Miyako has been here a long time, but I've never been previously. We had the place to ourselves for the most part; only one other customer came while we dined here even though it was the weekend during lunchtime. I'm not sure how they're surviving when the parking lot always seems to be empty anytime I drive by. We ordered the teriyaki chicken, teriyaki pork, and a side of tsukemono. It was rather odd that the person kept clarifying if we wanted the battered chicken... I believe referring to the sesame chicken. (It's not Japanese-owned.) Both meats were overcooked. The tsukemono was quite plain (just cabbage) and overly salted in my opinion. It wasn't bad, but there's definitely better places for Japanese in the area. I ordered the pork teriyaki bowl. It was overcooked and the pork was very tough. The tsukemono tasted too salty and sour. The teriyaki sauce was not overly sweet or salty. The portion was average for the cost of $13.59, however since the meat was overcooked I will not be back. My wife ordered the teriyaki chicken and it was also overcooked. The cut was a boneless thigh which was surprising since it was dry. On a Sunday during lunch there was only one other customer that ordered to-go. When I ordered, they gave me an estimated wait time of 10 mins, which was fine, but I'm sure it was done in less than 10 mins. I thought it was all yummy. I have heard wonderful things so I decided to try this local spot. To start, I was pleasantly welcomed by the cashier with politeness and a smile. The owners and the cashier are very nice and welcoming people. Don't be foolish and let the dated outside fool you, this spot is a lovable local gem! The server/cashier came to check on me multiple times, which truly emphasized their care for their customers. The food came relatively quick for I only had to wait about 5-ish minutes. I loved the chicken teriyaki bowl that I ordered, which came with tsukemono, a simple and deliciously refreshing cabbage topping. The food was straight forward, yet delicious and full of flavor, the chicken was quite tender as well. The way they prepared the chicken in thin-julienne-like cuts was unique and allowed the teriyaki sauce to cover more surface are, truly fusing the grilled umami flavor of the neatly cooked chicken with the dark and flavorful teriyaki sauce. Using my best judgement, the prices of the food is about the same you would find anywhere else. For the plates/ bowls they offer 3 different sizes. Some other menu items they feature are burgers, fish fry, beef, and chicken katsu. Additionally the restroom that is out back was clean and ready to use(kindly ask to use the restroom and you'll be given a key). The inside of the restaurant was clean without a speck of food or liquid in site. The tables, ground, and even on top of the trash cans were as clean as a brand new car. Overall, I will absolutely be returning to this local gem and am looking forward to trying their other menu items. Given there are so many Asian restaurants in the area, I figured it might be worth giving them a shot. However, the food was very disappointing. I got the teriyaki bowl, regular size(I think it's kind of pricey for what you get). The lady was Korean and it might explain the fermented cabbage that came with the teriyaki bowl. It wasn't kimchi, more like sauerkraut. It wasn't like any Japanese side dish I've had before. Wished they didn't add that. The rice was cooked very well. The chicken was cooked very well. The sauce is what ruined it all. I'm not sure if it was the flavor or if it was the sugar hiding the saltiness. But it just wasn't for me. If I compare it to my favorite spot in Japan, (starts with a Y and ends with an A, and I've seen franchises in SoCal), this place is at the bottom of the totem pole. The place is immaculately clean but sadly the food was way over priced for the quality. I was drawn by the four star ratings which turned out to be way off. The rice should be fluffier (not dry), the katsu was limp, and the sauce was way too salty and caters to an Americanized version of teriyaki that is dreadful. If you like just pouring old soy sauce on rice maybe this is the place for you. Note: The menu lists plates and yelp shows square plates but the food will be served in bowls. **Takeout available during this pandemic** It's simple stuff, but tasty. Combo sesame chicken and teriyaki chicken is my jam. It's not super cheap, but it's a bigass plate with plenty of chicken. I haven't tried their spicy sauce, but it is nice to know the option is there. When in the mood for spicy I may have dumped sriracha on the whole thing at home. Many fried things are also on the menu. I'm good with my massive rice plate of teriyaki. Maybe you want the fried things. The dining room is throw back 70s Weinersnitzel. Or something like that. New Year's day, so places were closed. Passing through town and had a hankering for teriyaki and found this place open. Dumpy building with no cars out front... Uh oh. Not looking good. The inside looks like an old, run down, fast food hamburger joint, so no surprise when they have burgers on the menu. Also fish and chips and other fried seafood. Upon arriving hone, gave one to my wife. She says the flavor was good, not great. To me, the bowl had lots of potential. Serving size was good. I had been wanting to try this place, and went through the back door, only to see that it was locked, but a lady working in the back came and opened the door for me. I felt special thinking the place was already closed but that she was willing to cook any ways -- turns out I was using a door that is usually locked -_- Anyways, I was amazed at how fast this lady was. She was the only one working in the whole restaurant, and when I ordered my sesame chicken bowl, literally less than 5 minutes later, she came out with the food. The Chicken was cut so fine that a resembled Shredded chicken. It was pretty nasty it was flavorless and beyond dry. The husband had fish-and-chips.
