The Italian Cousin delivered on every plate. We ordered the lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, calamari fritti, stuffed mushrooms or rollatini, and a caprese salad. Each dish came out well portioned and clearly made with care. The lasagna was the standout. Browned cheese on top, a rich tomato sauce underneath. The layers held together and the filling was seasoned properly. The spaghetti and meatballs were hearty. Three large meatballs, good sauce coverage, and a side of garlic bread that was worth eating on its own. The calamari was fried light and crispy, not greasy, served with a marinara dipping sauce and a lemon wedge. The caprese used fresh mozzarella with a balsamic glaze drizzle. Clean, simple, done right. The fries were a simple side, golden and hot. Service was attentive and the setting felt like a proper neighborhood Italian spot. Make a reservation. This place fills up fast and for good reason. We walked in as they opened and so many were coming in behind us. One side note, the sangria ran a bit bitter. Stick to wine or beer instead. read more

The last time that I went to this venue, I told myself that I would not return due to the price point relative to similar restaurants in the area. I should have stuck to my guns and not given it another try. We had the sausage bolognese special which was 26 and change. The food was ok but it was obvious that they poured hot bolognese sauce over pasta that had cooled. As a result, all of the pasta except for what was touching the hot sauce on the bottom was cold. The ricotta on top remained cold because it was sitting on cold pasta. Our server was mediocre at best. Her saving grace was the bus boy who worked hard getting drink and bread refills. This cold plate of pasta dinner for 2 cost $80.00 with a tip. I won't be returning nor would I recommend it. read more

We love this restaurant! Jim (I think) the bar tender makes excellent drinks and is exceedingly attentive. We ordered an appetizer, mussels, which we enjoyed very much. my husband ordered soup. I ordered the special meal which included a salad. I said we were going to split it. The waitress said that there was a seven $7.50 charge for splitting. I said we don't need an extra plate. She said she would put it into the kitchen and see what happened. We were charged and that is exactly what we got an extra plate. The kitchen did not divide the meals on the two plates. Next time I will not tell her that we are sharing we will just share. $7.50 is pretty steep for an empty plate and no service. Still love this restaurant still love that bartender we will be back. We just know to order differently. We ordered a special which came with a choice of risotto or pasta. The waitress did not ask which we would prefer. I forgot to tell her that we would prefer pasta. It came with the risotto. I think this waitress could've thought outside the box and did not need to say we were splitting our meals since we had ordered plenty of other food in addition to the one main course. She also should've asked which side we preferred. We were not happy with this waitress. read more

We caught a quick dinner on the early bird special at the Italian cousins in Sebastian. What a wonderful restaurant our waiter Jim was wonderful. He made some suggestions and we got our meal. It started with soup and a glass of wine. We both got pasta and we're very happy with it and had enough to take home for lunch. The Owner Gus stopped by our table and was very friendly and you could tell he loved his restaurant even the bus boy Matthew was helpful and so nice. I loved this Resturant until I tried to go there the other day and was treated very badly by the person who was greeting you as you walked in. I was with two other woman. I approached the Receptionist and the first thing she asked us if we had a reservation. I told her no and she immediately raised her voice to us and said that it was a reservation place and she pulled three business cards out and handed them to us. I said we would be happy to sit at the bar if that is available. She raised her voice again and said that she is doing something and we needed to wait. S he proceeded to talk on the phone and to one of the workers. Every time we asked a questions she screamed at us. Then she accused us of being rude. She yell again and told us to get out. She told us to tell our family not to come in either. The people around us were in shock listening to her. I have been going to that Resturant every time I am in Florida. Me and my friends left there shaking. I find out later that the woman was the owner. I have never been treated like that. This person really must have been having a bad day. I've now been to The Italian Cousin twice in a the last month. Both experiences were great. The service is excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. It's larger than it seems at first, because there are two separate seating areas, which gives it a nice, intimate feel, while also having plenty of room for walk ins. It is probably a good idea to make a reservation on a Friday or Saturday night though, just to be sure you won't be waiting on a table. At seating, they provide a mixture of olive oil, basil and parmesan cheese, with a basket of bread. Both of these are delicious, and for the person who doesn't have a huge appetite, it would be easy to fill up on the bread and spread. Fortunately, that's not an issue for me, and I could honestly make a lunch of this alone. My table shared the mozzarella caprese on the first visit, and that was delicious. The tomatoes are clearly fresh, the roasted peppers are high quality, as is the mozzarella and the dressing. On both visits, I've had the fried calamari appetizer, which is cooked perfectly. The breading is delicious, with a very slight tinge of spice to it. The marinara served with it is also delicious, thick enough to stick to the calamari, not watery or thin as is too often the case in lesser Italian restaurants. On my first visit I had the linguini with white clam sauce as an entree. It was excellent. The clams were perfectly cooked, so as to be open and not undercooked, but not rubbery. The pasta was also perfectly cooked, not boiled to mush as is too often the case in restaurants. The sauce itself was full of a nicely layered flavor. It's a great mixture of garlic, white wine and a light touch with the parsley and a few other spices. On my second visit, I decided that because the white previous meal had been so good, I would try to Veal Marsala. I'm honestly a little picky about Marsala. It's something I love when it's made well, but is a big disappointment when it's not. This was among the best Veal Marsala I've had that wasn't served in my great grandmother's kitchen. The veal was perfectly prepared, the sauce was balanced, without the wine so overpowering the dish as to negate the other flavors. The balance of flavor with the sauce, the mushrooms and the veal was delightful. The flavor of the mushrooms suggests they're not using cheap, bottom of the barrel ingredients either. Prices are a bit higher than the local pizza joints, but the quality of the food justifies it. These are people who obviously care about the quality of their food and service, and do a great job of keeping a step above what the majority of the other restaurants in Sebastian are offering. read more

I'm fussy a about chicken Parma because some bad restaurants just take a pre-made patty, throw sauce and cheese on it and broil it. Nasty. I couldn't tell if this was premade patty but it was good. My wife wanted to try a different place for her birthday and selected the Italian Cousin in Sebastian. A little drive from our place in Melbourne Beach but worth it. After being seated our server, Catalena, started our dining experience. Choice of wine was a bottle of Montepullciano d bruzzo. A light and dry red, very good. For the appetizer we had stuffed clams and they are delicious.We both had the chopped salad with our entrees. Fresh with a light dressing. My wife ordered linguine and clams in a white wine sauce that's her go to when rating an Italian restaurant. Fresh pasta and loaded with clams. She told me it was some of the best she's had. I selected lasagna with a side of meatballs. Again made with fresh pasta and cheeses. Meatballs are very good. We had leftovers as the servings are generous. For our desserts I had tiramisu and the wife had cheesecake. Both excellent. Accompanied with espresso with a shot of anisette and our meal was complete. Excellent service from all the staff. Our server didn't let us know there was an added gratuity for bigger parties. I would recommend to the server to just let the table know in advance next time/add it to the hostess stand so customer knows. It was my first time to the Italian cousin. There were 4 adults and two children. Three of us got the early bird special and one ordered from the regular menu.
