BENTO BOX (Mixed Tempura and Sesame Chicken)
    Cynthia G.

Delicious BENTO BOX! The mixed Tempura was perfectly cooked. Crispy, light and not greasy. And the Sesame Chicken was light and the chicken tender. It comes w/ steamed white rice, two California rolls and green salad. The meal starts w/ Sunomono and Miso soup. Great food! Great staff! Great prices!

I got a fired certificate for Xmas for this place and decided to try it. I remember this place being the old Skippers on Freeport that closed down so glad to see it was being used for something good. As I walk in I notice the place is clean and very private. In the middle is chairs and table but on the sides are booths. I option for the booth. Very comfortable. I ended up getting house spicy Ramen and a roll. Both were very tasty. I'm not sure of the name of the roll o got but it had a slight citrus taste to it which tasted really good. The ramen had a good broth to it that I wash down with a Kirin Ichiban Beer. The service was nice and welcoming the whole time. Gotta go back for lunch some time.

I've been coming to Izakaya for so long back when there was a happy hour menu and it was the spot to go to. Since then the place has made some changes and it looks great! I stopped here for lunch and grabbed a sushi and hand roll and that was plenty. Great service as usual. I did notice the rice that is used for the sushi was stickier than use to having. And it may be that's how the sushi rice is here. I'll have to come check out the dinner menu and see if that has changed to since I've last been here.

This is the display of a fake bowl of ramen to show what the real thing looks like, it doesn't quite look the same but it's pretty close!

Adj: adequate but not awesome The Izakaya on Freeport is a long time establishment in the South Land Park area. We've been coming here for many years. Looks like I had pictures from years ago, but totally forgot to write a review! Before the pandemic, we were coming almost every week for an early dinner after work during their happy hour (the menu prices of which were incredible for the amount and quality of food) with my in laws. We usually ordered the IZ roll (so good), the double salmon roll (my fav), a couple of spider rolls, a couple of California rolls for the kiddos, and a few bowls of house ramen. Post COVID, we all kind of forgot and basically didn't get back into coming here and ended doing a lot more takeout. They've since done a major remodel of the interior of the restaurant and it looks nice. There are several booths along one side of the restaurant that provide a more cozy and private dining experience for small groups. Then the middle are bigger tables for families and larger groups. Finally, along the other sides there are smaller tables for couples, trios, and smaller parties. There's also dining at the bar now which they didn't have before. Service was efficient but not particularly attentive, but they were pretty busy. As for the food, everything was pretty good. I really enjoyed my bento box and the freshness was clear in every item, the tempura was really crisp and spot on, not too thick, but still substantial to give it the both mouthfeel. However, everyone else's order of ramen, which I got to try family style, was super duper salty. It was really quite bad bc it was so salty that any flavor of the broth was completely overwhelmed by the saltiness. It was so bad that I think back now and we should've sent them back, but instead I think my in laws just didn't drink the broth and my hubby just added hot water to his broth. Other than that, the sushi rolls were pretty good, so it really was the ramen that disappointed which is so weird because years ago their ramen was consistently good (but not great, you have to go somewhere higher end and more specialized for that) and never overly salty. Overall, we thought The Izakaya's new look and vibes were good and the food was still adequate but not awesome. It's not bad for casual dining, so we'll likely be back because it's a convenient location and easy access for our elders.

I did not expect this place to be as good as it was. Izakaya had some really tasty bentos and hand roll. The location is situated amongst a row of great Asian cuisine . The service was kind to our large group, and brought our food out in timely fashion. The salmon was small looking but it was very good. They have some really good sauce there, and sauce makes it everything. I also had a spicy scallop hand roll, which was delicious! Not beating my favorite hand roll location but definitely delish. I will come back to try the other rolls . They have a large selection of things on their menu!

Expect flavorful Japanese cuisine in South Sacramento. Tonight we enjoyed a warm bowl of ramen and a comforting bowl of udon, both satisfying and full of flavor. The staff were welcoming and promptly seated us in a spacious, open dining room. Booths line the perimeter, with larger tables in the center, making it great for both intimate dinners and group gatherings. If you prefer, the sushi bar is available, where the chefs work with enthusiasm and energy. We'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

We got take out for the family. Heard they had some good sukiyaki. We ordered that and beef curry, sesame chicken and beef teriyaki combo. The chicken was nicely fried and crispy, but the beef was just ok. The sukiyaki was tasty. My beef curry was very good. Our sashimi and rolls were good. Next time we'll dine in.

Yum! We came in and celebrated our anniversary with our family. There was plenty of seating, and it was pretty busy. We loved the decor and lighting around the restaurant. The employees were professional and our food came out fast. We over ordered as per usual! I got a dinner bento box with salmon teriyaki and Inari (the bento box came with miso soup, salad, and sushi rice.) My husband got a dinner bento box with chicken teriyaki (the meat was too chewy) and mixed tempura. We also ordered a lion king roll (it was hot and tasted fresh but the cream cheese was too overpowering and took away from the other flavors.) One of my family members got the beef ramen. They liked it but felt like the broth was too salty. We enjoyed our dinner, I will be back to try different dishes.

