrance: their Chapel. It's a building that appears to be kept in really good condition. Very nice, lovely inside, although the women's room near the entrance is small and limited. The Chapel is simply beautiful; nice traditional exterior, then bright, expansive and striking interior. Just as appropriate and uplifting as possible in ambiance, when memorialising anyone. Yes, laying within the gleaming white walls, are the remains of many others, long ago who have passed. Some who gather here for an event, to talk about and remember the person they're here for, might find that awkward, being surrounded by these.. "others". I myself believe it's calming and supportive and not really noticeable, when in the midst of a service. A peaceful heavenly experience in excellent environs. Blessings and beauty and beneficence await all paying respects at the Italian Chapel. read more

Several generations of my family are interred here. I've been visiting their graves as long as I can remember. The Mausoleums are so well tended and spotless. I recently visited a nearby cemetery and was saddened by the lack of care. The filthy furniture scattered about and the flies inside the mausoleum was disturbing. This has got to be the oddest review ever. But since it's raining and I frequent this place for Mom, why not. Mom actually picked this place out years before with her sister who passed from cancer. They thought it was pretty well maintained and decided to buy plots next to each other. Well, my aunt passed quite a while before my Mom and when she finally did succumb to her own cancer, I went here to check about her plot and the staff were quick to find it and coordinate all we needed to do with the mortuary. They do maintain the grounds very well. It's always clean and pleasant when I visit Mom, which I probably should do more. Not sure if this will help anyone that is taking care of a passed loved one, but I hope it does to make it easier for your difficult time. read more

I am so very impressed with the quality of service that we received from the Italian Cemetery when burying my father. Troy was very responsive and compassionate from start to finish. He answered all of my many questions and helped us with all the details so that we could have an absolutely perfect burial for my father. The grounds are clean and very well-maintained. The ambiance is peaceful and pleasant. The groundskeepers were gentle, careful and unbelievably efficient in handling the burial. We were allowed to watch the whole thing, which meant a lot to me and my family. I can definitely recommend the Italian Cemetery as a wonderful place for anyone who needs to put a loved one to rest. read more

We recently laid our loved one to rest in the mausoleum and feel comfortable that she is there. It's a very beautiful and well-maintained cemetery with lots of history. It's also in a very convenient location next to the Colma Bart station for those who can't or don't drive. During the sales & contract signing process, we worked with Steve; he was direct but kind and ready to answer any questions. Some useful things to note if choosing a mausoleum: - I believe all or most spots can fit 2 loved ones. - The placard & nameplates come from the cemetery and are part of the fees/packages. I liked this because it was one less thing to worry about. Also, they are bronze and classy. - The prices depend on the height of the spot; the higher up you go, the lower the price (lower spots are more expensive). - For the spots toward the top, a mechanized lift contraption is operated by a couple of staff to elevate your loved one before they are slid into their spot. The machine does make some noise but it still did not take away from the burial process. The last step is extremely hard to take whether it's done in the mausoleum or in the ground. The staff were very professional and treated the process with dignity. - I think embalming is required. If you choose not to do that, it should be brought up since they may require some sort of protective barrier. - Keep in mind that you cannot place flowers inside the mausoleum chamber once they are placed into their spot. So guests should take them home rather than expect to place them on the casket. Losing someone you love is devastating but I hope my review can help you understand the process. It was my first time planning this for someone and this is just some info I wish I knew from the beginning. While visiting our daughter in San Francisco, my wife & I wanted to visit this historic cemetery. Our daughter drove us there late on a Friday afternoon. I'm 100% Italian-American. My wife, who is a genealogist, was looking for some information for Find-a-grave. After entering, we were greeted like returning 'famiglia' members by Troy & Joanne. Even though it was late, they took the time to talk & help us. We talked about our mutual family heritage, Italian traditions & famiglia, the history of the cemetery, the 4th generation stone cutter across the street, the town, and they gave us pamphlets about the cemetery. They supplied my wife with all the information she was looking for and a map of the cemetery. As I walked in the immaculate grounds of the cemetery, I was surrounded by all 'those' Italians, who, like my 4 grandparents, came here for "the promise of a better life" for themselves, but especially for their descendants, like me & my children. The statues and headstones in this cemetery are really striking and give a great ambiance. If you're going for a stroll be sure to bring a camera. But leave your dog at home as they're forbidden. (Boo.) And if you're doing a tour of multiple cemeteries, hit this one first since it closes at 4:30pm. (Boo.) read more

If I had to do it all over again, I would not choose this cemetery for my parents. Their hours are very inconvenient. They close at 4:00 PM and I have to leave work early in order to visit my parents if a birthday or anniversary happens to fall on a weekday. They are buried in the mausoleum so there is no way I can get in after closing time. Yesterday, Christmas day, one of the biggest visiting day of the year, I went there at 3:43 thinking I would just go in and say a prayer and leave. T doors to the mausoleum by El Camino WERE CLOSED! And this is not the firs time this has happened. Not only they have inconvenient hours, but they even close before closing time. This is Christmas! When I buried my parents and we purchased a space, we entered into an agreement. We pay (and it wasn't cheap) and you, Italian Cemetery, agree to have my parents buried there and allow us to visit during visiting hours. We kept our end of the agreement, but you are not keeping yours. You are a business. You need to keep business hours, that is, open when you say you will and close when you say you will. I think the person who closes up just wanted to get it over with and have the rest of the afternoon free. As I said, this is not the first time. It does not matter how nice the grounds are, how serene the ambiance is, if you can't get in. read more

The grounds and mausoleums are beautiful and well maintained but the available visiting hours are horrible. Visiting ones family/friends that have moved on is part of the grieving process and brings solace to those left behind. Not here... Hours of operation are extremely limited and closed for the Holidays. So much for bringing your Mom flowers on those special days... read more

This Italian Cemetery has horrible hours. I tried to reach them twice and their mail box is full. No one answers the phone even when they are open. Wanted to visit my dear cousin and find out where to visit at the grounds but I will have to wait until they listen to their messages or get lucky for them to answer some day read more

Recently, in our deceased father's box of "this & that," we discovered a very old-looking key to a previously unknown family crypt at the Italian Cemetery. Last Tuesday, my sisters and I made our visit, eager to learn what "ancient" family members might be there. Upon arrival, we were quite impressed with how beautifully kept the grounds were. We, of course, went to the office for guidance as to how we could find the crypt. There we were patiently helped by two office people, and advised by each that if we had any trouble whatsoever making our old key work with the equally old lock and gate, we should not hesitate to call upon the friendly maintenance crew for help. Indeed, help we needed ... and, indeed, HELP we got ... and, indeed, FRIENDLY they were. Fernando and Filberto promptly responded and heroically devoted the next half hour (at least!) to applying various lubricants to the weather-frozen bolt and to wedging open the out-of-kilter gate. Even, their boss, Troy, came by to lend them encouragement and to entertain us with the interesting history of the cemetery. Finally, success! ... we got inside and spent gratifying, first-ever time "with" two of our great grandparents and 4 of our cousins. Much admiration and many thanks to the super-caring people at the Italian Cemetery for that experience. (Suspect we'll need your help next time too. Till then, all the best to you!) read more

My family has a crypt, a mausoleum, and some single plots in this cemetary. I am always in awe of the place when I visit & it is truly one of the most beautiful cemetaries I've visited. It is very appropriate in it's location because it has a similar look and feel to some if the older buildings around. read more