Top to bottoms: A6. Buta Gyoza, R7. Double Hamachi Roll, Crystal Salmon (my fave, so good)

As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted and shortly after we were taken to our booth. The booth is wooden, but not uncomfortable. We were served sunomono and cucumber lemon water while looking over the menu. The interior is smaller with booths lining the walls and tables in the middle. While we were there, they had two large parties that they had arranged the tables in the middle for. The decor was nice and really gave it a good vibe. Everyone was friendly and patient. We got the Buta Gyoza, Beef Donburri, Crystal Salmon nigiri and a double hamachi roll. The crystal salmon was my favorite. It was lightly torched, deliciously seasoned and just melted in my mouth. Highly recommend that. The food was good and we enjoyed every bite. They do have decent amounts of parking on the side of the building and in the back lot. Will absolutely be returning here!

This place used to be real good. A few years ago I went again and found it was not as good as it used to be. So it's been a few years later and thought I'd try it one last time to see if it improved. Mistake. Had the bento box with sesame chicken and tempura shrimp. Tempura shrimp was heavily coated and fried coating was hard and crunchy. Shrimp inside was small and dry. Coating reminded me of State Fair deep fried food, not the light delicate coating it should have. I picked most the coating off and salvaged a few bites of dry, not moist shrimp. Sesame chicken same story. Heavy coating and chicken inside not the greatest. Even the white rice was not quality. What a waste of money. When I ate what I could of it I was still hungry. Scratch this place off your list.

Stopped here for lunch on Wednesday. We were seated right away and served a pitcher of ice water. We ordered green tea, Ami Ebi, Salmon Kama, Age Dashi Tofu, Tako, and Unagi Nigiri. Lunch was good.

The food came fast and the portions are pretty big for dinner. It was busy for at dinner time on the weekend and the parking lot is small. The servers were nice and attentive. The bento box came with soup and salad. They also give pickled cucumbers for free. They also take reservations.

Authentic Japanese Ramen Review by Miss Doubtfire…read more Absolutely loved the ramen here! The flavors are authentic, rich, and truly remind me of a real Japanese ramen shop. You can tell the chefs put a lot of care and skill into every bowl, from the broth to the noodles and toppings. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant was very clean and comfortable. It's not just great food--it feels like an authentic Japanese dining experience. If you love real ramen and appreciate quality food, great chefs, friendly service, and a clean atmosphere, this place is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommended!

This had the perfect balance of sweetness. It was light and refreshing and balanced the rest of the flavors of the meal. I started with the seaweed salad. It was a solid seaweed salad. Good seasoning and texture. It was a good portion size as well. Melissa and Jonathan had the gyoza. They were stuffed full of meat, but I felt like the seasoning was a little less than and also they were unevenly cooked. I still tried one though because a gyoza is a gyoza. As my main, I had the karamiso ramen with a spicy miso based broth with seasoned ground chicken, veggies and chili threads for an extra kick. I enjoyed this bowl of ramen. It was the perfect level of spice. I am partial to ground meat in ramen, so I liked that this was an option. The veggies were cooked al dente which I appreciated, and the broth was filling and flavorful. The noodles were thin which is my favorite type. Attentive service here. OUr water cups were always filled no matter how hot the ramen was. Solid meal here.

Most recently, my friend ordered ramen that was more sprouts than ramen noodles which was disappointing. It's nice that the ramen spot is connected to the thai restaurant because your table can order from either/both places. I got the black ramen garlic which came with the usual toppings: roasted pork chashu , corn, green onions, bean sprouts, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, and actual fried garlic. The whole garlic cloves were plentiful and so much flavor. The description says fried, but they are so buttery soft, they taste more like they've been roasted or baked in the oven. I will 100/100 always order this ramen. Very flavorful broth. My husband got the chicken ramen, which I tasted, and it too had a flavorful broth. You choose your spicy level. I got medium which was basically mild. The portion and price make this a great deal for a quick dinner in Midtown. I love the late hours and the speed of which our food came out. We ordered the geso (fried squid) and the veggie tempura. I do not recommend the tempura. The batter was thick like carnival onion rings. They need to use panko for breading. The geso was ok, and served with an aioli sauce. Stick with the ramen. No need to waste stomach space on their appetizers. The right half of the restaurant is for Ramen 101, and the other side is for Orchid Thai. You order at the counter and get a number, find a seat. The servers came around and checked on us and helped us with any requests. The nice ambiance from the Thai side carried over to the Ramen side, but both casual.
